I've noticed that looking up a location on wifi, and not hitting navigate until off of wifi increases the chances of navigation actually working on 5.0.1. Anyone else notice this? Navigating before disconnecting from wifi or not using wifi to look up a location usually results in it not working about 80% of the time.
Wifi seems to block the phones ability to get a gps lock. I too have to ensure my wifi is off before attempting to use the navigation in maps.
I have never experienced this propblem. Mine works fine weather wifi on or off.
Use gps only mode. Problem solved.
Also keeping the phone portrait or landscape with the power button facing up also seems to help if you insist on using high accuracy mode.
Just one of the many glitches still unaddressed on a so called flagship.

So my searches on this have turned up nothing similar. Forgive me if this has been covered somewhere.
Device: Epic 4g running Syndicate 1.02 Standard
Problem: GPS won't even turn on now.
Background: GPS was working normally (albeit badly, as we all know) until yesterday. Was able to toggle on and off.
Now: Toggle switch in pull-down lights up as if activating GPS but no familiar toggle sound. Wifi, BT, and 4g toggles still functioning and making the sound. When I go to Location Settings to activate, still no GPS. Toggle switch does light up if GPS activated from settings.
What I've tried: Not having any idea what could have caused this, I figured I'd just make a Titanium backup and use Odin to go back to DI18 using whosdaman's .tar. That should do the trick, right? WRONG! So then I figured, ok let's just go back to square 1 and used Odin to go back to DG27, same as the day I bought it. Still nothing!!!
Did I somehow truly brick the GPS?
Thanks in advance for any help with this.

AFAIK there never has been an audible confirmation at the notification bar when the GPS radio is toggled on or off. That's certainly the way my stock Epic running DI18 works.
What makes you think the GPS radio is not working? Have you tried a utility such as GPS Test? Very likely your GPS radio is functioning, and you are just being bitten by the failure-to-lock GPS bug that afflicts all Epics over time when the GPS cache data gets hosed.

Ok, well I guess I didn't notice it specifically. At least I know that is normal now.

I'm not even getting the "looking for lock" icon in the notification bar. Nothing happens at all. I'll try downloading a GPS Test though, didn't think about that thanks.

That pulsating icon only appears when some app actually starts the GPS. Just enabling the GPS toggle does not start it.
Wow I feel dumb. See I was using the google maps widget yesterday and was driving to a friends house and it wasn't using my gps location even with GPS turned on. Was only using the network.
I got so focused on getting "no response" from enabling and disabling the GPS that I failed to realize that the google map widget may not actually use GPS! It didn't occur to my retardedness to try using an app that I KNEW used GPS!!!!
Thanks boomer for helping me pull my head out of my arse!
Having a weird issue with the GPS on my AT&T LG G2. Phone is unrooted on stock firmware. The GPS icon will randomly appear in the nav bar. Sometimes when I check after that, it will be turned on and I can toggle GPS off. Other times it isn't on by the time I check it. I always leave GPS off for the battery life savings. I've tried doing a factory reset and immediately disabling Google Maps. This seems to keep it from happening, but once I re-enable Maps, it will again start randomly turning on GPS. Even after disabling Maps at this point, it still does it. Only a factory reset then immediately disabling Maps seems to keep my GPS off. Any ideas?
Thanks!
I've noticed this as well. I keep mine on but it location icon started flashing earlier in a phone call.
No clue why that would be.

Had the same issue, it's something called carrier IQ that tracks you without consent. Fortunately you can remove it with root access. There are a couple of threads in the qa and general sections which address this and solving it. Search for them and youll be on your way.
LG G2
In on Verizon. It wasn't reported to have that and I did run a check, which was clean, just to make sure.
Here's my light flashing after turning the screen in th change the channel.

Not abnormal at all. This happens when your device needs to refresh locations for multiple apps to work efficiently. We are not alone. Android thing.
What have you guys done, that BIG BROTHER is keeping tabs on ya lol

Try disable location reporting in Settings. Also, there's a good chance Google Now! is using to access your whereabouts, unless your really want those cards, turn Google Now! off (voice search still works even after that). Look around Maps settings too, and if you see location sharing or let Google use Maps data or something like that, turned that off too.

This is how I fixed it, too. If you can't figure out how to remove CarrierIQ then you can just disable it after each reboot by going to settings->apps->running->android system->stop.

Hi,
I'm having the opposite problem. When I enable my GPS, after about a minute, it turns off. It used to work fine.
I have a Samsung, but I simply can't find my issue anywhere and I ran across this thread and I'm just praying someone might have some idea what's going on. It's frustrating!
Thanks

I have the same problem. I have a rooted SM-G530H which worked fine locking onto GPS until this month (August). Lately, it takes a long time to lock on to GPS with Waze. I've tried factory reset but still the GPS lock takes so long, even on a clear and sunny day. I have GPS lock installed but don't know if it really speeds up GPS lock. I also noticed that when using Ulysse Speedometer pro, the GPS is ok (sort of) and can tell my car speed via GPS. If I have waze running in the background, I can hear it also locking to the GPS and giving me turn by turn directions. But if I return to waze as the main program, the GPS lock will be broken and will stay broken. Then if I return to Ulysse again, GPS lock will be restored after several seconds, and waze (in the background) will also lock and resume giving me turn-by-turn instructions again. So I don't know if Waze is the problem. But GPS lock really takes a long time compared to the previous month.
anybody found a soloution?
i bought my Glaxay Grand Prime on september and it doesn't lock on location for navigation (not in Waze nor in Google Maps), has anyone found the soulotion?
also, each time i try to update the software the phone crashes, will the software update help with the navugation?
Possible Solution

Reading about this and searching around, I found that somebody suggested going into Airplane mode and that doing it solved his gps problems. I tried it and all the times that I've used it in airplane mode it hasn't lost gps fix once. I used primarily for running and jogging applications, so I don't need internet or data when doing it.
Hope this helps!!!

Hi sickofgalaxy! I use gps for my running apps, Nike+ and Adidas Run and Train, most of the time. When I am home I'am connected to my home wifi and before leaving home on a run I go into airplane mode. Once in airplane mode I run GPS Status App and it locks into the satellites very quickly, I then start walking to the track where I jog; once there I start Adidas Run and Train App and use it without a problem.
Hope this helps!

I've the same problem...
I thought it would be resolved in the August update, but so far the issues continues. I can't use Google Maps or Waze. I can see the home point jumping 100 meters or more and then back to my home point. When I use navigation mode the GPS signal drops and doesn't return.
Anybody know any fixes?
Drove around using gps mapping apps like google maps yesterday and did not notice any problems like you described. GPS seems to be working fine on stock 8.1 August.

I had the exact same issue. It lasted only a day or so for me, then resolved itself. The only thing I did was constantly test the gps through the service menu.... at some point it recovered. Still not sure what happened.

Where is this option to test the Gps in the service menu?
Mi GPS doesn't work at all. I have the same issue, and can't find solution....
Yes, been having a lot of issues with the GPS. My signal just keeps dropping. It's annoying.
The test also keeps on failing.
Same here. Can't use Maps, Osmand, Waze, etc. Dropping GPS signal at random.
GPS does not work for me since I updated to Pie, even though I downgraded again to Oreo stock. I have fixed my GPS issues using the app GPS faster signal Optimizer/Fix. You have to be root. In 10 seconds and an automatic reboot all my problems with the GPS have been solved.

wow sir..
Anyone else having an issue where when using Android Auto, the Waze app won't get a correct location until I switch to the Google maps app first and then go back and everything is fine. I've tried reinstalling all apps involved and still same outcome. Not deal break but still annoying
Yes, I do the exact same thing to "fix" the problem. I originally had the problem, it went away for a period of time, now it's back again. It seems Waze wants to use GPS but is in the background/goes to sleep - due to Android auto where the phone screen is off.
As a side note, my Waze also looks like it's got green hues everywhere now both in day and night modes. It makes the map background seem less crisp around roads and road names.
Same here for waze
This only happens to me when I connect the device when its asleep.

Hmm I've only ever connected it while its asleep. I'll try and see if connecting with it awake fixes it.
I've also tried having Waze and android auto being ignored by the battery optimization and still no luck.
I have also this problem... Still... It's very annoying as Google maps is working so I guess it has something to do with waze itself and not Android auto. I hope they fix this problem. I use waze for speedtraps etc...
