I've got TWRP installed, so OTAs won't install. Is there a way to disable the update notifications or is anyone making flashable zips for them?

And that doesn't block any notifications that are actually important?

Did the suggested workaround work for you? I'm in the same boat. I just received my Nexus 6P and don't want to see the OTA notifications. Any feedback you have on how to disable these would be great. Thanks.
Cheers.

I just found this link. I followed method 2 and it worked. Just sharing in case you are still trying to disable the OTA notifications.
http://www.droidviews.com/disable-ota-notifications-android-devices/
Cheers.
Other way to disable the notification:
- press the notification long (2 sec.)
- touch the "i" (information-icon)
- uncheck notification switch.
It should bring the same result chichu_9 told us in #2.
Note: I still get important notifications (email, sms, alarm, etc). Give it a try.
For anyone wanting to defer N updates (I'm waiting for Xposed) and have that persistent update notification, here is what I believe to be a better solution:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=68622415&postcount=12
This method does not disable notifications or services, but disables the OTA cert. Credit to the OP.
Edit: Well, the joy was temporary. Renaming the OTA cert did not keep away the notification for long. It returned....

voice: "Checkbox is currently checked" when checking the checkbox in Gallery
I've played with much of the settings, but still, in the stock gallery, when I check checkbox in a photo, the phone is say "the checkbox is currently checked."
I'm not in Driving Mode, or anything like that, is there a way I can turn it off?
Thank you.
Check TalkBack service under Accessibility in phone settings and turn it off. Maybe you have Light Flow or simillar service installed?

Actually, I do have Light Flow installed, is there a way to turn the voice off in Light Flow? I'm scrolling through the menus and don't notice anything. Or is there nothing I can do?
Thank you very much for your input.
I think it's some kind of a bug. Because there was also another app on playstore that also had to be installed as accessibiity service and there was instructions on playstore how to avoid this problem but I can't remember what app it was.
I had the same problem as you and I just disabled Light flow in accessibility so it was still functional and the problem with TalkBack was gone (I had Light flow lite version so maybe this accessibility option was not necessary). You could try enabling and disabling TalkBack also, and disable all of TalkBack functions.
---------- Post added at 01:03 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:55 PM ----------
Found the app - it was iPhone notifications and here is what it says about the bug:
*** Samsung devices users with Talkback/Keyboard/AirView issues ***
* If your device is reading aloud some of your actions, note that this is a bug in Samsung's OS occuring with any accessibility service, here is a fix : http://www.productigeeky.com/faq#1
* You can follow the progress on this bug with Samsung : http://developer.samsung.com/forum/thread/samsung-devices-and-accessibility-services/77/204387
Hope it helps
Thank you for your suggestions, I appreciate it, even if they don't work, I don't mind all that much. I much prefer having light flow around because I love having the notification LED customizable.

They should be labeled as "google Text-to-speech Engine" and "samsung text-to-speech engine" in the big long list in TB.
for me this happens when floating notifications is enable
anyone know how to turn it off
Step 1: Enable Stamina mode and Low battery mode.,
Step 2: Set both of them to only activate when battery level is below 1%
Step 3: Don't let your battery level drop below 1%
That should take care of those 2 notifications. If anyone has figured out how to get rid of all the other annoying Sony notifications, please post.
There is another way to stop it
If these stamina notification fade in you can use two fingers on this notification and pull it down...
there is a checkbox you can deselect to hide these upcoming notifications

I thought every app having the permission to post a notification was in the app listing with the possibility to disable the notifications. Eco mode Control have his checkbox greyed out.
Apparently, the "real" apps involved are “SemcPowerSaveModule.apk , Settings.apk and SuperStamina.apk” and I don't see them in the app list so forget my quote :silly:

OK: Interesting bit of knowledge, which in this case doesn't help much, but might still be nice to know:
If you don't see an app in the listing or if it's checkbox is greyed out, use this:
Code:
adb shell
pm hide com.package.name
to reverse it, replace "hide" with "unhide".
This hides the app from the system, including in the drawer. It is similar to "disabling" system apps. Not recomended for things you actually use, e.g. com.android.settings or com.sonymobile.superstamina. They will not work afterwards. It works very well with the annoying "low storage" notification though. Package name is com.sonymobile.storagechecker. Just try it out, you can always unhide, and the changes are instantaneous.
ADB is great.
You can for example find packages by
Code:
adb shell
pm list packages searchterm
so for example
Code:
pm list packages settings
produces a list of all packages with "settings" in the name.
Code:
pm list packages -s settings
shows only system apps with "settings" in the name.
If you want to play around in ADB by yourself, use a questionmark after a command to see all the avaliable options for this command. The two basic commands are am (activity manager) and pm (package manager)
Code:
adb shell pm ?
Hi All, I'm struggling to turn off the vibrating notification for WhatsApp messages. I can either turn off vibrating within the general notification preferences for ALL messages or keep them on. The options within the WhatsApp settings do not work. Any ideas to solve this issue would be highly appreciated :good: Thanks
Turn off vibrations in whatsapp, then set a new sound for notification there as well.
Thx for your reply. The phone doesn't accept the ringtone change as well.
That's weird, it's working without vibration here when i do get a notification. My problem is often i don't get the notification at all, until i wake the app by opening it.
Agree, very weird. It's not clear for me which settings overrule others, which permissions have to be set and how the power saving options might influence the notifications probably.
I thought I have tried everything already but without success so far. The phone is driving me crazy. Already miss my oneplus which I passed over to my gf.
I'm also having troubles with my notifications since today... Getting nothing unless i open the app.. Very frustrating! Think its the 18s rom.. All notifications are on..I don't get it..
Had the problems already before the upgrade to 18s.
I found some Indian threads concerning notification problems in EUI 5.8 but the workarounds did not avail in my case.
Probably you want to give it a try -->

None of these tips worked for me. I have every setting to keep apps open and protected with permissions...etc etc. I can still have my other phones sitting right next to this one and a gmail message will come in to all of them except the Le Pro 3. It will just sit there and not see the new message until I open the app and manually refresh. Le Eco MUST fix this. What good is a device that does not work with push notifications!!????
All of a sudden, at least whatsapp does as expected - sound without vibration (without turning off the general phone vibration settings) and also setting other notification sounds works now. - The problem is - I really don't know how I achieved this great success
I'll check how the other notifications work now and give feedback.
I've found that notifications work fairly well after a reboot, but get steadily worse the longer you go without rebooting. Mine has been a running a few days now without a reboot and whatsapp gets kicked out of settings/running apps within minutes of using it.
I'm also having problems with the notifications in general. Gmail and Hangouts for example...
I tried Settings ->Battery->Power Saving Management and disabled everything, including Ultralong standby and lock-screen clean up. Also add to App protection Wahtsapp and more applications that I don't want to be frozen. Neither Gmail nor Hangouts show on this list.
Also, I locked Gmail and Hangouts in the EUI task manager (lock symbol) , but it appears to have no effects...
Gmail for example besides no notifications, the emails in inbox are not even refreshed...
Any help would be appreciated... I really like the phone, but I'm thinking of returning it because these issues...
The same thing is present on our LeMax 2 for months since the S16/S17 update on it, other Leeco users report the same with their later firmwares.
I think it's deliberate by leeco to lengthen battery time for review reports, and they have no intention of fixing it since the complaints on various forums have been numerous for months now.
I found this:
http://forum.le.com/in/index.php?th...il-etc-after-eui-5-8-017s-update.15539/page-4
1. Phone manager -> Power saving management->App protection->Disable auto cleaning for WhatsApp
2. Settings -> Permission -> You have allowed x apps to auto launch->enable WhatsApp
3. Settings -> Notification management -> WhatsApp->enable all
4. Phone manager>Power saving management>App battery usage alert>Never alert > whatsapp should be never alert
5. Make Sure the Apps are locked in Recent Apps. Lock means the app won’t be killed by system.
6. Third-party power management apps such as DU Battery Saver, Greenify, Battery Extender, CM Security, Battery Saver, Go Battery, Doze etc. restrict background data and thus result in delayed notification and errors
7. If still cannot receive the push message, please check whether Battery assistant is enabled. Battery assistant will restrict backgroud data and only suggest to enable when battery is low.
8. Dial *#*#46360000#*#* -> Uncheck “Enable background resource control”. And please check it after next OTA. It can help save battery.

Going on 5 hours and it has not missed a single push...I think this was the golden ticket to fix the push issues.
K, after 2 days testing, the new fix certainly seems to work at least for the 2 apps i use with push notifications, gmail and whatsapp. With gmail i still have to have the lock symbol on recents, which means to exempt it from memory purges in standby, but whatsapp doesn't seem to even need that anymore.
I've also been keeping an eye on battery consumption with this fix and, once settled from the reboot after applying the fix, there is no noticeable extra battery drain as far as i can tell. I'm still getting awesome SOT.
So I have turned off automatic updates in developer options and I am still seeing am update notification. I would rather not suppress all notifications from Google Play Services. Is there any other way to deal with this?

Stock ROM? If yes, why would you not want to update? If you are stock, rooted and maybe a kernel, there are ways to update quickly and not lose those. If a custom ROM, you may also find help in the ROM specific sub-forum.
I no longer trust Google to do the right thing with these updates. The latest fiasco where they are trying to force the half baked Google assistant down my throat is an example.
I am stock rooted with Elementalx and do my updates once every couple of months manually through flashfire. I don't want the notifications hanging around my status bar for months at a time, and I don't want to completely silence all notifications from Google Play Services.
Finally, prior to the latest update that forced GA on me, thesr notifications were never present. I suspect that Google changed something with the February update. One more reason to wait a while before committing to an update.

I don't blame you on wanting to manually update on your own schedule vs. OTA. I've always updated using full images. At first manually with fastboot, then later with FF. Is your bootloader locked? Thing is I never get update notifications *ever*. I'm stock, rooted, EX Kernel and of course my bootloader will always be unlocked. Maybe that is the difference?
On the other subject, I'm pretty sure GA is here to stay. It's integrated into those two key Google components and get updated on the fly all the time, independent of security updates. Why not just turn off GA in settings and use GN with voice deactivated? It should never bother you there. I use Nova, so the only way I ever see GA it is if I intentionally launch it.
I thought I saw a bunch of old posts about deleting YadaYada.apk from /system/app or priv-app which will remove update notifications. Check to see if you have that apk.

When you deactivate GA it does NOT relinquish the long press of the home button to its previous functionality. Instead it pops up an annoying message saying "GA is deactivated, do you want to reactivate". If you answer "Yes" GA comes back with a vengeance. If you say "no" then it simply does nothing, and next time you long press the home button the same stupid dialog is back.

OTA: Since you have manually toggled the auto updates to "off" have you tried wiping cache/dalvik? In the meantime, why not flash N4F26T and give yourself a breather for a month. It's just a security update.
GA: You're just gonna have to let your OCD go and not long-press the home button, dude. Don't tell me you used GN On Tap several times a day and want it back? C'mon. How about re-assigning the long press button? A launcher like Nova may be a solution. Reassign home button long-press used to be in Labs but I don't see it now. You can do a million things with home button short-press. Nova really is the best launcher ever.

I am running Nova, but the reassignment there only works when Nova is active. The home long press works from anywhere. I think there are other apps out there to allow this, GravityBox on Xposed worked well but Xposed seems to be dead.

This blocks ALL notifications from Google Play Services. Don't want that. On occasion GPS asks that I re-login or update, those notifications will be gone too if I block as you suggest. Xposed used to have a really nice module where you could only block specific notifications, but with Xposed seemingly dead for Nougat this is no longer an option.

On my phone that only blocked the notification for OTA updates as far as I know. I still get notifications from Google Play.
So now I can see new October update, I tried to download and install it, but it stuck and I don;t know what I have to do now.
I try reboot smartphone and clean cache, but without success.
Maybe it don't download completely and samsung cancel this update now , because when I push download button it says wait and download paused.
So what I can do now?
I try search this firmware via Frija but the last firmware is G9750ZHU2ASH2/G9750TGY2ASH2/G9750ZCU2ASH2 not October.
