Marshmallow update (lack of news) - Shield Tablet General

It seems that nvidia has already forgoten nvidia shield tablet, with earlier updates they were really quick to release, this time with marshmallow and all the defective units it seems that they are not worrying about this device anymore

I was just thinking about this and found this post. Hopefully we'll hear something soon, but I won't hold my breath. Doze would make this tablet even better.

Android 5.0(Lollipop)

Folks when to expect Android L on our devices! Lets discusse
No idea, but there's no way I'm updating from 4.3 till I'm sure I can use my SDcard the way it's meant to be used (without any restrictions). That, app ops, and battery life. Even then, I'll wait and let others be the guinea pig first and once the problems are ironed out, I'll upgrade directly to 5.0.
Hmm! Thats smart one! But i think aur sd card issues are finnaly solved in kitkat!!

To be honest, I'm not convinced Nvidia is going to bring L to the TN7. They seem to have all but forgotten it since the release of the Shield Tablet. Also, to anyone having battery life issues, have you tried a factory reset? I've had no battery life issues, and I'm running the latest update as well as the custom kernel on the dev page here with the tablet overclocked to the max.
If That happen then i will throw my tablet! I was too excited about it ! Therefore nexus 7(2012) model will get that update and in less time.
Till now im not having any issues with my battery . I havent rooted my tab yet.
I have seen several news sources that have stated the Note 7 will be getting 5.0. I'm really wondering how long it will take.

Knowing HP, its going to be 6 at least months after nVidia releases their Lollipop Update to their TN7, before we get ours...

Shield Tablet is getting Lollipop November, let's hope TN7 also get this month...
Shield Tablet gets Android Lollipop Nov 18th!

I'd hope we aren't more than a month or two behind that.

The NVIDIA Shield tablet facebook page states that the shield tablet will get the update first, then the Tegra Note 7 will be done later. Hopefully, it is not too much later.
Placing my bet on TN7 Android L release just after Christmas. Else it be the nVidia middle finger at us!
Either way let's hope the TN7 runs it better than my wife's Nexus 7 is at the moment.
Nvidia has said that they will surely update TN7 after shield tablet but no specific date is given!
Still no update? My tablet wants to update to KitKat, but I won't do it unless I can get lollipop. I've 20GB of apps on SD card so KitKat is not an option. Is lollipop going to be any better for this scenario?
Cheers
FYI guys, as cool as lollipop looks it may be a bad idea to DL it once it comes out.
I did some searching around to see how nexus owners liked it and it basically renders the 2012 version unusable and severely hampers the 2013 FHD version.
From what little info out there about how it runs on the Shield it sounds mostly positive.
My wife's N7 has been spot on since itngot a proper hard reset, I'd say its actually better than it was on KK now but that could be related to the fact its had the hard reset and some unused apps may not have been installed.

I've also heard many people report that their 2013 N7 is running fine; it seems the people having trouble with the update didn't do a full reset, which is always a good option for anyone having issues with any device. As for the 2012 N7, it's running a Tegra 3 while we're sporting a Tegra 4, so I'm sure it won't be a problem for us... frankly, the Tegra 3 was kind of a mess anyway.

Jide announces remix pro tablet.

One wonders how the long support for these new devices will last, considering how things are going,or rather not going with the current Ultra tablet.
After running a logcat of my ultra tablet running on the last OS update (Ver 203 dated april some time) while playing Alto's Adventure and waiting for the device to stop for a split second (making the game more or less unplayable.) It seems there's an issue with the nvidia driver.
I'm not going to issue a ticket, the issue is easily replicable.
if your device is suffering with the random lockups/judders etc, download Altos Adventure, fire up the game, connect your tablet via usb cable, open a command shell on your pc, fire "adb logcat" and then play till it judders, stop the logcat and scroll back and you'll see nvidia throw up a few errors.

Yep I have big usability and app compatibility problems...wonder if any fixes will ever come to current ultra tablet or if we are better off hoping for an Android n port with freeform apps and windowing.
This is probably why they got rid of Nvidia for the new tablet.

Why are u still on version .203?

Last ota update available was .203 I think. Its the release dated April something or other. Don't have the device on hand at the moment. Has there been an update pushed over the past 4 weeks?

Looks like I've an update to make when I get home, so. .303 update dated may sometime and announced two weeks back.
Is it stable? Any lock ups?
Also, why wasn't it announced here by yourself? You are, according to your signature "our jide ambassador"
Right. Wiped my device, fastboot flashed 1.5. Booted, grabbed the ota, rebooted, expected to repeat this process around 4 maybe 5 times in total, but the second ota file was for version .303.
Fired it up, liked the inclusion of Remix Central to add certain apps (even the app Remix Central is a newsworthy item that should have been announced here on the ultratablet forum.)
Fired up YouTube, watched a few videos, noticed no judders like before. All good so far.
Fired up Alto's Adventure, noticed one or two slight sluggish actions, but nothing at all like previously, the game is currently playable and the sluggish but might just be something that's more noticeable on the larger screen.
Will keep an eye on how the device fares over the weekend. If memory serves, last time I wiped and flashed each iterative ota everything was working fine for at least a week. And then it fubared.
I'm not a mod. So I can't post stickie announcements. I'm just a messenger, don't shoot. ?
Your Jide Ambassador is here!!!
Ahhh, I understand. My bad. I do apologize.
screw 303. Where is OS 3 for the ultratab?
Its out nowhere. Judging by the press release, it'll be out whenever the pro tablet is released, whenever that is...

Mu 2 cents is that this tablet is already end of life. You may see a few bug releases, but Jide is moving onto bigger and better things for Jide and leaving us to fend for ourselves. I've seen it with every android vendor so why should Jide be any different.? They got their money and don't care about the users.
I'm looking forward to a custom ROM in the near future.

Totally agree. But most manufacturers dont EOL after 1 year. Less than a year from their actual commercial release.

I hear what you're saying but 303 is a must have compared to 203. Its the only think that kept me from tossing this tablet altogether.

I just installed 303 tonight. I hope battery is better. I really dont use this much (even though i just got it in Feb) because when it sits idle it will lose alot of battery. My Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 that is almost 2..5 years old holds the charge perfectly and i dont use that much either.

.303 holds a charge better than the previous versions. Compared to the Galaxy Note I can't say. And compared to my other non dodgy tablets, it's not fair to compare (Lenovo Yoga Tab 3 10. Battery lasts nearly a week, and not just when idle.Great battery life, just don't expect much umph out of it)
Has anyone heard anything further on the Pro tablet since it was announced in June?

Any news about when will axon 7 get android N update?

I'm developing game for google daydream(their new vr platform) and zte axon 7 seems to be the cheapest android phone that is daydream ready. The problem is that in order to work daydream needs android N. Do you know what are their plans for releasing update on their phones/how fast they did it before?
At a rough guess I'd say that it will be some time after Google eventually release it. I also vaguely remember something somewhere about Daydream not being part of the initial release of Nougat but coming shortly after although a quick search has thrown up nothing.
I'm betting first quarter of 2017. I'd be shocked if it was before the new year.
Everything I've read is pointing to this year for the update they are selling it as "the first daydream phone" and I've read multiple places that they want to get it updated asap.
Sent from my Nexus 6 using XDA-Developers mobile app
Every manufacturer says they want to update ASAP but all of them take longer than they claim.
Imagine if they "rushed" it out full of bugs and things breaking. As much as we depend on these things for life itself, I am happy if they take their time, do it right the first time, then release it! I work in IT and I know from first hand experience over 22 years that you're much better off doing it right the first time then to have to go back and hopefully fix the errors!
Apparently ZTE is part of the group of oems that have early access to the source of this new Android release. As they actively market this phone as "daydream" ready I'd assume they want it to work.
heck until today we had no idea when android would be released (supposedly mid to late August).
I think it will be before November when Daydream will come.
It's really close to daydream release date, are there any news about the android 7.0/7.1 update now?

Update Signs?

First off let me say I Do Not intend for this to be another whine thread....
Just wanted to reach out and see if anyone has had any signs of an update. I recall from one of the previous now closed threads started one user mentioned the 5th as being a possible date. Though seemingly arbitrary date the 5th is here.
People chime in if you get the notification!
Nothing for me yet.
It probably won't come out until the new Google phones do. I know it's difficult for flashaholics, but be patient.
Now I'm waiting for the September security update for Marshmallow, maybe it will be late too. They seem to be in a huge work.
This thread is the best sign.

That's what intended mine to be, but it went south so fast! Lol no sign for me yet, I'm hoping maybe by tonight. It's REALLY behind said release date. Staying optimistic!
This is the only sign from Google I have seen.
Absolutely notting here. Not even the sept security update.
There will be a September in 2017,too
If I'm remembering the same post, a user speculated that the update would be tied to the September monthly security update. That seemed like pure speculation. I hope the updates are posted soon but I don't think today will be the day, since it is already the afternoon and a business holiday. Hope I'm wrong!
Hope it's soon.

Maybe tomorrow then, I forgot it was a holiday. What gets me is how they got everyone all riled up that it was gonna be in August, and it's gonna be out at the same time haha
Yeah Im ready for the official build too, this NPD90G preview wants me to want more, or at least some minor fixes.
No updates.............there will be speculations.
No speculations.....probably updates.
From what I've heard Qualcomm needs to do some driver upgrades for full Android N Support. If that is the case, it would explain why Google hasn't released the update yet, they simply can't until Qualcomm delivers. I can imagine Qualcomm has their hands full at the moment with all the smartphone companies out their requesting driver updates to support Android N as well.
I don't have any references for this, as I read it in a post somewhere but don't remember where. Don't take my word for it. But of course it would be interesting if someone could confirm or deny this.
I don't expect the update any time soon, but at least the latest beta runs very smoothly on my device. Can't complain at the moment.
Thats what has confused me DP5 runs well so id have thought it was near release quality but I guess not with the update taking so long. As far as qualcomm surely google should be the highest priority for drivers/updates given that they build the entire base that all other android phones base off? So an N driver for a specific SoC should work for all devices using that SoC?
I'm pretty satisfied with the Uber N ROM as is.
What @onemandivision said is correct, driver updates are critical. It's not just the kernel and the android base.
I'm a little confused by the delay though since it is already clear that phones on chips older than snapdragon 800/801 won't get nougat (ie 65-70% of all android phones according to some surveys), so there should be very few drivers to update/fine tune? Am I wrong?
Sent from my Nexus 6 using XDA-Developers mobile app
september update , my s7 edge still has the july update , samsung are dam slow pushing updates , my nexus 6 has the latest dev update but hope oneday soon the real 7.0 comes out.
New Marshmallow Image up... (MOB31E)

Oreo 8.1 when?

Hi,
First apologies for the long text but I'd like to eco some of the frustration around this awful topic of Android upgrades. And perhaps put in text some of the frustration of many Android users like us.
The subject goes like this: Google rushes to release a new Android version each year. After the release, the OEMs like Samsung, Huawei and others rush to release it to (some of) their devices.
Now a couple of months after the initial release, Google comes and fixes a bunch of issues of that initial release and add a bit more functionalities -- some are important bugs like the Bluetooth in Oreo. It happened with Nougat, Oreo and perhaps before if someone wants to check.
Keeping the same logic, the OEMs would need to do that second update to, at least, fix the bugs... But no. Seems we're stuck having those bugs and lucky if a newer Android version comes along.
I believe the Mate 9 will get Android P but perhaps (again) suffering from the same illness: initial release gets pushed and bugs on a Android P.1 will never come...
Don't get me wrong, I'm happy to have Oreo. But is there a major effort to at least take the next step of releasing the "final stable" Android version...? The 8.1, 9.1, X.1... Is this fair to the people that invested so much money in a device?
A last note here. I've a PC that I bought some 12 years ago. Initially it ran Windows Vista. Yesterday I've update it to Win 10 18.03. Latest release. I've heard people saying "well, you paid a lot for that PC and smartphones are disposable devices". Not true; perhaps the PC price was a bit higher but the Mate 9 was close at 800 Euros. The PC is still getting update after all these years. The Mate 9, perhaps one more update...
Thoughts?
You make good points about bug fixing, especially Bluetooth.
Well, unfortunately, everything up to the mate 10 might "suffer" from the problem all android phone suffer from.
If you think about it, it kind of goes against the business model of the manufacturer & carrier, to spend the time to
update each device, to a newer version of anything, be it an OS update or security patch. I'm sure they try to check
to make sure the patch/update doesn't brick the phone, but in their minds, why bother when most people typically
toss their phones every 24 months or less. (not me!). From the carriers stand point, it's easy to get people to upgrade
their phones, "for free" if they lock into a contract, or, purchase a phone for less than 50 bucks a month or some such
thing.
But, hopefully, if project treble holds true, those days will be gone in a cuple years as GOOGLE will have more control
over the major/minor updates, and leave the "bloat/UI" updates to the manufacturers & carriers.
I do not think it has 8.1 directly update to Android P.
Mate 8 will receive Oreo, so it's safe
