Can't downgrade to nb1 from oc3 - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

I so hope someone can help me... I been trying to downgrade back to nb1 from oc3, I've followed all. Steps listed on xda. I've tried 1.85, 3.07 and 3.09 versions of Odin and it recognizes phone fine n I use ap n the nb1 rootable tar file but it gets stuck at loading pit files? If I remember rite... It. Stays there. I don't understand what it is saying or a asking for. I've tried front n rear USB ports and all different data cables but all samsung cables. What am. I doing wrong? I need to get it back to nb1 rootable tar. Also once and if I ever get this loaded can I just stay on nb1 firmware.... I don't like lollipop at all. Pleaseeeeee someone help me. I just am. At a loss. And BTW I have rooted alot of phones so I'm not total noob, but this Sgh-i337 sure makes me feel that way. Ty. Everyone for any help.

Hi again and I just wanted to update.... I still can't flash nb1 tar file on my Sgh-i337 I've tried all versions of Odin n everyone has message of... Set partition and get pit for mapping... Then it just fails. I've tried deleting drivers n reloading them. I've tried all USB ports on my pic I've even used original samsung cables tried 4 of them and still no go. This phone is crazy I'm trying to downgrade from 5.0.1 lollipop to nb1 rootable tar.... So I can root. Otherwise this phone is useless to me. I really really need someone's help here... I've searched all xda n tried all suggestions and still nothing. I know someone out there has a solution to this issue. I even tried kingroot n it doesn't work with lollipop. Pleaseeeeee help... Ty

I am truly thinking the partition on this phone is messed up... I've been doing some research and pit mapping is it. Searching for. Storage partition to install tar file..... I'm. Just stuck now and no one seems. To have any suggestions. I know I can't be the only one that's run into this before. Read my other 2 posts and you will see what all I've tried. This is ridiculous that I can't root or even downgrade to. Nb1 to. Root this dang phone. I'm. Not feeling to good about it right now. I beg someone please help me. I. See alot of people looking at my posts but guess they like. Me and need help. I just wanna root this dang phone. Is that asking to much? Lol... Sorry I'm. Just so frustrated.

[Q] Samsung Galaxy S4 I337 AT&T Stuck on Boot (SOLVED!)

Hello,
Problem:
I own a Samsung Galaxy S4 I337 model from AT&T with a locked bootloader. While using safestrap I accidentally checked the /system folder while wiping the STOCK ROM. I didn't yet have another working ROM loaded onto the phone (Safestrap allows you to boot from multiple different ROMS). My phone now freezes at the Samsung logo when I try to boot normally, and I can't reflash the stock ROM in download mode as the bootloader is still locked (I can, however, boot into download mode).
My phone is recognized by ADB which (theoretically) means I can push files back to the device. I haven't yet tried although I'm afraid it may not work as only 2/3 drivers successfully install on my computer when I plug the phone in.
My request from the great tech gods at XDA Forums:
1) If anyone can please reply with any ideas/solutions to my problem I would greatly appreciate it. (PLEASE, ANYTHING. I'M DESPERATE!)
2) If anyone could supply me with a download for the Galaxy s4 I337 /system folder I could attempt to use ADB to push it onto the phone and reboot. WARNING: I'm not an expert on Android and know nothing about the /system folder. Using the /system folder from your personal phone could supply me with very personal information about you/your phone. Please only do this if you know what you're doing!
My ideas:
1) Use android ADB to push the missing files back to my phone, although I don't know if I deleted the entire /system folder or just select things inside it. Also I can't find any downloads for a /system folder anywhere on the Internet.
2) Take it back to AT&T and play dumb. Hopefully they can at least temporarily unlock the bootloader to reflash the stock ROM for me.
Any ideas are GREATLY appreciated,
JT
PS: If you need any more information please leave a reply and I will update the post ASAP. :good:
EDIT: I am running 4.3 Jellybean. Also in answer to your response, I can't flash the firmware again as the bootloader is locked. (Unless I'm missing something and you know more than me, I'm no expert.)
EDIT 2: Looks like I may be wrong and you can reflash the stock ROM on my locked bootloader. Also, for future responses, my S4 has the MF3 baseband although I'll try the thread you suggested. (With the files for my device of course)
EDIT 3: Having trouble flashing stock firmware again with ODIN even though I've now been told that it's possible, read below for more details. I think it's due to the PIT file or the fact that I was running 4.3 and I believe I am trying to flash back to 4.2.2. Please help!
SOLVED: Thanks to ted77usa, I flashed the MK2 stock ROM to my phone through ODIN and this time everything went without a hitch. THANKS A TON!
Also if any mods want to move/delete/do whatever with this post feel free to do so, I don't see this post being very useful for educational purposes as my logic on locked bootloaders was wrong and I don't want people getting the wrong idea.
What firmware are you on? I'd Odin flash the tar files for that firmware.

You can use ODIN just fine on the locked bootloaders. Follow the directions in the MK2 TARs thread in the general section.

I'm downloading them now from here. Can you verify for me that this is up to date/correct? I previously tried to flash the .tar.md5 file for my phone although I got a "write error" and after researching it I found that you can't flash files in download mode with a locked bootloader. Apparently this is wrong though, thanks for the all the help so far!

I followed the thread exactly as it said but it failed. Then I included the the PIT file but still failed. I've attached a screenshot of ODIN after I tried with the PIT file.
EDIT: My phone is giving a message that reads: "SECURE CHECK FAIL : PIT" I read that PIT files have to be signed with a device-specific key to work, although it seems that most people aren't having a problem using one found off of the Internet. Any ideas?
EDIT 2: I believe those files are for 4.2.2, I was running 4.3, is this the issue? Also I don't know if my phone was updated OTA or not, I bought it from eBay. :/

Thanks for the reply, but before I go any further I should clarify some information about my phone. I bought an AT&T Samsung Galaxy S4 from eBay, when I got the phone it was running 4.3. The catch: My phone isn't actually on AT&T service OR SIM unlocked (I think), I'm with a cell provider called NET 10. How NET 10 works is that it pays AT&T to run off of their service, NET 10 is cheaper for the customers because it isn't as fast as AT&T. AT&T and Net 10 have an agreement where you can take any phone from AT&T and hook it up to NET 10 without unlocking it. Although I think that NET 10 may unlock your phone when you hook it up to their service, I'm not sure. What makes my think that is that when I booted my phone up after transferring to NET 10, a picture of an open padlock appeared under the Samsung logo.
Being on NET 10 may have changed some of that, specifically the MF3/MK2 baseband. Not being an expert on basebands and how they correlate to your cell service provider, will following your instructions result in not being able to connect to NET 10's service? It's probably a stupid question, I know, but with my minimal knowledge I figured I should ask before I followed through with anything.

It shouldn't. Your phone is the same model, and the firmware appears to be the same. At most you might have to put in an APN to get your mobile data back.

Thanks, I'm aware of the APN. I had SEVERAL issues with NET 10 when I first set that up. (THEY MISSPELLED THE F****** IP ADDRESS ON THEIR WEBSITE!) Still frustrated about that one. D:<
I'm now preparing to follow through with ted77usa's instructions. Sorry if I respond slow, I have to wait 5 minutes after each post/edit as I haven't been approved by a mod yet.
EDIT: I may have to continue this tomorrow, the site ted77usa used to host the .tar files is pretty slow. The download is going to take an hour and it's getting late here. I can't believe how much support I'm getting from everyone, thanks a TON! I'm clicking the thanks button on everyone who's helped me, it's the least I can do!

MK2 safe root method. became rooted and everything was great. downloaded xposed framwork/installer. selected fast boot option by accident been stopping at the atnt splash screen ever since. i am able to boot into download/odin mode as well as recovery. I have tried mutiple wipes and facotry resets but same outcome, hangs at atnt screen. i creeped around the threads and found this. My first question is did Ted77usa files from his link take forever for you also? and second how many attmepts did it take with odin?

It took about an hour for me to download ted77usa's files but I have relatively fast internet (16 mb/ps). As soon as the files downloaded it worked first try, are you in download mode? If you are and it's still not working you may need the PIT file and to make sure that re-partition is checked along with the 2 others that ted77usa mentioned.
drivers finished

Help!!! ODIN/Kies Failed Update, Wont Update at all (solved)

i have a sgh-i337 that i was going to downgrade and root via the saferoot method on here. i first downgraded the modem so i would have access to the hidden menu for unlocking purpose, after that the phone wouldnt accept any other flashing. i tried the PIT, stock firmware, stock rom all of these will fail in odin. i have tried to do a emergency firmware restore in kies which also fails.
please tell me theres some option im missing somewhere
You can't down grade firmware on the i337. Try flashing the same firmware version as you had before attempting to down grade in Odin

i was on NB1, sorry about the lack of info there.
i finally got it sorted out... well almost.
it turns out that flashing the modem again allowed me to get the phone back into working condition, after which i was able to downgrade to MK2
this worked fine and dandy with one issue remaining, i have no sound what so ever. no notification, music, video, nothing. wont even play music for that matter, says it cant open this type of file "mp3" even pandora wont play.
thanks for the replies.
flashing a stock NB1 fixed the sound issue, guess i will have to wait for someone to root till i mess with it again.
and for anyone interested the unlock method via hidden menu worked for me doing that downgrade/upgrade. im on tmobile

You can't use the ODIN modem files. You can get root on NB1. Follow the guide specifically, then flash the modems from RockRatt's thread through Safestrap.

Can't use Odin to flash firmware, no recovery, no OS, HELP

Well, I broke my phone.
My earpiece boost stopped working and I could barely hear on the phone, the new Facebook app was crashing Facebook constantly and I was getting random reboots yesterday so I figured I would go for something new.
Because this was my first rom on my S4, I figured I should go back to stock first, bad idea. I loaded Odin up, went to flash the stock firmware to install the newest version of Sacs rom, and it failed right at NAND write start!!
I even went online and downloaded a newer firmware (February) and that failed also. I can't do the emergency fix in Kies and I can't use the other option in Kies because it says my serial is incorrect
I don't know what to do at this point, but I desperately need my phone ASAP in case my boss calls me.
Any help appreciated.
April
Well you REALLY don't give much info.
What version of Android were you on when you got your phone?
Do you have the T version of the phone or just the standard.
What ROM are you talking about 'bening your first'?
How did you install it?
What file did you try and Odin?
It is recommended you read, read some more, search and then read some more to keep just such things from happening.
Just a wild guess but you tried to Odin a .tar to a version 'previous' to the version you started with.
OR you tried to Odin a .tar for the wrong model - tried a non T .tar on a T model or vice-versa
Search for the FULL NAE .tar if you are on the 'standard' model and Odin that one.
Or, if on the T variant, hit up those threads, find the lates .tar and Odin that.
@aprilx
So great to see you posting back after asking for help.

Oh, wait you didn't.
Guess all is good.
smmmeeesh.
Sorry, I worked 16 hours yesterday, so checking the forums was the last thing on my mind considering I got up at 5am and got home at 9:30pm.
I figured out what it was, after trying a million different things. I found a MJA stock firmware and I was able to flash that, and now I finally have Kitkat on my device.

My lollipop woes

Was trying to use flashfire to retain root and upgrade to lollipop from 4.2.2 MF3 kernel (locked bootloader). After that it wouldn't get past the boot logo. I thought no biggie, but now that I have tried using ODIN probably 20 different times with it always failing at system.img I am losing hope.
I've tried numerous usb cables and ports and am running on a windows 8.1 PC. I have a complete set of MF3 tar files that I have been using and a pit file to restore the bootloader(?) after PDA fails. It seems there is always some sort of solution and am hoping that someone more experienced than me can give me some guidance? Please help, I just need this thing functioning again.
Have you tried flashing nb1? If not, I'd try that, and then upgrade to nj4 if you don't want to go to lollipop. Downloads and instructions here if you need it.
You can always try a different computer seems to have worked for me on one then more occasion also try using a box to do the flash for you if you know of someone that has a z3x box or octopus box they can probably help you out. or try using a different version of odin and if all else fails try using KIES (SMART SWITCH) which i do hate to recomend but seems to help people in these situations. about root what S4 do you have an I337 or the I337m and you can always flash TWRP and install GOLDENEYE (only if your the I337m variant. Hope this post helps you ill keep in eye on the post to see if i can further help you.

"Old" I337 Galaxy S4 failed to root and now won't boot normally

I have two ATT I337's and wanted to root them both. The first and newest one worked fine but it has a busted screen and is locked. It was my test run and went very well except for the wifi problem that many others had trying to load towelroot from the net. Btw, it would be helpful to all going forward if someone would edit those instructions to download say towelroot first!!! I found a solution that I will post later.
Unfortunately my second and primary phone failed early in the process. After I loaded NC1_Stock, it would only boot to either the Recovery menu or the Odin menu. I have tried loading NC1 again, tried NJ4, tried safe mode (will not load), pulling the batt, factory wipe (ouch) and then tried emergency recovery in Kies. NOTHING is working. I did notice that the sticker in this I337 has NO serial number! So with Kies I used the serial from my broken one, on the second one. Unlike my other one which has a serial number on the sticker. So I am not sure if this is an older model, a refurb or what.
I must admit that I did NOT check the original firmware version when I started this process.
In any case I am looking for ANY options to get my i337 working again. Are there any other firmware versions to try? (link pls) Anyone? A phone that only goes into recovery or Odin mode is not much fun!
Honestly, I'm not sure what you did with the two phones with IMEI and stuff lol.
You have to back to NB1 firmware and work from there. Follow this guide until 3rd section on whichever phone you can Odin.
Make sure to completely close or remove Kies software. It's known to cause problems with Odin.

I have gone back to NB1 multiple times(see orig post) and I get the same result. How do I disable Kies if I can only get to recovery or Odin menus? No matter what I do, I can only get to those two menus.

I don't see any mention of NB1 in your original post. If you use the guide I linked to, you don't need to do anything with NC1. You flash NB1 and go straight to OC3.
Just to be sure, you're using this Odin (3.09), right? Because that's the one you need. By disabling Kies, I mean just close the program or remove it from your computer. Both Kies and Odin are independent so you don't need Kies to use Odin and vice versa.
OC3
Apologies. I did not notice that you were saying NB1 instead of NC1. I was able to recover by loading NB1. Thanks! I am using odin 309.
I did try going to NJ4 after recovery, but I lose wifi. Where do I get OC3???

Found it in the link from your first post. After reading through the process I am not sure I really want to go to OC3. Any issue with staying on NB1? Is there a more stable 4.x.x release that I should go to?

OC3 is newest Android version 5.0 (Lollipop). Some people say it eats more battery, but I don't feel any difference. To me, it feel more smoother, faster, and much more fluid. Even my father, who is not tech savvy at all, told me it was faster than before. It's as stable as any 4.x.x. I'd say the update is worth it.
The guide feels longer than it actually takes. You only need to follow sections 1-3 if you want OC3 update. Actually only Section 2 Section 3 since you already have NB1 working. Section 4 is optional. You'll be done within 10 minute max. :good:

You did mean section 3 right? "Upgrading to ROOTED STOCK OC3 (Lollipop) using "keep root" method". Maybe I will give it a try. The download took a while and I still need to go the whole G+ thing.

Yep, I meant Section 3 Root your NB1 if it's not already.
You can avoid G+ thing and download the Flashfire APK directly from here.
