hi guys, I have TWRP flashed on ok, but whenever i flash a kernel with odin, it appears to complete ok, but the phone begins to boot then freezes on a black screen with some lines of text at the top. I have to pull the battery and enter download again, and re-flash recovery.
im also unclear about any potential requirement to unlock the boot loader, im not sure what the current status of that is either on mine.
thanks
G

..I'm sorry for my english skills.. i want advice about this situation
I've got the same issue on a D802. Phone is booting and running just fine, stock rooted KK, but atm I'm screwed if I ever need recovery.
Will simply flashing stock FW again fix it? I would think so, but thought I'd be better asking here first, just in case... Don't want my favourite phone ever being reduced to a paperweight.
Cheers
Ok so recently I was backing up and wiping my phone as a procedure I do every couple of months to make sure everything's up-to-date.
But when I tried to boot into it this time, it got stuck on Motorola's unlocked bootloader screen and won't boot into recovery mode or turn off.
Everytime I try to turn it off, it reboots to said screen and gets stuck. My previous root was phh's Superuser, and I was upgrading it to Magisk's root.
I was also upgrading twrp 3.0.0 athene to twrp 3.1.1.
Currently I have the stock firmware downloaded from AndroidSages and the OTA Update pulled from my phone, as well as all the files stated above.
All I'm trying to do is boot into recovery mode, as I can make my way from there. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hold power and volume down for 2-5mins it will boot into bootloader from there you can boot into recovery or flash the stock rom
ADB will not work unless you are booted into bootloader or the os

That's the issue, it's not booting into recovery mode. If I could boot into TWRP I could push the stock firmware to the phone and I think I'd be all well and good.
What seems to be happening is that because the warning message comes before the phone can boot into recovery mode I can't boot into recovery mode.
That advice would be more helpful for someone with a different issue.

So you saying you can boot into bootloader
If yes then try reflashing the twrp
Or just boot recovery using fast boot
fastboot boot recovery twrp.img
Try the older version

Maybe I wasn't being clear the first time but here's a vidual interpretation. The issue I'm having is that I can't boot into the bootloader, if I could I'd do what you said.
A Proper Load: Device Powers On > Motorola Boot Warning > Bootloader/Recovery/Normal Boot
My Issue: Device Powers On > Motorola Boot Warning [Freeze]
Somehow it fixed itself. All I did was reinstall Android Studio and the Android SDK and it work.
ADB wasn't showing any devices before the install, but now it is.
In case this happens in the future, can someone figure out what the hell happened?
Now that issue is solved, my wifi seems to not be working. From the moment I booted into the stock rom I haven't been able to connect/view any wifi networks.
So I was trying to install the new Oreo beta, and couldn't get into TWRP, and couldn't get it to flash it either. So I tried to reinstall the stock recovery by using flashall, but during the process I accidentally disconnected my phone. For a while I was stuck in a bootloop, but I've gotten it to the point where I actually get in. But it still says my device is corrupted and cannot be trusted and may not work properly. Does anyone know how to fix this? The phone is functional, but I worry that it will fail to boot when I'm not near a computer.
Edit: Problem solved, realized I needed to flash the full stock.
that message comes up when bootloader is unlocked
For that specific boot message (I believe it's a red screen) you have to use invisiblek's boot fix.
Look at his page https://mata.readthedocs.io/en/latest/ at the very bottom and follow the instructions.
Quick Question

Do I fastboot flash this boot image then the stock boot image or just over top of the stock boot image? Also the boot fix image is only ~26mb while the stock boot image is ~65mb?
Hi everyone, I tried to use this guide to root my phone.
Can confirm it's International, so Exynos.
Used Odin 3.12 and TWRP image 3.1.1 for hero2lte, which is the correct version.
Everything flashed perfectly - Got the OK from Odin, so can't see any problems that side.
Now the problem I'm getting:
When booting into recovery, I get installing updates... then 'No command' screen, like in this thread
I have factory reset via the recovery I DO have (I don't think this is TWRP, there's no touch interface, and it's all controlled via volume + power keys). This allows me to boot into the OS.
I have the option to boot into bootloader, and this takes a little while to do, but seems to fail and boot into the OS anyway.
I have no way of trying to reflash TWRP that I'm aware of, and I'm kinda stuck... could anyone help me from this point on please? Thank you!
EDIT: I'm trying to install custom ROMs and tweaks (Not sure if things like busybox/gravitybox/xPosed framework etc. exist anymore - haven't touched custom stuff for 3 years now! If you know, please let me know too!) So are there OTHER steps I should be aware of/know if I wanna proceed?
(just posting reply so I can see this thread later on, gonna do the same thing after exams, if I get same issue, this will be helpful)
P.S: By the way, when flashing TWRP, deselect auto reboot and see if you can go to recovery without booting it first. Sorry can't think of more options :S
after disabled auto reboot, then holding vol up and home and boot it booted to twrp.
Flash each of the checkboxes individually or it will send you back to download mode
Only one checkbox at a time also make sure ur oem unlock is enabled
Hey! I guess you can see from the title that I am a toootal noob in terms of custom recoveryes, roms and rooting, but I was trying to flash pixel experience on the phone, because my warranty recently expired and wanted to try it out. So I searched and I found to flash a rom on any phone I need a custom recovery and found that TWRP is the most popular and supported the phone so I installed odin and the samsung usb drivers, turned on bootloader and usb debugging in the developer settings, booted into the bootloader, connected the phone to my pc and used odin(tried by running it with and without adminstrator) to flash the tar file, with auto reboot turned off, it says it's installed succesfully, but when I hold the power and volume down button to exit bootloader and hold the power and volume up button to boot into recovery mode , instead of showing the phone model and then powered by <whatever it is> it shows me the phone model and under it it says that i have an unofficial OS that may harm my phone or something like that and sends me back to bootloader this time with "<!>" in the upper left corner and something about vbmeta. If I understand it right vbmeta is verified boot which as the name suggest makes the phone boot into the official os and you turn it off when you turn on bootloader. The only way to get out of that is to flash the official firmware again. I would really appreciate it if someone helps me with this. If not I guess I will try to flash Orange Fox recovery.
Try flashing this first, then TWRP
