internal storage isn't mounted when device is running - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello all
I have a problem with my nexus 4:
The internal storage isn't mounted (or isn't mounted for writing), the symptoms are:
1. No app can write to the internal storage (TB says Internal storage is full, taking a screenshot says the same error, if i'm trying to use es file explorer i can see the files but can't edit them. surprisingly taking photos using the camera works fine).
2. when i connect the phone to the pc i see the nexus 4 device, but it's empty
3. on recovery the storage works as regular
i've figured out something wrong with the mounts, i tried searching a little
my mounts are attached to this post (this are the mounts when the phone is running)
i couldn't find any mount to /storage/emulated/0 or /sdcard
i have no idea when this is happened, i did a clean install of chroma 6.0 on euphoria rom and the problem is still happening
i hope someone can figure this out
thanks in advance

[info] gs3 not saving to external storage

I just thought you all should know ( if you didn't already) that if you have a sdcard installed in your gs3, that /sdcard in your file manager is not actually the external memory it's internal. I found that out by viewing my storage availability under settings and seeing that the Items that I thought were going to external storage, were in fact going to internal storage.
As it turns out, if you navigate to the root of your device in whatever file manager that you use (your device must be rooted to do so), you will find another storage by following the path /mnt/extsdcard. That is actually your external sdcard and not /sdcard. I don't know why Samsung did it this way, but there it is.
Most apps (like camera) will let you specify where to save things. Most but not all. Just have to look in each app.
Device does not have to be rooted to navigate to the base. Checked with estrongs and several others. You just have to enable going back to root in app settings. Or even changing where the app starts from (instead of /mnt/sdcard/ change to /mnt/). With es file explorer it is even easier than that. App starts on sdcard. Press favorites, select external sd. When you want to go back, press favorites and select home.

Most of us who have been with Android for a while now know this, maybe some of the noobs might find it helpful though.

Internal sd doesn't exist

Hello! I have updated to 2.3 and then installed Aurora 4.0. I don't remember changing partitions or something but now I cannot use the internal sd. External sd and the internal storage (where apps are installed) work fine. But the internal ad (the one with the 2gb) doesn't even show up. I remember putting music and photos to /hwuserdata and everything would be working OK. Now when I click properties on that folder it shows 0 bytes and no permission. I tried making it everything rw but didn't work. Could someone please help me?

In the screenshot as you can see, it says USB storage but doesn't show up anything else

[Q]It's possible to mount internal storage with recovery ?

Hi folks,
Can you tell me if it's possible to mount the internal memory of the I9505 with CWM or TWRP ? I know there's an option for that but don't know if it's working with the internal memory ?
My friend has deleted pictures on his internal storage, I can't access from Windows cause the phone connect in MTP mode.
I just want to mount the internal storage as a "mass storage" to scan it with some recovery software.
He live far away from my house, I don't have the phone with me right now, I ask this question before he come here, if the answer is negative he don't have to drive a long time for nothing.
Thanks for your help.
Best regards.
Cheers.
EDIT : I think it's not possible. I can't mount my internal SD with my Nexus4. I've tried the cygwin method but no luck. There's any adb command to mount internal storage on recovery ?

storage/emulated/legacy is empty. Also /sdcard links to storage/emulated/legacy.

Hello all I recently installed XInternalSD from xposed app. Before I did this if I opened Root Explorer and clicked the /sdcard path it would show the files on the internal memory. Now it links to emulated/storage/legacy which is blank and only 900MB in size. Is that correct? I swear it's not.
/storage/emulated/0 shows my internal files just fine, and extSDcard shows the files on my external SD card just fine.
The main reason for this thread is my Titanium backup is failing now because the backup location is set to /storage/emulated/legacy/TitaniumBackup and it says there isnt enough free space. This process worked fine before I installed XInternalSD. I can set it to my external SD card I suppose, but read somewhere that post Android 4.2 it should point to legacy.
I am running CM 10.2.1, Android 4.3.1.
Anyone have any experience or advice?

Samsung galaxy s5 neo - Keep twrp backups on external SD card?

I am just wondering, if it is safe to keep my backup i just made, on my external SD card? Its much bigger than the backups were for my old device, and its kinda taking up the rest of my internal storage right now...
But what i am wondering is if i do transfer it, will twrp see it successfully in recovery mode in case a backup is needed??
thanks
Hi there!
I'm on a G900FD with TWRP v3.0.2-1 , but TWRP is mostly universal for this level of modification.
TWRP will initially display only the backups in the default backup location. Backups are stored as a (typically timestamped, though any name will do) folder containing the backup images, a log and a settings file.
TWRP keeps its settings, backups and (maybe) themes in the ./TWRP directory in your internal storage. The settings files ( ./TWRP/.twrps , note the dot before twrps, use ls -a to find it) is always located in here, but the default location for backups can be changed from your internal storage to your external storage via TWRP's GUI.
To change default storage location, follow:
1: Reboot to recovery. Enter encryption pattern/PIN/passphrase if needed.
2: Tap Mount, then tap Select Storage. Note at the top of the screen, under the Mount title, is something akin to EMMC or Internal Storage or Internal, you get the idea. This will change in the following steps.
3: Tap the radio button of the storage you want to default to in the popup that appears, then press OK.
4: Verify that the display now reads SD card, External Storage, whatever.
5: Under Home > Backup, the Storage: line should now read External/ SD Card / whatever, instead of the Internal Storage variant.
6: Optional: Make a backup, just to see where it says the backup location is in the log.
To reverse modification, follow instruction again.
Do note that failure to provide the SD card, or failure to mount it, will result in TWRP defaulting back to internal storage, which may fail due to lack of space. Not a problem for me ( 128G SD card represent ), but something to think about.
To transfer the backup from the internal storage to the external, reboot back to Android, and use a file manager to move the entirety of the BACKUPS folder from INTERNAL/TWRP to EXTERNAL/TWRP . Without more information about your build, I can't provide paths to follow, but mine would be:
Internal Location: /storage/emulated/0/TWRP/BACKUPS/(SERIAL NUMBER)/(TIMESTAMP_OF_BACKUP)
External Location: /storage/(SDCARD GIBBERISH)/TWRP/BACKUPS/(SERIAL NUMBER)/(TIMESTAMP_OF_BACKUP)
Note that TWRP will require that each backup is located in the same directory as the serial number of your phone, so i.e. mine must be in:
/storage/98A4-1D0F/TWRP/BACKUPS/e6209199/2016-08-03--21-16-31
for a backup made on the 3rd of August, 2016 at 9:16:31 UTC.
If anything is unclear, feel free to reply!
Happy flashing!
Thanks! I'll have to give this a try when I've got some time tonight
