Samsung Focus as USB drive + custom icon

This mini guide is to show you how to get your Focus as a USB drive and with a properly icon. The default Windows icon for a mobile player was very childish (like from xp), mine looks like this:

Close Zune, disconnect your phone
Open regedit from Start/Run, then browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\USB\
Search for "ZuneDriver"
Select "WUDF" and set this keys:

Select "ZuneDriver" and set this keys:

UseWpdPrivateInterface = 0
Copy the attached i917.ico to some folder (for example Program Files\Zune)
Select "Device Parameters" (parent of ZuneDriver key), and set this keys:

ShowInShell = 1
PortableDeviceNameSpaceExcludeFromShell = 0
EnableLegacySupport = 1
Icons = %ProgramFiles%\Zune\i917.ico (or your own path to the custom icon)
Press Ctrl+Shift+Esc, task manager will open, under processes kill Explorer.exe
Goto File/New Task and type cmd.exe
Execute the following command in the command prompt

CD /d %userprofile%\AppData\Local
DEL IconCache.db /a
Go back to task manager, File/New Task and type explorer.exe
Connect your phone and close Zune (if you want to access the phone as usb drive)
Done

What files can be transferred?
In addition to the files supported by ZUNE, what other file types can be transferred from PC to WP7 device?

None because those files are not exposed (other partition?)

Error creating New Folder
I keep getting:
The device has either stopped responding or has been disconnected.
Zune is closed.
Cables are tight.

OK, I am not sure if you can create folders everywhere. I am not in my PC now, but I will try tonight. Where are you creating your folder?

having this done .. can one access the files and things stored on the phone . like maybe a new way to unlock the device ?

No, only things exposed by the phone like photos and videos.

You can make new key with openssl command (just change NAME and PASSWORD):

Just 2 questions-
Is drag and drop possible?
Also how about signing with different keys like signaptic?

The drag and drop is not possible for the moment I try to add in the next version!
For signing with other I don't know the application use signapk.jar with privatekey.pk8 and publickey.x509.pem so if you want to use another keys just replace the two key file and rename it with the same name (privatekey.pk8 and publickey.x509.pem)

is this supported to sign ROM?
i use this to sign CM7.0.0 ROM after i remove some media files (notification/ringtone) and install to HTC Desire, all is good, but whenever i try to flash UOT theme zip, my phone stuck at static boot screen.
is there anything about signing will cause this problem? or the problem is about something else?

Apk was signed (not yet tested), but same error when trying to sign a zip file

I noticed the developer hasn't been active lately. Is this project still active?

I'm not active for the moment but I have noticed the bug and I release a new version in few weeks!
Release updated in 1.2.1, fixed the bugs with file's name

malware found when i tried to extract it and run it....

Download the update 8.10.12157 DNI3, BUT do not install it.
Turn on the PC display of hidden files.
Re-connect the phone.
Open the folder on the PC => Phone => Data => Users => System => AppData => Local => UpdateStagingRoot
Copy the replacement MainOS archive folder (the folder PLAT optional) UpdateStagingRoot in the phone.

Make a Hard Reset.

My ROM can't do interop on wp81. However, it does CAPs unlock.
I have modded version for 8.1, but it's not released yet.

If i am on 8.1 PfD with wich ROM i can flash this your custom?

With the right ID_CAP it could work.
So atm I only can browse D:\WPSystem\ on the sd card.

its a really nice start but there are more Problems like lots of interop unlocked xap's can't be installed.

the phone is dev blocking it because if you remove the card and drop it in your pc you will see the folder.

same here , but on pc you can explore everything on the sd card.
I was looking with web reg but can't find a key that could "unlock" it (this doesn't mean that the key isn't there )

@contable: Just a reminder that the full-capabilities version of the Webserver can access the SD card just fine (Filesystem, path is D:\)

Thanks for your reminder, but it doesn´t help either.
The folders I would like to browse are blocked on device.
Is there any new capatility for 8.1 which could help ?
On the internal storage is blocked C:\Data\programs\WINDOWSAPPS\ (installation folder)
On the as card is blocked: D:\WPSystem\AppData\Local\Packages\"appname"\ (appdata folders)

How to start? instructions are listed below
1. Download ROMRebuilder.7z, extract archive and copy ROMRebuilder.xap and Data to SD card.
2. Install CustomWPSystem v0.6 in phone memory .
3. Change year in phone to 2110 and run Extras + info. When you see an error message, tap uninstall button and set actual date.
4. Change installing applications to SD card.
5. Run CustomWPSystem , select Extra e info and tap Download from store.
6. If the application will be installed, go back to CustomWPSystem, tap SD Card permissions and select SD card. Now button should change to green color.
7. Tap Select the XAP , select ROMRebuilder.xap, and tap Apply XAP.
8. When everything will be done successfully, app Extras+info, will be converted to ROM Rebuilder (although the name remains Extras+info).
When you have everything installed and ROM Rebuilder waiting for the commands, you need to do a few other important things .
9. Copy Data.bin to Data folder on SD card.
I posted several files for some phones here.
If you can not find Data.bin suitable for your phone model, you can create it yourself.
1. Run ROM Rebuilder and tap Backup button. OEMSettings.reg file will be copied to Backup folder on SD card.
2. File OEMSettings.reg is compressed using gzip. You can open it using e.g 7-zip. Inside archive is located one file. Click on it with the right mouse button and select edit.
3. At the bottom add whole content from additional_entries.reg and save the changes.
4. Change name OEMSettings.reg to Data.bin and copy this file to Data folder on SD card.
Uhh ... Finally, you can press Rebuild button in ROM Builder. Whole process will take one little moment. After receiving Success message you need make Hard Reset.

Wow, having access to an registry editor potentially on all current Lumias opens open space for developers significantly. This could genuinely help improve advancement of the platform.

General
- This is a guide which describes what is required to have working CIFS shares.
- All information and steps are mandatory
Prerequisites for Installation
- Download SuperSU-2.65 Stable
- Download Patched version of CIFSManager v1.5a
Setting up Prerequisites
1. Disable Privacy Guard (Root Access) in Developer Settings
2. Install SuperSU 2.65 Stable Version
3. Reboot
4. Install the patched version of CIFSManager 1.5a
Setting Up CIFSManager
1. Open CIFSManager and click on the 3 vertical dots in the bottom right hand corner
2. Click Settings
3. Click on Mount point prefix
4. In the dialog box enter the following:

5. Press <OK> on the dialog box
6. Tick the checkbox against the option "Load cifs module"
7. Tick the checkbox against the option "Load via insmod"
8. Click on the "Path to cifs.ko[:<modpath>]* option.
9. In the dialog box change the text to be the following:

/system/lib/modules/cifs.ko:/system/lib/modules/md4.ko:/system/lib/modules/nls_utf8.ko
10. Press <OK> on the dialog box
11. Press the back button to return to the main screen
12. That's the hard bit done.
13. Reboot
Mounting a shared folder
1. In a file manager on your tablet with root access
2. Browse to /data/media/0 and create a folder called "shares"
3. Browse to the newly created shares folder
4. Now create a folder for your new share, I'll use "music" as an example
5. Now go back to CIFSManager and click on the 3 vertical dots in the bottom right hand corner
6. Select the "Add New Share..." option
7. In the Share Path enter <ip address>/<share name>, for example

8. Now click on the "Username" field
9. The "Mount Point" field above should have auto-populated with

/data/media/0/shares/music
10. Enter the "Username" and "Password"
11. In the "Options" field enter the following text:

12. Click the "Save" button, you will then have returned to the main screen
13. Finally click on the share to activate it.

With cifs you can mount any shares exposed to your network by the Windows fileserver you have at home, for example.

I just tried this on my Fire 7 with a fresh install of CM but I cannot play any of my music files. I can use the file manager to copy the file to my internal storage but when I try to play them directly from the dir the music app says "IO Error" and VLC simply says "<filename> cannot be played!". Any suggestions?

using a firetablet 7 inch, nexus rom, fresh install after first section seems to run ok I get stumped at create /data/media/0/shares.
Using file explorer I can't find /data/media/0 ??
Is there an app like foldermount that does this more automagically ?? or maybe a script file that someone could write....RootJunky. ??

Thanks, that does it - it would be nice to have an updated apk that search-inserts these modules on its own though... it's not like typing on the android screen keyboard is l lot of fun :-\ and I only stumbled upon the solution after some searching around.
