Nexus 6 resale value - Nexus 6 General

I have had a lot of cellphone over the years including all the nexus's but this one is the hardest I've ever tried to sell.when I can't even get $300 for a phone that is just getting ready to turning one.:crying:

I'm trying to sell mine too

The resale value of the Nexus 6 virtually plummited overnight. All of us Nexus 6 owners can thank Amazon for that one... lol.

I bought a brand new N6 for $280 off ebay a month ago with warranty till july 2016. Why you are expecting to sell yours for more than $300 used?

I owe $350 on my 64gb

They're offloading inventory for <$300 and the devices are brand new. It's great that you want $300 for it, but that's not what you'll get. Why would anyone buy a used phone that costs more than a new one?

convenience.. Can't get the white one locally.

Lmaooo this is the reason I'll never buy a phone when it first comes out. As long as my current phone is ticking, I'll wait for the "buy every new thing" crowd to have their fun, gives me time to see reviews and reliability of the phone. Came from a galaxy note 3 and only upgraded because amazon decided to chop prices. I probably won't upgrade again till 2017 unless next year looks really good

You can see the market prices for unlocked Nexus 6 phones at swappa.com. Scroll down and look at the closing prices of sold phones. There also is a depreciation curve of prices over time.

This, I'll never understand.
It was all just an illusion

blame competition. if you want resale value, stick with an OS that has only one mfg (aka Apple). There are too many alternatives for someone to want to pay $300 for a one year old used phone with scratches.

Why would someone spend $300 for a used phone when they can get it new for hardly any extra and is unlocked and off contract?
The 6" screen also makes the userbase a lot smaller, not everyone wants a big screen like this.

I feel the pain. I didn't take it as hard, but I did lose a bunch of value. I paid $495 for my brand new 64 GB in June. So my loss was limited to about $200.
I definitely won't be eating that loss just to upgrade to a 6P(although it looks awesome). I'll wear this device out like I do my others and then turn it into a tinkering device.

Bought one for 380€.
Thank to a german handler. Its also new.

Even when I get a new phone, I am pretty sure I will not sell my N6. It may get demoted to "backup device", but not sold. It was a perfectly flawless device (hardware wise) from the start and it has been incredibly reliable for the last year.....not to mention it's just too much fun to play around with.
Still trying to figure out whether I want to get an N6p, MotoX Style/Pure, or an LG V10.

I have only had my Nexus 6 for about 3 weeks so I dodged the massive depreciation. (I paid $350 on Amazon) I almost pre-ordered a 6P but in the end I decided against it. One I didn't want to wait, two I prefer Motorola to Huawei, three all of the SD 810 propaganda, and four because the Nexus 6 / SD 805 is tried and true. I seriously have no regrets or buyers remorse at all, which is rare for me. lol. This is by far my favorite phone and I can not believe what I got for $350! I doubt I will ever sell my Nexus 6. I will use it for a year minimum, probably two. I guess it will depend on what Google has on offer next year. (I am a Nexus lifer) I can't imagine how cheap the Nexus 6 will be this time next year, so I doubt I would ever sell it. It is a beast phone and would make for an excellent backup device or a dedicated chrome cast device.
I do feel for anyone currently trying to sell a Nexus 6 though. It would suck to pay $650 for a phone then not even a year later only be able to sell it for $200-$250. That is one thing Apple definitely has over Android. iPhones tend to have excellent resale value.

If the n6 is worth what is can you image what the n6p will be worth this time next year?

Do you recommend the N4 now?

Hi,
due to the recent price drop I really think about buying one.
My GF needs a new phone and I want to give her one this christmas. But she may get an "old" IPhone 4 from her parents.
So I thought maybe I buy the N4 now and use it myself till then. If she gets the IPhone 4 then I'll just keep it myself.
I wonder if that is a good idea. I'm still on NexusOne to the day and actually would not need a new phone unless it breaks down.
I mean if there will actually be a cheaper IPhone version, that would probably strengthen competition and we might see cheaper Android phones that don't suck.
If Google just sells out its N4 stock I and I'm not buying now I might miss a great chance for a cheap but great phone, right?
Would you buy now in this case?
What are the problems of the N4? I mean besides the unchangeable batterie and non-extendable memory?

Mate, you missed the party Just wait for the N5. Allthough if you want a good phone for a very very low price this is the one to buy.
At $250 for 16gb? Yeah, jump on it. If it comes to it you can always resell it for $150-175 when N5 comes out.
You won't get the thrill if you get it now. Rather wait for the new one.

Thanks, to be clear: this is not for people who want the top notch phone and pay dozens of dollars for it. I opened this thread for people that want to get a good phone at a reasonable price. And due to the recent events might consider the N4 now
If you dont want to wait for a possible nexus 5/2013 nexus 4 then yes I would recommend getting it. This phone is amazing and even more so now with the price cut. You're getting a good phone spec wise off contract for the price of any other on contract priced phone. IMO that's a great deal. I've had mine for about five months now and still love it. One of the best phones I've ever used.
The price cut make it really attractive, even if it is a bit old in today's standard.
Seriously, it is an unbeatable price/performance device at the moment.
Since we don't know exactly when the next Nexus will be announced and we also don't know what will be it's pricing, the Nexus 4 is very tempting. This device is so stable, reliable and Smooth.
The only part that is not very good is the camera, it's ok when you know how to use it properly, but it could be better. But, why would I complain for a device that is sold at 199$ when all others are sold at 500$+
YES !
sent from the state where marijuana is NOT illegal !!
Depends on how much after tax, I would just wait for next one at this point.

Would you still buy the N4 today?

Hi, i'm an Atrix owner, and my dad's phone just died, so i thought that i could buy a new phone for me and give my atrix to him. It will have more than he can use anyway.
So, i'm trying to go with the best for under $300 (unlocked). I suffered the Motorola's lack of updates with my Milestone and this Atrix, so i want a futureproof device (balanced with the price). So my first thought of course is the Nexus. If it gets 5.0 i'll be happy for another year i guess.
But i don't know what's in the market right now, so maybe i'm missing another good device for the price, or maybe the Nexus 4 is not as good as it looks. So that's why i'm asking what the title says.
Would you still buy the Nexus 4?
Thank you.

I gave my old lady my old Atrix and grabbed the Nexus.
Now I'm trying to talk her in to getting one.
The price now @ $249 to performance ratio can't be beat considering you own the phone out right, no contract crap.
Get updates on day 1 release, it will get 5.0
The camera is decent enough I find...after all it's a phone.
If you don't care about the lack of a SD card and a non removable battery. Then it's def worth it
After the Atrix you'd be very happy with it.
I'd get a case for it the as it's an extremely slippery phone though.
If you're on a budget and looking for unlocked and properly priced, then yes, it's perfect. You don't get 4G LTE out of the box, and you only get it with fixes and always changing the settings back. If not having 4G LTE is fine, then yes, it's your best bet. MetroPCS and Boost are selling the SIII for $400 still. You still get a year warranty of course when you buy it from Google.
Only if I didn't already own one. Why?
1. Price/performance ratio is insane
2. Dev support is lively
3. LTE on Tmobile
4. No contract
5. Storage fits my music collection
6. Dat back
so seems buying n4 still worth it if you just want to use it for a decent purpose only, am I right ? I'm not a type of person who loves to rooted or change kernel to phone.
I did 3 days ago and its flying
I got mine the other day. Coming from a GS3, I am more then happy with the N4. Will I get an N5 when it comes up, most likely but depending on the price maybe not as soon as it is released.
My wife picked up a HTC One. Spec wise and quality build that is on the HTC One is top of the line right now but I would not take one over the N4. There is just something special about a Nexus device and it runs fantastic.
Looking at this thread i am going to say a big YES http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/nex...y-google-play-store-1642317?page=104#comments
Yep. Just bought another N4 (to replace a stolen N4) and it has been a good idea
Its the best. No doubt about it. Just go for it. I'd buy it again if I have to. Best performance with such specs at this price. Just brilliant.
I did. Am selling my Xperia Z for profit, and got an Nexus 4 for £159. Much prefer the look, feel and performance over the Sony. Love it.
For some stupid reason, it still costs Rs. 24,990 ($ 379) in india (flipkart.com). Were it not for this silly pricing, i would have bought it a long time back.

I would but just because of the value. For $200-$300 you get a great unlocked phone. It isn't the best phone but it definitely is for the price range. It definitely does have it quirks though. For one I hate the fact that I am limited to 16gb of storage as there is no SD Card slot. Google however has great cloud based apps so you really don't need 64gb. For me, I have 30+ GB of music and its all on the cloud with Google play. Even when your offline you still have access you your music though because the app very conveniently caches songs periodically to keep some stored locally (I have about 2gb local). The screen is not full 1080p which is becoming the norm now and not to forget the phone has horrible color calibration, which can be fixes with a custom kernel. The phones battery life also isn't the greatest... As a pretty heavy user I probably would have to charge it at least once throughout the day. The camera also is pretty crappy and so is the speaker.
Bottom line. The phone is definitely worth every cent but it does have its issue. There are plenty of phones better than it but they're all $600+ phones. So yes even today, I would say to Stoll get it for the value
I definently would,
given there has just been a price drop of 100$ on both versions!
Now there is really no way to beat the price.
Take the 8 gb version for example and look at other models in the same price range.
You see things like the Samsung Young, which really are no match at all for the Nexus 4!
Try and name 1 device for under 400$ that is better, I think you will have a hard time.
And now the Nexus is only half of that!
I just ordered mine last week when the price dropped. I have been using the Galaxy Nexus for the last year and will likely never purchase another non-Nexus device ever again.
For me, it was all about value. As others have mentioned - it is pretty hard to beat the current 199/249 price point that these are available at right now. I had originally planned on holding off until the N5 was released but simply couldn't pass up this deal.
Now just anxiously waiting for it to arrive!
I just did - a few days ago. I was never happier. :cyclops:

Waiting for used N5x to be posted :)

Just thought I'd mention that I currently have the N6, bought brand new few weeks ago for the second time (bought one when first released, then again recently) through Ebay. I think I want the N5x mainly for pure Android and smaller size as the N6 is just too damn big. Let me rephrase: Its FRIGGIN HUGE. So I'm hoping some use dprices go up on this so I can get one without feeling that I'm paying more for a phone that isn't any better than my N6 currently.
XDA isn't the place to buy phones, that would be swappa. But I wouldn't expect anything for a while, the next 2 weeks anyone that doesn't like will simply return for a full refund, after that it'll probably be a couple months before anyone switches from their 5X to something else.

Currently you are not going to see used ones for sale. If people are not happy within the first 2 weeks then can return it. Unless you are willing to pay what they paid you more than likely not going to see one within 2 weeks.

I've gone back three pages and didn't see another thread on this...I'm sure they exist but who wants to dig?
Anyway, I've owned two of these devices and had issues with both. The first one at launch was the plain aluminum, which I sent back because I wasn't happy with the feel. It felt "hollow" for lack of a better word. I don't know how to explain it; coming from the Nexus 6, I expected this solid aluminum beast like the HTC M7 when it came out.
The second one, a couple of months later, was the black, which had the weird pinkish screen hue going on. On top of that, when I bought a couple of different cases, the removal of said cases caused the phone to tweak and bend. But not bend as in bend test videos, rather if you took one hand and grabbed the top, other hand grabbed the bottom, and twisted it (top twist left and bottom twist right). My phone didn't sit flat on a table after that, so I returned it.
I've read around that some of the most recently manufactured units have a fixed screen, so I'm thinking about giving this a third try. I've since moved on to an iPhone 6s+, but still have my Nexus 5, 6 and Galaxy S6 Edge+.

I have a thread created here that is similar, OP.
I want this device as well, but instead of posing a question "Do I ..." I posed the question "Would YOU buy this phone again tomorrow"
The question really isn't whether there are good deals out there for this device, it's whether or not a year into this device people are still happy with it, and on XDA that's a hard thing to get a yes on..
There were some things that have come up with the best buy deal... For instance it's my understanding that if you buy from Best Buy you will only have Huawei's warranty and not Google's... Might make you look elsewhere?
Anyways... Good luck. Ill be picking mine up this week somewhere

I bought a refurb for $316 from BB. Arrived in like new condition. I would think twice about paying $399 for this. The only reason I purchased the 6p because I will be travelling overseas and need a new phone. My 2013 Moto X is aging and very frustrating to use. If you are in no hurry, wait.

Yeah... True...
I have a V10 that is not going away. I really am picking this phone up to satisfy my flashing needs, plus it's a nexus phone!!!
It will probably be something I use as a daily driver at some point... Maybe... I have 2 batteries for my V10, an external charger for the spare, and a 200gb SD card.. I can't see me choosing the 6P over the V10 to keep with me on the go, or with my sim in it ... That may change...
You like the refurb? I thought about buying the refurb... Don't want to get screwed out of the Google warranty...

I bought mine @ Amazon/PrimeDay for $370/64gb plus tax with Prime free same day shipping, so keep checking Amazon website.
I sold mine S7 Edge, then bought HTC 10 which was a disaster (battery life literally was going down 4-5% when idle) and decided to use vanilla android. i see no difference in day to day use/look & feel compared to my previous phones

For me, the most important difference that I like is that Google's phones are updating more frequently (monthly now) than others. Official Nougat is just around the corner for Nexus phones but others have to wait!!!

I just picked mine up from Best Buy today. Love it, I'm going for a marriage license.

Likely going to order. Should I go with BH or Amazon?

I'm probably going to order the unlocked v20 this weekend and was wondering which would be better to order from.
BH charges no sales tax or shipping and they have an open box for $100 cheaper.
Amazon same price but must pay sales tax.
Plus BH has free charger, headphones and tablet too.
Is BH easy to deal with if I have to return this like something was broke on it or is Amazon better?

I think I would go with Amazon, they have a more liberal return system if you have an issue. In other words you'll get an immediate refund once a tracking number is created when you send it back. Just opt for Amazon itself and not a third party Amazon seller if you can.

Either is fine - its splitting hairs I think.
BTW, did you look at the Pixel XL? Why the V20? I'm thinking I shouldve went with the Pixel...The V20 is a good unit, I'm just not 100% happy with it and I'm out of the buyer's remorse window timeframe to trade it out.

If you're going with the Pixel IMO go for the S7 edge.
Now if the 128 GB pixel XL was $710 I would say jump on it because latest android and AMOLED screen. However with no removable storage or always on display I wouldn't pay 869 for it when a year from now you will be bored with it.

Nah man, I have the V20...and I dont really use price as a factor, since I do the installment plan thing. All the top tier phones are 800-ish. Think of it this way - It's something you'll be using EVERY DAY, many times per day...so I don't really use price as a factor in making the choice - I just want to be happy with whatever I get it.

Pixel is a great phone it's not bad. It works great for the features it has like software screen and camera, and has IP54 at least, but for that kind of cash it doesn't have enough features. For cheaper you can get the S7 edge and wait for 7.0 to launch.
I think the V20 is a good large screen phone to last until next Sept or Aug for the Note 8. Rumor has it the headphone jack will be missing from the S8 Edge and SD card possibly which is DUMB and would really do damage to Samsung if they take the SD card away. If they did that people would just go to Pixel instead of giving Samsung a second change since there wouldn't be much of a difference then.
It appears I'll save 66 bucks if I buy from B & H.
What is Amazon's return, exchange policy for Christmas season on phones?
I think BH might be the better one to order from. According to Amazon you only have 10 days to return a defective device for a replacement an no more refunds for phones. That's really rotten.

Yeah BH return policy for purchases is February 1 for purchases made during holiday season: long enough to make a decision on whether the phone is for you!

That policy is not in effect in US. I have returned a few electronics in the past few months as recently as last week. It was a chrome book. Full refund.

You're right after I looked at it more. Either way I'd get my money back but with Amazon you get it back faster and probably less bs.
I've made returns to BH with no bs and refunds only took about 2 days more. But do what is comfortable: I get the best of both worlds with Amazon and BH since I live in CT with free next day delivery with BH.

I think BH might be the better one to order from. According to Amazon you only have 10 days to return a defective device for a replacement an no more refunds for phones. That's really rotten.

That's not correct, perhaps with phones but I can tell you I ordered an Asus 7 inch tablet on Amazon and wasn't thrilled with picture quality. On exactly the 29th day I submitted it for return online, printed the label and walked it down to an official UPS store. they scanned the label and I immediately received a refund alert on the app. No questions asked. This was less than a month ago.

I would never hold off on a purchase or make a "in the meantime" purchase in expectation of a new Samsung offering. They got rid of removable battery and SD card with almost no one expecting it until launch day. And after the Note 7 disaster I will never make a phone with a non-removable battery a first choice. I depend on my phone for work and have very important family business that need to be handled on the phone. I travel several times a month on average and the idea that I would not be allowed to board a plane with my specific model of phone or that I had to go through the hassle of reinstalling all of my software, some of which would be a royalllllll painnnnn in some cases where I must use Ethernet authentication and the equipment is out of state....well no more Samsung/fixed battery phone for me.

I agree. This Note fiasco wouldn't have happened if there was removable battery. They could have simply made a slightly smaller battery and sent them to stores or ship them to us since it's said the compartment for the battery was a bit small.
Would be funny if the iPhone 7 had a massive battery problem and they had to recall them all and it got to the point the device would be killed this year. Apple would have no device to fall back on like Samsung did.

I made this very point when discussing Apple stock. Apple share price relies 50% on a single model of one product. No other company with a valuation that high, as far as I know, is carrying that much risk should that one product have a massive recall. However, in Samsung's case it seems that Samsung decided to do all its quality control in-house for the first time to cut costs. If An outside testing agency had caught this exploding battery in time it would have paid for itself 10xs over. I guess when Apple mark up their phones so high above the actual cost to build they have plenty of our money to spend on their quality control.
