Not able to Flash any kernel - X Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Im facing a weird issue.
Not able to flash any new kernel.
Im rooted, Xposed on stock ROM with TWRP 2.8.7.0 recovery.
Flashing the Kernel through TWRP says success, however when I go to my phone settings I get the kernel number of stock Kernel - attached file shows this
Also notification LED etc not working as in Squid's kernel. How else can I find out whether the kernel is flashed or not?
And if not then why am I not able to flash it?

Post here a copy of "/cache/recovery/last_log" file, of course you're still on stock kernel.

yup faced this issue many times
just use flashify app from play store and see if that works ! (worked for me )

Found the issue, was using the earleir version of TWRP, 2.8.7, not the latest 2.8.7.0_v2. As soon as I flashed that the kernel flashing got fixed.

[Q] MultiRom kernel flashing?

I got Paranoid 3 as my internal rom, running franco kernel. However, gaming and file transfer with computer seem slow and laggy as a 2gigs movie took 15 mins to copy from pc to nexus 7, so I'd like to install stock rom and stock kernel as an alternative I can use when I want to transfer files. The problem is Multiboot only allow separate kernel for external roms as boot.img, and the kexec patched stock kernel (any many other kernels) is only released under .zip flashable. So does anyone have any solution to this? Please tell me
Um, what's the problem with flashing stock kernel over then stock ROM through Install menu in the recovery?

Well, there are too options to flash zip:
- flash zip thru install menu. This affects the internal ROM and Roms that share kernel with internal one
- flash zip thru multi boot -> manage roms -> choose a specific rom . The description already says that 'don't flash kernel with this option' and if I did, the ROM wouldn't boot.
So, way I see it, there's only one option to inject a boot.img that houses a kernel to the eexternal ROM, but the kernels I need are not released as a .img
Bump ? Anyone ?

[Q] Please help mates, I got a problem with a kernel!

Hello everybody, I was wondering if you could help me with this problem.
I got an lg g2 D802, I was on the official kit kat rom with knock code, with Dorimanx kernel 7.1, everything was ok, Im using the right baseband from kit kat, but I changed the rom to Paranoid Android new version, doing a full wipe/ clean install. But the first hours of use I noticed that my phone was overheating, so I started to read bout that, and I realize that Dorimanx kernel wasn't for PA Roms, only for stock based, so I decided to change my kernel, I wasn't sure what kind of kernel I need, so I search a bit and a page says that PA Roms was AOSP based, then I downloaded Furnace Kernel 2.5.1, AOSP version, flashed it and when the phone reboots, it repeatedly say: com. android.phone process has stopped. So technically I wasn't able to do anything. I boot into recovery again and try to flash stock kernel for kit kat, and when the phone tries to boot, an lg logo appears and say: Security error. I reboot into recovery once again and try to re- flash Dorimanx kernel, because it was late night and I wanted to sleep, so I though, just need the phone to boot and tomorrow I will change the kernel to a correct one, but when the phone tries to boot, got stuck in lg logo and the led flashing, since that, I ve been trying to flash so many kernels, included furnace stock version and cm version, with no result, I tried too cloudyfa, auxilium, stock, PAEK and nothing seems to work.
I did my backup when I flashed PA, but cause first hours seemed to be ok , I deleted it for storage reasons, so now i cant restore any backup, and I know doing a full wipe /clean install again will solve this problem, but I don't want to lose all my files and photos and stuff from years ago, and I know that is possible to flash a kernel and boot with this rom because when I flash furnace AOSP the phone turn on and show my lock screen and desktop, but the com.android.phone has stopped problem appears and don't let me do anything.
So, I ask to you: What can I do to flash the right kernel and don't lose my stuff?
Thank you for your answers and sorry for my bad English.
@Delintg2 Why don't you just flash paranoid android again? Flashing the rom changes the kernel as well

You have to flash the sideload zip when that's done. If you still can't boot into your ROM then its back to stock town for you I'm afraid. We've all been there :highfive:

error executing updater binary in zip

hi, i'm running cm 12, twrp 2.7.0.0, and when i wanted to flash cm 12.1 i got the following error:
"error executing updater binary in zip"
i tried:
1. wipe
2. updating to twrp 2.8.7 (and then came back to 2.7.0.0)
3. installing few cm nightlies
well, nothing worked. iv'e read a lot on line, and what i did came from there, the only thing i didnt try is to flash a different bootloader because i couldn't find a straight forward answer what to install (and i'm scared to brick the damn thing)
what should I do?
THANK YOU!!!!!!
Do not use 2.7.0.0, use at least version installed by Autorec v2.
Flash LP bootstack. Nemax bootloader changer or Daniel Stuart's or dgravy's for example. Bumped version except for Resurrection Remix.

First of all, thank you so much!! now, ive looked at the nemax bootloader changer thread and it some posts there says that a KK bootloader is needed. so should i use contrary to the nemax thread?
Nearly all those stacks include the same kk bootloader. They are ZIPs, you can look into them with WinRAR for example and compare CRCs of the aboot.bins. Do you have a D802?
followup question - if i want to go back to cm 12 - can i undo the bootstack flash? if not, what should i do to go back?

Cannot install any custom ROM

Hi,
I've got a SM-T531 tablet and I hate the official ROMs. They're bloated and ugly. I searched around and found 2 custom ROMs which I would love to try out. I have flashed ROMs on my previous devices but never had any issues. Here's what I have done:
First I have flashed CF-Autoroot using Odin and it was successful. I could install apps with root permission, it was all good.
Then I wanted to install a custom ROM. I followed the instructions in this link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/tab-4/development/rom-blisspop-3-1-t3084757
I downloaded the latest TWRP:
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=40746
The ROM:
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=40978
GApps (I downloaded the SOKP-Mini-Gapps.L5.1.1-R-1.0-20150801.zip file):
http://downloads.sonic-developers.com/gapps/
Then used ODIN to flash the TWRP file, it was successful. Next I used the "Home+Volume Up+Power" to go to the recovery mode. After that I cleaned (Factory Reset) and used the "Install ZIP" to flash the ROM and then GApps. All finished without any issues.
But when I reboot I get the following error (same colors):
kernel is not seandroid enforcing
set warranty bit : kernel
Click to collapse
It stops there and never goes to any boot screen. Just freezes.
It's the same with the ROM mentioned in the following link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/tab-4/development/rom-slimrom-5-0-1-alpha-0-7-t2963906
Note: When I flashed the stock firmware, the tablet boots perfectly fine. But when I try to install custom ROMs I get this.
I have never seen this error before. What am I doing wrong?
I would appreciate any kind of help. Thanks in advance.
Believe it or not, "kernel is not seandroid enforcing set warranty bit : kernel" isn't an error, it's just what shows up whenever you boot after flashing a custom rom. It's perfectly normal.
You messed something else up. In order to successfully flash a custom lollipop rom, you have to update to official lollipop first. Go to this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/tab-4/general/links-galaxy-tab-4-official-lollipop-5-t3102844 and download any of the SM-T531 files and flash it through Odin. Then root with this method: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=61421937&postcount=4
Second, use BlissPop, which is current, not the other cyanogenmod you linked to, which is out of date and no longer supported. Just to be safe I'd also recommend trying TK Gapps: http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software/tk-gapps-t3116347
Thanks for the quick reply. Quick and at the same time, very informative. Let me download these, flash them and then get back to you. Hopefully it will solve my problem.
Thanks again. I did what you suggested and everything's working perfectly. Thanks again.

I'm not sure my device is G928F Can you link me to the correct kernel? And I think the TWRP is 2.7.8 or something like that
download twrp here: https://twrp.me/samsung/samsunggalaxys6edgeplus.html
flash over odin
and choose one rom with kernel included, because you must have the correct kernel for the rom you install

Okay so tried a couple roms and they all crash like sometimes at 10 percent sometimes around 50 but they always crash and TWRP restarts. Something to do with the aroma installer roms, tried multiple different TWRP versions and nothing likes the aroma installer roms, any suggestions? Also tried multiple nougat and marshmellow roms and I get drk check failed everytime.
I used to be able to flash SuperSU zip and it would fix drk check failed but it no longer does
Can someone please give me any suggestions at all as I would like to use my phone again

Okay I've narrowed it down to system
When installing any rom it seems to crash when it gets to installing system and then TWRP reboots
I've checked that system is mounted which it is
Also it seems system is at EXT4 file system
Dunno if that's good or bad but either way every rom is crashing when it gets to installing system
Any ideas?

Download stock nougat, and flash it, but make sure csc is selected, and not home_csc, because csc will put phone to real stock settings.
Flash the latest stock firmware for your *correct variant*. Sammobile's downloads are kind of slow, but I've never had issues with any of their firmwares. Install that with Odin and your phone on download mode. I would recommend to use HOME CSC, just to make sure it is completely clean. After you set it up, flash your *correct variant's* TWRP via Odin. To save yourself some time, you can boot straight into TWRP when it finishes installing by pressing home + power + volume up when the screen goes out. From here you can load ROMs from a PC via USB. Good Luck and Happy Flashing!
