sieload or update
Thanks for the tutorial.
Everything worked fine on EU MX4 Ubuntu ed, except for last step of sideloading supersu. Adbd does not recognize device.
I wonder if it is possible to rename supersu.zip to update.zip and then run it as an recovery update instead?

Indeed, you are on latest JB
You have one solution:
You could use this part which come from this guide that I modified a little : [GUIDE]Upgrade your TF300t to Jellybean, recovery, root & remove bloatware[Noobproof] by krabappel2548
== Part 3 - Install recovery and rooting ==
Let's start with installing the recovery
1) Download these 2 files:
- Jellybean recovery with fastboot files: Fastboot files + JB recovery
- Root files => Root files
- You can also download the new CWM Touch recovery if you don't like TWRP: CWM Touch recovery thread or TWRP recovery and download this file : openrecovery-twrp-2.3.1.0-tf300t-JB.blob
2) Extract the recovery with fastboot files zip and open a command prompt in the same folder of the adb and fastboot files (Shift + Right mouse)
3) Reboot into the bootloader of your tablet, type: adb reboot bootloader
4) When your tablet has reached the bootloader navigate with volume down to the usb icon and press volume up to confirm.
5) To flash the recovery type:
- TWRP: fastboot -i 0x0b05 flash recovery twrp.blob
- CWM: fastboot -i 0x0b05 flash recovery CWM-Touch.blob
6) A blue bar will appear and the recovery will be installed, when the blue bar is filled press volume up + power button to reboot into the tablet.
Now we will root the tablet
7) Copy Superuser-3.2-RC3-arm-signed to the internal storage of your tablet. then reboot into the bootloader again.
8) This time you need to select the RCK icon with volume up to enter the recovery image.
9) In recovery flash Superuser-3.2-RC3-arm-signed and reboot into the system
10) Install Supersu from Google Play
11) Open up Supersu, it will ask you to update the binary, choose yes.
12) Now your tablet should be rooted

But if you try, can you write a report please
FYI recommend twrp for your recovery. Seems to do much better for flashing.

Indeed !
If you want to install a custom recovery, you need to unlock your device.
Unlocking was the best decision I made with this tablet. Currently running CleanROM, gonna give CM10 a try now that have they have it working on the JB bootloader.
I can't get it to flash recovery. When I go to the usb symbol it just hangs on "starting fastboot usb download protocol"
Nothing after that just stays right there. Any help would be awesome!
Just a quick step by step tutorial to get a Custom ROM working on your HTC One or if you just want to unlock and root!
This guide is especially for the new users, experienced HTC users should already be familiar with this process.
Step 1: Unlock
Go on http://www.htcdev.com and create yourself an account on HTCDEV.
Download these adb/fastboot files
Make a new folder on your C:/ drive called fastboot for example.
Extract the zip downloaded in step 2 to the new folder
Go Here http://www.htcdev.com/bootloader/ and select "All Other Supported Models" and "then begin unlock bootloader"
Yes, Tick both Boxes, Proceed
Skip up to step 8 as we have all we need for the first 7 steps
Power off your phone by holding the power button down for 10 seconds
Power your phone on by holding power and volume down
Highlight Fastboot With Volume+or- then press Power
Plug your phone into your PC and open a Command Prompt.
(windows XP - Click Start > Run > type CMD in box then press OK
(Windows 7 - Click Start > type CMD in search box then press Enter)
Change directory to your folder where we put fastboot files cd c:\fastboot
Type this into your command prompt window fastboot oem get_identifier_token
Select & copy the text as per step 9 on the HTCDev website
Paste your identifier token into the box at the bottom and submit
You Will Very Shortly Receive an email from HTCDev with a link to the second part of the instructions and your "Unlock_code.bin" attached
Download the "Unlock_code.bin" from the email and save it to the same folder that we extracted fastboot files to in step 2
Type this into your command prompt window fastboot flash unlocktoken Unlock_code.bin
The Display Will change on your phone, press Vol + to accept and power to confirm.
Step 2: Recovery
Download the Android SDK (optional)
Download the recovery of your choice, here a few links:
- CWM
- CWM 2
- TWRP
Place the Recovery file you downloaded where the fastboot.exe is (Either in the location of your downloaded fastboot drivers or in the Android SDK directory)
Now open the cmd and navigate to the folder where the Recovery File is located or just open a cmd with shift and right click at the correct directory
Now type:
fastboot flash recovery name_of_the_recovery.img
For example:
fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-touch-6.0.2.8-m7.img
Now your recovery is installed
Step 3: Root
This step is only needed if you want a stock rooted ROM, if you want a custom ROM, skip this step.
Now root your phone with SuperSU by Chainfire or SuperUser by koush
Download SuperSU from this link or SuperUser from this link
Flash it with the Recovery:
Power off your device and then hold the VOL DOWN + Power to boot into the Bootloader
Navigate with VOL and Power to Recovery
Now flash the .zip:
- install zip from sdcard
- choose zip from sdcard
- select the downloaded SuperSU/SuperUser zip file and flash it
- Reboot now
Now you are able to flash any Custom ROM.
Step 4: Custom ROM
With htcdev unlock you need to flash the boot.img after every ROM installation
Note: Most of the custom ROMs have a script which lets the boot.img flash automatically with the ROM, so probably the steps after flashing the ROM are not needed.
If you are in a bootlop though, I recommend you to perform these steps and flash the boot.img with fastboot
Download the ROM you want to flash
Open the ROM zip with an archive manager and extract the boot.img out of it and place it in your fastboot directory
Copy the ROM to your sdcard
Now boot into bootloader again (explained above) and choose recovery with your volume keys and power button
In recovery wipe data and cache aka fullwipe before flashing your ROM if you are moving to a new base (for example from CyanogenMod to a Sense ROM, don't forget to backup your data files, like apps) (Often ROM chefs leave a note in their thread if a fullwipe is needed or not, just follow their advices)
Now flash your ROM by installing zip from sdcard
If this is finished, reboot and reboot into bootloader again
Connect your phone to your PC in fasboot mode (choose in bootloader with power button)
Open a cmd in your fastboot folder with your boot.img and type these two commands:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot erase cache
Then reboot your phone and wait some minutes to see your ROM booted
Enjoy

Simply go to your adb dir and type that in terminal:

optional:
adb kill-server

The method only applies to P8 and the author says it might not be applicable to Max as the recovery is P8.
However, just for the record
1. Unlock the bootloader

Managed to root my phone.. even when I have updated the EMUI to B018, but there was an issue.. I tell you below
Step I follow from Chinese Forum below...
Preparation step :
1. download the tools from
https://www.mediafire.com/?9drsdo2f6hn4j34
2. Extract the content to your local. Note there are two folders :
- Folder 1 is for the tool that contains the TWRP recovery.img and the adb/fastboot tool,
- Folder 2 is for the original recovery
3. Copy the SuperSU zip to your phone (either in internal or external memory of your phone)
Installation step :
Step 0, unlock your bootloader (search around on how to do it)
1. Since I am using mac, somehow I don't need to install any driver, but if you using windows, install all the driver yourself
2. Enable the developer mode in your phone, and after that enable the usb debugging
3. Turn off your phone, and boot to fastboot (in off mode, connect the phone with your PC then press Volume Up and Power Button together)
4. Since now your phone has been connected to the PC, go to that Tool folder in respective of your OS, then overwrite the recovery with TWRP with fastboot command (install custom recovery) *note : for mac just add "./" in every command
- check the whether its connected : fastboot devices
- install TWRP : fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
5. Restart your phone and boot to recovery
- restart : fastboot reboot
- after reboot, turn off your phone
- reboot to recovery : turn on your phone by holding Volume Down with Power button
- Now you are at TWRP
6. Install SuperSU (root)
- Install SuperSU zip that has already been copied to your phone using TWRP (use the Install mode)
7. Reboot the phone
- Use reboot function in twrp
8. Profit
Theoritically the above things works but I have some issues following the above :
- After step 4, after recovery being flashed with TWRP seems like my phone Boot Partition is being overwritten too
- So when I rebooted the phone, it boot to TWRP instead
- So I tried to re-flashed the recovery with the original EMUI rom recovery (go to the folder "2.P8Max_Official_Recovery(For_restoration)" to find the original recovery.img). Also note that in the this folder, the adb and fastboot is only for mac. The one for windows use it in the tools
- This is done by going to fastboot again, then do command : fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
- This time using the original recovery
- Now when I rebooted the phone, it goes to EMUI recovery, then I just clicked restart to system or something
- After this, everything fixed, and I have SuperSU install and phone rooted
You can follow the above, but do it at your own risk, I am not responsible if your phone brick hehehe..

Yap.. like i said, seems like the boot partition is overwritten with twrp.. so i got sort of twrp bootloop.... but after i reflash the original recovery.img using fastboot... then launch the recovery and click boot to system or sumthin.. everything back to normal...
weird... but i am no expert here... just lucky enough to not brick the phone

Instead of flashing the recovery to the phone you can just boot it one time. Just use fastboot boot recovery.img instead. This will load twrp and not flash it.

Speaker is damn good... but when playing games or watching movie, it is covered by the hand... so it would be better if the speaker is front facing..
otherwise it's good... but I do hate EMUI though... its making the experience sluggish...

The stock recovery when it's launched, it's in English, dun worry I have re-flashed it as I mentioned in the prev post..
Anyway the stock recovery is extracted from the current available ROM for P8 Max, which is in chinese. There is no international ROM available yet for this phone.

Root Huawei P8 Max 5.1.1
hi,
So, what is the real WORKING procedure to root our Huawei P8 Max with android version 5.1.1 ?
Thank you in advance for answering.
**WARNING** You need to have background knowledge of adb, fastboot, twrp, sideload.. before you can go on with this thread.
1. All credits go to @shakalaca. If you like his work, please make him a small donation for encouragement.
2. This is a systemless root. Yet you need to unlook Lollipop before upgrading to Marshmallow.
3. Flashing the attached SuperSU file modifies stock boot.img. In case you receive an OTA file later, do
**REMEMBER to FLASH BACK TO STOCK Android 6.0 BOOT.IMG** to unroot before upgrading to official Android 6.0.
Root:
1. Unlock your device in Lollipop, then upgrade to Android 6.0
2. Once you are in Android 6.0, fire the following command to boot twrp. <twrp.img> is the twrp recovery file. This TWRP is recommended.
HTML:
adb reboot-bootloader
fastboot boot <twrp.img>
3. adb sideload the attached SuperSu file in twrp. /OR install the SuperSU in twrp if you saved it in device storage.
4. reboot system. You will see a warning screen saying "Your device has failed Verification". Ignored it and wait for the reboot.
5. Done
Unroot:
Just flash back stock boot.img
Xposed:
1.Flash the attached Xposed file from twrp.
2.use Material Design Xposed Installer: Download Xposed Installer here
Downgrade to Lollipop:
In case you need to downgrade to Lollipop, follow the instructions with care. Do it at your risk.
Refer to Asus Zentalk Forum and grab the required files from there.
HTML:
fastboot flash token bom-token.bin
fastboot flash ifwi ifwi_ann_a0-mofd_v1-ze551ml.bin
fastboot flash fastboot droidboot.img
fastboot flash splashscreen splashscreen_ze551ml.img
fastboot reboot-bootloader
Now you are back in Lollipop. You can flash back stock recovery(.184 recommended), wipe the device(cache/userdata/system) and then sideload back stock LP or MM as you wish. OR, you can flash custom recovery/boot/system.img start from here.
Good luck!
It worked!Thank you master!I bow now....

Assuming that everyone knows how to use adb and its commands
1: Well first make sure adb and drivers are on your pc.
2: Plug phone in make sure USB debugging is on
3: In adb cmd window type "adb devices" to make sure phone is recognized, if so proceed
4: type "adb reboot recovery" phone should boot into recovery with android robot on screen
5: Then type "fastboot boot <twrp.img>" twrp.img is whatever your file is named
6: phone will boot into recovery, go to adb sideload in recovery
7: type "adb sideload <SU.zip>" or whatever you have it named
8: After it's done loading reboot from recovery, it will reboot twice and the screen will say as per OP
9: After phone optimizes...enjoy root.

Guess your ZF2 is not unlocked in LP first, so that you can't see twrp booting. Since you are in Android 6.0 now, try to downgrade to LP, Unlock it, upgrade to 6.0 and then root.

Hello guys , [ UPDATE ROOT for EMUI 9.1.0.210 .. at bottom ... there are some minor changes]
been reading here and there for a working root but didn't work and my worries to get phone locked / bricked / bootloop
was increasing at any failed test !
THIS method WILL WORK i tested it today and worked ! I'm gonna upload also my magisk recovery_ramdisk PATCHED (read later) so you can skip few steps !
let's start
(steps are copied by Athanatos81 post here in XDA that's basically what i applied with some minor changes )
I. Rooting your device
1. be sure ADB / fasboot are working on your pc(drivers) and smartphone - INSTALL magisk manager Magisk Manager
2. Download the patched file for your device and copy it to Minimal ADB & Fastboot folder.
( you can use my magisk recovery_ramdisk PATCHED it's created by using update.app from update.zip file of EMUI BUILD 9.0.1.175(C432E3R1P5)
that means IF you are on emui 9.0.1 with THAT BUILD NUMBER you can use it ... if you are on a different build DO NOT use it, I take no responsabilities !!!
link to magisk recovery_ramdisk PATCHED magisk recovery_ramdisk PATCHED magisk_patched_9_0_1_175.img
3. Start your smartphone in fastboot mode pressing [Vol-]+[Power] and connect it to your PC. ( you can NOT enter fastboot? read in next section)
4. Open a Powershell and check if your honor 8 pro is listed by writing :
Code:
fastboot devices
you should see something like BYJDU17803000088 fastboot
that means your phone in correctly in fastboot/connected
5. Flash the Recovery_Ramdisk:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery_ramdisk magisk_patched.img
(in this case MY ALREADY MADE magisk recovery_ramdisk patched is named like that IF you choose a different name that CHANGE it also in the command)
when the process is complete (you'll get something like this
OKAY [ 0.184s]
finished. total time: 0.879s)
you need to REBOOT follow these next steps as i describe them or it won't work :
6. from your pc command window write
Code:
fastboot reboot
as soon as phone reboot
- remove usb cable
- PRESS and HOLD DOWN " volume up " VOL+ , keep it pressed until you see HONOR text (blue screen)
doing this will INSTALL MAGISK
7. your phone boot regularly(hopefully) now open Magisk Manager
you will see MAGISK 19.x.x.
and MAGISK 7.3.2
click on INSTALL (magisk 19.3) --- INSTALL ---- DIRECT INSTALL
when it's done it'll ask you to reboot , click reboot
phone is rooted !!!!!
i hope it helps for any references have a look at these pages which helped me :

ROOT EMUI 9.1.0.210
first of all thank you to @OldDroid and @Athanatos81 for support ...
DOWNLOAD my patched magisk: PATCHED Magisk recovery 9.1.0.210
I'll descrive here the process how to update and root from 9.0.1.175 to 9.1.0.210
in my case i was on emui 9.0.1.175 rooted and i couldn't enter recovery or fastboot or simply update through system update !
so before starting it go in system settings -> update and DOWNLOAD your update
when you end your download don't restart and update BUT enter in fastboot:
to enter fastboot i had to restart honor 8 pro (while connected to usb)
and keep pressing VOL DOWN
now in fastboot you'll do following steps
(to install official update YOU FIRST NEED to install stock recovery so in this case 9.0.1.175 stock recovery .. while if you just need root on your actual rom you can just use the patched magisk recovery)
check if your smartphone is seen
fastboot devices
now
fastboot flash recovery_ramdisk magisk_patched_9_1_0_210.img ( in this case is the one i already patched for you )
fastboot reboot
let system start and than use ADB
adb reboot recovery
system will restart now open magisk manager
INSTALL MAGISK( in my case v20.1 )
INSTALL direct
reboot when asked
congratulations your Emui 9.1 is rooted !!!
