[Q] Cant root or install custom ROM

Dear friends
Have just bought a Note 4 (SM910F) and spend a few hours yesterday and failed to install ANY custom ROM on my device.
Status: Currently on Lollipop 5.0.1, not Root
1. Installed TWRP (and tried CWM)
2. Downloaded custom ROM to sdcard
3. Booted into recovery mode.
4. Wipe cache/dalvik
4. Install from zip
5. Result = Boot loop
Recovered the phone by using ODIN and stock firmware (which reverts to stock recovery). I tried about 4 different ROMS (Cm12, x-note, sweet, etc) and all had the same result. Only thing i can think of is ...do I need to root BEFORE I try installing a custom ROM? i dont remember doing this with my Note 3.
Ive been using the Note series for years and have never had this issue installing a custom ROM. Can anyone help? I cant use the Note 4 in its current state!

1. TWRP - Im sure i have the right one.
1. The ROMS are definitely compatible with the device. I checked.
2. Bootloader? hmm does this get installed by the recovery module or something I had to directly install?
Anyway no harm in starting fresh. Il re-download everything and make sure I have it right.

You said currently 5.0.1, did you do an upgrade from Kitkat ? Kitkat and Lollipop has different bootloaders and is the reason for most of troubles with flashing.
Go back to stock en go further on,at first root with Chainfire-Auto root then flash the right TWRP ,i use TWRP 2.8.6.0. Do NOT use 2.8.5.0!!!!!. Iam using Odin 3.09 for flashing.

When you say go back to stock? do you mean recovery or the firmware? the device came with lollipop installed. Thank you though. Il use the TWRP you recommended.

By stock ,i mean the firmware.
So if the device came with Lollipop it should have the Lollipop bootloader. An you must search for root and Twrp for Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop root + Twrp Altough on my S4 they work for both.
Did you buy the phone new or second hand? If on second hand ,did you verrify it was working ok?
And IMPORTANT if you buy second hand ,it could be a clone,what dit you pay if in this case?

Dont think its a clone but to be sure ive checked and its a qualcom snapdragon, however im not sure if the owner before me bought it with lollipop or kk and upgraded it. How can i check if it has the right bootloader? wouldnt installing a ROM update the bootloader too?
Also i have the stock firmware installed.
So the plan is:
1. Update the recovery to TWRP (version you mentioned)
2. Root with CF-autoroot
2. Wipe the system clean, inc dalvik, cache
3. Install custom ROM
Sound good?

Yes, this rom is based on .167 stock firmware and its for UB and LB, just like speaks above.

I would like to add that sometimes after updating all google apps they show a message saying that there's not internet and try again. All you have to do is remove the last line on your hosts file (/etc/hosts). This issue is not always happening but just in case.

i did change but it don't appear in the menu when i try to flash using flashtool, by the way we need root to install, i thought we just need to unlock bootloader, i am new so be nice please

You can't flash this with flashtool. You need to flash in recovery.

This ROM only can flash via recovery. Flashtool use for flash "FTF" files (not "zip") . You don't need unlock bootloader for flash this ROM.

Is there anyone experiencing a poor Wi-Fi problem on this ROM?

I'm currently on 6.0.1 (Z3 - D6653) - 23.5.A.0.575 non-rooted.
Do you recommend I do a clean wipe to install this? Or can I install on top?

You need to root your phone and install custom recovery before you can install this ROM.

This is very good news. Please someone give some reviews about this ROM.

ROM is super smooth only issue is network bar doesn't shown on status bar it shows sim card not detected but everything works(data+calls) no issues with gapps too.that network SIG bar works but of we root our device it stop working and in status bar signal doesn't show.but calls and data works.otherwise no problem ROM is super smooth and stable.

Signal works you have to just go in the apps and open a preinstalled app with signal bar like icon and it will start showing signals

Installation gives an error code 7!

Second full wipe But not wipe the system alone (data, cache and dalvik cache)
Third installs the miui ROM and must be
Finally they install the APK Play services when the system starts

No... In my method internal storage was intact after flashing

Can you expand your notifications or can you reply from status bar??

Won't it be OTA update?

You don't need to flash qpst rom , if you're on twrp just clean flash 3.5 , tried & tested , but as you will flash it from twrp it'll encrypt your twrp partition so your twrp won't work anymore unless you do a normal format from twrp by typing "yes" & it'll erase your internal so always take a backup !

No... For Indian model (Z2132) there will be no more updates

I got "Error 7" message when I tried clean flash. So I clean flashed 3.1 and dirty flashed 3.5 over it

Some users need a bit updater script editing , just remove the line which is written before the processing starts !

That's great..this was the thing i was missing..will flash this after a few days.. waiting for a version where one clean flash would be enough and no more tweaks needed just like other roms

Nope, I don't think so, They always first release it in china and after 1-2 months it is released in india, same happened with nougat they didn't promised about nougat it was on marshmallow but it was first released in china then india, Not even Lenovo told before that they are going to update to nougat.
Moreover, all SD 820 devices are getting oreo it's a powerhouse and this is also SD 820, Then it would be shame if they leave it without oreo like the only 820 device without oreo

This is good official oreo, it's camera looks amazing, the colors, etc, Hope our devs get great help from this rom source in fixing all our beloved oreo roms bugs and making it super stable

HDR+ works for sure (please check screeshot....) How to check whether AGPS works or not? I haven't installed any map application yet...

How is the battery backup?

Sorry HDR+ is not working

It would be useful for Indian users if someone can integrate essential GApps as defaults (Phone, Playstore, Message etc.) Otherwise this ROM is not that comfortable for Z2132 users.
