Issue downloading large apps with Ethernet connection - Nexus Player Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have my NP connected to an Inateck USB 3.0 hub with Ethernet port. It works fine to stream and download apps that aren't large. Today I found that when trying to download Dead Effect 2 which 1GB in size it says Waiting for Network. I rebooted the NP and still had the issue. I tried downloading it from a browser and choosing the NP, but when I checked the NP it had the same message. I disconnected the Ethernet cable and connected back to the WiFi and it downloaded fine. I tried with The Walking Dead game and Asphalt 8 same issue.
Anyone else experience this?

It's an issue caused by the latest Play Store update. Supposedly Google is working on a fix. It affects my Shield Tv too.

Yeah. I only saw it with new play store. I also didn't find an update all option in the new one.

What does it do when you plug it in? Mine is running the new update but no flash and it works perfectly. Just tried it today. You may need to do a factory reset or something.
Also, are you rooted?
Thanks for the reply. when i try to connect the xoom to the tv. The tv just says check signal cable . I have a samsung 8000 and a samsung 58 8000 plasma both didnt work. Says the same thing. check signal cable
I don't think its the OTA or flash because its working for me right now when hooking to my computer monitor.
Fudge with it. HDMI works fine after 3.0.1 update.
Its broken for me too, here's a work around. Have a movie playing on the xoom and then hook up the cable.

Did you put the zoom in USB debug mode? settings/applications/developement check USB debugging
Yes, the icon is in bottom right
I think my xoom may have a problem or two...when using hdmi out watching videos then playing games....it just shut off, twice it did this and both around 5 mins of using hdmi. Now swyping through the screen is really slow...

I will confirm if the HDMI problem is usual, cause I know people have been having problems with that, I will be getting my HDMI cable in the mail soon, will let you know. I have sometimes experienced slow downs on mine as well. Have you tried formatting the Xoom?

The USB port is very weak on my Xoom (and others, I've read). You need to plug the USB cable into a MOTHERBOARD MOUNTED USB port to make it work reliably. Using a front panel USB port, or any other port that is cabled off of the motherboard, can cause problems.
I personnaly mount my xoom into the front panel USB port and have had no problems with it so far.
i too use the USB ports on the front of my tower and it works fine...
My USB cable that came with it was the problem, used a different one and it was transfering fine

Will N4 connect with PTV3000

i know N4 is miracast certified, and pTV3000 is a miracast receiver
does anyone know if someone has actually made this connection happen (demo units etc..)
Thanks!
Miracast receiver -> miracast certified.
Yes, wheels do go on cars.
Android central wrote in N4 review that they didn't get it to work with Netgear Push2TV. I have no idea if it was PTV3000 or some earlier model.
It does not work with the Netgear PTV3000 (Probably because it is only pre-standards compliant).
Netgear is claiming they have an update coming out though to fix it though.

haha too bad your jackass smart reply doesn't hold, since the other 2 members nicely pointed out that yes, it does NOT work
some wheels don't go on some cars, take care
Anyone know of any Miracast receivers that do work with the Nexus 4?
Don't feel like getting buying the $30 Slimport HDMI cable, would rather just put that money towards a Miracast box of some kind.

Thanks for your update. I just get Netgear PTV3000's V2.1.1 firmware update from Netgear Forum. I am not sure whether it can make your Nexus 4 get supported.

I just tried this update, my shipped firmware was 1.0.2 Went fine, but N4 still cannot connect. Phone sees the adapter, but when you tap on it to connect, says "Connecting" and never connects.
Someone know when will be firmware update for PTV3000 to support Miracast?

Try these firmwares.

Progress! 2.1.4 almost connected - ended up with HDCP authentication error. 2.1.5 works. But there is a lot to be desired! There is noticeable lag between what happens on screen and on the TV - maybe around 0.5 seconds and it gets worse if you are more than couple of meters away from the receiver. There are often artifacts showing up, video works but is choppy, audio goes out of sync (audio also plays on the TV).
But good to show pictures and slideshows on TV wireless. But not really HDMI cable replacement. Battery consumption (on phone) is considerable too. Battery shattered down by 20% down in under 10 minutes.

Thanks for posting these. I tried 2.1.5 first, but it had the HDCP authentication error.
2.1.4 works though! However video is constantly choppy and occasionally blocky.
2.1.5 Killed WiDi
2.1.1
Finds the Push2TV adapter, but cannot connect. Nexus 4 can find the Push2TV adapter but cannot connect either.
2.1.4
WiDi fails to connect and HDCP authentication fails for Miracast.
2.1.5
WiDi doesn't connect but Miracast works pretty well. Video and audio is a little choppy though.
For now using stock is best for WiDi and 2.1.5 is the best for Miracast. Anyone else have any news or new firmwares?
Has there been any progress with this?

My Verizon Samsung Galaxy S3 was able to revert my PTV3K's firmware back to version 1.0.13 from version 2.1.5. If you need to revert back to stock, that is an option.
(edit) After it received the Jelly Bean update, it shows this screen upon connecting:
Hitting "OK" will flash the 1.0.13 firmware to the PTV3K.
This is how I get it to work consistently without the HDCP error..
Make sure the monitor is off before plugging in the usb cable to the PTV. So each time you turn off your monitor, you also need to unplug your PTV.
How do I flash the firmware to the ptv3000?

From PTV3000 guide:
9. How can I update my Push2TV?
a. Use your computer and navigate to http://www.netgear.com/stream to check
for and download the latest firmware.
b. Press the Wireless Display Mode / WPS button on the side of the
Push2TV unit for more than 5 seconds.
c. Using the wireless network manager utility on your computer, search for the
Push2TV wireless network name (SSID) and connect.
d. Open a browser on your computer, and you are automatically redirected to
the Push2TV update page. If you are not automatically redirected, type
http://192.168.3.1/ into the browser address bar.
e. Follow the steps on the web page to upload the firmware image you
downloaded in step a and complete the installation.

There is a 2.2.2 firmware floating around for the PTV3000. I can't comment on the Nexus 4 specifically, but it does work with the Galaxy S3 and the AllShare Cast app on it. I have had great performance with it, especially compared to the 2.1.5 that was just absolutely horrible. I would be interested to know what someone with a Nexus 4 and the 2.2.2 experienced as well.
Also, in the 2.2.2 update, it looks as tho the button on the side for switching between WiDi and Miracast isn't used for switching modes anymore and the device is always "listening" for both types of connections. The screen doesn't reference WiDi or Miracast now, just basically says"connect your device".
Thanks

Splashtop

i'm having trouble connecting to my pc using Splashtop Gamepad THD or Splashtop 2 on my Nexus 10. I had no trouble at all connecting using my N7, but that was too small for gaming imho...
I've got my firewall turned off, the app automatically discovers my pc, but when i try to connect it tries for 15-odd seconds, then says connect failed. My pc does connect through a powerline adapter, but like i said, i had no issues connecting using my N7. If i check my network traffic around the time I try to connect I see a signal coming in, so my pc is receiving something... Not sure if it's an N10 related issue or not.
thanks for any and all help you can provide

I don't have a solution to recommend to you but I have used Splashtop 2 with my N10. I was having trouble getting it to connect when the streaming PC was set up to require a password to connect. I'm not sure if that was user fail (typo) or if it's some issue related to what you are experiencing.

Need HDHR user's help

I need someone who uses an HDHD for live TV on the Nexus Player to check if they can still connect to the HDHR or not. I am unable to connect to it on either of my Nexus players or on my Nexus phone, all of which are on Android 6.0.1 with Jan 1st security patch. My Android 5.1.1 tablet and windows PC has no issues so I suspect it's an incompatibility issue with either Android 6.0.1 or the most recent security patch. If it's confirmed I'm going to need to figure out how to roll back to a version that still works...

mine is also working fine. HDHR-Prime. I would just make sure that whatever app youre using for it, and the FW on the box are all up to date, and that the CC is pushed in completely. beyond that most issues ive had have been fixed by unplugging it, waiting, and plugging it back in.
I have HDHR Prime with comcast cable card plugged in and HDHomerun android app installed from google store on the Nexus Player. Video is good, audio is only stereo. But the stream - both video and audio freeze - frequently. I then have to switch over to the another channel, select that channel and then move back to the original channel. Not sure whether my router - running 5Ghz and wireless N - is the culprit and not able to handle the HDHR video streams. All other apps, Netflix, Sling TV etc never have any issues streaming.

it's because it's wireless. I have 3 NPs...2 are hardwired and rarely have issues. one is wifi (5ghz) and even though it's about 15 feet from the router freezes and stutters frequently.
Thank you all. The problem was with the WiFi connection. I still don't know what was wrong exactly, but after I renamed the wifi and connected all devices over the 5ghz band they are all working now. It just seemed odd that I could connect to Lollipop and windows devices but not to marshmallow. But that was just a coincidence.

I came across this same issue, I'm not running my nexus tv over wireless, I've added an OTG usb cable, a powered usb switch, and a usb to 10/100/1000 lan adapter and noticed i was having this problem after I upgraded the firmware on my Linksys Wrt1200ac router from stock to ddwrt, I then remembered part of the setup for the hdhr prime was to make sure your router isn't filtering multicast (will be in your firewall settings). Once i changed that setting and rebooted my router I no longer had the freeze and fail symptoms.

Thanks for your answere. If I go to security/firewall page. I do see "Multicast" is being filtered. But the setting is appearing under WAN. I disabled so that Multicast is not being filtered. No luck. The HDHR view app still shows all channels. Plays very well both audio/video for a period of time - no stuttering or glitch - sometimes few minutes and sometimes more than an hour, without any hitch. But then video freezes - no audio as well. I have to navigate to a different tv channel and select the same channel again. It works then.

I replaced my router - Linksys WRT610NV1 (300Mbps Wireless N) with Trendnet TEW-811DRU AC1200. While there are lot negative reviews for the TEW-811DRU, it has worked very nicely for my needs. No more freezes. The router I believe can get pretty hot. Since it is winter time, it may not matter much. I will wait till summer to see whether there are issue because of that. For the price I paid < $20 it is a great buy even if it works for a very short time.
