[Guide] HTC Dual Sim 802w (China Unicom), apply WWE European RUU, OTA & CWM or TWRP
I have been playing around with China Unicom 802w model for a while, I ordered it on Amazon (via merimobiles) in US. Since I received the handset, have been trying several guides and methods to get rid of Chinese stuff and get english blinkfeed, facebook, twitter, google services etc. Also tried 2 Rom mod's out there - MaximusHD (by llabtoofer now end of life no more updates released the kitkat update with limited support) and Soul Rom (Chinese Unauthorized Kang version based of Viper Rom) , it was always a challenge to keep following Chinese and Russian forums to get the new releases, then flash it etc.
The goal of this guide is to use Stock Rom with default english region content and able to receive official OTA updates without manually checking for it. Note I am assuming that you have some knowledge and experience in rooting android phones, using ADB, fastboot etc, and you have the usb drivers installed, as well as set up your phone to allow USB debugging etc. This guide started for China Unicom Model however, this will be helpful if:
Your MID and CID is combination of the following:
modelid: PN0771000
modelid: PN0772000
cidnum: HTC__001
cidnum: HTC__A07
cidnum: HTC__A48
cidnum: HTC__Y13
cidnum: HTC__J15
cidnum: HTC__032
cidnum: HTCCN703
Now over to the Guide!
WARNING: I see several users are on HBOOT 2.26 and/or are on x.xx.402.x version (Nordic, East Europe, UAE(Arabic Keyboard Support)) are having issue applying the RUU or not able to get the OTA automatically. Please be careful while trying this guide and as always first backup your phone before trying anything.
KitKat WARNING: Please note that KitKat RUU cannot be flashed with old versions of bootloaders (hboot) and cannot be decrypted by ruuveal tool. HTC changed encryption with no backward compatibilty for KitKat update. So in order to flash KitKat RUU you must flash latest KitKat hboot version 2.49 or higher. To downgrade to JellyBean later you will need old hboot from previous versions.
I am including the old and the new HBOOT PN07IMG images if you are already on Kitkat and want to apply european ruu:
1. HBOOT 2.27 + 4.2.2 Stock Recovery.7z - 12.62 MB
2. HBOOT 2.49 + 4.4.2 Stock Recovery.7z - 14.27 MB
How to update:
Download the HBOOT what you need and extract the PN07IMG.zip from
Copy PN07IMG.zip onto External SD Card root folder and reboot to BOOTLOADER
You will be asked if you want to flash it and you can press volume up button to select yes.
You will be flashed with the HBOOT of your choice.
1. The first step is to get S-OFF
1.1 use moonshine for HBOOT 2.23: [Guide] Moonshine S-Off (802w model)
1.2 use rumrunner for HBOOT 2.26/2.27: [Instructions] Rumrunner S-Off
1.3 use firewater for HBOOT 2.49: [Instructions] Firewater S-Off
2. Download the European version RUU - PN07IMG_M7C_DUG_JB_50_S1_HTC_Europe_2.19.401.1_Radio_1237.21.28.0627_release_326125.zip - 989.19 MB
3. Now you need to change the CID to HTC__A07 (you can also use the Super CID, not preferred for new users):
Code:
fastboot oem writecid HTC__A07
4. Lock the device:
Code:
fastboot oem lock
5. Now run the following commands in sequence:
Code:
fastboot erase cache
fastboot oem rebootRUU
fastboot flash zip PN07IMG_M7C_DUG_JB_50_S1_HTC_Europe_2.19.401.1_Rad io_1237.21.28.0627_release_326125.zip
5.1 If you get the error (this happens whenever HBOOT version changes):
HTML:
FAILED (remote: 90 hboot pre-update! please flush image again immediately)
you will need to run "ONLY" the following command again:
Code:
fastboot flash zip PN07IMG_M7C_DUG_JB_50_S1_HTC_Europe_2.19.401.1_Rad io_1237.21.28.0627_release_326125.zip
Once you see "success" run:
Code:
fastboot reboot
6. You are now on WWE European Version RUU and will receive OTA!
Now you don't have to apply any patches for boot animation, blinkfeed, google services, remove bloatware or worry about chinese apps or spyware and best part you have a Factory Locked Stock phone, which just works.
Alternate Method: PN07IMG.zip and flash through HBOOT
Prerequisite:
The Phone must be s-off.
The BOOTLOADER must be locked.
The Ext SD card formatted with FAT32.
The CID must be HTC__001 or HTC__A07 or HTC__A48
Update Steps:
Download and Rename PN07IMG_M7C_DUG_JB_50_S1_HTC_Europe_2.19.401.1_Radio_1237.21.28.0627_release_326125.zip - 989.19 MB to PN07IMG.zip
Copy PN07IMG.zip onto External SD Card root folder and reboot to BOOTLOADER
You will be asked if you want to flash it and you can press volume up button to select yes.
You will be flashed with the european stock RUU.
Manual OTA update:
Download OTA_M7C_DUG_JB_50_S1_HTC_Europe_2.41.401.1-2.19.401.1_release_3398289.zip - 131.61 MB and rename it to ota.zip.
Make sure you have the stock (original) recovery flashed on your device
Make sure you're running a completely unmodified operating system. Additional files like Superuser.apk or su binary are allowed, you just can't have any system files changed or removed (due to the MD5 check)
Make sure you have a reasonable amount of battery charge remaining
Make sure the OTA update you're about to install matches the software version on your device (read HTC Over The Air (OTA) Update facts you need to know for detailed info)
Copy the ota.zip package to your device (internal storage preferred)
Turn OFF the device (make sure fastboot mode is disabled in settings)
Hold your volume down and power keys until the bootloader starts up
Using the volume keys, navigate down to RECOVERY and press power
You are now in stock recovery mode. You should see nothing more than a (sometimes spinning) Android with the red exclamation mark above it (an empty black screen is also possible). Wait for a few seconds
First hold volume up, then (with volume up held down) press power button to enter the main recovery menu.
Navigate down to "apply from phone storage" text and press power to confirm
Navigate to the location where you copied the ota.zip package and press power to confirm
Wait (sometimes you might need to follow further instructions on the screen) until the update process is finished
Once system is booted you should see a confirmation about the successfully flashed update.
KitKat Update: Most users are not able to recieve the kitkat OTA and have to apply it manually, to do that you need to flash the HBOOT 2.49 + 4.4.2 Stock Recovery.7z - 14.27 MB, before you can apply the OTA manually.
Flash CWM or TWRP without unlocking bootloader: PN07IMG.zip and flash through HBOOT
Download any of the following recovery depending on what you like and extract the PN07IMG.zip from
1.1 HTC_802w_CWM_recovery_6.0.3.3_PhilZ_Touch_5.7z - 8.50 MB
1.2 HTC_802w_CWM_recovery_6.0.3.6.7z - 7.46 MB
1.3 HTC_802w_CWM_recovery_6.0.4.7.7z - 8.56 MB
1.4 HTC_802w_CWM_recovery_6.0.4.8.7z - 8.40 MB
1.5 HTC_802w_TWRP_recovery_2.6.0.0.7z - 7.93 MB
1.6 HTC_802w_TWRP_recovery_2.6.3.4.7z - 9.22 MB
1.7 HTC_802w_TWRP_recovery_2.7.0.0.7z - 9.84 MB
Copy PN07IMG.zip onto External SD Card root folder and reboot to BOOTLOADER
You will be asked if you want to flash it and you can press volume up button to select yes.
You will be flashed with the custom recovery of your choice.
Go back to Stock recovery without unlocking bootloader: PN07IMG.zip and flash through HBOOT
Download and extract the PN07IMG.zip from
1.1 HTC_802w_Stock_recovery_2.41.401.1.7z - 12.10 MB
1.2 HTC_802w_Stock_recovery_4.21.401.5.7z - 13.72 MB
Follow same steps as above
You will be flashed with the Stock recovery.

make sure you use CID as HTC_A07, just after the install you will receive 2 tiny updates, install those and reboot. Wait for a while and you will receive the latest major 2.41 update.

If you want tweaks stick with Soul, this guide is for folks who may want just the regular English version and stay on stock. Base version do not matter when using the custom Rom.

if you are using files posted below, its because you already know what you are doing. I'm not responsible if you brick your phone using these files (e.g. flashing ota-firmware over the wrong version). All files posted below, (exception: reset roms, nandroid backups and "No red text" hboot) are official HTC files so don't blame me if something goes wrong when flashing, I'm just the uploader. Reset roms/Nand backup:
These roms/nandroid backups are for users with developer edition M7 (or converted to DevEd) that want to reset their phones back to stock version 6.07.1540.1, 6.07.1540.2 or 7.17.1540.7 and be able to receive future ota updates. Reset Roms are flashed using TWRP with the Aroma Installer and like an official Guru Reset Rom, you have the option to flash stock recovery, stock radio and root from the installer.
These reset roms was made using one of crushalot's famous "guru reset" rom package. All credits goes to him for the awesome work he did for us. All I did here was to repack one of his zip with the dev edition system dump, recovery, radio and preload apps (/data/preload) and re-sign it.
I have personally tested these reset roms on my own device using TWRP Recovery 2.6.3.3. Use TWRP 2.8.4.0 to restore the 7.17.1540.7 nandroid backup. Please use ADB push instead of Sideload for better results (sideload might freeze or report "failed") or drag-n-drop to /sdcard if you still have an OS on your phone or if your recovery support MTP!
Basic instructions for Reset Roms:
Click to collapse
Unlock your bootloader
Flash TWRP recovery 2.6.3.3
Adb push the zip file to your sdcard
Install using TWRP 2.6.3.3
Select stock recovery and radio
Update your firmware so it match the software version (needed for ota support)
Want more detailed (like very very detailed instructions)? Then read FAQ 5) in the post below.

I have personally tested these reset roms on my own device using TWRP Recovery 2.6.3.3. Please use ADB push instead of sideload for better result (sideload might freeze or report "failed") or drag-n-drop to /sdcard if you still have an OS on your phone or if you custom recovery have MPT support!

FAQ
1) Can I flash this reset rom/nandroid with PN071XXXX MID / HTC__XXX CID?
A) Yes but read 2) and 3) below.
2) Will I receive ota update if i'm using HTC__XXX CID?
A) No, you will only receive ota update using BS_US001 CID (also using superCID, thanks to @shinji257 for reporting this)
---> Change CID to BS_US001 (S-OFF needed)
Code:
fastboot oem writecid BS_US001
or to superCID:
Code:
fastboot oem writecid 11111111
3) Can I receive ota update when using PN071XXXX MID?
A) No, only PN0712000 can receive ota updates. If using another MID you'll be able to download the ota update but you'll get the "Variant System Version" error when trying to install it.
---> Change MID to PN0712000 using this tool (S-OFF needed)
---> Or flash OTA update manually from stock recovery (S-OFF needed)
4) After using the 6.07.1540.2 reset rom and selecting "NO" to "install root" I however have SuperSu installed. thanks to @trancemtv for reporting.
A) My bad, I mistakenly built this reset rom using a system dump of a rooted phone. This will not affect ota updates. Fixed in 7.17.1540.7 nandroid backup.
---> Manually delete supersu from /system/app and root files from /system/xbin using TWRP's file manager then re-flash the stock recovery provided in this thread. Or you can use an unroot app like "ota root keeper" to remove root: use "Temp unroot" then "delete SU backup".
5) How can I "adb push" and install a reset roms to my phone:
A)
Originally posted by @alrayHTC ONE M7_U/M7_UL - ADB PUSH & FLASH A ROM - DETAILED INSTRUCTIONS
Prerequisites:
You need ADB and FASTBOOT on your computer,
either by installing the Android SDK or Minimal ADB and FASTBOOT
You need to know how to start a fastboot/adb command prompt:
To open a command window prompt, in Windows go to Start Menu --> ''Run'' then type cmd. Change the directory to the ADB folder on your machine:
If using the default install location for the SDK:
Code:
cd C:\adt-bundle-windows-x86_64-<DATE>\sdk\platform-tools
If using the default install location of Minimal ADB and FASTBOOT:
Code:
cd C:\Program Files (x86)\Minimal ADB and Fastboot
Or hold left shift + right click a blank space inside the folder where adb and fastboot are located and select ''Open command window here'' from the contextual menu.
You need TWRP recovery on your device.
We still recommend to use version 2.6.3.3 for all roms
except if another version is specified in the rom OP.
Use 2.7.1.1+ for roms that require "block:by-name" support (CM11)
Unlock bootloader if not already unlocked:
Thanks to Electroz for the video tutorial
Flash TWRP Recovery:
Make sure the recovery.img file is in the same folder where adb and fastboot are located
(C:\adt-bundle-windows-x86_64-<DATE>\sdk\platform-tools or C:\Program Files (x86)\Minimal ADB and Fastboot)
reboot phone in bootloader mode
Flash the recovery:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery name_of_recovery.img
fastboot erase cache
fastboot reboot-bootloader
You need your HTC drivers correctly installed on your PC:
If not, follow this guide (thanks to nkk71):
originally from @nkk71: [GUIDE] [02-MAR-2014] nkk71's SuperGUIDE to returning 100% back to stock
follow the below instructions to fix
Open "Device Manager" -> select the unknown "One" -> right-click -> "Update Driver Software ..." -> "Browse my computer" -> "Let me pick" -> "Android USB Devices" -> select "My HTC ..." -> install that
just in case, HTC Drivers can be found here: [Drivers] HTC Drivers for Windows - Several Versions (credits to @mdmower)
though you should already have them since you have been using your phone anyways
for those who like a visual guide:
okay so I did a fastboot boot command, and as you can see it didnt install correct driver
Open "Device Manager"
there's the culprit
right click and Update Driver Software
select Browse my computer for driver software
select Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer
select Android USB Devices
select My HTC ... (if you have more than one version, choose the latest)
warning, select Yes
successful installation
now it looks better
and can confirm:
Code:
C:\ADB3>[B]adb devices[/B]

Make sure the ROM you want to flash is in the same folder where ADB and FASTBOOT are.
(C:\adt-bundle-windows-x86_64-<DATE>\sdk\platform-tools or C:\Program Files (x86)\Minimal ADB and Fastboot)
Here is a list of the HTC M7 roms. Some other roms can be found here.
Connect your phone to computer using usb cable
(if not using the official HTC USB calble, make sure
you are using a USB data cable and not only a charging
cable. Data cables have 4 contacts: 5V, GND, DATA+, DATA-.
Charging cable only have 5V and GND contact and will not work)
Reboot phone in recovery mode (TWRP):
If phone is booted in OS:
Code:
adb reboot recovery
if not booted or bootlooping, hold power button + volume down until phone boot in bootloader mode
then select BOOTLOADER then RECOVERY using volume up/down to navigate and power button to select.
Make sure your phone is booted in TWRP main menu:
transfer the rom to your /sdcard folder:
Code:
adb push name_of_rom.zip /sdcard/
Wait for the zip file to transfer, this can take several minutes (5-15) and there is no progress bar, the command prompt will be unresponsive for that duration. When the command prompt is responsive again and display how much bytes transferred in X seconds, the transfer is completed:
In TWRP main menu, select ''INSTALL''
Browse the installation menu and select your rom zip file inside /sdcard folder:
Swipe to confirm you want to flash the rom
Reboot phone

5) How can I push and restore a nandroid backup to my phone?
B) Boot in twrp and make a backup of boot.img only (this is only to generate a backup path). Then using twrp's files manager navigate to /sdcard/TWRP/BACKUPS/your_serial_number/date_of_backup and delete backup files in this folder and replace them by the files contained in the nandroid backup you want to use. Then select "restore" and restore the backup.
6) How can I flash recovery?
A)
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot erase cache
fastboot reboot-bootloader
7) How can I flash firmware?
A) If you are asking this question, you shouldn't mess with firmware! But however:
Code:
fastboot oem rebootRUU
fastboot flash zip firmware.zip
fastboot flash zip firmware.zip
fastboot reboot-bootloader
8) Can I use the 7.17.1540.7 firmware posted here to update my frimware from x.xx.xxx.x version?
A) Strongly not recommended (might brick your phone in QHSUSB-DLOAD mode). The 7.17.1540.7 firmware posted in this thread is a firmware patch to be flashed over the 6.07.1540.2 firmware version. If you want to update to 7.17.1540.7 firmware then flash the 6.07.1540.2 (full) firmware and then the 7.17.1540.7 ota-firmware.
9) I have another question/comment
A) If its related to files posted here, how to use them or to request other files, go ahead and post your questions. Otherwise the HTC One Q&A sub-forum is the place to post your questions, start a thread there and we will help you. Stay on topic, will not answer questions like "How to s-off, how to unlock, how to root, how to install drivers, issues with adb/fastboot" here.

Yes, it should but you should S-OFF first to get an update. Otherwise you will be stuck in a weird mode.

Hi I am new here.
With you guides and all I have successfully rooted and unlocked the bootloader of my phone.
I saw some people had problems unlocking bootloader on 1.17 firmware, so I unlock bootloader while I was on 1.16 firmware.
After that I flashed twrp recovery and I recovery I got option to root so I even rooted my phone.
Now I want to do firmware update to 1.17.1234 and then 1.17.1531 and then android M.
Can someone tell me how to do this ?
I read that this canot be done through twrp recovery. Also I am not receiving ota due to unlocking phone.
so please provide me links to ota package to, I'm asking for ota package which is small than firmware package available on asus site.
If other ways to update tell me please
@fey34515 Note that you need to flash stock recovery to achive what you want

1. Download ZE550KL's Stock_boot_recovery.zip
This zip contains stock signed recovery.img and boot.img. Extract it and copy both .img files to the folder where you have adb and fastboot files.
Download correct firmware for your ZE550KL of the correct SKU. You can find your SKU on your phone's box.
WW SKU : Download ZE550KL's firmware v1.17.40.1531 for WW SKU only
Let me know if your phone's SKU is not WW
Copy the firmware zip (UL-Z00L-WW-1.17.40.1531-user.zip) to your external sd card.
2. Connect your phone to computer and Reboot phone to fastboot mode.
3. Now run the following commands
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot oem reboot-recovery
3. Third command should reboot your phone to recovery mode.
Now, in recovery mode-
A) select "wipe cache partition" then select yes
B) select "apply update from sdcard" then select "UL-Z00L-WW-1.17.40.1531-user.zip" and finally select "yes"

This is the safest way to upgrade to MM. This is exactly how I upgraded to MM yesterday. You will lose root once you flash 1.17.40.1531. But you can reroot by flashing twrp and supersu again
one we unlock the boot loader is it possible to re lock it
Help me

Reboot to fastboot mode then execute
Code:
fastboot erase system
Then flash 1.17.40.1531 zip from recovery. "Verifying update package" message will last for 2-5 mins.
Once you have flashed .1531 update you should reboot to system finish setup then flash MM ota. MM ota will be stuck at "patching system" for 15-25 mins. That is normal
Im almost on the same boat, so OP any update if you were able to fix your phone using the instructions on this thread?
I have bricked my M3, and was successfully revive it using IDT board software. And now i stuck at the old ROM
I was trying to upgrade using SD Card method with many dload file but no one success

As I mention before , i was sucessfully flashing board software which bring me to basic firmware.
I try to update using USB OTG and SD Card but I got no luck.
Then I use fastboot to flash this firmware [HUAWEI MEDIAPAD M3 8 FIRMWARE (BTV-DL09 ,C100B009, EMUI4.1+ANDROID 6.0) [ANDROIDHOST.RU].RAR]
Extracting UPDATE.APP and take out boot, recovery, cust, and system then using fastboot to force flash
* Reboot into fastboot by pressing vol down button (phone off) while connect USB
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot flash cust cust.img
fastboot flash system system.img
This method bring me to EMUI 4.1 on Android 6.0 as mention above

+ copy file UPDATE.APP of EMUI 5 to dload folder than update via USB OTG. I use this file [BTV-DL09C683B352CUSTC683D001 FIRMWARE ANDROID 7.0 EMUI 5.0 05014EAR.ZIP]. But I got messaege "No update file found"
+ Exctract boot, recovery, and system from update.zip and cust.img from update_data_full_hw_eu.zip then flashing using fastboot . But it end with bootloop
+ Flashing update.zip via TWRP. It was success but failed to grab EMUI info or firmware version. It show NRD90M test-keys on it. TWRP red log
Failed to mount ........ (forgot what was failed, only remember there were 2 invalid argument) (invalid argument)
Please anyone give me a clue to update my M3 to newer version.
Target : move into M3-BTV-DL09C100B307 or M3-BTV-DL09C100B311
PS: I have M3-BTV-DL09C100B307 file (update and update_data_full_hw_eu)
I also have M3-BTV-DL09C100B311 file (update.zip, update_data_full_public.zip and update_full_BTV-DL09_hw_eu.zip)
Thank you
Update.app should match your device in order to be able to flash it via dload method. As I can see your device it's not properly updated to EMUI 4.x Android 6
