[GUIDE] XT1030 w/ Unlocked Bootloader and Root for $185 - Droid Ultra General

If this helps anyone, great. If not, sorry, I tried. I intentionally left some of the details out to keep it short, but I can expand items upon request.
I just bought my third Droid Mini (XT1030); I fell into a river with the first one, and the second one had a nasty failure with the headset detection circuit. I love this phone and can't find one that compares.
I'm by no means a power user, but I cannot live with a phone without root (and an unlocked bootloader is huge). I struggled to find the necessary information to take me back to the same state I was in with my previous phones and felt like a simplified, updated thread would help. The biggest problems I had was with dead links, scattered information, and more [confusing] information than necessary.
Disclaimer: The guide below will take you to KitKat 4.4. I realize you can go to 4.4.4 with no problems once you'll have an unlocked bootloader, but I had no interest. Also, most of this guide applies to the XT1060 and XT1080 (the filename in step 4 will be different, and I'd imagine they'll cost you a bit more).
1) Buy new phone with original Android 4.2.2 for $160 (http://www.amazon.com/Motorola-Veri...p/B00HE5FBPS/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top?ie=UTF8)
- Note: If the phone has been updated to 4.4.4, I think you're hosed!
2) Power up phone
3) Download Sunshine to automatically unlock bootloader (costs $25; http://theroot.ninja/apks/SunShine-latest.apk)
4) Download KitKat 4.4 (google the filename: CFC-fastboot-obakem_verizon-user-4.4-SU2-3-15-release-keys.xml.zip)
5) Install Motorola drivers for PC (https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/answers/prod_detail/a_id/95592/p/30,6720,8881)
6) Install RSD Lite 6.1.5 (http://rsdlite.com/RSDLite6.1.5.msi)
7) Plug your phone into your computer
8) Flash KitKat 4.4 (I felt no need to go newer)
- Power down the phone
- Boot into fastboot by holding the Power button and Volume Down for 10 seconds, then release the power button
- Flash the file using RSD Lite
9) Install Android SDK Tools for fastboot command line utility (http://dl.google.com/android/installer_r24.4.1-windows.exe)
10) Download TWRP (google the filename: twrp-2.6.3.1-ghost-4.4.img)
11) Flash TWRP
- Boot into fastboot
- Open a command prompt window
- Enter the command "fastboot.exe flash recovery twrp-2.6.3.1-ghost-4.4.img" (fastboot should be in "C:\Users\<Username>\AppData\Local\Android\sdk\platform-tools")
12) Run TWRP to get root
- Boot into fastboot, then select recovery (TWRP will load)
- Exit TWRP and it will ask if you want root (say yes!)
13) Follow Topsnake's perfect instructions to get native WiFi tethering (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2578410)
14) Disable OTA's (Over The Air updates, since these will fail unless you revert the native tethering changes)
- Launch Jrummy's Root Explorer
- Navigate to "system/priv-app/" and rename "3c-ota.apk" to "3c-ota-apk.bak"
Optional: Download Titanium Backup. This tool is great to restore games (like my Candy Crush boosters and DH 2016 progress). My old phone was alive enough to make backups, copy to the new phone, and restore.

Or you could buy one of the 3 unlocked ones I have for sale on swappa. 2 maxx's and 1 ultra

Heh, I got my second phone that way, also on Swappa, but I gave up on a Droid Mini the 3rd time around after about a week of searching for one with no luck. But you're right, if you have this option, it'll save you quite a bit of time and might be worth it. I'm hoping this one lasts me another couple years until a better option comes around, so I'm pretty happy I got a brand new phone. I have no interest in a newer model unless someone comes out with a phone that is rootable and less than or equal to 4.8" in length (otherwise it won't fit in my breast pocket of the Wrangler snap shirts I wear, which is a big deal for me).

I could get the Mini for 8 dollars plus tax with promo code UPGRADE, however, the SUNSHINE app requires $25 that it is too expensive for a 3-yr old phone.

I hate to get rid of my Mini (best phone ever when it comes to size and features) but it will be going on Swappa soon, sunshine unlocked bootloader.

[Q] PLEASE help me! Droid X wont boot into recovery

Hello, im SO desperate...
I rooted my Droid X a while ago, and just decided to flash a custom ROM yesterday.
I tried ApeX; worked great. Buy it reminded me of my rooted CM'd G1, so i wanted something else. I decided to try a bunch of ROMs so i could make an educated desition.
Needless to say Bootstrapper worked great.
I tried Fission, then, DarkSlide; GummyJar, Liberty 1.5 & finally, Tranquility.
I must say, the latter one is a bit too buggy for me.. For one thing, lock screen.. doesnt shoe the lock button, so you kinda just have to trust it'll unlock when you swipe your finger, and in most cases, it does... But it aint what i was looking for.
Ive decided i liked Liberty, for its easy to use GUI for customization.
Heres where the problem starts...
My device will boot into Tranquility just fine, but if i try to run recovery thru bootstrapper... uh-uh. Nothing happens, I guet stuck in the Tranquility boot screen (tranquility replaced the default M screen, as well as the animation boot, just like liberty)....
I tried using clockworkmod rom manager and i got the EXACT same results.
I tried formatting my sd card; nuttin... i read somewhere, someone said that "charging the battery to a full 100% worked for him"... it doesnt make any sense, but ive tried it.
I dont know what to do... i mean, my phone works fine, but i dont wanna get stuck with TRANQUILITY!
ive also tried unrooting and rerooting... uninstalling and reinstalling both bootstrapper and clockwork...
If i shut down and boot with the home+power pressed buttons, the phone WILL enter its recovery mode, ive already tried a "factory reset", and all i get is... THE SAME THING! Itll reset my Tranquility as if it were the first time i flashed it.
How can i flash another rom?
I read something about an SPL, but ive no idea what that is nor what to do with it.
Id appreciate your help...
Paul Suquet
First of all it is an SBF, and will get to that in a second, first try booting while holding just the volume down button with the power button. If that does not work, you may want to SBF. This is a process that erases all the data and system files and takes you back to how the phone was when it came out of the box, or 100% stock. After doing this you could root again and then install liberty. If you want a guide on how to SBF, then just Google it. There are many guides available
There is a thread here called getting into clockwork mod the hard way. You could try it before doing an sbf.

try turning ur phone off, plug it into ur charger let it do the charging animation and then turn it on, it should boot into recovery
Ok people, [SOLVED]
Good news people, i successfully recovered via Verizon's SPL.
Allow me to recap; i own a Mexican Droid X, known as Motoroi X. I rooted via one click root, and installed Fission ROM. Then i wanted to try ApeX, after that, i tried GummyJar, then Liberty, then DarkSlide, and finally Tranquility. I don't know if i did something wrong, of if this is a problem Tranquility has, but after Tranquility, bootstrapper woudn't boot to recovery... so, i wasnt able to switch roms. Tranquility booted just fine, but if i tried to boot to recovery (be it via Bootstrapper, or via ClockworkROM), i got stuck in the "tranquiliy boot screen" (not even making it into boot animation), so , i had to take the battery off, and boot regularly... Trouble is, I didnt lile Tranquilty (all my respect for all dva's but, Liberty 1.5 was my choice, and it is at the moment). I liked the easy customization it has. One of my friends decided on ApeX (he liked the idea of having a bit of Blur).
SO, what troubled me was:
(1) My phone aint from verizon. I live in Mexico City, and my carrier is called IUSACELL... my phone actually had a totally different version on it when i first got it. Ill give out the version it had from factory, to trigger search results towards this page; hence help the multiple people in mexico city who bought their Droid X device via this carrier... my Sistem Version was:
Version.3.0.15.MB810.Iusacell.en.MX
Ive attached a screenshot of what my "About Phone" looked like from stock.
Cant attach anything, due to being quite new to the forum, sorry about that.
So anyway, I, and one of my best friends (with the same phone and carrier... allow me to say, that in mexico, this phone is not commercially known as a DROID X, its called Motoroi X, buy as you can see by the version MB810, it is the exact same hardware you verizon users know).
Let me say that, my phone was able to keep all my carrier config (that is, PRL, VPNs and such). So, to all other Iusacell Motoroi X users; ROOT YOUR PHONE; AND RUN ANY ROM YOU LIKE!
(2) I heard so much about SPL, but no one could tell me what the heck that was... SO here it is, plain english; its just like doing a firmware update; or, like updating your bios... Let me call it "hardware formatting"... Just a way to get your phone TOTALLY back to stock... Now, this SPL i found, was for Verizons stock, (which had a lot more crap than Iusacell did...), but hell, it saved my @$$. Youll need an Ubuntu Live CD (i use Ubuntu as my daily OS, so... no need to do that), the SPL per se, your phone, and a micro usb cable (no, not a mini USB, we all know motorola did a trick on us and used this micro USB instead of the common mini usb... i suppose they saved some space).
Here are the complete instructions: (remember this will flash your phone, so, be sure to backup at least all the contents of your SD, and; even if there is a slight chance, remember that any of this thing COULD potentially brick your phone, i'm willing to help all i can; anyone out there, but dont hold me responsible, this worked GREAT for me, and it MIGHT not work for you).
Please note that most of these instructions are not authored by myself, i just made a few adjustments to thm and i wanted to make them publicly available to those out there who are in the same ordeal i was:
1: Download the Ubuntu image. It's an .iso file - this means it can be burned onto a cd/dvd. Do so.
2: Once the burn is complete, reboot your computer, set your bios to boot from cd/dvd if you have to.
3: Ubuntu's Menu will appear, select "Try" to boot into the OS without altering your current setup.
4: Download the .sbf_flash utility and the proper .sbf file (note that a file that starts with a period, means to linux, that it is a hidden file. The sbf_flash I got, dont remember where i got it from but it weighs exactly 24KBs. And the .sbf file i found is called "VRZ_MB810=_2.3.34_1FF_01.sbf" weighting 445,393KBs. Dont you dare change the name of these; as Linux doesn't recognise spaces as a character, so, if you changed all the underscores to spaces, Linux' console would not be able to "see" it. If you can't find it, post a reply in this forum, ill see the way of getting it to you.
5: Flash the image onto your phone:
Turn on hard recovery mode; turn phone off; press (and keep pressing): CAMERA + VOLUME DOWN + POWER. Until it comes on. You may have to release all three, and press again power (usually the screen is "blocked").
Now youre in hard recovery mode, and the phone will recognize the computer via USB; so... CONNECT YOUR PHONE VIA USB, duh!
Place the .sbf file to a directory (e.g. Documents)
Place the sbf_flash file into the same directory
Open up a terminal window
Change to the directory that the files are in. [cd] is the command you use; so if in Documents, type [cd Documents].
Ubuntu is caps sensitive, so you need to type the capital "D". If you type "ls" (the equivalent of typing "dir" on Windows Command, or DOS) it lists all the files in the current directory you're in, so type [ls], if you see the files, you're golden.
Type [chmod +x sbf_flash] (ignore brackets) – this command makes sbf_flash an executable. If you've been rooting your phone with ADB Tools you've seen this command before.
Type [sudo ./sbf_flash [name of sbf file, starts with 'VRZ_']] (once again ignore the brackets) – this command runs the sbf_flash file. 'sudo' is the linux-y way of 'running as administrator' in Windows.
It will prompt you for your password - enter it (if your in a Live CD; password is most likely "admin", with no quotes)
Your Ubuntu machine will hard format your phone. Youre probably used to seeing your phone itself perform the installation of a ROM, this is similar. But it aint your phone directly doing it; its Ubuntu... Glorious, faithful ubuntu.
Your phone will reboot, and youll be in a Verizon Stock Rom. You WONT be in the version i described before (but that version was lost since your first Rom...) Iusacell Mexico will work flawlessly... youll still have your telephone line working, and your data plan (if applies). All you have to do now, is run bootstrapper again (this time itll work), your phone is most likely still rooted. If its not, run one click root again; and run your favorite Rom.
Ive tried all roms and decided to keep Liberty 1.5, only downside ive found is; a) camera works, but stock software seems a bit buggy, and b) NO HDMI port. My friend kept ApeX, there IS an HDMI port on ApeX, but as far as I know, youll need to install Stock (Blurry) gallery.
It is a shame HDMI can only be used for picture and video taken from the phone, viewing... I trust sooner or later, there'll be a rom (or a paid app...) able to exploit the HDMI capabilities of the Droid X.
Forum admin: is it ok to publicly plug my twitter account for spanish speaking X users to follow me if they wish to? (Sorry for asking, violated one forums code before, dont want to do it again)

[Q] Rooting Razr M problems. Followed every post on XDA & HowardForums.

Hi all,
With yrs of experience with software, hardware, and up to high-voltage instrumentation electronics I am STUMPED!
I have been trying to root/unlock/flash the antenna on a razr m so I can use global pre-paid carriers IN THE US.
I was able to acheive this on my HTC Rezound in under 30 mins using XDA. (Given this just had to be programmed).
The strange situation I am dealing with here ---------------------------------------
Droid Razr M - Goal is to run on Net10, just traded off my HTC Rezound.
Problem = I ran every rooting program available to me, they all are having problems seeing the device. However, USB debugging and "Allow access" are activated. Reinstalled new Motorola drivers.
Radiocomm === I have the program set up correctly, found XDA post on this, it gave the same directions as some youtube videos and howardforums. It simply wont recognize the device (if I could acheive this I would be done). I then troubleshooted that problem, installing more drivers,
Ended up manually trying to root the phone. Still a no-go! (YES I am using a motorola usb cable on a high speed port rear of PC)
Still all fails.
Next step was reinstalling motorola drivers 2.3.9 for windows 7 64bit again (after removing them via control panel)
Then went with using ADB drivers, also found some people had success using PDA net. Installed it after removing others, then tried running pda net with motorola drivers installed. Still a no-go, device not recognized.
(When loading radiocomm I get the message "this installation is intended for 32-bit OS versions only. Please use the 64-bit version on this machine.)
- Same message for 11.11.11 and 11.12.2
Next it tells me "The installer was interrupted before Motorola Datacard drivers 1.5.9 could be installed. You need to restart the installer and try again. (Reinstalled drivers 4-5 times) restarted.... reinstalled radiocomm etc....
While troubleshooting your radiocomm guide, I found Motochopper (also doesnt see device, and says already exists (reset phone to stock with adb). Then attemptted EPRJ_EasyRootICS_MultiOS_V1.5, which fails three phone restarts then closes. It my phone has been successfully rooted. Also wrong!
There has to be some sort of issues between PC USB drivers and the drivers on the phone. Maybe hardware?
My PC Specs
4gb ram ddr3 1600mhz
AMD x4 B50 (550BE x2 unlocked) OC to 3.8
ASUS P8N SLI mobo
1tb Hard drive.
ATI Raedon 2gb gddr5 graphics
I think these posts I along with others are following trying to hot rod the razr m are simply outdated. A new one where all of the knowledge learned needs to be put into one thread.
someone suggested everyone on the forum needs to take a test first? I think thats a great idea, wouldnt have people compiling other's work into a "one click flash" that does nothing but type some code for you, asking for donations. And no support, incorrect drivers links, advertising in posts everywhere! BLAH
If you took the latest update the rooting utilitys won't work they patched the root methods in these utilitys

Post your phone info please.
Phone Info
Razr M xt906.
system version 98.18.78.xt907.verzion.en.us
Android version 4.1.2.
build date Fri May 24 2013.
(PS ordered an unlock code yesterday. They automatically gave me a refund.
I had traded for this phone last week. Assuming the update from verizon was completed. I have been reading into this, however when doing my research I took this into consideration. So many mixed issues/ideas for how to "re-root" but due to this device not being very old, and the gentleman I traded for this phone is on contract through verizon, he had no idea what rooting was.
Making assumptions makes an ass, well I assumed being a global phone like my HTC Rezound, verizon prepaid told me they could set up the antenna in-store to work for net10. I guess I've made an ass of myself havent I?
Anywho, 60hour work week starting tonight, hope I get this working! (15hr days)
That is the unrootable, un-unlockable new UD.
hmm
It successfully rooted, then reverted like I read it would. I have rootkeeper installed.
nobody has had any success taking off the update verizon sent out that made it impossible to root?
Just today, I got stuck in sideload, whiped the cache, and did factory restore reset all.
Wondering if I could take it back to a previous version, then root/unlock, then upgrade ics outside verizon (custom)?

Do this:
with the phone on press all 3 keys at once and hold till the screen goes black ( about 5 sec.).
then let off the pwr key. you should be in the bootloader menu. Be quick cause there is a short timeout and it will reboot. Toggle the vol- to highlight fastboot and press vol+ what does it say? 3 means UL bootloader.

Droid Mini XT1030 4.2.2 12.7.7 & 12.15.15 Confirmed Root

As the Ultra section seems to also include the Droid Mini, I thought it best to post here.
ALL CREDIT FOR THE EXPLOIT GOES TO JCASE, AND TO NWKENT FOR HIS SIMPLIFIED BUNDLE.
I TAKE NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOUR PHONE OR ANY DAMAGE INCURRED FROM APPLYING THIS. READ ALL DIRECTIONS UNTIL YOU FULLY UNDERSTAND THE PROCESS
With the assistance of JCase's root method for the Ultra/Maxx/Mini (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2442585) and the combined bundle for the Droid Mini XT1030 by NWKENT (http://waynekent.com/page18.html), I can confirm that my Mini is cleanly rooted on first 4.2.2 12.7.7 and then 4.2.2 12.15.15.
A couple notes:
1) I received my phone (XT1030) on Feb 12, 2014 with 4.2.2 12.7.7 through VZW corp sale
2) Running Windows 7
3) Developer Option was available on 12.7.7 but I needed to enable it on 12.15.15 (instructions included in NWKENTS package)
4) Each time Telnet is used, it creates a dialog on the phone stating "Google may regularly check installed apps for potentially harmful behavior. Learn more in google settings > Verify apps" which needs to be declined twice for each Telnet connect.
5) I wanted to end up on 12.15.15 but by being new to androids, I did not realize I needed to flash to 12.15.15 first from 12.7.7 before running root. It worked out well as I discovered that 12.7.7 took the process seamlessly but I was unsure how to get to 12.15.15. I connected to RSD so I could flash with the included 12.15.15 but I don't believe all the drivers were loaded for RSD. I made the mistake of trying the OTA update to 12.15.15 and it created a boot loop - it would load up to the main screen and after a few moments, shut down and reboot. I then tried Recovery but upon volume up (per included directions) it would only boot loop. I then opened RSD while at the recovery screen, the remaining RSD driver was installed and I saw my phone in fastboot. From here I was able to flash using the included Mini 12.15.15 FXZ and gain a stock 12.15.15. From here I repeated the root procedure without issue. Bottom line: Make sure you are on the version you want before rooting, and follow all instruction included in the bundle (backing up pics, etc as the FXZ will wipe all info).
6) For those new like myself, NEVER allow an OTA update on your device once rooted - it will cause problems. I chose Titanium Backup which in the purchased version ($5.99) you can freeze apps (like OTA).
I would like to thank NWKENT for his assistance in packaging all the needed files with clear directions for use, custom for the Mini, and to JCase for his hard labors in discovering the root process.
Thanks for confirmation and the download link. My Mini just arrived and it is 4.2.2 on 12.7.7. Like you, I want to end up with 4.2.2 on 12.15.15 ROOTed.
Am I correct, that the right way is to flash 4.2.2 12.15.15 firmware on stock device, and only after then root like this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=47067076 via rockmymoto?
Thanks!

Congrats! Take the part 1 download on NWKENT's link (http://waynekent.com/page18.html) - it has all files needed including the FXZ for 12.15.15. Yes, flash 1st to 12.15.15 and then follow NWKENT's directions - a very clean step-by-step. This is what I used for confirmation and worked seamless.
I am liking the additions in the 12.15.15 and do not expect moving onto KK until the OS gets some fixes (same report I have from others who have both-a lot are liking JB more)

Do you know how is it with write protection now? I remember that with PwnMyMoto there was a bit different setup. Did I lost the recovery, and by booting into recovery via fastboot I have the write protection off mode, and by booting regular I have root without it? Or does RockMyMoto disable write protection on regular boot and I still have the recovery? Thank you.

I believe write protection is off - android noob here so maybe someone more knowledgeable can post on it. What I do know is the next big step is to get Titanium Pro so you can freeze the 2 OTA (Over the Air) update programs so you don't accidentally get upgraded to 4.4 and loose root.
According to NWKENT, the two you want to freeze are MotorolaOTA 1.0 and Updater 1.0.
NWKENT said:
So..in Titanium..(Backup/Restore) button in the center..press..then a list of apps will display, swipe/scroll down the list, til you come to (MotorolaOTA 1.0) press this..then in the center, press "Freeze"..then the line will turn purple, indicating that this app is "Frozen"..then go back to your list and do the same process to "Updater 1.0"..now you have blocked any update that may come to your device

For those interested in the mini, it appears the 4.2.2 is at an end from Verizon. My wife's arrived today with 4.4. On a plus, after playing with her phone, I see some improvements in the 4.4 KK over 4.2.2-12.15.15. I am thinking of leaving JB behind and trying the next push to 4.4 root this weekend.
The biggest improvement I saw was in the touchless controls. It seemed far more responsive than mine (yes, I end up using this a lot).

Touchless was something I was liking and just getting the hang of using on my MAXX. I don't use it normally, but it was a big help in the car.
Since updating to 4.4 I haven't used touchless at all. It just doesn't work for me anymore. (e.g. Assist drive mode is gone, and the "OKGoogleNow" bit can't distinguish my voice from road noise. It was fine on 4.2.2.)

I have not used hers in the car but I did notice that tonight vs tv noise, while mine still on 4.2.2 did not have the same recognition issue. As I tested it last night, the room was quiet and her's activated better. In the noise tonight, it seemed 4.2.2 can filter out background noise better.

ZTE Z982 blade z max (ROOT)

Saw this posted by another member, can anyone confirm it's working?
ZTE Blade Z (Root)
This method works on my ZTE blade Z. Please let me know if this works on to your device too.
This guide is technically for all ZTE phones. ZTE phones are quite friendly with developers (but still can’t hit the level of Google and HTC).
Checklist:
Unlock your phone. Go to “developer option” ---- “unlock OEM”
Download TWRP and ADB tool
Install ZTE driver on computer. Yes, you would need a computer for this
How to root:
Restart your phone to bootloader (“volume down” + “battery”)
Open up your adb tool and rename TWRP as “recovery”. Drag it into the ADB toolkit and input the following command: “fastboot flash recovery recovery.img”. When finished, type “fastboot reboot” then reboot into system
Transfer SuperSU into phone’s internal memory, find the suitable SuperSU version ( SuperSU V2.64 and SuperSU V2.79)
Switch off your phone. Then press “volume up + start” to enter recovery mode
Install SuperSU by sliding it right in
Reboot, and you are all set.
I saw this too on another website, however, what is "battery"?
Is this something that requires battery removal? While I could care less about warranty on a 100$ phone, it's a pain in the ass getting a factory sealed phone to factory seal again. The screws never seem to stay as tight, even with locktite and always messes with your antennas signal strength
I think he means power button..
We need this phone rooted so bad it's the difference between a good phone and a POS. If it was rooted we could have OTG (which I can't believe they left out) more ram and overclock and with the battery this has overclocking could work well.
Not to mention the rooms they could build for this phone. There is so much potential here and it's being wasted.
We need someone out there to solve this...
Is the OP our answer? Is there a ZTE ROOT .APK?
Is there a way to flash it in factory dfu mode?

Install SuperSU by sliding it right in
Reboot, and you are all set.

thanks has there been any confirmation on this??
There is no fastboot on ZTE blade z, as of right now there is no way to unlock the bootloader it is signed, well guarded by Qualcomm msm8940 and ZTE which actually removed various commands hacks mods to unlock... There are a couple ways to access recovery and forgot there other in system flashers for flashing firehose files...
but it is very limited...

My big question is, why is the owner of a phone not allowed admin access? Is there some kind of contract or agreement or whatever between phone companies and/or mobile processor mfg's with Google to where the owner of a phone is not allowed full access? I get that if you buy a phone thru say T-Mobile with good credit and pay month to month, or get a free phone for switching to a company, or some other offer, that you are restricted, but it should be like a person who buys or builds their own computer. You are the owner, the admin, and can do whatever you want to your PC, with all the risks at the fault of the owner. What makes buying a phone at full price not becoming the rightful owner of it?

ZTE phones by MetroPCS and T-Mobile are not developer friendly.
Remember the ZTE Zmax Pro? Still doesn't have root. And this won't either.
Any one know what the factory testing mode is?

Well... I'm Confused
Hello,
I am very new to rooting and etc. so please don't mind me being very stupid or lost on this. I saw the same thing on Android Forums. Someone on the forum said it's fake and it got deleted. Now I had the ZTE ZMAX PRO and I remember people saying there is no root for it and currently there is no root for it which is a shame because the phone was very good. Also, I am a huge fan of ZTE phones because they are budget friendly and have some very good ideas with their phones. Also, I did see with the ZTE BLADE ZMAX has an FTM mode which I am very confused. Now, I am confused is there a possible root for the ZTE BLADE ZMAX or no? Also, sorry for the long post. Keep in mind, I'm very new to this.

There is no working root available for this phone. I keep telling myself I won't get any more ZTE phones, but then Metro will have a new one with fairly decent specs for really cheap and I'll give in. But the sad fact is, every ZTE phone I've tried over the last couple of years has been pretty locked down and never had a working root, nevermind stuff like TWRP or custom roms. The OP says ZTE is "developer friendly" but I have no idea what crazy alternate reality they live in. Aside from that, you can also rest assured that even though this is a very recently released phone, we still won't ever see an update to the latest version of Android. It's just not worth their time/money to provide updates to existing products when they can tweak the specs ever so slightly and rename it to the ZTE Blade Max Z Ultra Pro 2 or whatever and sell it to you again every few months. It's the price we pay for being able to get half decent specs for less than $150. Honestly, the only reason I chose this phone over the LG Stylo 3 Plus(the best 2 phones at the Metro store that I could afford at the time) was the dual camera, specifically because I really wanted the simulated bokeh feature for my phone pics. And I did buy it with the specific expectation that I'll probably never get root or custom roms etc. ZTE phones tend to look nice on paper when reading the spec list, but usually, end up pretty disappointing in actual usage if you're the type of person who uses their phone for more than the most basic/typical tasks.
TL;DR No, there is no root for this phone and probably never will be.

I wanted to get the LG G STYLO 3 in the Metro store. But people were saying it looks cheap and not a good quality phone. The store I was in had a fake one (the toy phones) so I couldn't see how it actually look in person. I have seen videos of it and it looks nice. Sorry for going off topic. And sorry I am still new to this but why can't the ZTE ZMAX PRO or the ZTE BLADE ZMAX can't be rooted? Is it because of Metro or ZTE won't allow it?
Why is this such an issue? There are plenty of phones you can root very easily that cost well over $300, and you're telling me that a cheap $100 ZTE Blade Z Max doesn't have any software exploits to permit rooting whatsoever?

Exactly- reminds me of the Note 4.
Bad News
Hello,
I have tried using Kingoroot and Kingroot to root the ZTE BLADE ZMAX and it would not work. Also, is there any update on the root or any status on the root with twrp?
Unable to get past the ADB Tool part and the TWRP doesn't have the exact match for a ZTE Max.
The reason that you would want to root this phone is because if you can, you will be able to turn on the S secure feature, and the phone will be on forever, do you understand what this means, ok you genius' think about this for a moment, now there you are, now you understand why we want to root this phone, consider the idea of being able to use this phone without ever, and I mean never having to pay a bill!!

Lady's and Gentlemen, I am currently working on a Root Hack for this phone the ZTE Blade (Z981 & Z982) Pro, once I have figured out the work around, I will be letting the world know, if you have any questions in the meantime about this phone, feel free to e-mail me, at: [email protected].
Look for the ZTE Hack soon, or Custom Rom Development soon.
Thank you,
Giffykard!!
Hey. I have the ZTE BLADE Z MAX too. Does anyone have a problem where the power button won't always turn off the screen and you have to kind of hold it to get the screen to turn on and off?
Yes

I have a large list of complaints that I brought to Zte and MetroPCS. They refused to give me a refund or exchange of a phone of equal or less value . I literally had the phone for less than 12 hours when I tried to return it. I was told that MetroPCS can not give refunds or exchanges on "phone upgrades".
1. Power button is unresponsive 4/5 times.
2. Apps reset after switching between them.
3. Multitasking with apps is not possible.
4. The mic is of horrible quality .
5. Speaker is also horrible.
6. Almost 70% of the ram is used by the OS.
7. The phone randomly resets.
8. The phone freezes on the daily basis.
9. SD card slot will not recognizing my SD cards .
10. Apps crash like the Titanic.
11. The phone over heats easily .
12. Phone becomes sluggish unless your clear the cache every day.
This thing is nothing, but a $130 inconvenience. I will never purchase another ZTE product again. After I sell this phone for $70 to some unlucky soul I'm leaving MetroPCS as well. It is criminal to charge people $100+ dollars for this POS.

If that's the case then I guess I'll do my best to not buy a ZTE phone again. So far I have two ZTE phones and none of them are root capable. I downloaded Kingoroot on my PC to see if I'll be able to root it that way but it failed many times over.

No because you need a TWRP recovery thats specific to the blade z max and we don't have one. And plus just going in and checking OEM unlock won't work, all that does is enable the bootloader to be unlocked, not actually unlock the bootloader itself

Walmart ONN 100003652 10.1 inch and gen 2 100015685 series root and CFW / Linux OS!

I know I’m a newb here but I wanted to make a thread dedicated to theses devices in which I I have detailed instructions for rooting as well as CFW’s and unbricking!
I appreciate any donations sent via PayPal email for PayPal is on my profile.
Onn 100003562 Root instructions:
****UPDATE*****
With the newly uploaded rom all you have to do is download use sp flash to install .
May still have to run " fastboot --disable-verity --disable-verification flash vbmeta vbmeta.img " command in fastboot mode.
Step 1: Downloads
Download Magisk manager and update.
Download ADB & FASTBOOT.
Below I'll have a link for windows. for linux run command "sudo apt install adb".
Dwnload boot.img and vbmeta.img.
Download SP Flash Tools and wwrMTK <---Will make this much faster XD.
I have all of these available
here--> https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1lREGI_nd7kghuR6vCDjhiOZvbWrpJfBo?usp=sharing <--here.
Step 2:
Install magisk manager and update.
You can either download on the tablet or sideload with adb.
For sideload in windows shift + right click in the platform tools directory and click open power shell here.
Make sure you have MagiskManager-v8.0.0[1].apk saved within this directory.
Then run command "adb install MagiskManager-v8.0.0[1].apk"
For linux Right click the directory in which you have MagiskManager-v8.0.0[1].apk stored and click open terminal here.
Then run command "adb install MagiskManager-v8.0.0[1].apk"
Step 3:
Either make a backup with SP Flash tools or use the boot.img i have provided and copy it to your tablet.
Open magisk on the tablet and click the install then click select image to patch. Locate the boot.img and select it by clicking on it. Watch it finish make sure it fully completes the patch and creates the magisk-patched.img file. Also it may or may not be necessary to patch the recovery.img depending on your system. most likely not.
Step 4:
Flashing the .img files.
Now that you have adb and the images necessary to flash your device power it down and back up holding the volume up key. Once It boots it should load into the bootloader screen click the up key until you have fastboot selected and then click the down key.
Now that you are in fast boot mode you are going to navigate to adb fastboot directory and right click and select open powershell here. again make sure you have all necessary .img files stored in the adb fastboot directory. you should have the patched .img and the vbmeta.img stored in the directory for windows.
Run these commands:
fastboot flashing unlock
fastboot --disable-verity --disable-verification flash vbmeta vbmeta.img
fastboot erase cache
fastboot flash boot magisk_patched.img
fastboot reboot
Wait for it to reboot and then you will be rooted with magisk. enjoy.
I'm always grateful for donations paypal email for donations is on my profile.
Thanks for everyone's work for these tablets. I have both the new 7" and 10.1". Does anyone know how to edit the lk.bin file to remove that ugly Orange State warning after unlocking the bootloader?

If anyone is interested, the 7" version is not compatible with the 10.1" version. Luckily SP Flash restored it.

Help! I followed the instructions in the OP, and everything worked fine. I then used ADB to uninstall some of the preinstalled apps, but I think I uninstalled something I shouldn't have. i'm getting crashes from mutltiple apps (Bluetooth, Contacts, etc).
I've downloaded the stock firmware/full in the linked GDrive share; how can I restore back to this stock firmware? I'm pretty new/noob with this, but I am familiar with Linux commands. (familiar enough to be dangerous...)

I believe that you need to download SP Flash tools if you haven't already. You can then, using the provided scatter file and the downloaded firmware, just reflash the stock firmware to the tablet. You will of course, have to re-root the tablet after it finishes

I’ll look into it sorry I’ve been having some issues lately and haven’t gotten much done on this thread. I was hoping to make an all in one spot for the newer android 10 models. I’ll get the 7 model info and stocks here soon. Is there already a working orange state mod already? If so can you link it and I’ll get into messing with it.
also these Mtk devicesseem to be difficult to get the source for. I’ve contacted mtk multiple times now and still have not gotten a response. I have however been digging through the hidden settings of thesedevices and it seems if they were to release their source they and Walmart may get into a huge amount of trouble as well as lawsuits filed against them. I’m finding these tablets have a sim installed somewhere and are uploading and downloading data via hidden software I’ve disabled the Verizon network locks and the data services in my device I just haven’t been able to really get into it to see what data is being transfer but I have also found some kinda remote camera and sound recorder software also hidden on the device.

What’s your system? Did you get it fixed? I know I screwed up my first go round with the 10.1 Bluetooth and such kept crashing after I removed one of the un used features well supposed to be unused. It was the telephony and the contacts and autodialer that caused my issues. But like I stated before there seems to be some kind of wireless data traffic that’s not supposed to be there hidden software wise and it seems to utilize the cellphone apps that are supposed to be unused. Like the original bloatware remover from one of these threads on the original android 9 versions cannot be used bc there is something utilizing the cellphone data apps.
Anyway if there is anything you need firmware wise let me know I’ll upload whatever I have available.
This is just BS. I agree about the hidden sim. I went through the different log files. This entire system is corrupt. My Google play store was installed by.... You guessed it Google Play. Click on it and I get a retry
My new Samsung phone is also screwed up and the 102.00 for Norton VPN and security was shredded in seconds.
There is NO original boot, no original system. What an I supposed to do? This is the 2nd one. Can't hard reset damn phone, Cricket because I've lost so many. I was able to hard set the Samsung without the SIM card, and it was perfect. Put the SIM card in, and all that freaking bloat comes in.
So I'm no IT person, with compromised systems that's supposed to download ANYTHING and just hope I'm not redirected?? I'm just so suck and Tues off this. I just need to search, make phone calls. I don't even do any social media any longer! Please, tell me what I can trust anymore??? And I'm just out another round it up to 500.00 and I'm in disability. I'm so disheartened and hopeless
I used this method to root the new tablet I just picked up, and now whenever I launch any app it freezes my tablet and forces a fast reboot of the tablet, I believe I am on android 10, but I can't confirm as I can't even open settings
okay, so I tried to completely flash the stock images you provided in the other thread, got everything working again, without root, then flashed the patched images you had and got stuck in a screen that just said onn with nothing else happening
edit: I have adb access to the device when it's plugged in so I'm not sure what is happening
Alright, I found out my issue, I was flashing the wrong patched boot img on an older firmware instead of updating to latest, I have gotten a working magisk root on the 10.1 tablet.
So as promised I have attached the lk.bin with the no orange state modification it does still seem to hang for 5 seconds but the ugly message is no longer visible.
this is for the 100003562 10.1 inch model but should work with the newer 10.1 inch models with the MT8768WA chipset that come with android 10.
Installation Instructions:
1. Download lknoorange.bin attached to post.
2. Open either powershell (Windows) or Terminal (linux) where you have the file saved.
3. Put device in fastboot mode by powering on and holding the volume up button and selecting fastboot with volume down button.
4. Use command:
"fastboot flash lk lknoorange.bin"
5. Use command:
"fastboot reboot"
Now you should no longer see the ugly message on boot.
Always love getting donations thanks again all and I wish you the happiest of holidays.
