I wake up everyday looking for news about 2.3 getting released. I am on 2.2.1 so I lost the ability to root. So i hope this comes out soon and if anyone has any info please post.
Officially it should come out in "coming weeks" as this tweet suggests - http://twitter.com/googlenexus/status/16974464310845440.
But there's a way to root your 2.2.1 anyways. Follow this guide:

SuperOneClick works great if you still want root.

Just unlock your bootloader.
I have tried the super one click no luck
Other than unlocking, which is the preferred and safest way to do it. You could just follow the guide that was linked here. I did it for my friend just last week because he was afraid of the official way to root for some reason. It worked perfectly.
Yeah I did it the rageagainstthecage way.

Odd, are you sure you have the latest Super One Click? It worked fine for me 2.2.1 N1 on T-Mobile.

Works fine for me. Did you get stuck at the looping problem after following the steps in the OP?
The way around that, as many of us have discovered, is to turn the phone off then run SuperOneClick and select 'root'. Turn the phone back on once 'waiting for device..' is shown in the program and then just leave it until it finishes.
Ensure USB debugging is enabled before you get started and that your PC has the required drivers installed. (Check Device Manager).
To be fair the Original Post needs updating as the instructions aren't very good without the above being mentioned.

Dumb question but, does that method allow you to install custom roms (e.g. CM7) without unlocking the bootloader, thus keeping the warranty?

Using exploit to root allows you to get rooted device without unlocking the bootloader. However, I cannot tell you 'your warranty is kept' for certain(as long as bootloader is locked and you can revert to stock, I think it's okay).

This does not unlock the boot loader....... and, yes you can flash roms once rooted.
Good luck on that warrenty buisness.

If you do revert to stock there should be no way to tell you ever modified the rom, isn't that right?

Unfortunately you can only relock the bootloader on Nexus S, according to a Google Android developer

Is this "official" though? It's been 23 days since that post.
We'll get it, but I'm just bored of waiting. With so much anticipation, we'll probably be disappointed. Hope not.

His question isn't about relocking the bootloader. But as long as you reflash the stock ROM and recovery, then I don't think there would be a way to tell without further examination. Regardless, HTC isn't too strict with the warranty claims, as many members on this forum have claimed warranty and sent back rooted phones to HTC. You should be fine.

that's 3 weeks. "coming weeks" being a PR equivalent of more than a month, we should be waiting for gb another 2 weeks at least...
It's only 5% of GB, but you can have the keyboard from it. A definite improvement and works perfectly on my N1 with 2.2.1 (no root needed):

Hi,
i did hear around that an new exploit was found for unlocking our kindle fire HDX, but this exploit would not work anymore on latest update ( 13.3.2.4 ). I can not confirm this news but you are now warned in case it's real.

newest towelroot version (download from towelroot.com) can root this version. I have tried on my HDX 7 successfully.
Are you talking about root? Or are you talking about something more serious?

What do you mean by "unlocking"?
It's not about root, it's about unlock the boot loader
Without unlocked bootloader, we will never have customs roms , kernel, recovery, etc

Yep i'm talking about an unlock method but i have no more information. But i think it's important to share ...
Has anyone tried to downgrade from the latest version?
I've seen one other person mention an unlock exploit. I have searched and searched and can't find any information on it. Where did you hear about it from?

looks kinda hokey to me... ive found info on theunlockr's site talking about safestrap working, which is what ive used on all the verizon devices ive rooted that also have locked bootloaders. I have a GS3 thats currently ROMmed and rooted which has a locked bootloader, also a RAzR, a Bionic, Droid 3 (sold)... and.... thint might be it for locked bootloader devices. But i have quite the bevvy if Androids and have never run into such an issue. There is almost ALWAYS a workaround, such as safestrap. Read more guys, there is a solution
edit: there is an issue with flashing AOSP/AOKP ROMs with safestrap on some devices, but the RAzR is running SLIMKAT right this very moment, and its working perfectly fine. Seems to be an issue with access to a partition that i cant recall the name of offhand. Sorry, too much hands off time since i got my S5
Hey,
I have two questions about the Axon7 and rooting in general.
First is, if there is a possibility to root the Axon7 without an unlocked bootloader. Just need the root for some Apps (e.g. adaway).
The second is: if there is a possibility to root the Axon, will OTA Updates work or how do I get updates?
Thanks for your help.

Nobody Knows and Nobody Knows, in that order. Really, there's a gazillion threads about this already.
I look for others threads and did not find one about this topic. They all discuss about bootloader. As far as I understood, bootloader is needed for CustomRom? I just need simple root.
And i also did not find a thread about root and OTA. If you can post me links to these topics please? If I can find my answers anywhere else, this can be closed. Thank youf

Well, you were able root without unlocked bootloader if there's a software exploit back in the day but those are very rare these day.
Lg GA was able to be rooted without an unlocked bootloader. Was even able to get a few roms loaded using an exploit.

Exploits that give you full, permanent root are becoming harder to achieve in recent Android versions.
I know that for the zenfone 2 (ZE551ML) there was untethered twrp, this was then used to flash SuperSU to the device granting root access BUT that was when it was released with Android 5.0 Lollipop...
Hopefully this can carried over to Marshmallow for the Zenfone 3, it might give us some hope too...
Depends how many Devs actually get this device....

Darn companies not wanting us to screw around with our devices! Lol I can see why they don't want us to in a way. I just want more customized options.
I see a lot of roms and root threads in the general galaxy s7e discussion forums but i see only 1 rom listed under the t-mobile variant. Are the other roms not going to work on G935t? or will they work but theres no point having multiple threads?
im coming from almost entirely nexus stuff before so this phone is still rather new to me with how locked down it is.

Tekv2 and Echoe are the only ones.
Personally and suggestion, i'll head up for TEKV2
This phone is locked down like Fort Knox. The locked bootloader was a big disappointment for ROM and root lovers, especially for early adopters like me.

I thought we had gotten past that? Or is it just that we have root but the bootloader itself is still locked?

Nothing has changed. We have root because of an engineering kernel that allows root commands. But bootloader will not allow us to flash anything that isn't developed or approved by Samsung.
Is there a ROM for this yet? And link to how to root and install and unlock BL?

Unfortunately for the xt1609 there is no bootloader unlock method available, no root method available, and therefore no roms available for it. Verizon has the xt1609 on complete lockdown.

This is partially incorrect, it DOES have a root method, just not a bootloader unlock method. Got to the auto#initroot thread by searching XT1609, mine is rooted and works fine. Like I said though, no bootloader unlockage yet. Nor custom ROMs.

However, at the time of my posting it was correct that there was no bootloader unlock/root method available for the xt1609.

Appreciate the fyi though.

I remember you, and I agree, at the time it was correct. And I have been working on a BL unlock. It might happen, since I am able to flash BLs no issue, we could possibly just use an unlocked bootloader from an XT1601 or something of the sort, since it is a harpia device, it should in theory work.

That's what I'm working on, finding an unlocked BL file to use, or, if I can, edit mine so that I can test it. If it works, I'll upload the file, if it does not, I will try to figure out the whole deal about blowing a QFuse.

Yes, as the /dev folder is not write protected*, but I wasn't able to boot it, locked BL. I flashed twrp3.1.1.0-harpia and it DID flash, but like I said, locked BL.

Disregard that, I made a mistake post. And no, could not find a BL from one of those devices that was pre-unlocked.
