Z5 Compact unlocked bootloader - problems that may occur - Xperia Z5 Compact General

Now that we've confirmed that even the new sony z5c will lose your DRM keys if you use the Sony official way of unlocking.
As most people have tested, the phone camera seems to be okay right now.
If you have any problems that is due the unlocking bootloader, can you please post it here so people can make a judgement if unlocking is worth it or not.
Thanks

Where is the proof of losing your keys? And dont come wit hthe z3 info like people did last time.

To test DRM key lost:
1 - X-Reality
1. Turn off X-Reality
2. Open Album and take screenshot after open vivid photo like flowers
3. Go back and turn on X-Reality
4. Open Album and take screenshot of same photo as 2.
5. Compare it on your PC, you will notice color difference if DRM key is not wiped.
2 - Camera's noise reduction
1. Take photo at dark place (under the desk?)
2. You will notice a lot of color noise when you enlarged the photo if DRM key is wiped.

No, I only tested on Z1,Z2,Z3,Z4 Tablet.
This test method is valid for all older devices with DRM protection, so if someone can prove it you can say Z5 variant doesn't loose DRM key.
I don't think Sony changes their policy for Z5, though.

I am pretty sure your DRM keys will be lost if you don't back up them with locked bootloader root. Which we'll have to wait for a while.
I hope there will be a way to root with locked bootloader. But with Marshmallow, you never know since it was bit difficult to get root and SU in beta stage.
Hope there will be vulnerability

I don't use the cameras much and don't have a playstation, but can confirm that after unlocking so far
- backup & restore doesn't work (automatic or manual)
- over the air updates don't work
- updates via PC companion don't work
(Annoying, I wish
1. I hadn't so enthusiastically unlocked it
2. There was a way to re-lock it

I know that feeling.... I was so happy when I unlocked my Xperia Z and then camera went to the toilet. But DRM restore worked around the drm keys and made the phone functional again. It supports a large array of xperias so maybe there will be a version for Z5.
I'm now lurking here with my xperia Z hoping to see a bootloader friendly root method. Without root, xposed and drm content working the Z5 would be useless.

Yep this happened to me on my z1c days.
Didn't research DRM enough to appreciate the value of them.

hope you learn from this but lucky you can update the phone wit htyhesony flashtool.

I have noticed ****ty low noise performance, but I just assumed it was because phone cameras are ****ty in general.
Good to know it's software.

Hi,
sorry but it's too late.
You lose your DRM Keys (forever) when you unlock your bootloader.
That's why people wait root access before unlock bootloader.
With root access you can dump TA partition (DRM Keys).
Your service center can't restore them.
The last solution is that a developer finds a way to bypass these keys.

Service center has changed the motherboard/ mainboard of the phone

but what does DRM have to do with the photo quality? (Isnt DRM digital right management?)
Kind regards
Sopur

Because of BIONZ and legally protected postprocessing algorithams.

Camera sucks anyway (unless you used xperia Z for a long time). Maybe not the sensor. But the firmware is bull****.
Sony should stop worrying about this DRM keys protection and start to focus more in quality assessment

yeah its pretty cool. its like the field test thing on the iphone
stop keeping me in suspences. What exactly is it?
It's sort of analytics and status for ur device
Tells u some informaitons such as battery life and loaded apps

And if you save that string value as telephone number for contact aaa you can enter test mode in 3 touches, open phonebook > hold aaa > select edit number before call.
Here is a couple of screen shots that show you some information on your device.

Yeah, if you look at the second post I already admitted that. Read before you Post.
Heres the Code to Unlock the Menu :
In the Lock Screen ( the one with the Swype animation! ) Press the buttons below, simultaneously and in succession,
Menu, Back, Back, Menu, Back, Menu, Menu, Back
Code:
- How to Lock my SMS Messages on Xperia X10?
Android does not provide locking of single apps and hence your privacy is not full-proof! But the android developers came up with a cool Application Locking App in Android. It provides Complete Privacy with your SMS Messages, Emails, Google Talk, etc.
The application is “ Protector “! Find a complete Review and Details about it here. I shot a video with the app as well, don’t forget to check out the video to get an idea of how it works on the Xperia X10.
- How to BackUP “Everything” on your Xperia X10?
Before you upgrade your Xperia X10 to the Latest firmware, you would like to take a backup of all your data, sms, apps, etc on your Xperia X10. To Get the best Backing Up Solution for your Xperia X10, check the Review of best BackUp Apps for your Xperia X10.
- How to get Smart Dialing in Xperia X10?
We, all know that the Smart Dialing feature is missing from the Xperia X10. And it’s really important feature to many of out there. So, to find the Best Smart Dialing Apps for Xperia X10, check here.
- How to Take Screenshots from your Xperia X10?
Taking screenshots on Xperia X10 doesn’t need any rooting now. Follow this simple guide to take screenshots of the Xperia X10! Taking Screenshots on your Xperia X10 can’t get simpler unless it gets rooted.
- How to View Videos in FullScreen Mode in Mediascape?
You would have noticed that it’s very hard to find a good video convertor that converts all the formats to the one thats applicable for Xperia X10 and also matches the screen resolution of it, 854×480. Which results in the videos not getting to full screen in the Mediascape, but Sony Ericsson solved this problem quite nicely.
Just Double tap the Video while it’s playing and it stretches to the full screen without affecting the pixel ratio.
The only pre-requisite to it is, that the video must be in the Ratio of 16:9 and not 4:3.
- How to Enter Safe Mode in Xperia X10?
To enter into Safe mode in Xperia X10, Reboot the Phone, and when the Phone Vibrates, press the Volume Down Key.

[GUIDE][5th August] Things everybody should do with their Xperia Z/ZL after unboxing.

A few things had to be done since unboxing, and now I'm completely satisfied. Xperia Z is the best phone ever.
This is mostly experience speaking, but I'll link sources to motivate my reasoning. Also, all of below is revertible - therefore does not void the warranty. The few things I did so far:
Day 0 - Unboxing
If you received screen protectors with your Xperia Z I recommend installing them until you get better ones.
Baptise it in holy water. Root required.
Day 1 - Charge battery. Li-ion batteries like slow charging, slow draining.
Charged with phone completely off. [1]
Used a USB 2.0 (500mA) port to charge. Stock charger is 1500mA. [2]
Turned on phone once fully charged. Note: Try charging often enough to avoid deep 0% discharges and prolong battery life.
Here's Xperia Z's overall battery test score.
Day 2 - Get Adobe Flash Player working. Remove Google advertisements.
Install latest Adobe Flash.
Get Boat Browser. Then perform Settings -> Page Content Settings -> Enable flash/plug-ins -> "Always on".
Or Firefox, and perform Menu -> More -> Settings -> Plugins -> "Enabled".
Alternatively, download Dolphin Browser for Android and follow this guide. Root required.
AdAway, which was removed from Google Play market, removes most advertisements from Android. Due to Adaway's removal from Google Play it has moved to F-Droid market, which only houses ad-free and open-source applications. Root required.
Day 3 - Rooted Xperia Z
Discovered Towelroot and rooted the phone. To install application ensure: Settings ->Security -> "Allow installation of apps from unknown sources" -> Enable. Root acquired.
Updated the Superuser application directly after rooting. Superuser -> info -> "tap to check for updates" -> update. Root required.
Day 4 - Full-screen Navigation. No onscreen buttons. Phone/Phablet/Tablet mode. Change display resolution.
Try full!screen+ or GMD Auto Hide Soft Keys and see if they satisfy your full-screen navigation needs. If not, read below.
What we want to achieve.
Install Pie Control or the more advanced LMT Launcher, and setup it to your liking. Note how binding the standard menu and back buttons requires root.
As video description states, add "qemu.hw.mainkeys=1" to /system/build.prop using a file manager like Solid Explorer to remove standard navigation buttons and reboot. Root required.
To regain on-screen navigation remove "qemu.hw.mainkeys=1" from /system/build.prop.
Pixel density (DPI) can be changed with Texdroider DPI. Root required.
Phone/Phablet/Tablet mode changing is enabled by Phab7 module, which requires Xposed Framework to work. More modules are here. Each Xposed module can be regarded as a MOD. Xposed is a new safer framework for writing MODs. Root required.
Day 5 - Calibrate the Xperia Z display for better colours
Applied the display calibration utility from this thread and became a happier Xperia Z owner. Root required.
Downloaded the calibration utility and used Alternative Method to install it on the stock rom. If you happen to already have CWM use the flashable zip. Note: rw-r-r corresponds to this when using Solid Explorer.
Used the calibration values suggested in the first post.
Day 6 - 64GB microSDXC and exFAT
Bought a SanDisk Mobile Ultra microSDXC Class 10 UHS-I 64GB.[3]
Noticed phone formats the card to FAT32, which works just fine, but it limits file sizes to a max of 4GiB. If you're fine with max 4GiB files you can skip this entirely.
So I formatted the microSD card to exFAT on a computer, and installed [MOD] exFAT support for Xperia Z(non-Japanese verisons) to make the Xperia Z read exFAT filesystems. Root required.
Now the file size limit is 16EiB. Also, exFAT is optimized for flash memory unlike NTFS and HFS+ filesystems.
Day 7 - Useful Applications
Use Greenify to hibernate unused applications. Drastically improves battery time unlike application killers. If you want to use Greenify with Sony's STAMINA mode be sure to: Settings -> Power management -> STAMINA mode -> Add applications -> Pick Greenify. Now Stamina Mode and Greenify coexist. Root required.
User xperiax10.awesome has made a useful thread listing good applications that don't require root.
Outside of XDA there's androidpolice.com with weekly editions of Best New Android Apps and quarterly Top Android Apps Every Rooted User Should Know About.
Day 8 - Xperia Z Accessories
Detailed scientific reviews of expensive top-shelf headphones at Goldenears.net and HeadphoneInfo.com.
User DarkKrypt made an excellent thread on Sony Xperia Z Covers, Cases & Accessories.
Day 9 - Backup procedures and Sony Xperia™ Support phone repair. Read this before flashing MODs.
Because MODs might mess up your phone I'll review on some backup procedures and phone repair procedures.
The following will present steps to thoroughly backup Contacts, SMS and MMS messages, applications, and system settings. Photos and music included. Last two steps are repair related.
If you happen to have TWRP or CWM installed, do a backup from there. This will clone your present system in its entirety to a backup file. CWM or TWRP required.
Install Titanium Backup, Go Backup Pro or your favourite backup application.
If you settled for Titanium Backup do the following to backup, and this to restore backups. Titanium backup requires root, and costs a lot, but it is also the most powerful backup application out there.
If you used Go Backup Pro make a batch backup of everything important and follow instructions on the screen.
Save all folders containing backups, photos, music and anything of importance to your computer. Backups are in the folders named TitaniumBackup, GOBackup, clockworkmod and TWRP depending on the backup application you use. Photos are in a folder named DCIM. Copy everything if you're unsure.
If you messed up your phone Sony PC Companion can repair/restore your phone - here's a restore guide written by Sony Xperia™ Support. It will erase all data stored on your Xperia Z, so be sure to backup beforehand!
To restore your applications you might have to root the Xperia Z again. If you're only restoring Contacts, SMS, MMS, and Call Log there will be no need for root access. Restoring applications might require root. Copy all backups from the computer back to the device, then install the application you used to make the backups, and proceed to restore backups.
Day 10 - Custom Recovery. Flashing with CWM and TWRP on stock factory-locked bootloaders.
Install either ClockworkMod (CWM) or TeamWin Recovery Project (TWRP) to gain flashing capability. Note: CWM and TWRP can't read exFAT formatted microSD cards. This means if microSD is exFAT formatted you can only backup to phone storage. Root required. CWM or TWRP acquired.
Because the bootloader remains locked flashing will only work for MODs and STOCK based ROMs.[4] This means you can't flash AOSP[5], AOKP[6] and CM[7] based ROMs.
You can now also perform Nandroid backups. CWM or TWRP required.
Day 11 - Improving Xperia Z Audio Quality
Flash [SOUNDMOD] PureXAudio or [SOUNDMOD][Z/ZL/ZR][06/07][Pj.SNC] PureXAudio |442 Support to dramatically improve Xperia Z's MPQ8064 audio processing chip's sound quality. CWM or TWRP required.
Because the above MOD significantly increases audio volume I also chose to also flash the optional Stock audio volume patch. Be sure to not hurt your ears! CWM or TWRP required.
If you flashed stock volume, but want it loud again flash [SOUNDMOD] PureXAudio once more.
Day 12 - Considering Unlocking the Bootloader. Voids the warranty.
The advantage of voiding warranty by unlocking the bootloader is the ability to flashing ROMs requiring completely different kernels. Which means that an unlocked bootloader can disobey the information provided in footnote [4].
A disadvantage is the loss of DRM keys and BRAVIA 2 engine, however this can be prevented. Another disadvantage is that Sony PC Companion will not be able repair your phone anymore.
To prevent the loss of DRM keys and BRAVIA 2 engine perform the instructions provided in [Tutorial] Backup You TA Partition To Keep Your Drm Keys before unlocking. Be sure to read most of the 50+ pages of this thread, as performing the procedure erroneously may result in a bricked, non-functional Xperia Z.
Afterwards you may proceed to unlock the bootloader or simply skip this step and store the DRM keys for safekeeping.
Once the bootloader is unlocked most parts of this guide do not serve as a valid reference anymore.
[1] "It's best to turn the device off during charge; parasitic load can alter full-charge detection and overcharge battery or cause mini-cycles."
[2] ".. a battery wears down more quickly if discharged harshly and if force-charged with high currents.. "

[4] ".. kernel must be entirely stock including initrd otherwise its cryptographic signature will not validate.. "

Re: [GUIDE] Things everybody should do with their Xperia Z after unboxing.
Thanks for the info, I'll be picking my Z up today. What about the APNs? Make any changes? I had planned on setting them up as outlined here: http://rootzwiki.com/topic/31135-att-apns-for-custom-roms/
Also, what's all the hoopla about getting the notification LED to work properly? Read people saying you need to do a factory reset right away, then don't restore apps from Google.. Etc. Yours work okay?
Also from the way it sounds, the film *should* be removed from the screen, but should *not* from the back?

I don't believe all those batt formating things.
AFAIK those batterries are ready to be used without any crazy many days of formatting.

I pragmatically tried to keep things simple, because it's so easy to unbeknownst 'dirty' a stock rom.
But there were two minor things I did directly after rooting, and those were:
Restore missing applications with Titanium Backup.
Restore SMS and MMS messages with Go Backup Pro.
Otherwise the only changes made since unboxing are the ones mentioned in the opening post.
This also means that I did not factory reset anything or remove any protective film. Such practices are a matter of taste and opinion. I did apply the supplied back-protective film though.
Apart from that - yes the notification LED works without troubles so far, and no I did not change any APN settings because this is a stock rom. What you linked covers APN settings for custom roms.

Typically international phones do not come with these AT&T APN settings. Go take a peek and see what your on. I'm guessing wap.cingular?
I will also be doing a TB restore, but removing the front film.
EDIT: wait wait... I just realized you aren't in the USA.. So yeah, no use changing the APN settings. Tapatalk doesn't show the side bar info, and I just assumed. My apologies.

Yes, there's an easier method, but note that the thread doesn't cover important matters such as adb driver installation.
Nonetheless, the thread is here, and make sure to thank Bin4ary if this helps!
I am getting a 64gb SDHC card..As the thread says it reads SDXC...does XZ resd SDHC too? will there be problem?

If a device supports SDXC, then it will also support the older SDHC and SD standards. There won't be any problems.

Drained battery again. Power on the device, turn off screen, and let battery drain slowly from 100% to 0% or until the Xperia Z turns itself off. Alternatively, screen off from 15% to 0% should be enough. The key word here is slowly. [3]
Repeated this 2 more times during the forthcoming days, and battery life is perfect.
People that complain about any phone's battery life on XDA didn't do the above.
This is a one-time procedure to help you make the best of your built-in battery. After above has been done avoid deep 0% discharges to prolong battery life.
Day 2 - Rooted the phone
Saw this [ROOT] Xperia Z for LOCKED, UNLOCKED bootloaders! [Exploit by: goroh_kun & huhka_com] and rooted the phone. There's a new simple Root MANY ANDROID! method - it has NFC fix incorporated but thread doesn't cover ADB driver installation like the other guide.
Updated the Superuser application directly after rooting. Superuser -> info -> "tap to check for updates" -> update.
NFC stopped working after rooting, but apparently that's normal. There's a simple fix for that.
Day 3 - Calibrate the Xperia Z display for bettter colours
Applied the display calibration utility from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2190293 and became a happier Xperia Z owner. Root required.
Downloaded the calibration utility and followed these steps to install it on the stock rom. Note: rw-r-r corresponds to this when using Solid Explorer.
Used the calibration values suggested in the first post.
Day 4 - 64GB microSDXC and exFAT
Bought a SanDisk Mobile Ultra microSDXC Class 10 UHS-I 64GB.
Noticed phone formats the card to FAT32, which limits file sizes to a max of 4GiB.
So I formatted the microSD card to exFAT on a computer, and installed Paragon exFAT, NTFS & HFS+ to make the Xperia Z read exFAT filesystems. Root required.
Now the file size limit is 16EiB. Also, exFAT is optimized for flash memory unlike NTFS and HFS+ filesystems.
Day 5 - Finding applications
User xperiax10.awesome has made a useful thread listing good applications that don't require root.
Outside of XDA there's androidpolice.com with weekly editions of Best New Android Apps and quarterly Top Android Apps Every Rooted User Should Know About.
[1] "It's best to turn the device off during charge; parasitic load can alter full-charge detection and overcharge battery or cause mini-cycles."
[2] ".. a battery wears down more quickly if discharged harshly and if force-charged with high currents.. "
[3] Simple Calibration Circuit Maximizes Accuracy in Li-Ion Battery Management Systems. Section 2: "Accounting for the Error Sources".
What else should be done to this Xperia Z?
Be sure to thank people in the posts I linked to above, thank you!

A full drain is recommended to do once every month if you want maintain battery percentage bar accuracy.
Based on that I see no harm in doing the procedure once. I'm currently on my third slow discharge procedure and I have 56% battery after 24h. No stamina mode, and WiFi on.
The quoted guide above will be outdated soon, as I continuously improve the coherency of the guide. Please refer to the first post if you're unsure about anything.
Thanks for this helpful Thread

I don't know if you are reading what you linking to, but these batteries does not require any calibration.
"Li-ion does not need to be fully charged, as is the case with lead acid, nor is it desirable to do so. In fact, it is better not to fully charge, because high voltages stresses the battery"
So please don't make such advices if you care for others.
The same is with laptops and some manufacturers even provide special software to control battery not to being charged to 100% everytime (like Lenovo)

You are correct that overcharge protective softwares exist. But that's becuse it's difficult to predict when a battery is fully charged if a parasitic load, such as a laptop, is simultaneously connected and powered on. The built in battery circuit becomes unreliable in this situation, and a dedicated software algorithm predicts when the battery is fully charged instead. This is especially important when speed-charging with modern chargers that sport high currents.
But, when charging with the device shut off the battery circuit is accurate. Which means that you can never overcharge a powered off device.
The above is my motivation for both recommending charging with the device when powered off, aswell as using a 500mA USB 2.0 port when charging. I can explain more if you wish so.
Li-Ion batteries don't like being drained completely though. Therefore this will always remain a one-time procedure.
All in all I understand your concerns, and will amend the suggested frequency of the procedure.

I like the devices I buy, and I happen to have a masters in Embedded Systems, which also means each new device I buy becomes an experiment where I focus on perfection in all aspects.
If you think I'm a joke I can add that I'm the one that helped _thalamus optimize the hot paths in his IDLE2 kernel. Apart from that, please refrain from useless comments and try to keep the thread constructive and on topic.

Ex Xperia S owner here, issues with Galaxy S4 i9505 KK.

1. Why the ?%$& is the album art getting displayed in full screen in the lock screen? It looks like absolute ****. Can't seem to find a way to disable this disgusting feature.
2. Why isn't my preference of keeping the lights under the buttons constantly enabled? After a while they just don't turn on anymore.
3. Any way to get something resembling realistic colors on this god awful screen? Jesus christ the screen on my Xperia S was way better than this. The various screen modes don't seem to make any difference.
4. Any way to disable the shutter sound on camera? I mean what were they thinking, making it impossible to disable?
5. Can I get the Sony WALKMAN app and widgets on this phone and if yes, how?
6. What the hell is KNOX?
7. How do I get rid of S Voice once and for all? The stupid gimmick keeps popping up and talking and I don't know what the hell it wants from me.
There's more, but I'm done for today.
8. Suggestion on how to deal with buyer's remorse?
Thank you.

It seems to me that what you don't like about S4 is the software. Sure, it packs lots of crap wares. I too can't stand those so I have to rooted and customized those.
1. Album art is kitkat feature, it exist also in AOSP and no option to disable it.
2. Mine stay on if I chose "Always on"
3. You're used to LCD screen, granted LG G2, HTC One... screen are better, not sure about Xperia S. What I love about Amoled is true black, viewing angle, battery consumption... however color reproduction is slightly off, but far better that Amoled it replaced.
4. Mine; go to camera pp > Settings > 3rd tab > Shutter sound > off.
5. Not sure, it might just like installing app... you gotta search in this forum.
6. KNOX is some enterprise feature... not sure anyone use it. But flashing fw could lead to KNOX warranty void and make your phone lose warranty.
7. You can disable S Voice app.
8. I'm not sure.
Hope some one will give you clearer info on this.
Thanks for trying to help me. I'm sorry if I sound mad in my post but I expected a lot more and was pretty disappointed. And yeah, my main issue is the software, it looks bad and it's not as usable and refined as the Sony UI I was used to.
That being said
1. It's too bad you can't disable fullscreen album art, it looks so bad.
2. Mine also stay on for a while, then all of a sudden they're off and there's no way to turn them back on again unless I fiddle with the settings. What could be the problem?
3. Yeah, screen is just a matter of getting used to. I'm more used to a realistic color palette with lighter whites. This looks a bit off to me, and whites are slightly tinted but it seems there's no way to fix it (on Xperia there was a "white balance app", Samsung doesn't seem to have an equivalent).
4. Why is it not there on mine? I searched everywhere for it, it's nowhere to be found. Maybe it's because I have the stock Italian firmware? Which firmware are you using? On Xperia there were various variants of the same firmware, I flashed a "WORLD" one which had no third party bloat, is there a similar one for Samsung?
By the way, I rooted the phone by flashing some file from Odin, but I'm having issues: for example, I tried to apply the hosts patch with adaway, and it doesn't seem to work properly, also, I can't seem to get Android Commander to detect the phone no matter what, and I tried to install CWM using ROM Manager from Play Store, and that also doesn't work (I still have the stock Samsung recovery that's completely useless), even though ROM Manager says I installed CWM.
And one last question, how do you know if a new firmware is available? Since I rooted and tripped that Knox BS, it now says I'm not original anymore and I'm not going to receive any more updates. Is there a website I can check for firmware updates? My phone is an unbranded i9505.
Thanks in advance.

Look Here Before Asking Questions [Kitkat Related]

As many of us have took the recent Kitkat OTA we have a variety of questions. Since there have been many threads asking the same question or related to the same question, I will be making this thread to keep this from continuing.
Question: I have took the Kitkat update, is there any way I can root?
Answer: No, no known exploit works on the RAZR M, unless you have a unlocked bootloader. Then you can flash a custom recovery and flash a superuser.zip and gain root access (Credits - fredsky2)
Question: Can I unlock my bootloader now that I have the kitkat update?
Answer: No, the bootloader has been patched ever since the JB OTA. No exploits will work with the RAZR M.
Question: Will Rootkeeper keep root after the OTA?
Answer: I've yet to see it work so I assume no.
Question: When I take the OTA, will it lock my bootloader?
Answer: No, once the bootloader is unlocked, it cannot be relocked.
Question: Can I downgrade to Jellybean after the Kitkat OTA?
Answer: No, the bootloader is locked, meaning you cannot downgrade or even touch the kernel.
Question: How can I return my phone to stock so I can receive the OTA?
Answer: RSD back to stock.
Question: Where can I get the SBF Files for the DROID RAZR M?
Answer: Here: http://sbf.droid-developers.org/phone.php?device=8
Question: My phone won't let me take the Kitkat ota, what do I do?
Answer: Most likely it's because apps are disabled or root is present. RSD back to stock is typically the solution to the problem. If you want to RSD back to stock but don't want to lose your data, look for the question below.
Question: Can I sim unlock after I take the Kitkat update? (Suggestion Credits - gtmaster303)
Answer: Yes! There is a tutorial with video on how to do it found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2487863 . MAKE SURE YOU HAVE PROPER DRIVERS INSTALLED!
Question: Can I flash a custom recovery after the Kitkat update?
Answer: No, unless your bootloader is unlocked.
Question: I'm getting a getvar error, how do I fix it?
Answer: In the xml file found in the zip, delete any getvar lines at the beginning of the file.
Question: Can I RSD without clearing data?
Answer: Yes! I asked myself and I'm adding this for others sake. Delete the <step operation="erase" partition="userdata" /> line in the XML file found in the zip. I suggest using it only for when you're on the same version of the update. So 9.30.1 to 9.30.1. Give credits to lem22 for helping me out! http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2755924
Question: What's are the overall changes/problems with Kitkat? (Suggestion Credits - Strife89)

The Good
The UI is definitely smoother. It doesn't jitter or stall under heavy usage anywhere near as much as it did in Jellybean.
Battery life when the phone is asleep seems to have been improved a little.
USB audio out is now supported.
The occasional "screen jitter" that plagued the Jellybean build is gone.
KitKat's Quick Settings panel is quite handy.
The native lock screen now supports adding, removing, and rearranging widgets.
Although it can't be installed from the Play Store, the Google Experience Launcher can be sideloaded and works just fine.
The Neutral / Very Subjective
The AOSP keyboard has changed; the keys are smaller and, in landscape, very squashed. You may need to adjust to it (I'm trying, but it's a struggle) or find a replacement.
Battery life when the phone is actively in use has not been noticeably improved in my experience; but it hasn't been noticeably worsened, either.
There's now a shortcut to the camera from the lock screen, which can be used even if the phone is locked by a pattern/PIN/etc. (Great if you're a shutterbug; not so great if someone else decides to troll your Dropbox/Drive account.)
The Google Camera app works - but Photosphere can't be used, as the Razr M doesn't have a gyroscope.
The Bad
No more root, for those with locked BLs (me). (Saferoot fails, and many users are reporting losing root even when they try survival methods.)
Wi-Fi tethering via most apps (e.g., FoxFi) has been blocked, so now you must pay your carrier for the feature unless a new workaround is discovered.
All notifications I've seen so far now flash the notification light white, instead of unique colors. This may be frustrating for some who used the colors to decide whether to check the phone immediately or later. (Luckily, there are ways to address this.)
The Blur launcher is same 'ol, same 'ol. It uses a solid black background for the soft keys and notifications bar (rather than taking advantage of KitKat's transparency support), and it still has that Quick Settings menu on the left (which is redundant now). In addition, Holo Launcher (which I was using) doesn't account for the space used by the softkeys at all, making it difficult to use. (I've switched to Nova Launcher, which is working fine.)
I've experienced some weirdness with the application switcher. Sometimes it drops me to the launcher right after displaying the list, and sometimes apps will overwrite another's position on the list, or be dropped from the list entirely without reason (this is always temporary, however - just bring up the switcher again).
Some apps can no longer write to the SD card - or at least not wherever they please. We still have the Files browser, mercifully (but I favor Total Commander anyway, which seems to work perfectly).
The audio quick switch on the lock screen has been removed. Also, the buttons for entering a PIN are smaller.
(Leraeniesh) Under heavy usage, the Razr M may get hotter under KitKat than it did under Jellybean, and may drain the battery more.
(GPIX) Some users have noticed decreased network performance in some apps, such as Chrome or YouTube, while on Wi-Fi and with Wi-Fi power-saving enabled.
(GPIX) Several users have reported popping noises - when a sound begins to play, or in the middle of playback. (I haven't experienced it, however.)
Swype is no longer included. If you used it in Jellybean, you will need to purchase it on the Play Store after taking the OTA.
(ls3c6) Some have encountered problems with sharing the address book to paired devices over Bluetooth.

Xperia Z3+ Nougat Review.....

:fingers-crossed::laugh:
YouTube Link : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cjR2PxJmcsk
ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF THIS ANDROID 7 ON Z3+.
Advantages..
1. Battery is lasting more than MM.
2. Stamina mode comes with 3 level stamina features.
3. Split Screen Apps are awesome.
4. Heating is less, I think they avhieved that by closing the background apps.
5.Camera app doesnt heatup the phone and lasts open till 5 min( I checked for 5 minutes only may be it ll show heating warning after that, I just dont know about it).
6. Now both the wallpaper and lockscreen can be handled easily with the same option WALLPAPER provided at SETTING app.
Disadvantages.
1. The Icons for the apps CONTACTS, MESSAGING, PHONE, CAMERA are so ugly.
2. One cannot go to the homepage by clicking recent navbar and then by clicking at the clear space of the recent apps menu.
3. While phone is locked the phone doesnt react to double tap unlock like it used to be in MM.
4. While the phone is locked the Icons of battery, network, clock etc are placed slightly lower than the Icons placed in the unlocked screen. LOCKING UNLOCKING CREATES AN UGLY LOOK OF MISPLACEMENT OF THESE ICONS.
5. The Battery icon in the status bar is too weird. ( Doesnt like it look).
6. The Data traffic indicator ( the small arrows up and down are way too small, the indicator which shows below 2g, 3g, H+ and LTE on the status bar)
7. They removed the option of selecting the FOCUS MODE in the camera app.
8. I compared the pictures taken by my phone when its in LP, MM AND N, I must say in LP this phone used to capture photos brilliantly, in MM the pics are somewhat lower than LP. But in N the pics quality are not upto marks. I think thats all because of this focus thing. Now the phone focus the way it wants to).
9. Remove/ Quit apps wisely, I am downloading some apps from UC BROWSER and then I exit the app and keep the downloading in the background but when I cleared the app from the recent apps list just to make my recent app section to look empty, it stopped my downloading too and the APP UC BROWSER was completely shut. (This option is in LP TOO BUT NOT IN MM) So close apps wisely.
11. They abandoned the small apps, Yes they are there but not easily accessible, now accessing small apps are quit pain in the ASS.
12. The apps in the Recent apps looks very big.
13. New quick tiles are good but one cannot direct shut data from there.
Thats all dear Fellas, I like the UI OF MM more than this N.
I THINK SONY JUST BAKED THIS N FOR US IN HURRY.
If I missed anything than please guys you can add that on your comments.
I really think the Android N update is very good for this device. Camera quality has improved in N - try some low light shots - noise is much lower. The UI is very fluid.
For my device not update notice for now...but I see that in Russia update is out in these days...
So, for now I can't comment about N on my Z3+...but thank you very much for this thread...I hope more users tell opinions about this new update...
I would like to learn more about:
- camera is more fast or not, compared to MM? About picture quality seems the two different opinions are contrary..so, other user opinion about camera?
- N as it looks in terms of reactivity on our device?
- Audio? From speakers and in headset? There are some new optimizations or similar?
Thanks in advance to all

Using Nougat Indian Firmware
Advantages-
1. Camera quality is better
2. Split screen
3. Smooth Ui
4. Performance Enhancment
5. Battery backup improved
6. Brightness dim Issue in sunlight is fixed upto great extent
7. Heating issue is much more solved
Disadvantages ( Huge list but Listing major one)
1. Touch issue (Lackness in touch sensitivity)
2. No manual Focus in Camera Menu
3. Sound Quality reduced (Vibrations in back panel)
4. Can't download apps frome playstore in Roaming.
5. Now we have to double tap to activate data from notification bar
So, its better to push updates for fixing these problems. I hope sony would release updates.
Number 4 and 5 from @ag_themes list are customisation dependent. Both are not present in Russian Nougat that also was on servers before withdrawal.
Also I don't have any touch issues. The sound problems mentioned are the main reason of update withdrawal.
Btw. No overheating is probably connected with reduced usage of a57 cores. Nougat uses them rarely comparing to marshmallow (some report says they are disabled in nougat).
Can someone upload Russian fw? I want to flash it
Using Android Nougat on India Version
Split Screen is advantage (but not many app support however you can force them to)
Slightly more responsive ( like 5 percent)
camera is same (with an added option in manual mode)
audio is also similar
i feel battery consumption when device is used is same ( maybe doze helps when phone is in sleep but i didnt notice much improvement)
My device hanged once (in youtube app). Restarted itself after 5 mins.
Indirect access to small apps ( i never really used them)
{
Other things such as detailed (two taps to toggle) mobile data , wifi and bluetooth. Displays important things on settings , NOtification quick reply these are android N features sony didnt mess with
}
I feel its an simple upgrade of API . Everything else is similar to MM.

Nope, not true. With out bootloader unlock, it is impossible to root the device.
IOVYROOT will get temp root access to backup the TA Partition, but after reboot, the device loses the root access. It is only for taking backup, you can not modify the system. If you try to modify the system with temp root access, your device will be dead after reboot.
