[Q] Notification security prompt every time smartwatch reconnects to phone - Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a European Snapdragon Note 4 on the current official 5.1 update which is paired to a Garmin Vivoactive smartwatch, the smartwatch uses an app called Garmin Connect which runs on the phone and pushes anything in the notification bar to the watch. It's all worked flawlessly until the Android 5.1 update after which the phone and watch regularly lose connection and will not automatically reconnect (works fine if the watch goes out of range and comes back into range), I have to manually connect the two by opening the app, waiting for the two to connect at which point the phone pops up a warning that Garmin Connect needs access to my notifications even though it shows as having access already. Unticking, reticking then accepting the warning works but is obviously irritating when this is happening several times a day. There was an update for the Connect app today which I've applied but it's made it worse as the phone no longer prompts for the notification access, instead I have to go into settings and untick/retick again.
I've asked on the Garmin forums as well although since this only happened on the Android 5.1 update it suggests the fault is with the phone, any suggestions to get around this problem and stop having to keep resetting the notification security? I use Nova launcher which also has access to the notification panel although it's not reporting any problems.
Thanks,
John

Annoyances and bugs in Xperia X2 MR2-Release [Updated 3 July 2010]

Hi all!
I started again a new thread where i write down my findings in the MR2 release of the X2. It's originally on the Esato-forums, so i just put the link over here:

YEp, and having the phone on silent does not make things better either...
Fix
i used registry editor and changed the value of calldrop from p(play) to none.
Rene,
when you hear 3 tones after call finish - is bluetooth activated in this moment for your x2? For example, do you use BT connection to your X2 in your car (handsfree)? Do you think that there is some special requirements for BT headset using to generate this sound on main unit if call was finished?
when you see bad power consumption results - is wifi activated in communication manager in your X2? I think that if you activate wifi - it can be reason for huge additional current if unit can't find appropriate wifi network for some reason.
For example, I found that if I activate wifi - I always should connect unit to charger every day. Then I found that this is specific issue only for me. The specific way of my wifi using is followed - I use 2 different wifi connections to my X2 (on home - secured network through router and in office - open wifi network). I do have connection issues every morning in office and every evening in home. Even if my X2 reports that it's connected to office network - I can see in status bar in Today screen that it's trying to conect again and again - and also I can't use browser or Goggle maps because no data connection is available through wifi. After I power off/on my unit - it can really connect to office wifi network and I can use browser and receive mails e t.c. When I return to home, I see that unit still be connected to office network - but it's impossile. And again - I can't use browser or receive mails by using my X2. After I power off/on unit - it can connect to home network. I can't fix issues in office and in home just turn off/on wifi in communication manager - issue still be actual after this. So, what I do every day - I turn off/turn on my unit every morning after arrive to office and again power on/ power off unit every evening when arrive home So I should spent 2 minutes every morning and 2 minutes every evening to reboot unit. On other hands I think that this is step to avoid more serious issues after couple of days of Windows using - you know usially you can see performance degradation after 1 week of using of any WinMob device - looks like this is result of lot of memory leaks, memory corruptions inside MSFT SW.
if we are talking about unexpected password issue or issue when you can't unlock unit by LOCK icon sliding left or right after press on power on button - for me it looks like memory is corrupted in MSFT lock app. As result some password is requested even if user never activates this password for lock screen. But it's clear that in reality, unit doesn't story in memory any password to compare with entered one - otherwise after power off/on sequency unit still ask password from you. But as I see in the same situation with my X2 - after I remove/insert battery and power on unit - I never see again this issue just after unit goes to Idle.
I think that memory, which is used by MSFT Lock code, can be corrupted only in scope of the same Windows process (of cause if memory is isolated for all processes in WinMob - I hope it's true) - so only other MSFT code can corrupt this memory. Do you know about any public forum where we can ask help from MSFT to see in this issue? I never see that Aaron wrote anything about any contacts in MSFT - but I think that MSFT should be also responsible for any product if Windows logo is applyed to device with WinMob?
To reduce the probability of this issue I never use AutoLock and always lock unit by click on Lock icon in Today panel or by long press on right HW kwy (with key sign).

wifi
Hi! I have a similar issue with the wifi that PanichUS described.
The phone sees the network, tells that it's available, but I am not able to connect to it (so I can not do internet browsing, read the emails, etc.)
This happened to me while switching from one network to another, which were in two different places (and the phone was showing the network still available of the place I have already left). But in my case rebooting the phone did not help.
This is not the only case. The same thing also happens to me after I use bluetooth. The phone is connected to the wifi network (I could do internet browsing, etc.), I use bluetooth, and after that I can no more recover the connection. Again it shows that the network is available, but I can not connect to it.
The only thing which helped by now was restarting my house router.
Is the MR2 the last release of the firmware by date? I have bought my phone recently, and for me it seems that it was updated: I have radio, and the theme with grey background (X2 Titan) was activated in the very beginning.
MR2 is last update for X2. Don't wait another update.
Try turn off Wifi in Communication manager before power off and turn on Wifi back in Communication manager after power on.
Wifi
I have discovered that in fact I don't have problem to connect when using an open network, while with the protected one is always an issue.
Reboot of the phone doesn't change anything even if before doing it I switch off wifi in the connections manager and delete all the settings. Nothing - only reset of the router what helps.
I also tried to use other software (Wifi Monster) - the same thing.
The phone is really wonderful, it really has it's spirit with all these panels and generally the interface, but the wifi issue is really annoying!
My advice - don't install Resco Photo manager on X2.
Great app but works very bad on X2.
I instaled older version Resco.Photo.Manager 7.03. This work good.
Wisbaradvance 4.05 is verry unstable, problems and problems.

[Update]Bluetooth Issue, freeze my TAB

hi
Im running the stock JK6 and rooted.
when Im running e.g. the liveview app my phone keeps some kind of freezing after a few minutes, first I tought it is app related but now I revieved my OBD2 scanner for my car and its just the same with the app "torque".
is this a hardware related problem or something wrong with this ROM.
did a HR several times and reflashed the ROM.
Edit: I noticed when bluetooth recieve or send data I cant get any other wireless date like on wifi or on radio.
please help
Seems to be a one time event with the data problem but the main thing keeps annoing me
Have you tried pulling the battery waiting 60 seconds placing the battery back in the phone and then rebooting?
Eh no cause on the galaxy tab the battery cant be removed

I don't Know, but if you have a Bluetooth PAN connection to the internet, then it should be not possible to have another connection to the internet. IP routing to the gateway would be confused if you could.
There are tools that "group" several separate internet connections into one virtual one.
no Im not using a bt PAN to connect the inet, only normal bluetooth data usage
Push
Just only me who is facing this annoing problem?
Same problem with OBD2 :s disable GPS reduc freeze loop. But not fully (30 minutes). Next time i will turn off Data conection.
Every time i've freeze now i see torque try reconnect to OBD2, seem like BT of SGT turned off or time out
I am having the same problem. As long as I have bluetooth turned on, it will hang the Tab within 30 min. All bluetooth connections are definitely gone. Turning off the bluetooth won't help. The only way is to reboot and never turn bluetooth on.
BTW, I have tried connecting LiveView or a normal bluetooth headset. Both cause the same problem.
I am on JK2.
It seems it is bluetooth driver conflicting with any other data connections.
Did a further testing. Disabled Wifi, but doing data communication via 3G network while turning bluetooth on. The tab hangs in a few minutes. Found a process called 'btld' sucking up all the CPU circle.
Any ideas what 'btld' is?
Thought this should not be a hardware problem because bluetooth works fine when all data connections are off and Wifi/3G data works fine when bluetooth is off. It must be some sort of default setting isn't correct. If this is the case, then root would be a must before manually tuning any parameters.
Found root cause. It is actually the SonyEricsson LiveView software causing troubles. After removing, everything goes well.
Checked on SonyEricsson's web site, it seems Froyo is yet to be supported.
try to use WO Webcam B-Lite out of market, you can open a bt connection by pressing activate and then while running, close via taskmanager, voila the freeze begun
I've got galaxy Tab and galaxy S, and torque badly freezes the devices almost every time I exit the application. It cannot be an hardware fault since I use lot of bluetooth devices and always 3g connected, never had issues. Just with torque, and I don't have any "sony liveview" thing.
Reading on the comments of Torque it seems that also other devices have the same freeze issue (especially a phone called "Evo 4G"). Many months ago I sent a mail to the developer explaining the bug but he bumped me away replying that the app is tested and working on GalaxyTab (and obviously it's not true, or he did some mistake in testing). Now lots of people with this Evo 4G are complaining and the developer is trying to fix. let's hope..

7.3.0 update now accepts my GPS.

The root of the last update made me to do many mistakes and I had to initialize my kindle. Again the hard work of installing and tricking old programs that worked well.
All fine until I tried my bluetooth GPS dongle. With the other versions of rom it was rejected as an unsupported device, stopping pairing after a few seconds, needing other utilities to make the pairing stable. Now it paired well, at first try, but on the other side "Bluetooth GPS Provider" by Mobilej.de, the app that used to work, now crash all the time. This app used to work perfectly if installed in the System folder /app and annulling the "Force GPS Position" option, but not now.
Other app with the same name but from Michael Chourdakis(TurboIRC.com), that refused to work with 7.2.3, now runs, although is a more basic program.
Does it happens to someone else?

Yes hello, this exact same thing is happening for me...
Prior to this new firmware update, I had been using a Global Sat external gps with Bluetooth GPS Provider (Mobilej.de) and it had successfully connected and gained location activity, after enabling mock settings with "KFHD xSettings", for use with maps applications (in my case for aviation moving maps Avare & Air Navigation Pro). Now with the recent 7.3.0 update, this no longer works and the Bluetooth provider app immediately has lost connection and is stopped. Additionally, these apps continually tell me that location-provider setting is turned off, even though it is shown as "ON".
Have you found a work around yet for this update? Are you saying that the other app by Michael Chourdakis is working and providing gps connection?
Yes, it fails one or two times to connect, you must insist. Then suddenly, it links and begins to receive coordinates and stay connected properly.
You must let it in the background like the other app.
Now, way to home, I will prove its accuracy...
I forgot the link to the app:
https://dl.dropbox.com/u/54456659/turboirc.btgps.apk.zip or http://ubuntuone.com/3yq3ZJKWIvB7Rss37BFE1k
edit: (thanks to prokennexusa)
hello thanks for the app link!
I just tried it after installing in \system\app folder. it does establish connection and says it receives coordinate information, but when I open map applications they say no location available. Or no GPS service.
Are you getting the same? have you successfully used a gps application with your bluetooth dongle?
It is not necessary to install it in System/app but if it works for you...., Once you see the name of the dongle and the coordinates, you must exit with the home button, not with the arrow one, to make the app run in the background. Edit: no, it doesn't closes by itshelf. Is necesary to stop it in configuration....
Then, sliding down the finger by the upper part of the screen you can see a notification that the GPS is working and an GPS icon near the bluetooth symbol is visible. Edit: No, is the android system who shows that alerts when the navigator(whichever you use) request "location" ...
Yes, I have "Mock locations" activated with "KFHD xSettings" (courtesy of 0xD34D), but it works for me with or without "internal location-provider" set.

I'm testing now the "Alpine quest hiking" app, but by the day I will do with Tom-tom.
The experience has been a bitter relief, as this "Bluetooth GPS Provider"(Turboirc) app seems to be the only remaining solution to tie GPSs and Kindles, but the program hasn't options and loses signal occasionally, just only a second fortunately. Accuracy is good.
-
The "original" "Bluetooth GPS Provider"(Mobilej) behaviour has changed, in doesn't hangs now, only announces that has been closed and, curiously only if you install it normally(not system/app), lets you a feedback with the creator to send him errors. I will prove if he or they can fix it in between.
later I will show more tests....
Route 66 hangs with or without WIFI (I set it off to secure there is no "wifi location") in the precise moment I run "Bluetooth GPS Provider"(turbo irc). With the earlier updates it worked good with "Bluetooth GPS Provider"(movilej.de).
-
It seems that the turboirc version does something wrong when injecting coordinates to the android system.
GPS update 7.3.0 very good .But hope to soon have CM10.1 . Many thanks Hashcode :victory:

^Exactly...I believe I am having the same issue with the turboirc version not feeding gps information. I got it to connect with position initially but does not continually update data in intervals like the mobilej.de version had. As a result, the gps apps get hung up or stop without this feed of coordinate data.
i suppose I will just use my phone in the mean time, until maybe a new firmware update will change this issue!
I've sideloaded Avare, a free superb navigator, for planes!. It doesn't reads the "GPS Provider" app, but neither hangs. Tomtom seems to work, but its raining here and the test must wait to my way home, later.
By car, friends....
hokie152 said: "Exactly...I believe I am having the same issue with the turboirc version not feeding gps information"
Not so easy, it seems some apps see the information and others no. "Alpine quest" works, so the provider app is feeding.
hokie152. If you need GPS to fly, do it as you said by tethering from your phone.............. or downgrade to 7.2.3 and lock updates.....

But be aware of Bluetooth not working properly, yet (Bug)
Definitively Tomtom works with "Bluetooth GPS Provider"(turboirc) on 7.3.0. Has the same glitches every now and then like Alpine Quest, but it brings you to home and alerts you of radars.....
Another bluetooth gps provider named..... BlueGPS4android, installs but I cant make it work:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/bluegps4droid/?source=dlp
Bluegps4android works in my phone, but all versions offered refuse to tie in Kindle.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I've find an app that connects DIRECTLY with the GPS dongle without a provider app. Its name is Trekbuddy, side-loaded from Google Market.
Is a complex program that needs some study, but apparently it works, I don't know if can be used to fly....
To hokie152:
I've installed Air Navigation Pro, and it seems to react and receive some coordinates if you have set "wifi location" with or without wifi. Later I'll take the car and test it. My bluetooth dongle is a cheap and outdated Zaapa Touch(only 5 euros!).
Air Navigation Pro works, but suffers occasionally the same loss of data failures, causing the little plane in the screen turn as a weathervane moved by a whirlwind....But it runs.

I will try connecting Air Navigation Pro using Bluetooth GPS Provider by turboir and see if I have the same results "with or without WIFI". I have seen the little plane before rotate in circles when you stop moving (at zero velocity). It displays your location but has no direction of motion so it cannot hold a proper heading. Thanks!
I mean that I think this program inject coordinates(mock locations) to the system, so its necessary that location services are working, ie the approximate location by wifi used by our Kindle. Happy Fly!

Now I'm making a map of my way to home to test Trekbuddy reading directly from my dongle gps..... to test if it isn't guilty of the glitches.

Notification on watch when disconnected from phone

I've used Tasker to alert and lock my phone when my Moto360 is not connected, and unlock it when it is. What I also want to do is display a message and vibrate on the watch when the connection to the phone is lost. I know there's an app to do this, and I'll go that route as a last resort if I have to. I have a GS4 so no Trusted Devices option like on some of the Motorola phones. Is what I want possible with Tasker or something similar?
Thanks,
Rich
After getting 5.0.1 on my Gear Live, my watch vibrates whenever it loses its BT connection to the phone, and again when it reconnects.
Not sure on the other 1/2 of your question as I use trusted devices and trusted places on my Nexus 5 for that bit...

I got auto bluetooth tethering working, or did I..?

So today I installed my new Eonon GA2185. I was hoping it would be able to tether my phone's internet on bluetooth automatically, without ever having to manually activate bluetooth or hotspot or something like that. It's a mythical function. Some say it's impossible, you'll always have to click at least one button to connect your head unit to the interwebs, some say it's a built in function.
When turning on the radio for the first time and connecting it to my phone's bluetooth I was so desperately hoping it would also borrow its internet, and apparantly it did! There was no wifi network, just bluetooth and I managed to visit some webpages and perform a speedtest (< 1Mb/s, but hey it was something!).
Unfortunately, after customising the unit with all my preferences, apps, accounts and appearances, I lost the bluetooth tethering. It simply stopped working. It only works on wifi now. Anyone know how to get it back or enable it in the first place? I've already reset it to factory settings but that didn't do it.
This unit works on bluetooth 4.0. Does the difference between 4 and 5 matter a lot in this aspect?

Ive got the same problem, I have the same unit as you.
I had it working when I first installed the unit, it just came on automatically when I entered the car. But since a firmware upgrade I cant get it to connect anymore! It was great for Spotify and maps.
If you manage to find a way let me know!
I believe I factory reseted everything again after updating. Then I tried connecting bluetooth first and then WiFi. For some reason that worked (after I rebooted the device, it would turn on wifi but my phone's wasn't broadcasting, and then it automatically switched to bluetooth).
I also noticed that whenever the unit was powered on, an extra setting in my iPhone appeared called 'Ethernet', which apparanly means that it's tethering through bluetooth. Not sure if Android has a similar way of showing.
