I am experiencing very annoying speaker pops on unlocking and relocking the 6p (32GB aluminium) with nothing playing. Anyone else?

Just to confirm you don't mean the actual lock/unlock sound effects do you?
Sounds like a defect to me. I'm not having that issue when I lock and unlock phone.
Did you have the nexus 6 at all? My nexus 6 has an annoying sound upon unlock at times.
Maybe it's a similar sound.

I had this on my Nexus 6 - it was really annoying and seemed to worsen as the battery level dropped. I'm happy to say there's no issues like this on the 6P (for me anyway)
To clarify, it's a sound like the static charge pop on a separates HiFi system when turning on and off.
My n9 did it, although only one the bootloader was unlocked (then again that proved to be faulty and was so poorly implemented that it almost put me off nexus devices).
You're not the only one. I've got the same issue. Been doing it since the moment I turned it on.
Although, I honestly think it's just the lock and unlock sound. I've seen people talking about it on Reddit as well. The only way to change it would be to swap out the unlock and lock.ogg files.
Turn off the screen locking sounds. It's under 'Other Sounds' in the Settings menu.
It is not the stock noises. Perhaps I should've said crackle instead of pop (and now I need a snap!)
So I had what I think you're talking about now that I remember. It happened when I installed double twist and connected the phone via AUX cable to my cars stereo to stream some music. Once I unplugged the phone notification sounds turned into static pops basically. No jingly sounds would play. It took a reboot but seems OK now. I assume you've rebooted tho, so not sure how much help this is lol.

My Nexus 7 keeps muting the speakers and I the only way I can get it out is to turn it off and on again.
When its muted itself (I don't even know how to mute it) the volume rocker display shows the speaker with a line across it (muted).
Sometimes the rocker won't change the the blue volume level bar and sometimes it will allow me to increase the volume level to maximum but the speaker stays in muted mode.
Anybody have any idea what is going on?

I just got this too. I was playing with Tasker at the time, not sure if it's related.
maybe it is a rogue app
I had the same problem (Google brought me here). I was able to fix it by killing media related programs until the sound came back. In my case the culprit was Netflix. As soon as I killed Netflix, the sound came back and I was able to change the volume again. Hope this helps.

I don't have netflix and it still mutes itself? any other ideas?
Does anyone know if it's a specific version of Netflix that causes this to happen? I wonder if it's something they know about and are working on.

Hold down power until you get the power off menu. The last option is called silent mode and it mutes and unmutes the device. Hope that helps

Hi, could you please give instructions on how to "kill media-related programs" as you describe above on the Nexus 7? I would like to try your suggestion, as my Nexus 7 has no sound. I don't have Netflix installed. Thanks.
Hi all,
Currently i'm having an issue. From time to time my speaker emits a loud sound like a pop and it stops working. No sound is emitted after that until i reboot or plug and unplug my headphones. Is this a HW issue or a software issue. Is this a known problem? I tried googling it but got no relevant results.

I own 2 , 1 I already had to replace due to a messed up screen upon delivery. Now both mine and my sons speakers male a crackle sound every now and then. Neither of my tabs have ever been turned up high at all and speaker quality still sounds fine but this really bugs the hell outa me. Anyone have any input on what this may be? (This faint crackle (feedback like) sounds only happens when I'm not using the tabs and nothing is playing)) They have never ran real hot that I'm aware of.. Not real into oc

It's been happening to mine recently, and occurs on a per app basis. If the popping sound happens in one app, no sound will come from that app until I close it from the recent apps menu.

My Nexus 7 gets the pop but only when the screen is off and no sound is playing. It also does not cause any issues or affect audio playback in any way. I've had other mobile devices that have done this and my best guess would be that my device i switching between a low and higher power state or vice versa (scanning for notification updates or entering a sleep state). I often notice it occurs shortly before I receive an email and it only happens when the screen has been off for at least 15-20 seconds.
Some of you clearly have a different problem but given the shared symptom, I'm wondering if it could be rooted in a similar cause.
Hello all,
Very happy with the Note 3 so far, which is no mean feat since I came from an S4.
I have however found an issue which could end up being very annoying. I use my phone for listening to music through a headphone amp and a set of UE Triple-Fi, so I'm sensitive to potential issues. I've found that when the phone is idle (no music playing, no other apps using the sound subsystem) there is a constant and very clear hiss. If I press the volume rocker down for example, it "thumps" and goes quiet for a few seconds, then the hiss returns. Similarly, if I start playing some music (Spotify or Google Music for example) again it thumps and goes as quiet as as I can hear.
Just to make it absolutely clear:
1) there's no hiss when a sound is playing, just when the phone is not outputting anything sound-wise.
2) when going from no sound to an app starting to play a sound, there's a clear, audible click/thump.
So from all the above it doesn't sound (ahem...) like a DAC SNR issue for example, just potentially a software bug. Has anyone else noticed this, are there any fixes?
Thanks!

Yepp, same problem here...and I hate it. I haven´t found a solution yet. The N2 I had before didn´t suffer of this backgroundnoise.
Thanks for replying, at least I know it's not me going crazy! Can anyone else reproduce this, or is it just us? If it's not everyone then we've got faulty devices, at least that has a solution. Thanks!

My laptop does this.
Set the brightness to full. (and turn off auto brightness.)
Also try disabling any battery-savers.
Nope, this doesn't cause it. The problem is there all the time, no matter what battery options I use.
Gesendet von meinem SM-N9005 mit Tapatalk
And changing the brightness to full also has no effect? (That was the main cause on several devices.)
If not, I suspect something else is running in the background. Since it briefly stops when you press the volume keys, it is unlikely to be caused by dust in the headset port. So it has to be an app causing this.
It's still there after the latest updates. I think I might actually take a trip to a Samsung store or just an EE store and see if another Note 3 has the same problem, at least then I know if it's a general issue or if mine's faulty. To be honest, I'm starting to get a bit annoyed with it now just because of this.

Then I have no idea, sorry. My other guess would be is that you're accidentally pressing the volume key in you pocket or something without realizing it. You could try factory resetting the phone. It can sometimes fox weird issued like yours.

have u check the adaptive option under the settings->sound->adapt sound?
Could it be that the adaptive sound is processing at certain point of time trying to give you the best sound that its think of?
Yes, I have experienced this under the following conditions:
-Phone just purchased, unrooted, completely stock. Playing music with PowerAmp with and without the EQ/Tone/Limit features, also happened with stock music app. The effect nearly blew out my eardrums once, but it happened several times. Music would play and very suddenly there would be a violent increase in sound, almost as if an EQ crashed. Sound went back to normal after I pressed the volume rocker in either direction. I am not so sure that this has to do with Adaptive Sound because I remember experiencing the same problem before and after i configured it. Overall, incredibly annoying and dangerous for my ears.
-Phone rooted, Viper4Android installed as a user app. The same problem happens using PowerAmp, Xenoamp and stock music app, but the increase is not so violent (not sure why, yet). Marginally tolerable, but still very annoying.
I have not found a fix yet, but still keeping an eye open.
That being said, my phone has music playing almost all day every day so I probably encounter the problem more often than others. I use earbuds, headphones and my car stereo. There is a Droid-Life.com review that mentions the issue and credits it to the phone's audio jack: http://www.droid-life.com/2013/10/01/samsung-galaxy-note-3-review/
See the subsection for Audio Jack Issues. Here is an excerpt:
"Then, after a few minutes without touching anything while at full volume, the volume just explodes and you are left deafened by the surprise volume attack."
I would be interested to see if anyone reports the problem when playing music via the phone's speaker.

[Update] Looks like this is not an isolated issue. My friend's wife also facing the same problem and she sent in to reflash the unit at Samsung Care Center and the problem just disappear. My friend told me factory reset doesn't help though.
I have exactly the same issue you have. Same XXUBMJ1 ans using the device for a month now. Unknown and just reported to Samsung and was asked to walk in to get advice.
I just got my moto x Pure a few days ago and i noticed when i receive a text message i get this pop noise after the notification sound stops playing. I went in the settings to change the notification sound and as im switching between them they all have a pop noise always after there done playing or sometimes before playing. If i try to change the ring tone it doesn't happen, they start and end fine with no pop noise. I remember having a similuar issue with my nexus 4 and to remedy the situation i would disable touch sounds and vibration but it doesnt seem to help with this phone.
Someone on reddit said he had the same issue. Anyone else experience this ?
Yep. Happens on my too. It's the speaker going online and standby. Happens on all phones, but in Moto X Pure is loud and noticeable. Cheap speaker? Don't know. Also on my, when playing the tone "Zeta" I get bad speaker crackling noise. Specially when volume is high.

i adjusted the bass in the audio equalizer and it seems to help with ring tones like the zeta, at least i think it did.
I dont get the pop noise when i play a youtube video or listen to google music, so its weird to me.

Thank you for posting this. Now I know I'm not the only one with the problem. I was worrying I'd have to do an RMA, but maybe this'll be fixable with a software update.
Didn't even notice the crackling until I specifically listened for it. Now I can't unhear it. Ughh! This is going to drive me nuts. Similar issue with my N6. Playing music or videos there is no problem. Just notifications and ringtones.

Pretty sure they are. I have both though. I notice the pop very easily at night. I have a few apps set to priority, so they'll ring even when I'm sleeping. Last night I got a couple notifications and definitely heard an audible pop about a second after the tone stopped playing. It seems like it happens when power is being cut to the speaker.
My Nexus 6 had similar QC issues. The phone stopped detecting SIM cards about a month after I bought it. Moto sent me a replacement which I sold because it was NIB. Beginning to worry that Lenovo is cheaping out a bit too much on their flagships.
I don't have my phone in hand yet so...has anyone tried some third party ringtones or notifications? The reason I ask is because I imagine it's possible that the default recorded sounds may have some type of silent space after the "music" or the sound stops causing this. Maybe somebody can try a few home made ones to see if it still happens.
Yes i tried third party notification sounds. Same thing happens
Anyone else affected by this bug
Getting the pop noise as well. It's very noticeable. I'll hold off for awhile and see what Moto does about the issue.
I've got it as described above. Sounds like power coming on and then cutting off. Reminds me of powering on and off an old boombox from the 80's.

I have no POP noise at all. As I said before I think it has to do with the earliest batches that were delivered. Even though I ordered on the second day of pre-order I received mine several days after many others. Maybe I got mine from a second, or later batch?? No speaker distortion either even at full volume!
Decided to return it and get another one. Maybe I just got one of the bad batches. I also had a small scratch on it right out of the box. Would've ignored the scratch if everything else was good... but I can't unhear the speaker crackles and pop.
waiting now for return authorization for this problem, which is a little hairy because I'm not the original owner. I do have the receipt though--shouldn't the warranty transfer?
That pop noise very noticable when using viber...
Also try to press keyboard keys and put the speaker closer to the ear... Its like speakers are turn on/off ...
yeah, it's the amplifier shutting off. happens on crappy laptop soundcards too usually. pretty much all of them have it.
