Loose buttons? - X Style (Pure) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just wondering if anyone has slightly loose buttons. As in, if I tap them lightly I get a tiny metal on plastic sound as if it the button itself wasn't attached to the sensor on the inside.
I'd like to have a perfect device but I'm afraid of RMAing and getting a screen issue or something worse.

Yeah I noticed that too, not really an issue. Also if you press lightly on the power button wothout activating it you can feel it spring back...just an fyi

is the volume button springy as well? just trying to make sure I got a defect-free phone. I haven't had a phone yet with springy side buttons. Seems like they might not last that long??

Not like the power button.

Mine are loose as well but I think it's common across many devices. I've had loose volume and power buttons on my Note 4, Moto X 2014, and even the HTC One M9. I've checked on these occasionally and have been told that a little "play" in the buttons is normal.

Volume button is loose

Today I noticed that the Volume button is loose. Is this normal?
My Touch HD's Volume button is firmly in place.
How loose? Might has a little give in it but i wouldnt call it loose.
It's quite loose, I can move it with slightest touch .
My volume up button didn't work out of the box. There are a couple of threads about the problem but no solution that I saw other than take it back for a replacement which is what I did this week.

Thanks for your input. Anyway my volume button works fine, but it's just loose. I'm not sure I can get a replacement for this reason.
there is supposed to be a little "play" in all of the buttons. Its the same with PSP, DS and other portable gadgets. With a little give they won't break as quickly if they get snagged on clothing for example because they are not rigid and consequently have a little bit of "give". Hope that makes sense!
My first one had a solid volume button, the button on my replacement is very loose. Whether they will all get looser over time is another question...

Faulty volume button.

Has anybody have the same problem I have with the DHD volume button? My device has the bottom part of the button jutting out a little bit, and I am worried it might fall off. I have only had this phone for 2 and a half weeks, so before considering an exchange, has anybody had the problem and fixed it? I would hate to take the button off and not be able to put it back on properly.
Can you take pic and upload it?

I had the same problem. I sent mine back to Phones4u after about a week.
Whether it would have fallen off or not, I don't know - but as mine was like that after a week or so I didn't want to take any chances.

Here are the pictures, hope they're good enough quality.
Mine's the same, it's going back when vodafone get more stock.
I also noticed the top of the screen clicks and creaks as if its loose.
Mine is the openmarket version and vodafone only have the branded handsets in stock anyone know the difference?
Just return it.
Hi all,
I've my phone about a month now and I have almost the same problem with the volume button.
Actually it isnt that bad as the pictures above but you can definetally feel that the vol-down button sticks a litle bit out while the vol-up is very hard to press.
(The powerbutton is also hard to press but that seems to be with everyones phone)
It seems HTC is very bad in making hardware buttons, I had also button problems with my Touch HD and my HD2!
What do you recommend me? Should I return it or not?
Ps for htc maybe:
The main reason why htc makes hard to press (power) buttons is to avoid acitentally turning the device on/off while its in your pocket or wathever.
I have a solution, make good easy to press CAPACTIVE (power) HARDWARE buttons.
I think that should solve a lot of problems
The bottom bit of the volume button comes out a bit too on mine but not that far!

From the pictures, i had the exact same problem. On day one, i was so happy to have the phone i looked passed it ( it was the very slightest bit sticking out ), then eventually a week later it really started coming loose, when you press volume up for example the bottom of the button would literally pop out and dangle.
In the end i arranged for a replacement the next day as i was illegible as i only had, had the phone for a week. What struck me is the elastics holding the volume rocker in place? thats the last thing i'd expect something made out of "metal" to be locking it in place.
Hi all,
i have the same problem. the volume rocker is not sticking to much out but you can definitely feel the difference between the upper and the lower side of the button. the upper side is like pushed in and kind of hard to press and you don't fell the "click" when you push the vol up. the lower side i slightly sticking out but you can fell the "click" when you push the vol down.
how do yours fell when pushing vol up?
i don't know if i should replace the device or not???
here are some pics of my problem
thanks

I returned mine and I think you should too.
Works perfectly now, but not sure if it can last 20 months as my old one broke so early. Taking the greatest of care whilst touching the volume rocker now. Kinda sad that a device so expensive has quite a few cosmetic flaws.
Exact same issue with mine i dabbed some super glue ont he plastic and the metal. Its alot better now. Seen new buttons on ebay, has anyone tried these yet? How do you install them?

In the picture you attached, the volume key lok in the correct place. However, the Aluminum or battery cover is not in the correct shape. I can see some distortion.

Hard to press volume buttons?

Coming from a Galaxy Nexus, my volume buttons seem incredibly unresponsive and hard to press, especially the volume down button. Anyone else notice this? I'm wondering if it's a consistent hardware issue or if it's worthwhile to try and do an exchange.
Do you mean that the button would not depress, or that you can press the button but the phone does not register the press? If the latter then you must have a defective unit since I can get presses to register every time. I came from a Galaxy Nexus too and while the volume buttons on the N4 have more resistance I don't think they are that hard to press.

The button depresses, but barely, and I have to press pretty hard. It doesn't have the same "click" feedback as most phones -- it just feels like I'm mashing it. I'm guessing it's just my phone since I haven't read anything else about it. Hooray for quality control
Edit: on the plus side, in case anyone else is in the same situation, I just called Google and the replacement process seems pretty painless.
Sorry for bumping a relatively old thread. I'm in the same situation with one of my two N4s. In comparison, the volume buttons on one of the phones are really hard to press. I've called Google three days in a row and they said they would email me the instructions for replacement, but I still haven't received anything from them. I was wondering how long did the exchange process take for you?

[Q] Nexus 4 Power Button Quick Question!

Hey guys,
I just received my Nexus 4 and it seems everything is great. The only thing I am iffy about is the power button on this phone. It always comes on when I press it so it is completely functional, it's just it feels a little stiff.
If I move my finger or thumb to press it on one side or another, it doesn't click. I actually have to press it somewhat in the middle for it to click. Does anybody else have this issue? The power button works fine but it just feels funny I guess.
If anybody has a quick answer that would be great to prevent myself from doing a OCD-SELL on Kijiji
i have the same issue. But I think this is a feature, not a bug It prevents the phone from getting unlocked in your pocket.

I have a suggestion: Try sliding the power button from the top to the bottom. I've found pressing it directly is difficult but sliding it is much easier. I'm also holding it with my left hand so I'm using my index finger.

Button problems

My first N6P was almost perfect: great screen etc. However, the volumebutton is loose and rattles. Today I got my replacement which has a perfect volumebutton. However, the powerbutton on this one is much deeper into the body and hardly sticks out, making it hard to press it all the way.
Photographs: https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B6XWtmGx6H7UVGFYSkE4WWxHZG8&usp=sharing
Number 1 is the N6P with loose volume button, number 2 is the N6P with too deep powerbutton...
Anyone had something familiair? How are your buttons?

Mine looks like number 2. Nice stiff volume buttons and and short/deep power button. My power button did feel weird to press at first but over time seemed to become normal. I have had mine without issue since the beginning of December.
My powerbutton is deep too. Volume perfect.
Return it. My first 6P came with a loose non clicky volume button. My replacement's button is perfect now.
