What do you use the NP for? I bought it on impulse last week ($39 from Adorama). I haven't opened it, so I could gift it for Christmas. I have a Fire TV stick with Kodi installed, and I use a Xbox to watch Netflix/Hulu/Youtube/Amazon Prime. I don't use PLEX. How do you use your rooted NP?
netflix & kodi here.
don't see the need to root yet as I need a usb otg and k/m to control the process and get cm on the unit.
then I might give it to my dad
thanks for the reply. I was thinking of rooting it, but installing Sideload Launcher and ES File Explorer might be enough use.
I rooted mine. I have SNES and PSX emulators and needed to remap the ASUS Gamepad to get Start button.
Also, use it for Netflix, HBO, YouTube, Kodi, Local Media on network, Live Channels via HD Homerun Prime. I have it set with ethernet connection and it makes it better than the Fire TV Sticks (I've had few myself and ended up selling them).
I have the Nexus Player set up in my bedroom on my 32" 1080P wall mounted flat screen. I picked mine up for $49.00 at my local Walmart. I also picked up the official game pad / controller as well as a Logitech K400 Plus wireless keyboard / track pad combo. (Newer version of original K400)
I primarily use mine for streaming Netflix, YouTube, HBO GO, FX Now, and Google Chrome. HBO GO has to be sideloaded but it works great with the Logitech K400 Plus. (So does Google Chrome) It's nice to be able to lay in bed and use my favorite apps, as well as browse the web on Google Chrome. I also have a couple emulators installed so I can play some classic Super Nintendo and Playstation games as well.
I am still surprised at all the Nexus Player can do! Here are the Accessories that I use:
Kirin micro USB OTG 3-Way Powered (I like this better than daisy chaining a micro USB OTG adapter to a USB Hub):
http://www.amazon.com/Charging-Char...UTF8&qid=1446067057&sr=8-1&keywords=kirin+otg
Logitech K400 Plus:
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/searchp...t=n&iht=y&usc=All+Categories&ks=960&keys=keys
Nexus Player / Asus Game Pad:
http://www.walmart.com/ip/Nexus-Player-Game-Pad-TV500BG/43172616
Mushkin Ventura Plus 64GB Flash Drive:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...hkin_Ventura_Plus_64GB-_-20-226-378-_-Product
The micro USB OTG 3-way works great. I have the dongle for the keyboard and the 64GB flash drive for extra storage hooked up at all times. I then have the extra USB for when I want to hook to my laptop or add a file from a different flash drive. I don't use it powered currently because it is not needed, but it is there if needed.
I did not buy the Mushkin 64GB Flash Drive specifically for the Nexus Player. I just happened to have it laying around. It does work great and I receive no error messages when hooking up / using it.
kodi all the way
lol many things, mine isnt rooted as of yet, running its version of 6.0. using it for Netflix, Youtube, emulators, android games (off the play store and amazon Underground). Mostly love seeing what it can and cant do, seems to have issues running 3dMark and a few benchmarks. but otherwise runs fine. doesnt have enough cpu to do PPSSPP justice though :< also have Kodi on it, as well as Pluto TV

how does this work for navigation in kodi & the stock launcher?
pretty easy to browse chrome with this thing?

The Logitech K400 Plus is working great with the Nexus Player. It can easily be used to navigate the stock launcher. The arrow keys are your up, down, left, right. Enter is "select" and esc is "back". When you touch the track pad a mouse pointer appears. You can use that to navigate as well. You can either tap the pad to "select" or "enter" or you can just hover over what you need and click the physical button. (Just like on a laptop) It works great in chrome as well! I have had no issues in with it in chrome. Just go in the chrome settings (three dots) and activate the tabs. It works just like a phone or tablet, except you have a mouse pointer and full keyboard. No different than using chrome on a laptop. Some of the shortcuts on the keyboard work as well. Like back and home.
Is it ironic that I am responding to this using my Nexus Player, on Chrome, with my K400 Plus? lol
doh, I just noticed this is still usb wireless so I would still need an OTG cable to convert.
maybe I can make my own as I have a lot of spare usb cables laying around and a soldering pen =-)

An OTG cable is definitely a solid investment. I was using an OTG Cable that consisted of Micro USB to 3x USB Female and also had a seperate input for power. Worked great! I am now using an OTG HUB that I got off of Amazon. It is a small hub that uses Micro USB for input and it has 3 USB Ports, SD / Micro SD card input / reader, and power input. It is awesome! I currently have a Samsung Evo 64GB MicroSD card in it. I swear it seems faster than when I used a USB Flash Drive but I could be wrong.

Media consumption. And it does a helleva job at it too. The apps you use on your Xbox are faster and better on the Nexus Player. Netflix for instance is better on the Nexus Player than the Xbox One app.

I did this same thing. I don't know what I'm going to do with it just yet, but it was too good of a deal to pass up.
I figured maybe I'll try out emulators on it. I have an OTG cable so I can hook up a flash drive to it.

I know there are videos of XBox 360 and Playstation controllers working with the Transformer and 3.1, but has any one here actually got it working?
I have the dock, and have tried two different generic usb2 game controllers (PS3 style), and have tried both ports on the dock, but I dont get any notification pop up or menu options in settings, and none of my games react to the controller inputs?
am I missing something?
cheers.
Hey there. I just got fpse, an emulator app that allows you to play PS1 games on various devices. I just plugged in my PS3 controller and it began to work flawlessly on my transformer after i had assigned keys to the different buttons within the app. No notification came up after plugging in, so i dont know if the controller can be used just like that (i.e. moving the mouse around on the home screen , etc)
Edit: i can move the homescreen around with the directional pad as well as the left joystick, but it is very delayed and buggy
the PS3 controller works, and most USB gamepads should. Xbox 360 one does not right now. Asus bug.
however, outside of emulators and cordy most games have no gamepad support.
best way to test is to download cordy or side load an emulator and go into the key binding. if you can bind a key to the controller then it works.
I have Cordy, I'll give that a go later, Thanks.
(I have tried it in Pocket Racing and Meganoid with no luck though.)
Tried my USB game pad with Cordy last night but no luck.
guess i'll have to try a PS3 controller if I can borrow one.
I don't have a dock. Does PS3 controller work via bluetooth?
My wiimote works great by using the app - WiimoteController via bluetooth connection.

No, it has to be plugged into one of the USB ports on the dock.
tried my xbox360 controller and it didn't work..the green ring on the controller kept blinking and none of the keybindings would work..
then I tried my other generic gamepad (still xbox360 style), D-PAD seems functioning but button 5-9 and LT/RT didn't..
haven't tried ps3 controller yet..but heard one of my friends said it works flawlessly
No bluetooth connection? That's so stupid! I have to sit very close to my lcd TV if I export my eeepad via hdmi.

Very stupid too! Why wiimote can do this but ps3 or xbox controller don't? They suppose to use similar bluetooth technology. Am I right? Now this update is useless for me and other tablets which don't have an usb port. It sucks!

Not sure if anyone wants one of these but I got one for an upstairs TV and its SWEET! Turned the older TV into a smart TV. Android 4.1, Full wifi, Netflix (my main reason for getting it, wasn't pre-installed though, had to install it myself) and so on. Basically turns your TV into a huge tablet. Just need an HDMI port on your TV and a USB port for power (it does have a separate USB power supply if you don't have a USB on your TV)
I used a bluetooth dongle with it and connected a keyboard and mouse and it's awesome. Also has an OTG cable and port to plug in a portable HDD, thumb drive, etc. Turned our bedroom TV into a complete media center. Very cool.
Cost $68 on Amazon (plus $2 for a BT dongle through deal extreme and used an older bluetooth keyboard/mouse combo thing I l already had). I also stuck a 32BG micro SD card in it but don't really see using it much (maybe if I install a million apps), just thumb drives to watch downloaded movies. All in all, it turned out great. Turned an older TV into a smart TV with wifi, internet access, and a drive reader on it.
Looks good on paper. How good does it perform???
Does anyone else have this???

I have an MK808. You can use a USB keyboard and mouse or pick up an wireless Air Mouse for like $20. The Air Mice are like Wii Motes that use gyros and have built-in keyboards. Amazon has tons of models. I like the Messy RC11 cause it feels goo in hand.
I bought mine to tinker and mostly play emulators on the TV. The 808 plays FPse games petty good. Some newer units have said to be faster.

Good night. I started this post to share with you all hardware usb devices that i have tested and worked without problem into OUYA.
First, i get an usb host with 5 usb ports , because ouya just have one standard usb port,
Usb .host worked without problem, and connected to it:
Keyboard and wireless mouse: i have tried 3 different models of keyboard + mouse wireless combo and all worked very well. Instant response and now i can navigate trought ouya like in Pc hihi
Usb memory sticks: I tried 1gb capacity, and also 4,8,16 and 32gb and all worked witount problems. Take note that you first need to install any file manager to get into usb contents.
Xbox 360 wireless controller: as its seems not to pair, if you use it into any emulator you can pair and configure buttons with it
I tried to use my Logitech g930s and it actually detected it and it allowed to Moro reduce and increase the system volume. Sadly I couldn't hear anything out of them. I might try again some other time.
Glad to hear that multiple USB Devices are working with Ouya.
OP, the Xbox 360 controller is NOT Bluetooth, though the Wii/WiiU/PS3 controllers are.
Sabrent 32' active USB extender works
Logitech Trackman Wheel works
Logitech unifying receiver and MX515 couch mouse work, but is registered as controller 1 at boot. It locked up the OUYA when first tried hot plugging it in to extender. Works when installed before boot, and had been paired by PC.
Belkin 4 port USB hub works plugged in to active 32' cable with trackball and 2gb USB stick. Hot swapped after wireless mouse was unplugged from ouya. wireless Mouse works connected through hub on reconnect. Pushed it with a 32gb stick, which was not recognized. Rebooted and 32gb stick was recognized but not 2gb. Both mice worked but controller still shows up as 2 even though I turned off the mouse when booting.
So what is a good USB game controller available cheap? It is now the end of two business weeks that I requested a replacement controller and I still haven't received it

Toshiba 1tb capacity, in NTFS format and helped by an app called "Paragon NTFS&HFS+" worked witout problem, so ouya also has compatibility with high capacity ntfs formatted hard drives ))

Best USB controller hands down is the wired version of the Xbox 360 controller. In the UK its about £20. Very long cable on them with a breakpoint which is handy for kid sisters running through your room. Functions fine under android and windows, can be gotten to work on other Linux systems and Macs fine too. £20 from other brands seems to get you nothing in comparison. Also makes a good club for hitting people when they beat you although the wireless controller has more heft to it so is a bit better there
Nkte, common mistake I have seen people do. Do not buy the play and charge kit for a regular wireless controller thinking it allows you to use it via USB, it doesn't. Also the proper USB reciever for a wireless 360 controller doesn't work correctly on android systems.
Otherwise, Logitech might be your best bet but I personally swear by the wired 360 controllers. Hopefully when the one is released the 360 controllers will have a price crash, I'll probably stock up on a handful more.
I can confirm the PS3 Sixaxis Controller is working!
EDIT: Bluetooth & Wired-connection works fine.
Cool! We have now xbox360 and ps3 sisaxis fully working!!
I have a ps3 media remote but cant get the ouya to see it. Anyone else try this yet?
Update: I was able to see the remote under bluetooth devices but it asks me for a pin number. didnt see one in the manual
Does the xbox 360 wireless adapter (for PC) work for Ouya ?? I got one queued up in my Amazon cart but trying to get some feedback first. Wired 360 controller works great, acts just like an Ouya controller. Wiimote with Wiimote Controller is hit or miss on my programs. Don't have access to any PS3 controllers, but have lots of 360 controllers lying around.

Can you be more specific? So many threads are filled with poor information or redundant information. It would be great if we could all provide as much information as possible. The point of this thread is to inform others of what does and does not work so that they we don't all have to repeat the same trial and error process.

Yes it does. I cannot compare with a wired one, but for me it is working. The support on the games is not 100% but I dont think that this is a a receiver fault more than a implementation thing. AFAIK there are different input management APIs on ODK. It seems that some games uses hardcoded keycodes instead of new OUYA API for controller compatibility.
For exmplae, in Stalagfligt, none PS3 nor Xbox works, Ice Rage only works with PS3 controller and SCi-Fi fighters with Xbox one.

Did you try 1234 or 0000? Those tend to be standards for pairing.

Hi guys, does anyone know if there's a way to alter the button functions of a USB mouse? I'm using a standard Dell mouse and left, right and middle click are all set to tap, it'd be nice to map right and middle click to different functions if possible, like back and menu.
Are the button functions baked in to the ROM? Or does it depend on which mouse you're using? I had a quick look for mouse button mapping apps but couldn't find anything, it was all virtual mouse apps for controlling PC etc.

Not Much From Me, But . . .
It is an Android tablet, and it can do what most any Android tablet can do, and faster. I mostly use mine for taking notes and reading/studying. Don't play many games. Video playback is great. Surfing the Internet likewise. Speakers are loud. This thing is fast. Download the AnTuTu benchmark app from the play store and impress your friends. I've been using mine everyday for over a month. No complaints. Enjoy.
It can basically chew through any game you throw at it, and I personally use it for a lot of note taking as well for work. I also use it to watch movies at my desk at work as well.
Connect to your TV wirelessly using an EZCast dongle so you can stream movies etc.
Connect to your TV using a micro HDMI cable, then connect a keyboard and mouse via Bluetooth and you can use it like a little PC. Or you can connect a USB OTG cable to the micro USB port and plug in a keyboard, a mouse, a game controller, or the dongle for a wireless keyboard/mouse combo set and do the same thing. You can also plug in a USB hub to the tablet via a USB OTG cable, then plug things like a mouse or a hard drive into the USB hub....all while the tablet is connected to a TV.
You can also use the magnets in the back to stick it to a fridge. Your life is now complete.
Play some GTA like games with MAX graphics setting!!! Watch movies over wifi, no need to copy onto sd card, this tab has very very goooood battery performance when wifi is on!!!!
I tried 4 controllers and 2 cables but the shield never recognizes it. Is there something special I need to do?
2 cables?? What controllers are you using? Wireless?
Note that the charging cable is only a charging cable there is no data at all. X360 Wireless controllers can only be used on PC or Android devices with the PC receiver Microsoft sells.
Lmfao really?. I've never seen another cable for the 360 to be honest so I assumed that was it. So what's the name of the cable I need?
So I guess I need to get the wireless dongle then huh
Yes if you have wireless controllers they only work on Xbox, for other devices you need the receiver. Wired controllers yes they work without any configuration or addon equipment.
As I said the cables you attach in the front of the controller are only for charging purposes nothing else. Even when you plug it to the xbox and use it, it charges the batteries only the connection is still done via wireless.
Yea I understand, I never had a wired controller so I had no idea.
I don't need that $30 new adapter right?
I see people saying $5-10 ones on ebay, do they mean these?
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Wireless-Re...374663?hash=item51cb8d2047:g:RYIAAOSw8d9U1Hyt
Yes those are the chinese ones. I cannot ensure you that they will work straight out of box. I read some posts where people add to edit files to use i on Android. Don't know if its true or not. MS ones are much more expensive but they work fine without tweaks but they are also rare. One possibility is you sell one of your remotes for a good buck and buy the combo remote + receiver. I bought one recently for around 40€ but I had only one remote at home.
Which games are you planning to use it on? Full android TV someone reported today that some Android games are not fully compatible because of the Dpad location. I'm guessing some games need a joystick there like the PS3 remotes have. I'm using mine attached to the PC and I use it to play streaming games only, range is quite good on that receiver. For Android games I will probably use the BT ipega gamepad I bought 1 year ago or droidmote
I will use it on some old retro games with friends. Mario kart, tecmo bowl etc. No games too crazy.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Microsoft-X...166510?hash=item3abd5e23ae:g:FFYAAOSwezVWvgTa
This one is official microsft, guess I will get this one
Yap that's an original one. Happy gaming.
the USB cables for the wireless controllers are ONLY for charging.
I know its stupid but theres nothing you can do except getting a wireless adapter.
I got a receiver, ordered it today
Just get the 360 wired controller.

I can confirm that the 360 pad is not fully compatible with some AndroidTV games. Specifically, Portal and Half-Life 2 won't accept input from the d-pad. It has nothing to do with the physical location of the pad, as it should show as a "POV Hat" regardless of its physical location. It just doesn't work for some reason.
...which is a shame, because the Shield controller is rubbish.
