Have a 910H. Regions seem to matter a lot. Why? - Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a 910H and I've tried to flash other region firmware but have had problems getting the flashes to actually complete. I had to repack one to use it.
IN any other Samsung device I've owned, the region didn't matter much at all.
Is the Note 4 different?
I'm looking for a Panama 5.1.1 ROM, but the only one released is a 910C variant ROM.

I even posted in that thread with the response that region does not matter, because that had been my experience in the past, but when I flashed another region firmware, it got stuck at the MODEM portion and never completed. I first thought it was a bad download, so I tried several times, but eventually, I had to repack it to get it to work.
So, as I understand it, you are saying that region really doesn't matter after all and that maybe what I experienced was a fluke?

Hi, my answer is strictly based on my experience using the firmware provided on the download link in post # 50th, I have not tried other because I've read that other people did not succeed flashing the firmware provided on the other download links on previous post .

[Q] Want to flash to BTU - help needed

Hi All
Just had an upgrade to the Note 3. It was originally locked to 3 mobile but I have unlocked to use on O2. I'd like to get rid of the 3 mobile splash screen etc.
I've read through a few of the posts on here and I'm unsure as to how to go about doing the flash. I'm confused over the Knox thing. I am only wanting to flash the firmware not root.
Please can someone point me in the right direction......?
from what i have heard and what ppl have tried you will need to flash the SAME regions firmware as the one that came with your phone by default.. BTU has the region code "XX", so you will have to check to see your region code.. go to about phone and check it will something like this, "ZHUDMJ1 or XXUBMJ1".. the first 2 letter are the region code "ZH" and "XX" are just examples, your region code maybe different than those 2.. you can flash a different countries firmware if it has the same region code as yours

thank u for lighting me up about what firmware we need to flash to our note 3...
just want to ask if it's possible to flash this new firmware e.g XXUBMJ6
over to my rooted note 3 XXUBMJ1 and how?..help much appreciated
Anyone?
When I flashed one of the original Knox safe rooted firmwares, it inadvertently changed my CSC.
I have managed to get it back to what it should be, but the key is to use the same version as the one currently on the phone.
At the time it was MJ1 that was installed on my phone, and it was only variants of that version I used to get back to normal. The problem is when someone tries to downgrade. It wasn't really an exact science to getting it back to BTU either. More of a trial and error thing. I flashed, BTU firmware, wiped, opened recovery to check the CSC status, it still showed the wrong one, flashed again, loaded the phone up into the setup (as the phone gets wiped when changing CSC) was still bringing a foreign setup process, wiped and flashed again checked recovery and eventually it ended up where it should be.
So I think you should be able to debrand and the CSC with it to get official updates. But since they released the Note 3, flashing has become greater risk.

[Q] Another-CSC based ROM flashing can make problem?

Hello, I am using SM-N9005 32GB, Black.
First, I am sorry cause my English is not good.
I bought from internet shop this, when I ordered EU region product, but I just received XME(Malay).
I want to flash a ROM DBT(Germany) or other EU countries, but I am afraid to make any problem by flashing another CSC-based ROM. Can it make any problem(KNOX Warranty, Hard-brick or other problems...) by flashing another CSC-based ROM?
If it doesn't make problem, I will flash EU region ROM.
and, any requirements for change another-CSC based ROM(Rooting etc...)?
Please help me.
From what I have read (may not be 100% right!), changing CSC doesn't do anything to your phone eg, Trip KNOX etc, unless you flash a custom ROM, Root etc and does not brick. - As long as you are flashing Official Firmware of course.
You will get updates from a different region though, wait and see if someone more experienced posts just to be sure what I have said is 100% -

Thanks for your answer.
Now I already flashed British Unlocked(BTU) ROM, but I cannot change my CSC code XEM(Malay) to BTU.
I will search articles to change my csc code.
Thank you.
Have a look at this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2461929 There is some CSC files there, but make sure you read and I'm sure if they're wrong there will be more recent one's posted further in the thread. Good luck.

[Q] Flashing stock

Hello,
Firstly i searched the forum for a good answer but didn't find one. Sorry in advance if this question has been already answered and i didn't see the thread \ post.
I would like to change my firmware from 4.2.2 NB5 ORO CSC to 4.2.2 ND5 ( or the latest ) NEE CSC. Is that possbile via odin without changing my CSC ? I mean if i just flash it directly will it work ?
My phone is not rooted and i know that in order to change the CSC i have to rood it. My phone is also locked on my carrier, Orange.
Thank you and sorry if this is a repost of something similar.

You can flash the ROM without updating your CSC IF the AP file does not contain the CSC file. If the ROM does not specify in its name that it only includes XXX or YYY without any mention of CSC, then you're fine (Assuming you download from Sammobile). If it does say something related to CSC codes or there are 3 model numbers (different or not) on the file name, then it includes the CSC.
You don't need to root to change CSC. You need the Samsung dialer code + your IMEI number, which will factory reset your phone but change your CSC.

This is the ROM i wanted to flash. I'm not quite sure if it includes or not what you said. It should be NEE CSC so i think i can't flash it...right ? :-s
If i can't flash it, can you give me a link to an example firmware that i can flash, other than my stock ORO CSC rom ?
The dialer code + IMEI doesn't work for me. I tried * # 272 *IMEI # and it says the code is invalid. Maybe because i'm branded on Orange ?

That is a full ROM. It includes everything - AP, CP and CSC.
I don't understand, do you just want to get rid of your ORO CSC ROM? You should be able to install your NEE ROM perfectly fine.

Yes, i want to fully get rid of this ROM because updates on this CSC are so friggin slow it's driving me mad. I want to completly move to NEE ROM. So i can flash this ROM perfectly with the instructions on Sammobile in the link right ?

You'll have to unlock your phone first on a website, then you're free to install any ROM from any country. If not it will still be locked to Orange.

No problem about that, i am still gonna be on Orange anyway. I don't want to unlock it just want to get a different ROM with a newer build number so i can (probably) get away from this stupid battery drain.

Give it a go, if you can't get it to work, just reflash your stock Orange.
The absolute worst thing that could happen is that KNOX would go 0x1, but you will still get your updates. If that happens, you should really just use custom ROMs, they're wonderful and updates more often.

I know about custom ROMs and i've been looking and them and i really wish i would have the gut to just screw my warranty but i can't do it just now. I've had some problems with my old Xperia Z and i'm lucky i had custom roms but on locked BL so i could claim my warranty. I can't even root it and it's just killing me but meh...
okay, i'll give it a go thanks for the advice and time spent answering to me ! Cheers !

CSC is your region\carrier customization. It dictates what your updates are , what they contains and when you get them . I want to change it but i know ( i might be wrong about this ) that it's only possible via rooting, wich i can't do atm
OK so i flashed the NEE straight on my NB4 ORO firmware and it worked flawlessly.
So for everybody that is asking this: you can flash any full ROM with any CSC on top of any other CSC . This is my experience and i hope it goes well with you ! Good luck !

CSC is Customer Sales Code. You want to change it when you want to debrand/debloat your phone by removing carrier-specific apps or update it to another carrier's update stream (to get a different carrier's upgrades). It also allows for you to get correct APN values if your carrier's auto assign doesn't work properly.
You don't need root to change it, you need Odin and the CSC package. You can use the Samsung code + IMEI as a last resort.

Good job man! But you have to be aware, I did some research before you did it. It does not apply to all devices. As the Russian ORO and Nordic Countries are the "same" region, I automatically assumed you bought your device in Europe, hence you won't be region locked out of your device. If you had a Hong Kong device you will have to take account for your storage difference (whether its 16GB or 32GB) as ROMs are usually for the 32GB PIT (bootloader), and any flashing of other region based ROMs COULD brick your device.

Nice find , thanks for pointing it out. I don't think I have a region lock, it didn't have any of the stickers that usually say it's region locked. But yea, my version is from Europe.
p.s. ORO is from Romania

[Q] Flashing stock rom

This maybe a very stupid question but ive looked everywhere for an answer but i cant find one. Is it possible to flash the stock lollipop rom over an unrooted o2 lollipop rom. Only reason im asking is i haven't much experience flashing Samsung phones and i want to make sure i don't brick the thing lol. any advice would be great. Go to sammobile and find your firmware. Try to search by name e.g SM-N9005 and country. When you download from there you will see instructions or all over xda on how to use ? odin.
All you need is ? odin. No risks if you follow the instructions.
Thanks for the reply but it still doesn't answer my original question can I flash a unbranded lollipop over the O2 lollipop and I have yet to find a unbranded UK lollipop rom yet so which version do I down load?
Thanks

You should flash the good firmware for your CSC (device country code). You can find it installing this APP and going to Sammobile.com then for download the correct firmware.
mine says o2u and i cant find an unbranded firmware. ive included a screen shot.

You shouldn't flash unbranded firmware to one branded device. You should flash one of this ONES then.
is that the branded version of the o2 firmware? as i have that one installed already.

Flashing (stock) ROM with a different carrier on Note 4 N910F

Hey guys,
So it's been a couple years since i've been on this forum, and i had a question.
Like most of you, i've been waiting to update to android marshmallow (and i want the official ROM), but the one for my carrier isn't out yet (T-Mobile Netherlands). But on Sammobile i saw some other stock roms for the N910F who already had the update. Is it possible to just flash one of them via Odin? They all have the same PDA & CSC, so it would look like it's not a problem.
Thanks in advance, Sam
PS: English isn't my native language, so i'm sorry if some things were unclear, just send me a message when some things need a explanation
Yep, as long as you have the same model (SM-910F) you can flash any one of them.
Edit: You may need a PIT file if it doesn't flash correctly, but i would only worry about that if you run into problems.
Hello, I think you talk about the Cyprus Version CYV
(The only one without carrier)
You can find the good pit here.
For this one it's need the VFG
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BzyeAt2hy6XeN2xrSzROWkVUemM/view?usp=sharing&pref=2&pli=1
I didn't have make this for now but many users reported it's working fine.

Thanks for your response! But i'm a bit confused now, is the only stock rom i can flash safely the Cyprus version? And why does it matter?
Looking forward to your response.
If anyone could make a quick step by step tutorial on how to flash with the pit file that would be nice thanks
