LG G3 Screen on Time Discussion
Greetings all.
Firstly, this is not a thread to discuss resolution changing! There are several of those already and it has been established that it does not have a viable effect on battery life!
I started this thread as I thought we could use a useful thread which we will discuss SOLEY (SOT) screen on time. After sifting through the rather disorganised battery life discussions I was left with mixed ideas of what a general screen on time for the LG G3 was. There are of course several of these battery threads, but as they all talk about all aspects of battery life, standby included, I thought it would be nice to get some ideas of SOT congregating in one thread.
Format
First of all there needs to be a format in which we standardise our discussion. If you are going to post complaining about SOT or saying how great your SOT is please format your post like so. I propose the following.
Model:
Rom and Version/Kernel:
Modem/Baseband:
Carrier/Country:
GPS:
WIFI:
Data (4g/3g/2g/none):
Explanation of use/modifications:
Screenshots (3% or below):
Would you please state in the explanation, your use of battery saving apps such as Greenify, Amplify, Automatic Data toggles, Tasker, Xposed and so on. Note any messaging/email clients installed as these will have an obvious effect on SOT. What are your syncing settings? For the screen shots post any that seem interesting but a 3% or below is preferred. Mention something about your use, if it was gaming, web browsing, listening to music, or with a long period of standby time. Also please state an aproximation of your brightness settings plus any debloating that you have done, and anything else you think is of relevance!
This is the proposed format for posting. We should be able to get a fantastic database of SOT for the LG G3.
I do realise that everyone's usage differs greatly and it will vary according to brightness, location and many different factors such as how long the phone has been in standby etcetera.. But don't let that stop you posting. I will start.
My Screen on TimeModel: D855
Rom and Version/Kernel: Cloudy 2.5 and kernel
Modem/Baseband: 20P
Carrier/Country: Telecom Italia
GPS: No
WIFI: No
Data (4g/3g/2g/none): 3G on constantly
Explanation of use/modifications: Fast dormancy disabled. All the bloatware frozen with titanium back up. Whats app was the only IM installed plus skype. Screen brightness was roughly below 60% almost the whole time on auto. No gaming. Music listening for 20min, reading xda for the majority of the time, plus a bit of downtime for dinner. No greenify, amplify or data toggles. Purely let it run how it goes. Although I did have the sharpening set to disabled. My signal was around 2 bars for most of the time and my sync for everything was disabled, contacts, all google sync stuff. I had also disabled back ground data for the Google Play Store, which results in a pop up error, but this can be fixed by exiting and resarting the Play Store.

Modem/Baseband: 20U
Carrier/Country: EE UK
GPS: Device only
WIFI: Always on
Data (4g/3g/2g/none): 3G when out of the house
Pure stock, debloated as much as I could. Max CPU frequency reduced to 2295, CTT mod installed and sharpening disabled. Brightness at 50%/auto. No games, mostly browsing in chrome, music with screen off and an hour of voice calls. No greenify or any kind of "battery saving" apps.

Now thats inpressive. Do you live next to a cell phone tower? Or have an extended battery or what! Thats some impressive screen on time. Do you think you could get more?
This phone has such variation with SOT. More than my old S4, that had maybe 1 hour difference between users at most. But 7 hours SOT!?! What apps do you have installed/not installed. I'm going to flash your setup! That's utterly incredible!

My cell signal is normally 2-3 bars so not especially strong. Just the stock original battery, around 6 months old at this point.
I have installed nova launcher, basic Google apps, poweramp, chrome, just typical everyday stuff. Removed everything LG except quickremote and quick note.
Could probably push over 8 hours if I underclocked more and messed about with custom kernels but I want to maintain the performance and stability I have.
I don't know how you guys can get 5 hours SOT.I barely get 4 hours sot and that too only on wifi.
Location is turned off, gestures off.Bright ess always on 35%.
I use whatsapp,fb,tapatalk and youtube.Little bit of gaming.
I have a used d855 and it was from an australian carrier "Optus" but i have flashed v20u kdz, rooted and using gabriel kernel.
I don't know if it's battery have got weaker. It's one terminal has gone somewhat black but other three are fine.

That is still phenomenal. I cannot comprehend having 7+ hours of SOT. It really is the only real gauge of battery life. At least for me. Idle battery drain is easily fixed by controlling wakelocks, but SOT is the main thing that I look for in a smart phone.
Before I bought this phone, which was about a week ago, I was impressed by 5 hours SOT, but knowing that this phone can have upwards of 7 hours makes me want to look into this issue more. It doesnt make sense to me. Do you have a BBS log from these screen on times?
Was your update OTA? I assume so. I currently don't have any wifi so I'm going to search for a hotspot, download the firmware from the XDA thread, flash it and see how I go. I am in Italy so it could be interesting.

The gaming really kills it. The GPU has a time with the screen. At least thats what I have found. I did about 20 min of that Shark Game to test out the phone and got 5 hours + SOT by 2% remaining. Facebook wont be helping. Whatsapp doesn't seem to be a problem for me on the drain side. It drains a bit, but not alot. Also does Optus support Fast Dormancy? If not its probably best to disable it.
Remeber to post in the above format so we can start to piece together the perfect combinations!

Wow guys, your phones are like beasts. I've never ever have gotten 4hr+ SOT on my G3. Nowadays I usually get 2,5 hrs with 40+ hrs of total battery time. I have no idea how you're doing it. I've tried to find the culprit, but everything seems normal. Atleast that's what apps tell me. Can you please help me find the issue? Give me tips?

And you say you are getting around 4 hours SOT? So you are running Cloudy like me, I'm not entirely sure yet, but it seems to me that it could infact be worse than some versions of stock, for screen on time. I'm currently out of Wifi so I have not yet had the chance to flash the 20U stock. I want to try it with my exact set up and see how I go.
That is strange, 4 hours SOT. It's not alot. I have auto sync disabled, along with every google syncing aplication under accounts disabled so nothing syncs. I also disabled back ground data for the Google Play store, which causes an abort dialog sometimes, but it is easily fixed by exiting the app, swiping it from recents and starting it again.
I also have my 3G set to only 3G whichvis annoyingly changed to auto on a reboot. But this certainly helps. As for modems how is your cell signal battery consumption under stock battery info? Whats your period of no signal? Of course, all those messaging apps probably ruin your SOT as most of them are polling all the time, at least try congregating all your messaging into one app, and make sure that app isn't messenger.
Also are you sure your carrier doesn't support FD? Are you getting massive phone wakelocks when FD is enabled?

4 hours of SOT would be awesome for me. As I said it's only 2,5 hours nowadays. I got Gmail syncing all the time as it's essential for my work. There isn't any time without signal but the phone idle and cell standby is right under the screen in consumption with 10-15% each. My phone sleeps well, almost no battery usage while the screen is off. But as soon as I turn on the screen it goes crazy and consumes battery like mad. Messenger must be a huge battery drain but I used to have the 4 hrs of SOT even 5 on lighter days with messenger. I don't think my carrier support FD. It's a small country without any really advanced tech.

Well it seems to me that your problem would be your modem/baseband/radio. If cell standby is up there with screen, I would assume that your phone doesn't have great reception. I say this because, supposing you have your screen off for a long period yet the radio isn't communicating that much data, but then once you turn the screen on, I'm going to assume that you are using the internet for browsing or responding to emails, messages ect? I would think that this would mean the phone must send alot more data with a bad signal, which could suggest why your standby times are fine and you SOT times aren't so good. 3G is definetly the way to go for SOT, you have no chance on 4G. Try enabling FD and seeing if phone starts having wakelocks in Better Battery Stats.
I also advise that you swap out Gmail for something a bit less ruthlessly active on the syncing side of things. I use stock, some people like others like cloudmagic, but there are a billion so try them out. Something that you can at least customise more to be push or pull and not syncing every 5 min. You can probably also disable all of the google account syncing tasks. Download greenify, and it has a setting there that allows you to see all the hidden Google services syncing tasks under accounts. I find that is one of the best things about Greenify. I don't use it for freezing apps, but that setting helps stop your phone syncing every second. For example who cares about chrome bookmarks syncing? Not me.
Edit: Sorry I just read that again. 2.5 hours S0T. That is utterly horrendous. Attach a BBS log.

Sorry for the delay answer and thanks for you help so far. I've tried out your Greenify tips and install a more recent version of the kernel i'm running now as it was having battery drain issues. Also I noticed someting weird in BBS. Please see my attachment.
"No or unknown signal" 100%. Is it normal? Can it be the issue?

Nah, I don't think so. Unless you actually have no reception? I get that too sometimes. I'm not sure if it is a bug or what it is, but if you had signal the whole time then you can probably ignore it. I had that too and wondered what it was. Never found out.
Also make sure you have your data set to 3G not auto and manually select your provider under cellphone networks. Because I have a feeling if you say you want to stay on the same one, you wont have it trying to switch when the signal gets low from that provider, it will just go to no signal. I'm not sure about your carrier, but some carriers have a switch over agreement with other carriers, which would make your signal reception reporting not entirely accurate. If you select one provider. It will always be that one provider
Here you go I will attach one of my BBS logs from when I got more than 5 hours SOT.

No, here in Hungary there is no agreement. It will only stay on my provider. Our 4G and 2G coverage is great but the 3G one is not so. I need to have 2g on too. Usually I got 2 or 3 bars at home. While in the city it really depends. Sometimes barely any signal, then all of a sudden max bars. Maybe my battery is faulty?
Edit: Also you got No or Unknown Signal (): 11 m 21 s 2.1% while I got 100%. I need to figure this one out.

Yes I noticed that too. Interesting. I suppose that you could try a new modem? Perhaps that would help your 3g signal?

I changed modem, now I'm waiting for results. So far better. Also I noticed one more thing. My battery charges itself overnight. I went to sleep with 50% remaining when I woke up it went up to 52%. This happens very often. Also, when I'm using it under 30% it discharges even faster. Is it the battery or it's just miscalibrated? I've tried calibrating it by draining it almost to 0 then turned it off and offline charged it until it was full. Never worked. Anymore tricks?

Yeah, I noticed the exact same phenomenon actually, draining speeding up from 30%. I made a thread about it but no one took any interest. I read somewhere that perhaps LG does it to create a false sense of better battery. I would like to find the problem here though, because it is a rather annoying problem. Having inaccurate battery readings under 30% is the last thing you want. Perhaps they made it like that to make the battery saver feature seem like it is doing more than it really is?
As for charging over night I had that too on some other devices. I think it is a common bug across android or general lion batteries, because it's not uncommon to hear about. I'm sure there is a lot of discussion out there about it. Still, two percent is rather nice to gain over night without charging!
One more question, are you using the stock charger?

thiis thing dies on me really quick, at home not as bad when I'm on wifi, but i left this morning from my house, and by the time I got to work 45 minutes later i'm at like 90% and i've done nothing on the phone, not a thing, no text, no voice calls. time without signal is 0.
then of course I get to work and time without signal jumps to like 22%, but still, my blackberry didn't go dead in half a day. i'm running the mixup undervolted kernal and the epic experience rom.
I do run gps and normal phone settings but turning them off is really not an option, especially for my wife that just needs a phone that works and isn't dead before she is out of work, and she doesn't even use the phone.
am I doing something wrong or is the battery life really this crappy?
and it was worse before the new kernal on DI18, and way worse before that.
i use the same set up i got 10 hours under pretty use
try turning gps off at work
So what are you leaving on? 4g? Gps? WiFi? I found that using black wallpaper helps.
wifi and gps are always on, it seems its TWS that is killing it. at like 22% right now. battery is down to 83% right now 2 hours off charger. no voice calls or text calls.
If you are getting a tws of 50% then put your phone into airplane mode for about 10 seconds and then switch it back, you will see a dramatic decease in tws

Here's a few things you can do ...
1) If you have Sprint service in most places, turn off roaming (Settings, Call settings, System select, Sprint). This will disable roaming period so that all roaming services are disabled (i.e. you won't ever see the data roaming guard).
2) Download JuiceDefender beta (this turns off all data, i.e. Wifi / 3G, whenever your phone's screen is off, if you purchase UltimateJuice with it, you can schedule it however you want, and you can choose to allow some apps to always allow data to go through). This saves me a LOT of battery since my screen is usually off.
3) Try the TWS hack mentioned in the earlier post, it should be fixed in DI18, but some people are still seeing high numbers there.
4) If you're rooted, get an app like Autostarts and disable the DRM service from ever running. This was found to be a battery killer.
The biggest battery drainer of them all is the GPS, and then 3G. If you can minimize your uses with those, you will maximize battery life. Also, use Wifi in areas that have it because Wifi hardly drains battery at all compared to 3G. I haven't seen any kernel really that gets much more battery life than stock, so doing these things will help. I love the Epic, but the battery life is a real downer for me too. I've gotten a full day's use (medium use) at times, while some days it hardly lasts at all.
Yes do the airplane mode trick and turn off gps if you are not using it and DO NOT USE JUICE DEFENDER i get 45 hours battery life without it. that app runs constantly in the background and uses more battery. Juice defender is for lazy people that dont know how to find these data and sync settings that are already on the phone or you can download an app that will let you toggle whatever setting you need. Set emails to sync once an hour and if it is really a priority then go into the email account and push refresh.
If you are really getting 45 hours of battery while actually using your phone then will you please share all of the settings that you have that give you this kind of battery life

I wondered if that would do anything. Considering how AMOLED works, dark themes and wallpapers *should* help battery life similar to reducing brightness.
Auto-Sync does some mean damage if your settings are too frequent, too. Try not to use Facebook/Twitter/Myspace integration, if possible, or disable them from syncing automatically, and sync them yourself when you feel the need.
Okay I don't know exactly what I did/didn't do but my battery problem seems to be greatly improved. Lets start with my details. Before 2 days ago. No matter what my use my battery drain would be approx 6-8% an hour. If I took my phone off the charger at 11am by 4pm I would be around 60%. GPS/4g/wifi off. Screen brightness set to lowest. tws not too bad. Using both the tws trick and drm stopped. Usually 2 or 3 phone calls 5-10 texts 5-10 minutes of browsing. I had a task killer installed but never used it to kill tasks just as an app switcher. Even after the di18 update no major difference. So the other day I downloaded an app called system panel. Another task manager. I deleted the task killer widget on my home page but no the app. The first day I took my phone off the charger used it for about an hour then put it back on the charger for about 15 minutes. When I took it off the charger it was at 96%. I opened system panel and killed all apps (necessary services/apps restarted immediately) did tws trick and drm kill. Same use as always after 8 hours my battery was at 80% a 16% drop. That's 2% an hour. The next day I deleted my task killer and over the same period of time I went from 96% to 83% (13% lose over 8 hrs) Only a little over 1% lose an hour. The only difference that I am aware of was the deletion of the task killer widget and then the app completely.

Ditto, I'd like to hear what you're doing too ... even when I do not TOUCH the phone, I cannot get 45 hours. I think you're being a bit optimistic here.
Lmao No. Since di18 it has been great. I use my phone for a lot of stuff too. I have a live wall paper and rss feeds that update. email is set to once an hour. Now dont get me wrong if i play a game then it will suck my battery pretty good like 5% for ten minutes. i have a widget for sync settings. im rooted with ALL SPRINT apps removed i think thats the biggest thing. dont leave gps or other on if you are not using it. i do not have drm removed. i use full brightness. i talk a few times a day and dozens of text and web surfing. no juice defender or task killers. The object for me was to not have any unneccessary stuff run when it doesnt need to. so the phone is set to come alive when the screen is on not off. Check ALL APP and WIDGET SETTINGS FOR HOW OFTEN THEY UPDATE. I DO MEAN ALL. GO THROUGH EVERY APP AND CHECK THEIR SETTINGS ALSO the biggest drain is make sure you sign out gtalk or it will just constantly run. I shoulda posted my screen shot of battery life earlier sorry i will as soon as it reads 1d21h again. prolly tomorrow afternoon.... Rooted, cwm, galaxy rom and kernel, blue minimalism theme

i do the airplane trick, problem is it seems, when im on wifi, the life is great, battery is perfect, as soon as you go to 3g, it goes to crap, plus the service where I work is spotty as well. I don't know what to do, seriously I can't go through 2 years of great cell service that I can't use because the battery is dead. I mean if I could get through 10 hours it wouldn't be bad, but as it is now, i'm lucky to squeak through about 8 hours. and I have the mixup kernal that is undervolted and supposedly already messing around with the cpu. usually on 3g, no matter where I am pretty much I"m at like 10-20% TWS.
tws is 50% for me. just stop the data with sync settings then it has no reason to draw more. my house and school have terrible service. you are only losing battery life due to data that is going really slow and it takes way more battery to accomplish. i keep wifi on all nite at my house but my sync settings are off. i do this so its not searching for 3g because i have an airrave and wifi. i used the di07 mixup and was not happy with it. galaxy roms have been the least buggy and very stable with the best battery life. That might be my opinion but also genius dog doesnt have an epic yet so i cant trust his stuff when he cant see the impacts with the kernels he is making. but he does know code i will tell you that.

Holy crap 8 hour battery life is really bad.
Do you have any apps syncing? A weak signal with an app syncing can have a devastating effect on the battery life.
In my school building I get 0-1 signal bars and once I use the stock email app to sync my email every hour with 3G on my battery life is probably a third as good.
How?
jbadboy2007 said:
Yes do the airplane mode trick and turn off gps if you are not using it and DO NOT USE JUICE DEFENDER i get 45 hours battery life without it. that app runs constantly in the background and uses more battery. Juice defender is for lazy people that dont know how to find these data and sync settings that are already on the phone or you can download an app that will let you toggle whatever setting you need. Set emails to sync once an hour and if it is really a priority then go into the email account and push refresh.

Inside my building where I get a weak signal I turn off 3G and use the wifi to sync my apps regularly. I get a good wifi signal there.
If I can't get a good 3G signal in the building than there's not much I can do to my phone to make the 3G signal better (I think that's the cause for the battery drain).
Hey guys and please dont crucify me. I know there's a ton of other battery issue threads on this forum and on many others but I cant find the right one. I have looked up each and every one of them, about mediaserver draining the battery about the android system and so on. I have done everything each thread said to, downloaded greenify and hibernated most active apps, disabled and froze certain bloatware with titanium backup pro and so many other things. And I think that the battery would be supposed to perform at its best right now. I am not a very heavy user, I just use my phone for music, calls, a little gaming and the occasional facebook/messenger/browser session with either 4G or WiFi. I have everything everyone ever said turned off. Things like auto backup of Google+ and all location services and auto sync. Screen is constantly at 65% brightness. To further prove my point, at this point in this post which took me like 3 minutes to write, my battery has lost 3 percent. I can leave the phone unplugged all night at 100% and when I wake up it will be at 95% but the moment I pick it up and start playing some music or some games the battery goes down really fast. I can even compare it to the battery of my old Xperia S after a year and a half use which was like 7 hours altogether. Battery stats say that mediaserver takes up 20ish% battery and Android system goes over 40%. I really don't know what to do. Do you have any suggestions?
Thanks in advance, George.
you should look at the time it depletes when screen on, if its below 5 hours from 100% downward then its not good. I have noticed the battery still charges past 100%. So leave it an hour after it reaches 100%. I would also recommend using the charger that came with phone. No usb charging for these tests. Dont use phone while charging either.
Also freezing\debloating can be adverse, at least thats my experience on battery life. So I recommend going back to stock full clean with factory resets.
No recovering of apps or app data for these tests. No contamination so to speak.
Also lg roms allow you to switch off services via taskmanager settings, in settings app you can disable what you dont want to use. No need for debloating\freezing etc.
Switch off location settings, gps and bluetooth for this test. Search for carrier iq on lg g2 forum and how to disable it via settings. Switch of cloud storage(dropbox/box etc) and lg backup stuff. Only google accounts, wifi and mobile networks.
Now for the screen on time test, just use browsing apps. No games or music\movies.
Your screen on time should be 6 hours approximately. From 100 to 0. It can be 5-6 hours. If its below 5 then its not good. this is with good network coverage btw.
thats what I would do

Have you tried better battery stats, wake lock detector, or even gsam battery monitor. Maybe you have Google location services on?

Yes I have tried all of the above. Only thing that sticks out is something called 1013 which keeps running and waking my phone but I think it's something about the sound. Next is Android System with many wakelocks and as I said with 30+ % battery consumption. Everything location-wise is off. Actually everything is off. Every setting. Things go to hell when I open 4G or WiFi. Also I have the international model so I don't think there's carrier IQ in my device, or maybe I didn't find it in an app suggested by someone here for that purpose. System Tweaks I think it was.
Could you post a screen shot?

I've had android 4x do this on multiple devices, multiple roms for no apparent reason. Wipe it and start over. Wipe everything. Especially directories with any form of music, sound files, videos... ( Use LG Flash Tool and go back to stock 4.2 for example will do just that )
So the OTA came over to my country and now it seems like BBS and WLD are broken. Can't really do anything to show you the more complex battery stats and can't really say that the battery has improved. Reducing the brightness did have some effect but I am not really fond of having it at such low values. Anything else I can do to minimize the Android System battery consumption? Its bigger than what the screen is using, even when it was at 70% brightness.
Sad to say my first LG G2 just got replaced today & am now running into this problem with the 2nd phone. Its literally night and day battery life performance between both phones.
First phone had 0 issues and by now I'd still have battery % in the 90s. New phone is sitting @ 63% after 3 hours of use (setting up phone, few reboots here there....just factory resetted for the 2nd time to try and clear this etc)
Culprits are:
Google Services
Android Core Apps
Media Server
System UI
Both phones are: 4.2.2
build: JDQ39B
Software: D80110c
brightness (which never was an issue)= 45%
O.P,
has your situation improved or worsened since you've encountered this problem? I'm thinking about sending my replacement back for another replacement

I can now say that the battery life of my phone has improved. But sadlyf the problem was probably some corrupt mp3 files that I moved directly from my old device which forced the mediaserver service to run constantly and thus the android system. :/ I still can say that I think it drains a bit fast when I use it for browsing, Facebook, games and stuff but at least when I check the battery consumption, the only things stated there that make a difference are the screen at ~30-35% and the game which I was playing or for example Chrome. It finally feels like that whatever I use drains the battery and not something else in the background but I don't have that good of an impression for the 3000mAh "beast" battery of the G2. Awesome phone though.

I ended up returning my replacement phone and am back on my original G2 until I can get a proper replacement. I can tell you, the G2 does have an awesome battery life if you get a good phone out the box.
The differences between my first G2 and the 2nd one tmobile sent me are night and day. Get a replacement phone while you still have time.
Should have my new one next week. Just hope it's exactly like my first one.
Ex....been using it all day..I mean heavy usage...and in still @ 75%..and the phone is cool to the touch
The replacement g2 would [email protected] 36-37% by now and running hot

You're on 4.2.2, not 4.4.2 when you have the 1013, is that correct?
Try rebooting when the volume is on, rather than rebooting in quiet/vibrate mode.

The OTA came to my country some days ago. Still the battery feels kind of small. Is it normal to lose 1% every ~1-2 minutes on 4G browsing? With nothing else on. No gps no G+ backup no anything.
Hi Guys,
Firstly, I know there are several threads with different tips and suggestions but most of them didn't work for me.
Recently (since more than a week) , I have noticed strange drain in battery and getting hot pretty quickly. It has kitkat and I didn't get time to use it properly in the beginning. After reading different threads and forums here's what I did:
- Let it drain completely, shut off, took out battery for a couple of hrs and then charged without switching on. x2
- Rebooted after charging
- Uninstalled some apps I thought might be problematic
- Factory Reset (such a pain!)
- When attached to Kies, it prompted for Firmware update N9005XXUENC2 followed by another factory reset and hard reset.
- Cleared cache by going into recovery mode.
- Rebooting after charging
But seems like none of it made much difference, my routine use
- couple of hours on wifi
- no heavy games, only temple run, subway surf etc.
- no streaming
- no lengthy calls, not a lot of messaging
- 1, 2 hrs of music
- Syncing off, gps off, blue tooth off, Wifi mostly off, power saving on, brightness on auto, no 3g/4g data, almost no photos and video capturing, sensors, motions off except smart stay
I don't want to root the phone because of my busy schedule, with some difficulty I was able install WLD on it which resets after Rebooting. Point is, I am not a heavy user and this being a "beast" isn't quite unleashing the beasty-battery-life. I do get more than a day but that is when it's in deep sleep for 20hrs or more. I took some screenshots after reseting, updating firmware. It's past 3 battery cycles now, I will attach the latest one's to not clutter it up. I like this phone, but this battery is just not good enough. So, please helpful answers that don't require rooting.
Thank you for reading and Good day!
Is the battery drain consistant or does it happen at certain times (at home, at work, etc.)? If you are in an area where the signal changes frequently that will drain the battery because the radio is using power to maintain a connection. With wifi scanning for google services even when turned off setting make sure it is off if you dont need it. How do you charge the phone? If possible always use the charger that came with the phone, charging from a usb port from a computer is not as strong and can affect the memory of the battery and do not wait till almost dead to charge. It works best to recharge when between 35% and 45%. Look at your background services and see if anything out of the ordinary is running. And it could be possible the battery is defective and you might want to have it tested. I use my Note3 lightly and get 24 to 25 hours over two to three days (turning off at bedtime). This may not help any but this is what I have learned from others with similar situations. Good luck!

Hey MPDnnrd,
Thank you for your response.
It is sort of consistent, did you see the screen is just at 18% and the Android system at 30%? I think this is where the core problem lies - just don't know what and how to fix it.
- Signal Strength: Pretty good, hasn't been a problem
- I normally keep the wifi-scanning off and Now I turned off the location services to see the impact but then I think what's the point of premium device if you have to switch off everything.
- I prefer to use the factory-charger over usb-charging and I read it on several threads to let it completely die and then recharge, guess that didn't help.
- Background services - I don't think so, I kill all the apps as soon as I stop using them, use Greenify to hibernate other, switched off all auto-updates and notifications. Even on Playstore, I switched off the auto-updates and notifications.
- Defective Battery: Now this one, I haven't tested yet not sure how to - the phone's just 2 months old so shouldn't it be good enough?
I know they are not very helpful, but still thank you very much. :good:

I'm sorry to have to say this but I think you got a pretty normal battery drain by looking on your screens. You played almost one hour subway surf(which drains the battery pretty quick) and I guess the other hours where internet (also known to drain battery) or calls/messages. On a not rooted device with stock kernel that seems like normal battery usage to me!!!
However if you like to check these maybe u get a couple of percentages(not that much though I guess):
-Power saving mode in notification drawer makes your cpu clock go down (not sure u got it on not rooted device sry)
-check turn of pen detection in s pen settings
-put the brightness on auto or put it down manually
-if you can change the theme color in apps do so(make it black)
-check the svoice settings so it doesn't listen to your voice
-if you don't care how your phone looks buy a zerolemon battery(I think it makes your phone too big but that's preference)
-don't use a bright background keep it dark colors and no live wallpaper as well
Maybe that helps a little.
I don't see any drain either. Almost 6 hours screen on during 24 hours is excellent, additional 1.5 hour awake time for other services. Excellent battery life.
Settings - General - Applications - disable unnecessary apps
In Google Settings, opt-out interest-based ads and disable location access.
Thank you for your reponses guys - thing is it actually had much better battery life. What I don't understand is the fact that Screen % used to be on top and android os and system was below it but now it has been on top.
I have tweaked quite a few things already that 4aces suggested and the S-voice thing seems new, I'll look at it. Today it didn't even last a full day whereas I know people who even after heavy usage get easily more than a day - mine one, I don't use it this much. The Zerolemon thing is beast but then the phone is a freakin block lol so heavy and big, good travel etc. where you can't charge your phone and has a rugged case.
But there's a change that I saw today, Android System is now below the screen so I am not sure what made it do that but may the next time I charge it gets better and so on. I'll keep you guys posted after charging it today, I'll monitor what I do.
Blondasisko - I wouldn't really call it excellent, but it's sort of getting better than it was in the first 2 cycles. But how do I reduce additional awake time for other services? Moreover, you might've noticed I got till 1% to get this much time like really stretched it to get there.
Someguyfromhell - Already done, locations were off starting today.
Can anyone else comment on their daily routine of usage and the battery drainage ratio?
If I get 12 hours and 4hrs screen time I'm happy. I don't even play any games. Have a lot of accounts syncing lot of Internet and a bit on the calls, gps. I get on average 14 -16 hours
I have brightness on high. If you put it on auto it makes a big difference.

I guess I should feel lucky, I have ZERO syncing, auto brightness, no live wallpapers or gimmicky stuff on, no gps, hardly 10mins or so on phone calls and prolly 30-60mins on messaging a day.
@all others - and the Android System is back on top - what could be the possible reasons for it?
I think its because of such minimal use that the system goes on top. The system still had to operate so when you have hardly used the phone then the system will go on top. Though with that usage you've stated you should get nearer 2 days really

You're right probably, this is what I'd like to know as to what is running in the background that drains more battery? Exactly, at-least 1.5 days is what I should get with this usage. May be I should buy a new battery and see how it works.
hi everyone,
I'm hearing praise everywhere about how great this battery has been with people getting at least 8 to even 12 hours of SOT (average seems to be 10).
so how come my device clearly is much worse in this regard?
I activated black theme wherever I can, turned of scanning for BT and WiFi , use low brightness, the apps I use are not intensive AT ALL (no gaming, no Facebook) , I wiped the device cache, I resteicted battery usage of 155 apps .
it seems that Google play services is somewhat of a problem (which is why I cleared play services , Google and play store cache, as well as resteicted play services usage data), however it isn't even the biggest battery drain . also turned off face unlock.
I tried turning adaptive battery as well as advanced optimisation options on and off but it didn't seem to make a difference.
What could be the reason for the bad battery life?
can you help me? I want to like this phone but it's impossible when I get consistently less than 6h SOT when already making so many compromises (whereas other people seem to be doing no tweaking and get 11 hours)
http :// imgur.com/a/wCjd3kR (no other format available BC I'm a new member)
Also: why does my wallpaper change every time I reboot my phone?
I wasn't doing to well, then I reset my phone and it has been insanely good. I would say I started stock with adding limited apps. I suspect myfitnesspal was hurting my battery so I use the browser version. Right now I have 60% left, been on for 30 hours with 3 SOT. Aiming for 3 days which I have never done on a stock phone.

So what you're suggesting is that I should do a factory reset and then don't use the OnePlus Switch app (like I previously did) to restore my apps but instead install one by one?
I mean I get it that apps like Strava use up a lot of battery but I don't use it very often and with this light usage I expected twice the SOT tbh..

Yes. I've seen all sorts of crazy reports from people using the switch app. Lag, crashes, now bad battery.
You're so much better off just starting fresh, or using some other back up solution.

Thank you. I will try that on the weekend after monitoring battery life for the days till then. Maybe it randomly resolves itself?
But drag-and-dropping music from my PC (or from my phone to the PC) on the device shouldn't cause corrupt data, right?
Also restricting all these apps and using different kinds of in-built battery savers shouldn't cause reduced battery either, I suppose ? It would be quite counterintuitive.
Sry for asking such naive questions, I'm not very tech-affine
when play services show up as battery hogs the problem is often not within play services but some app using play services.
to save battery many connections (like push notifications) are handled by Google services instead of all apps keeping separate listerners/connections alive. This saves tremendous amounts of battery but makes troubleshooting harder, as the app causing the drain is not showing up under battery stats.
I would also recommend a fresh start.
Don't worry about it so much. 6h SOT is amazing. Set your phone up the way you want it, with the widgets, apps, screen brightness that you want. When was the last time you needed a phone to last three days? I use my phone whenever I want throughout the day: some navigating, some calling, have the screen on for 3-4 hours, and have 30% left when I get home in the evening after 12+ hours off of the charger. Just enjoy the phone.

The last time a phone lasted me three days was my Oneplus One, it had better battery life than this.
I'm enjoying the phone but I want what I paid for and it is not such ****ty battery life.

I practically restricted all apps in both battery and notifications, could that be an issue?
When I factory reset should I not restrict so much this time around (as well as not use OP switch)?
I do not have any app restricted and get during 2 days with 6+h sot.
Also restricting location to GPS only does help save battery. Google now on always listening also drains faster. If you want to use all comfort features that is fine, but you will not get as long battery life and sort compared to ppl not using that stuff
Do a factory reset and then only install the minimum apps you need. when after two days your battery stats do look nice you now know that the device is fine, you can then add more of your apps and monitor what happens.
I personally use titanium backup instead of switch but that requires root.

I don't really have "a lot of comfort features". I battery restricted most of my apps, use blackmode everywhere, hardly receive notifications anymore, and only use low brightness. I'd expect more than 5h SOT.
I just hope it's not the device

I also forgot to mention, I have it set on battery saver, but I mean, I have listened to music thru the speakers for 40 mins, listened to music for about 45 mins over bluetooth, I have a garmin watch that syncs texts and calls, I have real no major compromises (also not rooted, which I have always been a root junky) and I am at 51% with 3.5 SOT with 1.5 hours of voice calls to. I will mention, I froze Chrome and am using Via as my browser, not sure if that is helping or not either.

I don't really have "a lot of comfort features". I battery restricted most of my apps, use blackmode everywhere, hardly receive notifications anymore, and only use low brightness. I'd expect more than 5h SOT.
I just hope it's not the device

Before I reset, I was getting like 3 SOT... Lol
Give the reset a go.
Yeah i hear different reports as well. Im coming from a galaxy s7 edge with max 3 to 4 houra sot.
In the same useage i now have 9 or 10 hours sot. I can easily use the phone 3 days. Never using battery saver btw.
That is with youtube, music, facebook, whatsapp, stream blmusic bluetooth to car, snapchat and plain camera. I really am impressed and sometimes worried because i dont know when to charge lol.
I do hope you will get things right. Google account can bleed your battery with syncing in the background all the time. It was a common problem in android 3 till 7 for the devices i had. Sow restricting sync options for your google account may do a little bit for you? Good luck mate, if i can do anything for you, let me know..

Insane usage, can't really imagine that rn. Thanks, I maybe will do that on the weekend and report back if I remember. Again, drag-dropping music files from my PC shouldn't be an issue right?

hi everyone,
I'm hearing praise everywhere about how great this battery has been with people getting at least 8 to even 12 hours of SOT (average seems to be 10).
so how come my device clearly is much worse in this regard?

Also: why does my wallpaper change every time I reboot my phone?

Another factor to battery life is your carrier connection. Who do you use? And how is your reception? Bad reception can easily drain a battery.

The last time a phone lasted me three days was my Oneplus One, it had better battery life than this.
I'm enjoying the phone but I want what I paid for and it is not such ****ty battery life.

I guess everyone's definition of "****ty battery life" is different. What you described sounds like pretty awesome battery life at that much SOT and a full day's battery life.

Yeah, that was my OnePlue One though. My OP6T has worse battery life now. How is 5h awesome when the average user of the same phone gets twice the amount without restricting all of their phone functionality?
I am also getting around 5 to 6 SOT... so i decided to facory reset and then just add my daily apps ... hopefully it will get better
I work 8 hours a day, during that time im using wifi, then i drive home and do some things outside sow i use 4g connection.. Then im back home and using wifi again.
I think the biggest difference with you guys and me is, i deleted all the system bloatware apps.. I only kept google calandar and play store. It could be that all theae apps i deleted, is causing you guys a poor batt life, because i havent read anybody saying they did the same.
Drag dropping music from your pc is no prob.
I don't really know what's going on. My unrooted g6 running the latest security patch is getting 2,5 hours of SOT. Also, the stock camera appears to has taken up 13% today. Does anyone know what's going on?
Go to storage and clear cache files then restart, it looks like your camera app is stuck.
Mines been normal since the update so you've probably got some corrupt data in a cache.
Worst case would be a factory reset.
Try clearing the cache in your phone.. Go to settings>storage>free up spaces
1. Turn off wifi, Bluetooth, location, sync.
2. Reception looks very poor - phone will likely use more power to broadcast.
3. Use auto brightness.
4. Disable unused pre installed apps.
E.g. Never use the Calculator? Disable.
5. Any use of Facebook, Instagram, Messenger will kill battery life - tons of articles written about this.
6. Square button, clear all. Do this often to kill apps in the background.
Blind as bat
Why ppl don't accept that this phone have poor battery life? Instead starts given advice, here is some, How to get more screen time - Turn off everything wifi Bluetooth gps, throw away your sim card, uninstall every app, you are not supposed to use them, brightness to zero, if possible turn it off.
Voila! amazing battery life.
Don't believe in fake news that 1+6 means 7 hrs of screen time

your brain has 0 battery for sure to make this kind of comment...really!
my G6 gives me 5 to 6 hours of screen on time with 50% brightness all time, wifi always on and 1 to 2 hours on data network enabled when outside.
i can get over 7 and half hours if i am at home with 35% brightness (i dont need more inside home)...
you just need to do the right things, i have like 45/50 apps installed and since last update (H870 v20g) battery life are being better than ever.
of course if you talking me: oh, i have the brightness everytime at 100%, i have data, wifi, gps and bluetooth, i have messenger and facebook and instagram all over running in background - i need to tell you something: you dont need a phone, you need a notebook/laptop. PERIOD!
phone users are limited by origin, and if you know what?! buy an iphone and then say me something about battery life. oh well...you may treath your phone like a strange animal or what to dont have a good battery life, you may be wild. xD

Thank you! You proved my point.
And FYI genius, my daily usage are music while commuting (phone music, no streaming), outlook for ofc use, and twitter only. Completely debloated, no LG bloatware. May be you should have looked up before bashing here that good percentage of LG devices suffer from poor battery life, because different manufacturing in diff countries with different firmwares.
And guess what i am coming from an iphone and very satisfied with this phone, but again i am not blind and accepted the fact that not everything is perfect.
Above all that I love that you making personal comments here. :good:
