Deault app selection - Galaxy S6 Edge+ Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

One thing that is really annoying me is that now you can't choice an app to run just once.
For example, when I choose an URL, sometimes I want to open it on Chrome, but others on Flynx.
Now, this is not possible. If you select an app, it'll be the default forever (unless you clear it from the "default apps").
I've searched something related to this on system options, but I didn't found anything relevant.
Did you know any way to keep it old way?

I found a workaround: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.aboutmycode.betteropenwith

Tasker Question.

I believe that by using Tasker, we can set up multiple task executions ata set time or situation. I haven't tried it myself but I'm planning to now. I just need some info on how to make it work. Most importantly, if it can do THIS:
LEGEND:
A = An App
B = Titanium Backup
C = Another app
IF - LAUNCH - A - THEN - LAUNCH - B - COMMAND - B - FREEZE - C.
In simple terms, is it possible to have Tasker run Titanium Backup and freeze an app whenever a designated app is launched? Basically, launching a specified app will 'trigger' Titanium Backup to be launched and freeze another app.
I hope I'm not confusing anyone.
Thanks, XDA! I'm so proud to be a part of this community.
It looks like you might be able to. I'm unfamiliar with tasker... But the dev does have something of a user manual on the site. You may want to start there.
http://tasker.dinglisch.net/userguide/en/index.html
Tried tinkering around. Couldn't get anywhere with this. Is there an existing guide somewhere in these forums that I might have missed? Can anyone please point me at the right direction? :'(
Well, I'm fairly new to Tasker myself, but there's no easy "tap, tap, scroll, tap, done" way to do it as far as I can tell. Post #3 here gives a suggested way forward (same question as yours only with a time context instead of an app) but it is quite technical and certainly beyond my understanding at this point.
Otherwise you could ask on the Tasker forum. The developer seems to answer most threads, even if only to say something's not possible.
Can I ask why you need to freeze an app on the fly like that? Maybe if you explain it a little, there could be a workaround.

Well I found out that one of my apps doesn't work when the other app is installed or active. I really liked the app in question, so I made an experiment to freeze all apps until I found the culprit. I did found it. That's why I'm trying to check if it can be achieved.
Have you tried just killing the app?
Context: Application > App A
Task: App > Kill App > App C (and most likely check "Use Root")
You may want to add an exit task to restart App C after you're done with App A.
If it works, that would stop it running in the background. The problem is that Android 2.2 and upwards have changes to stop an app being able to kill another app. It's inconsistent though - I've tested it on about 6 apps and it has worked on 2, so it's maybe worth a shot if you haven't tried.
If you or anyone else is still interested, this is easy to do. Just use the Secure Settings plugin, specifically it's Package Manager option, and disable or enable to have the same effect as freeze/unfreeze. TB isn't required.

Thank you very much!!!
I downloaded the sample tasker app that expires in 7 days from their website and installed it. I can run tasker, enter code and save, and the icon shows it as running when I quit out to test my code. I can't get anything to work using code examples from the wiki for simple items such as action at preset time. I am running CyanogenMod 7.2.0 is this causing my problem?

[Q] In-phone popups for UC Browser 8

I am on the March 5th build of ICS from Quarx, and have only experienced this issue on this ROM, however I have not tried going to another version to see if it's something I viewed/downloaded.
Every once in awhile I get a notification, it looks exactly like a smaller version of the Messaging app's icon. The title says something like "Faster, Better" etc. and once I click on it there is an image of an ad for UC Browser 8. It only happens when I have internet, but all I can do is swipe the notification and wait for it to happen again.
There is a folder in the root of my SD card called Joy. Inside are three more folders: Cache, PopAd, and config. Nothing in Cache, PopAd includes the ADucweb_en.jpg image that pops up. In config there is dk.pro, popAd.config, running.config, and sys.config.
When I delete the folder, it reappears once the ad pops up- which seems to coincide with why I always need internet when the ad pops up.
Any advice on how to handle this? It's annoying and could be simply malware (AVG finds nothing wrong) but it seems to be a total breach of privacy and security that a folder is able to redownload itself continuously against the user's wishes. I'm unaware if this has anything to do with the person/people behind UC Browser 8, but I feel I need to contact them as well for malicious advertising by someone.
I had these same notifications happening, and found those files too. After installing "Addons Detector" I found that these were coming from an app I'd recently installed called "Mission Impossible FREE" (com.letang.game109.en).
I wonder if there's a better way to identify the app that creates a notification. Nearly anonymous notifications seem like an easy spam vector. It'd be nice if a long press on a notification message gave identifying details about it's origin.

problem solved
same problem here. thx to another member, i now know how to remove it permanently. when the ad pops up, take note of the game/app that it's advertising. go to market and find its developer. then check and see if you have any of their app/game installed in your phone. just uninstall them and you'll be able to delete the joy folder permanently. and the ad will never pop up again.
the developer that's making these ads in my phone is call LeTang, Inc. i think it's the same for you.

"Just Once" & "Always" Options are missing in activity Chooser

"Just Once" & "Always" Options are missing in activity Chooser
After updating to Marshmallow (SM-G900H) the activity chooser doesn't show the options to select just once or always. I have multiple apps that can handle a single file. But, when I select a single application, it's automatically set as default. I have to clear the default in order to open it in another. Eventhough it's useful for the users who uses limited apps, They can select "always" if there is an option.
It's really frustrating & killing the freedom of switching between apps.
There are so many similar reports all around the world in S6 as well. The most of the suggested workaround is to use "Better Open With". But, that won't work with many uncommon extension. For example I want to open an xml file. I usually use HTML viewer for better viewing experience & to validate. But, want to open with Quick Text Editor for editing. Since It Openwith can't handle, I have to clear the defaults everytime.
How many of you have similar issues...?

I miss that option after upgrading to marshmallow
Yes it's frustrating to always clear defaults to use another app
We may have to emphasize this issue, if we needs this feature back to marshmallow.
I have already contacted samsung india support team & they have replied that they will forward it to the development team. Got a reference number too.
Until or unless it's emphasized Samsung will never care.

Customizing LineageOS 7.1.2 App Chooser

I have a rather peculiar problem with the app choose tab that pops up whenever I try to open a file that has no app associated to it.
In older Android versions it used to be that I could just click on the name of my favourite app that would suffice to have it open up the file for me.
That has the huge advantage, that I can still choose to use a different app next time around.
That still seems to work with stock Android 7.1 on my Samsung Note 8, but not so in LineageOS 7.1.2 on my P900.
There I must actually click one of the two options of "Just Once" or "Always" - nothing else will do.
That leaves me with the incredibly bothersome task of having to navigate myself all the way through the settings menu, should I ever in haste push the "Always" button.
Is there any way or modification that would make LineageOS behave like standard Android in this way and/or an easier means to undo the effect of pushing "Always"?
Thx in advance for any help with this.
Nobody got any idea here?

Default app and notification settings being ignored

Color OS v.6
Been wrestling with some really infuriating problems with this phone since i bought it 4 months ago.
Default apps are ignored when clicking links via Chrome or Google search - if I select Waze as open by default for maps, and select DO NOT OPEN for Google maps, it will always open Google maps when I click a map or directions. If I select do not open for YouTube and either always open or always ask for newpipe or YouTube vanced, it will always open YouTube links in YouTube. It just completely ignores the settings
Opening via Firefox will work sort of, but for some reason FF have added a little 'open in app' button step so you have to load the web page for YouTube then select the android button for it to bring up the select app dialog, so it's rubbish and frankly a deal breaker. Also this doesn't work for directions, neither Maps or Waze are options for directions, bizarrely.
Another thing thats frustrating is that it forgets notification settings. If I set a notification as unimportant, like a battery usage alert or WhatsApp web is open, it will appear again an hour later.
Does anyone else get these issues? You could argue the first one is a chrome/google issue, but i have never had this problem on other androids. My OnePlus works fine for example
If anyone has a solution to these, I would be grateful for hear it. At the moment I am done with Color OS weirdness and considering a custom rom (if one exists)
Edit: Actually I can't get it to open any app via chrome. Everything opens in chrome. Tried resetting everything but it won't work.
