Flashing a Note3, asking for help... - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

First, I have installed a ROM on my phone before and I followed very specific instructions. I am a developer in the land of microsoft so I recognize I am very much a newbie here.
Now, on to what I have now and what I want to do.
1. I have a Note 3. The SM-N9005. The baseband version is: N900W8.... suffice to say it is a canadian phone. If the rest of the baseband numbers are important I will post them, just ask.
2. I want to install the Alliance ROM, it seems to have what I am looking for.
3. When I rooted and ROMed my phone years ago I used the following thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2614772
4. Currently my phone is running a Jedi ROM from the vintage of that thread. However I must have made a mistake back then because the Hotspot feature does not work. Making the hotspot feature work again is my primary reason for undertaking this operation. The 4G works, I can use the Internet on the phone just fine. The wireless works I can connect to a wireless signal and use the internet that way (I confirmed this was working with mobile data off). The hotspot will allow a connection from a device (such as my laptop), but no data passes between the 4G connection and the connected computer.(yes, I turned on Mobile Data On) I have tried this using different computers connected to the hotspot to confirm it is the fault of the Note3.
Back when I did this flashing thing before I had to be careful to get the right CSC file and modem file and a few other steps. I had to specify the correct CSC file in addition to the rom I wanted to flash.
With that background, my questions are below (if you need any more info to point me in the right direction, just ask):
One last note... I will be performing any and all instructions from a macbook pro Mid 2012 with no other devices on the usb host controller running a near virgin copy of windows 7.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Do I need to worry about CSC files, modem files and so on to Flash to Alliance ROM and still have everything work? I ran across a thread that said that some ROMs have all the CSC files in them, but I cannot find any direct information (or I missed it) about the Alliance ROM with regards to CSC files and the like.
I thought I had TWRP installed, but when I boot to recovery the top two lines read
line1: Android system recovery <3e>
line2: KOT49H.N9005XXUENB4
Is this TWRP? Should I download the latest TWRP for my device and flash it using the AP button from Odin 3.10? If there is a different technique I should use, I will try it.
The instructions say that if I am not installing from stock 4.4.2 or stock 5.0 that I should install stock first, then install the alliance rom. I visited the sammobile website and there are no ROMs for the USA or Canada there... am I missing something or should I just use the UK ROM from that website? I guess I am not sure how to identify the correct ROM for Canada.
I did load the Alliance ROM 8.2 onto my SD card and attempted to use the option apply update from external storage and it failed. Nothing happened at all and the phone eventually rebooted and the ROM never installed.
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide me on this endeavour. I am largely looking for resources that I have not been able to find up until now. I am okay with help such as Read This Post! and so on.

If the phone is an n9005, not sure how the baseband can be n900w8 as the n9005 was never sold by Canadian carriers as far as I know.
Here's a link to the stock n900w8 firmware: http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/database/SM-N900W8/

First of all, you should detect what device you own. You can install this APP and add some screenshots for avoid problems and give us more info about your device (IMEI not necessary).
We will try to detect if you own a clone, a SM-N9005 or SM-N900W8.

Additional Info as requested
Here are the screenshots that were requested. Thanks for your help. Yes, I will and continue to use the thanks button as well.

I think you should flash the stock rom first via ODIN. Coz your baseband don't fit with your bootloader and your PDA either.
PS: You can use MEGA mirror as well :highfive:

I have the stock ROM from SamMobile. I am set to flash the phone. I have everything set but I searched the forum as a final check to make sure I am doing the right things and I found a post that says I need a PIT file. I can find a PIT file for HLTE verizon phones but I do not know if that PIT file works with the image I downloaded from sammobile. Of course I am connecting the dots from the info program I ran where is says on the general tab that the phone is of type hlte.
When I click on PIT in Odin it says this function is for engineers only. As a programmer myself I would put a message like that for a function I don't want people using needlessly but it does give me pause to ask about it. As they say Flash in Haste...Cry at Leisure..

Many thanks to you all. I have installed the stock ROM and it works. I can make phone calls, wifi works, 4g works, and hotspot works.. YAYA... Now, I would do the alliance rom but I can honestly say I am not sure I want to mess with it. I want the phone call recording feature but that is all I want...It would be the only reason to do the alliance rom. And it appears as though that rom is not done the same way as the stock rom as there is no md5 file.
anyhow.. thanks again to all who helped. I have thanked each post as well. If you have some tips based on my above info, I would be very grateful.

There are quite a lot of call recording apps which work well as far as I know, ACR being one of the example.

Only tar or tar.md5 files are flashed in Odin. Any non-stock ROMs are flashed using a custom recovery.
You can flash a custom recovery to your phone using Odin in the PDA/AP box from here: https://twrp.me/Devices/ Just use the latest tar file.
Once you have a custom recovery on the phone, you can create a backup of your existing ROM, then flash a custom ROM.

[Q] Hong Kong 32GB n9005 and PIT

I want to flash an Aussie ROM on my HK 32GB n9005. I've been doing some reading and what I think I need to do is as follows...
ghibli3's thread at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2550823 specifically addresses this issue and thanks to those contributing there and elsewhere.
Now to check I understand what they are saying before I brick my phone.
I have these:
CSB_signed_HLTE_EUR_OPEN_32G_0718.pit
CSB_signed_HLTE_EUR_OPEN_32G_0805.pit
ghibli3-N9005.pit
ratcom-N9005.pit
I also used ghibli3's N9005-SaveMyPit from http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=2426123&d=1385903491 to get a copy of my current pit.
I have my original HK MI7 stock, a HK stock MK2 (used to root my phone originally using RDLV) and both an MI7 and MJ7 Aussie ROMs.
So... here is what I think I need to do... Please let me know if this is correct or tell me how to do it better.
Using Odin and with phone in DL mode, USB Debugging on, Samsung drivers and ADB setup on PC...
1. Load a PIT file in [PIT] in Odin and tick [Re-Partition] then [Start]
(1st question, do I reboot the phone or just go to the next step?)
2. Follow RDLV steps to flash the Aussie MJ7 to root the phone.
(2nd question, should I drop back to the MI7 version for the root operation? I don't think it is needed as when I rooted my phone with HK version, I had HK MI7 on the phone and used HK MK2 to root it)
(3rd question, I have Kies 3 on my PC - should I uninstall it before doing any of this or might it be helpful to have it still installed?)
OK, so no comments so far... let's try a slightly different approach.
(4th question, Can I load the PIT into Odin, tick [Re-Partition] and add in the VEGA version of the AP (from RDLV) and then flash them as one?

For using PIT file, you need to add the PIT to Odin when you flash so it'll repartition as it's flashing. However, don't take that as a solid cause I am not 100% sure myself as I haven't messed with PIT files (yet) - but from what I have read that is how it is done. - Have a scan through the HK bricked (solved) threads to be doubley sure cause yeah, it's easy to end up with a brick
Thanks for that. Kinda what I was planning to do but I'm not sure if I do the PIT flash first then do the rest or if I do it all as one process. I'll check out that thread... been looking anywhere I could find a PIT reference.
Well, that was fun... not.
I tried the PIT files with NAND erase all, re-partition f. reset time and Auto reboot all ticked - it failed - I got a systemconnection error. I tried again with each of the PITs listed above except ratcom's - his is from an MJ7 build and I was unsure if that would trip Knox or not.
2 hours pass, with me looking all around XDA and trying a variety of things. Incidentally I think maybe the systemconnect thing might be related to not restarting the phone to get the error screen. It seems Odin can do things when that screen is on that it can't do in plain Download mode. At least, on mine, the eventual fix worked only AFTER I had the error screen (shows the hone pic and a PC pic)
I didn't try flashing CWM. Nor doing anything that might add an MJ7 or KK bootloader. If I trip Knox I want it to be by my choice, not because I can't fix something.
But clearly I am doing something wrong in trying to repartition my phone - none of the PIT flashes worked. None of the flash ROM's worked. I looked around for a MJ3 or less ROM with the 4 files - figured I could get that I could try using a PIT for the right CSC and those files and solve both issues at once.
I tried my MK1 HK Vega image and no go. So I sat and thought it through and realised that last time I had problems I had the error screen NOT download mode so I rebooted the phone and Voila! up popped the error screen. Odin promptly flashed my HK MK1 version and now I am restoring my apps from the extSDcard. Got a bit of setup work to do but it's up and running again.
But I will have to trip Knox now - I'm sick of not having a Nandroid backup that could just restore everything where it was instead of me having to manually put things back as they were.
Any ideas as to what I did wrong?

Follow it to step 6. Then flash whatever ROM you want. Make sure your phone is 32 gigs or more. Won't work on 16 gb version.
So this gets a bit strange now... I downloaded Phone Info from Play Store and ran it. I did that because I noticed I was having Wifi issues - it was working but kept thinking it was off - I'd click it to turn it on and the button wouldn't go green, but I had signal in the Notification bar. Going to Recovery to clear cache showed it was now applying CSC-code as BTU instead of TGY, so SOMETHING worked when I was doing the PITs.
So, Phone Info shows my Region Code as BTU, my CSC country as UK/IRE and my CSC Country ISO as GBBut I have a mix of ROM info:
Bootloader: ZHUBMI7
Baseband: ZHUDMJ9
PDA: XXUDMK2
CSC: OXADMK2
So, PDA and CSC are from a UK MK2 I tried to use early on and failed with, while BL and BB are from the original HK MI7 (BL) and the HK MK1 I rooted with.
So my question is now, can I now flash a BTU or other normal ROM onto my phone, using the RDLV process to make sure I get root and don't trip Knox?
IIRC I think the process works up to MK2 (and certainly does to MK1 as that what I used originally) so I should be able to DL (say) XXUBMJ1 to use for the BL and use XXUDMK2 for the root process. (i.e. the same as I did using HK MI7 for the BL and HK MK1 for the root process)
3 questions:
1. Is it the PDA that determines the partition Hong Kong users have such problems with? Or is it the Bootloader?
2. Can anyone think of a reason why this would not work? (now my CSC is BTU)
3. Could I now use an Aussie ROM to run the RDLV process?

Thanks for the Reply.
For now I'd prefer to stay away from KK ROMs - too many people having issues, and the prevention of returning to 4.3 is, to me, a killer until Samsung get the bugs out. Given that many people are doing OK with KK, I think it is unlikely Samsung will do much about the bugs until a larger number of people have problems and start bombarding their support lines.
Plus, on 4.3 I have a very fast phone that gives more than 2 days use even with fairly heavy use (for me) and up to 4 days for light use. Why make an irreversible change when the phone is doing well already? For me the next step is custom recovery - I don't like not having a Nandroid BU and several times now after restoring apps I find I need to fix permissions - without custom recovery that means a laborious uninstall/reinstall from Play Store, one app at a time. Pisses me off...
I find it interesting that Samsung are clearly using users such as XDA members as their testing area, while at the same time shutting down the activities we like to do. (Custom ROMs etc) I say clearly using us because otherwise there is no excuse for the regularity of leaked ROMs - Samsung pass it on to us to try and I would bet, have staff watching us to see what issues we have.
So it seems a bit counter-productive to work so hard to lock the phones so we can't play with them.

You need the international pit file in your phone. Flashing the CSC file will put that pit in your phone. It won't touch the bootloader or the system files.

Unfortunately, PIT's don't seem to come easy. As above I have about 4 of them I tried. There seems a bit of a disconnect between what the AP/CP/CSC are and what the files in a ROM are e.g. in XXUBMH1 there's boot.img, recovery.img, system.img.ext4, userdata.img.ext4, persdata.img.ext4, persist.img.ext4 and in XXUBMI7 there's sbl1.mbn, aboot.mbn, rpm.mbn, tz.mbn, sdi.mbn, NON-HLOS.bin, boot.img, recovery.img, system.img.ext4, modem.bin, cache.img.ext4, hidden.img.ext4
While I've been around a while now, this seems to be a blank spot for me at present - how do I flash a CSC? From reading it seems some ROM.s come with 4 or 5 files, e.g. see attachment - but I haven't been able to find one yet. (the one in the pic was hosted on Hotfiles which is now defunct thanks to the Almighty USA draconian control freaks. )
Update: I think I have found a copy of it so I can try that when it finishes DL'ing.
Other than that, anyone know of where there might be another such ROM to DL? Also if I am flashing a CSC file do I flash the PIT as well (i.e. at the same time) or do the PIT first?
Which Odin options get ticked for a PIT? I tried [F. Reset Time] [Re-Partition] [Auto Reboot] [Nand Erase All] previously and it didn't seem to work. I saw a recovery type post that suggested ticking [Phone EFS Clear] but seems to me that is a tick towards Brick - and the Recovery being offered was to a KK ROM anyway.

I just looked at your post again - I realise I might have a wrong idea. Although the leaked ROM is KK, I was assuming flashing the CSC would upgrade my phone - is that the case or can I use your 6 steps just to change my PIT and then do the 4.3 RDLV process to have a root 4.3 phone?
Downloading it now - started with the torrent but that's running slow; I will let it run to completion to maybe help some others get it faster but I've got the Storage Cow one running as well. We'll see which one arrives first Either way I'll leave it seeding.

Yeah, you should be able to.
I tried flashing the MK2 ROM after flashing that CSC. It worked perfectly. But then I upgraded to kitkat. So I can't test JB stuff anymore.

Well, it let me flash the vega BTU MK2 ROM but now there's a wifi problem. Still waiting for cygwin to download so I can RDLV on the XSA ROM. There seems to be some kind of conflict between BTU and Australian settings. Says to turn on wireless and actually finds my SSID's but then doesn't connect properly. le sigh...
Well it's been coming up to 24 hours with no phone but I seem to have found my way.
The problem seems to have been a mismatch between BL, CSC and PIT. In trying to get off the Hong Kong set up I wound up with a ZHU BL, BTU CSC and XSA CP and AP. It worked but I had no wifi. tried a few things to get it working and in trying to flash an XSA CSC (I think it was XSA) I got the Knox bit change. With no wifi I thought maybe the problem was the BUT-based CP needed changing. In trying to fix that, somehow I triggered Knox
I tried DL & Install of Omega 6 (it's a 4.3 - not ready to go KK yet) but although it completed nicely (so many ROM's got hidden or system errors in Odin) the phone didn't start. I tried installing Philz so I could run things from the extSDcard but an XSA wouldn't work nor would anything I had below MJ7. Last Phone Info view I had I still had a ZHU CP, even though AP and CSC were XSA-based.
Finally I got the MJ7 ROM from http://forum.xda-developers.com/sho...9005xxudmj7-pre-rooted-knox-free-odex-bl-free and it did the trick.
It's been a learning experience but I'd be happier if I knew for sure both what triggered the Knox bit (I was being very careful about it) and why some of the other ROM installs simply didn't work.
Resurrecting this one because I'm looking for info on flashing my 32G HK Note 3, but it came with KK pre-installed. So I'm not sure what differences I have to be aware of. Any tips?
For whoever still experiences issues with HK 32GB n9005 devices, After wasting half a day on that crap, i was able to flash N9005ZSUGOK2_N9005OZSGOK2_TGY from sammobile coupled with the PIT attached.

[Q] Samsung Galaxy S4 I337 AT&T Stuck on Boot (SOLVED!)

Hello,
Problem:
I own a Samsung Galaxy S4 I337 model from AT&T with a locked bootloader. While using safestrap I accidentally checked the /system folder while wiping the STOCK ROM. I didn't yet have another working ROM loaded onto the phone (Safestrap allows you to boot from multiple different ROMS). My phone now freezes at the Samsung logo when I try to boot normally, and I can't reflash the stock ROM in download mode as the bootloader is still locked (I can, however, boot into download mode).
My phone is recognized by ADB which (theoretically) means I can push files back to the device. I haven't yet tried although I'm afraid it may not work as only 2/3 drivers successfully install on my computer when I plug the phone in.
My request from the great tech gods at XDA Forums:
1) If anyone can please reply with any ideas/solutions to my problem I would greatly appreciate it. (PLEASE, ANYTHING. I'M DESPERATE!)
2) If anyone could supply me with a download for the Galaxy s4 I337 /system folder I could attempt to use ADB to push it onto the phone and reboot. WARNING: I'm not an expert on Android and know nothing about the /system folder. Using the /system folder from your personal phone could supply me with very personal information about you/your phone. Please only do this if you know what you're doing!
My ideas:
1) Use android ADB to push the missing files back to my phone, although I don't know if I deleted the entire /system folder or just select things inside it. Also I can't find any downloads for a /system folder anywhere on the Internet.
2) Take it back to AT&T and play dumb. Hopefully they can at least temporarily unlock the bootloader to reflash the stock ROM for me.
Any ideas are GREATLY appreciated,
JT
PS: If you need any more information please leave a reply and I will update the post ASAP. :good:
EDIT: I am running 4.3 Jellybean. Also in answer to your response, I can't flash the firmware again as the bootloader is locked. (Unless I'm missing something and you know more than me, I'm no expert.)
EDIT 2: Looks like I may be wrong and you can reflash the stock ROM on my locked bootloader. Also, for future responses, my S4 has the MF3 baseband although I'll try the thread you suggested. (With the files for my device of course)
EDIT 3: Having trouble flashing stock firmware again with ODIN even though I've now been told that it's possible, read below for more details. I think it's due to the PIT file or the fact that I was running 4.3 and I believe I am trying to flash back to 4.2.2. Please help!
SOLVED: Thanks to ted77usa, I flashed the MK2 stock ROM to my phone through ODIN and this time everything went without a hitch. THANKS A TON!
Also if any mods want to move/delete/do whatever with this post feel free to do so, I don't see this post being very useful for educational purposes as my logic on locked bootloaders was wrong and I don't want people getting the wrong idea.
What firmware are you on? I'd Odin flash the tar files for that firmware.

You can use ODIN just fine on the locked bootloaders. Follow the directions in the MK2 TARs thread in the general section.

I followed the thread exactly as it said but it failed. Then I included the the PIT file but still failed. I've attached a screenshot of ODIN after I tried with the PIT file.
EDIT: My phone is giving a message that reads: "SECURE CHECK FAIL : PIT" I read that PIT files have to be signed with a device-specific key to work, although it seems that most people aren't having a problem using one found off of the Internet. Any ideas?
EDIT 2: I believe those files are for 4.2.2, I was running 4.3, is this the issue? Also I don't know if my phone was updated OTA or not, I bought it from eBay. :/

@JTrocks ....If u are on 4.3 rom it mean that either u took OTA to MK2 firmware and then someone either u or the seller from ebay flash the modem back to MF3 to complete SIM UNLOCKED( if u ever sim unlocked ) .........either way just follow my thread..........

Thanks for the reply, but before I go any further I should clarify some information about my phone. I bought an AT&T Samsung Galaxy S4 from eBay, when I got the phone it was running 4.3. The catch: My phone isn't actually on AT&T service OR SIM unlocked (I think), I'm with a cell provider called NET 10. How NET 10 works is that it pays AT&T to run off of their service, NET 10 is cheaper for the customers because it isn't as fast as AT&T. AT&T and Net 10 have an agreement where you can take any phone from AT&T and hook it up to NET 10 without unlocking it. Although I think that NET 10 may unlock your phone when you hook it up to their service, I'm not sure. What makes my think that is that when I booted my phone up after transferring to NET 10, a picture of an open padlock appeared under the Samsung logo.
Being on NET 10 may have changed some of that, specifically the MF3/MK2 baseband. Not being an expert on basebands and how they correlate to your cell service provider, will following your instructions result in not being able to connect to NET 10's service? It's probably a stupid question, I know, but with my minimal knowledge I figured I should ask before I followed through with anything.

It shouldn't. Your phone is the same model, and the firmware appears to be the same. At most you might have to put in an APN to get your mobile data back.

Thanks, I'm aware of the APN. I had SEVERAL issues with NET 10 when I first set that up. (THEY MISSPELLED THE F****** IP ADDRESS ON THEIR WEBSITE!) Still frustrated about that one. D:<
I'm now preparing to follow through with ted77usa's instructions. Sorry if I respond slow, I have to wait 5 minutes after each post/edit as I haven't been approved by a mod yet.
EDIT: I may have to continue this tomorrow, the site ted77usa used to host the .tar files is pretty slow. The download is going to take an hour and it's getting late here. I can't believe how much support I'm getting from everyone, thanks a TON! I'm clicking the thanks button on everyone who's helped me, it's the least I can do!

I have tried mutiple wipes and facotry resets but same outcome, hangs at atnt screen. i creeped around the threads and found this. My first question is did Ted77usa files from his link take forever for you also? and second how many attmepts did it take with odin?

It took about an hour for me to download ted77usa's files but I have relatively fast internet (16 mb/ps). As soon as the files downloaded it worked first try, are you in download mode? If you are and it's still not working you may need the PIT file and to make sure that re-partition is checked along with the 2 others that ted77usa mentioned.
drivers finished

spftbricked Telus S4

So a few days ago i downloaded a rom for my Telus SGH-i337m which gave me apps and the features from the S5. I installed it and all that, but then it failed. So i tried to use my back up but it was corrupted as well. So I thought i can go online and find a stock image, i found many, but then I think i installed the image for a GT505 by accident. This gave me my software back but then i could't use my wifi or my data. So i found a proper SGH-i337m rom and installed it, my wifi came back but my data didnt. I thought it was because of the wrong modem, so i installed a few different modems and nothing worked. But today when i downloaded a different modem and installed it using odin mobile pro. It was installing and it rebooted, but then it got stuck there with the ODIN logo. I removed the battery and turned the phone on but not it says "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue..... please connect to kies". I tried connecting to kies but couldn't.
if someone could provide me with fully stock firmware and modem with easy instructions i would appreciate it, I'm so cheesed of my phone not working now
Did you have a custom recovery installed? Have you tried to go into recovery? Vol up home power. Make sure Samsung drivers are installed on your computer. Save a rom on your computer that you know works and place it on the sd card of your phone. Install rom. Try a stock rom version. Maple leaf by ib4stid would be a good one.
I just reread. Sorry I don't think my suggestion will help. Good luck.

what do you mean? you need to create an account to be able to download. hope u got it sorted or by now
If you can give smoe more information about if you have a custom recovery installed (which one), can you connect to PC and move files to the external sd card, which modem you have installed and does the phone boot at all?
The procedure should be, root... download rom, ensuring it is for the i337m and not the i337 (2 different models) install custom recovery (I like TWRP (shouold be version 2.6 or lower.. some suggest 2.5 see mapleleaf rom OP..... others use Philz recovery... I don't have any experience with that).... install rom... let it boot up and run for a few minutes... then if you dont have the proper modem install the NC1 modem found on this forum...(I never flash the nonhalos file) I like to use Odin PC rather than moblie Odin... make sure you take off auto reboot as the flash takes longer than Odin allows before rebooting... You may need to enter your APN settings in settings... wrong APN's will result in no data...
As for roms, I would start with Maple leaf and see what you think... If you need to go back to stock, sam mobile roms are all Bell so you will see some Bell software (not to worry) and you will need to enter your APN's... then you can install a custom rom... again can't stress enough to choose one that is for i337m
The other thing you want to watch is bootloader versions.... once you go up in versions.. you can't go back...
Thanks for the help! I don't know how that I forgot the fact that I have a TelusS4 with a Wind sim in it, and cuz I formatted the phone and crashed the software, the bandwidths went to the stock Telus ones. But then I used a software and now I can use my wind sim on my phone!
Btw what are the best roms out there that look completely stock but provide tons of new features?

Stock roms, I use Mapleleaf, I have also tried Google Play edition by Danvh but went back to maple leaf. I take it you are now back to stock and rooted, before you flash a rom, make sure you do a backup of your current stock rom so you have a easy way to go back. Make sure you back up your imei files also... might come in handy some day... I did both a full backup plus a seperate back up og just the iemi file... like i said before.... if you entend on going backwards from 4.4.3 or 4.4.2 to anything else do not change your bootloader... before you flash a rom make sure it will not change your bootloader... if it is going to i suggest you unzip the rom, remove the bootloader file and rezip then flash... it is up to you though... there is no going backwards on bootloaders......

[Q] Downgrading from 5.0 back to 4.4.2 UK

Hey all,
I have tried searching about this on the forum, but I can't seem to find anything solid. And I'm a novice at that.
I made the mistake of auto updating my S5 to Lollipop and my phone is seriously laggy, wont respond at times battery drains very quickly etc etc.
I've looked into ways of downgrading back to 4.4.2 and I'm sure I can use Odin and possibly Kies.
Kies seems like the easier option, can you downgrade using it? Through Tools, then Firmware Upgrade and initialization? Or will it restore it to the current version 5.0?
Odin seems to be more difficult, I've seen comments on how it hasn't worked out and I don't want to muck my phone up I've only had it this year, this procedure wont void the warranty will it?
Going through SamMobile on country, my carrier is o2UK would I select o2 or BTU? As I'm sure my phone shipped unlocked. (bought it through o2)
Would I need to also download a 7Zip driver? Or use the stock one which comes with Windows?
I've backed the phone up using Kies3.0, I'm just scared about using Odin.
This may seem ridiculous to you, but I would really appreciate any help, or tips.
Thanks.
All the info you need is in multiple threads all over this forum, just read some

I have a idea how to do it, just some reassurance would be nice, and if you look at my original post I ask several questions hoping someone can answer them?
I have found no threads with these type of questions.

Reply to your questions:
Kies will not restore previous version of firmware. It will restore only current settings and what you have checked to be backuped.
Using odin will not void your warranty.
In About Phone - there is version of your number this is relevant if you want to flash original 02 rom.
Windows embeded zip functions are enough to unpack firmware.
Thanks for clearing that up,
So if anybody could please confirm I have the procedure down correctly?
1) back up device
2) Install Kies Driver
3) Download 4.4.2 o2 SM-G900F stock rom
4) unzip/extract Downloaded file
5) Install Odin v3.09
6) Unzip/extract Odin and run as administrator
7)Paste Md5 file in AP/PDA
8) Turn off device, and hold down vol/pwr to activate download mode
9) connect device to PC
10) First box should turn blue
11) click start
12) Couple mins should show pass
13) factory reset device from recovery mode
14) All done?
PLEASE let me know if I have missed something, or should do it differently.
Thank you very much
Anybody?
As far as I remember the procedure you wrote is pretty much correct. At the 8th point - it should be: 'Vol -' + 'Home' + 'Power'. And before clicking start in the odin make sure 're-partition' is not ticked. I did downgrade on my s5 couple of days ago - Lollipop is terrible... , but I encountered some problems... Just after turning on fresh and clean KitKat I turned off Android auto-update option and couple of minutes later - bang, phone is downloading the lollipop again. I'm furious. Any ideas?
That sucks! First thing I did after the download was turn off auto-update.
Hope this doesn't happen to me, seems pointless to do it otherwise.
I hope I don't muck this up
Can't add much to your list or what's been additionally suggested........
Except......
Make sure kies is NOT running......go to windows task manager and kill any processes that mention kies.
Turn off anti virus and firewalls before starting the flash.
Sent from my rooted kn0x0 SM-G900F S5
very helpful indeed, was looking for downgrading.

H3G firmware reboots after instaling any rom

Hi all. I'm not a newbie. I've been rooting phones since galaxy s2 and I think I'm pretty good in it. A friend of mine is using n9005 in UK that was locked on three uk and he asked me if I could root his device and make it look better with some note 7 ported rom. I asked him to unlock the phone with his network provider and he did it. After all he could put any carrier's sim card and use it. I managed to install philz cwm and latest supersu and all was good until I installed a rom. The phone started rebooting as soon as I put a sim card. Any sim card. I tried different roms and the phone behaved exactly the same. With no sim card the phone worked like a charm. Is there any way I can install a rom and make it work and behave like a phone. Before posting the thread I tried to find the solution myself checking throughout the internet but with no success. Any help would be more then welcome and appreciated.
I recommend using twrp as many newer roms require it for installation.

Check what information? Odin is used for stock ROM and twrp is often used for custom roms.

The guy said he already flashed and used Philz recovery to try some custom roms.
Thanks for the clarification.
Philz and cwm have not been updated for a long time and all recent custom roms need twrp which is why I suggested using twrp.

I have no doubt in your good will
I just wanted to say that TWRP is not mandatory for flashing new ROMs.
Even if he is old, Philz is perfectly capable of handling Aroma installers, while the latest available versions of TWRP can't, as you know.
The most recent roms use the same install scripts that date back to years.
Depending on the ROM, twrp is recommended by the developer and the op's problem may be related to using cwm as the recovery. I'm not saying cwm is the problem but the possibility exists.
Guys I didn't want to stir up a hornet's nest. I appreciate your both advises but I don't think that it's a problem with a sort of recovery. By the way I tried TWRP but the phone just seemed to not accept any other recovery then Philz. Like I mentioned earlier I successfully managed to root the device, what I didn't mention was that I managed even to install stock firmware different then H3G from Three UK via odin and while rooted, the phone was working just fine. But when I installed roms (darklord, aryamode and fake nougat ) the phone just went crazy after inserting a sim card. When looking for the solution on internet I found information about changing PIT file. So I found the PIT file proper for the UK area and tried it but I almost bricked the phone definitely. Fortunately I managed to bring it back to normal but like I mentioned it works with a sim card on stock rooted firmware.
You confirmed the model number in download mode?
Did you use Odin to install twrp?
I'm not sure why the phone would not accept twrp as it has been used on the n9005 by XDA members for a while.
Darklord and Arayamod can use Philz or twrp because they use aroma installers. Did you try a rom that doesn't use aroma?
If the pit file is for the phone and you are flashing it with the proper version of Odin and stock ROM, not sure why it would cause a near brick. What error message did you get in Odin?
Yes I confirmed the model and yes I used odin the latest version. Unfortunately I wasn't much interested with the message odin gave after I installed PIT fie but came as failed milliseconds after I pressed start button. I don't know maybe it wasn't 100% proper PIT file. But the most interested fact is that before installing roms the phone worked and behaved properly with different sim cards and didn't want to after. Right now I can't try other roms as I had to give the phone back but as soon I have it back I will try different roms without aroma and maybe I'll start from something lighter then ported roms, and then if I succeed maybe i'll be able to flash ported roms. I had the phone only for a couple of hours and I didn't have time to try other roms. I focused on n7 ported ones because that what a friend of mine wanted and I didn't take into account the fact that it might cause so many issues. But thanks for your help anyway.
