Anyone else noticing a recent issue where chrome won't load Web pages over cellular data? Or very slow data response from some apps (but not all) again over cellular? I'm on Verizon Wireless, and have had issues for two days now. Not sure if it is the phone or VZW.

No issues in the UK on GiffGaff.
Is it better on WiFi? If yes, then probably need to call Verizon, if no, its probably something with your phone.
No issues with wifi. Guess I'll be spending some time with VZW tech support. Issue comes and goes so tough to replicate.

I was so used to doing this on my iPhone using AT&T. Is this possible on verizon? If im on a lengthy call, after i hang up a stream of txts and email start to come in as if it was just waiting for me to hang up.

Practically? No. It's a limitation of the CDMA technology. It can carry Voice *or* data, but not both.
Technically? Yes. Download a SIP or Skype client, and run VoIP (which is just Data). Don't think it's very practical though.
You can if you have an active wifi connection. I do it all the time at work cause i get put on hold for what seems like hours some days.

I do wifi at home and work so the limitation isn't too bad. Of course 4g will fix this, but not for this phone.

I believe AT&T is the only network that allows voice and data at the same time currently, but i know for sure that Verizon doesn't allow such things sadly...

Not just at&t, all 3g gsm based carrier can transfer voice and data at the same time, so t-mobile can do this also.
Boooo

T-mobile does allow both data and voice at the same time. Sadly their network nation wide is terrible. If I travel between cities, which I do alot. I lose connection CONSTANTLY. Causing issues with Pandora, Navigation using Google Nav, etc.
My wife and I are in the process of selling out Nexus Ones and moving to Verizon due to this sadly. I loved my N1 and so did she.
Maybe my Droid X and her Droid Incredible will fill that Google love gap.
The no data and voice does kinda stink. We used that more than you'd think.
Especially when driving with our device attached to the car's Bluetooth Sync.
Google Nav & Pandora Running while be able to accept and send new calls
through the cars bluetooth was very nice and convenient. Works great with our Ford Edge.
I just migrated from an iPhone 3GS on ATT to a Droid X on VZW. I have to say... I'd rather have a phone on a network that could do a great job with voice or data one at a time than a network that in many instances couldn't do either reliably (but could do then both at once).

Agreed. Id rather have a device that does two things separately very well than a device that is terrible doing them separately or together at the same time.
Was visiting some friends at a starbucks earlier and noticed some icon in the notifications bar that I hadn't seen before. Pulled down the bar and found out that they have a special icon/notification for when you connect to an AT&T wife hotspot.
Just wondering if anyone else noticed this. Seems like another unnecessary thing they added just to remind you this phone is from AT&T. Has anyone removed this? Anyone with gingerblur tested this/want to test this out?
Was across the street from a McDonalds with at&t wifi. Saw symbol on notification bar, assumed that's what it was for.

Kind of a late response but... It is not a useless app. If I use a non-AT&T device at McDonalds on their Wi-Fi I have to go through their policy acceptance screens each time I go there...
With an AT&T device that icon/app gets me right into their network w/o having to go through the agreement screens.
I found this post because I was looking for a way to get that wifi connection app on to my Sprint Galaxy Tab.
As an AT&T data customer you get free access to their network of WiFi hotspots. Very much not useless.

I would much rather it use wifi than my data and battery.

hi everyone....used to be a regular on here when i had my captivate, but then the s3 and my current s4 i never modded in any way......anyway...my att s4 will not keep my home wifi info and loses connection at times....is there any way to fix this?
If it only happens on your home Wi-Fi it's an issue with it. Try upgrading the firmware on it.
no
it has to be phone side becausee there are numerous things on wifi that are not effected
Few questions first to help,
Is your router a single or dual band router?
Does it drop and than reconnect, or is it dropping and not finding?
Sent from my SGH-I337 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
it drops and then i have to retype the password
i think it is dual band
WiFi has been crap on my s4 since day one. Constantly drops or slows significantly on N or AC or G networks. I tried 3 routers and I have dozens of other devices with no problems. Countless times a day I have to toggle WiFi on and off to restore speed for another 5,10 or 15 minutes. YouTube is the worst. It just hangs when the phone drops to 1-3 Mbps down from 30. This happened on stock and all stock like ROMs. WiFi is this phones tragic flaw. The problem gets no attention online because people think it only pertains to dlink routers which is completely untrue.

well
well i figured out my problem i think...it may be your problem as well
is yours on att as well?
if so there is a app called att smart wifi...this is what was causing my issues....however the phone(even stock) will let you remove this app
I am on att, I don't have it. I have something frozen called ATT hotspots. But nothing called Att smart WiFi.

T-Mobile includes tethering in almost every plan they have. What's the issue? Source: I have T-Mobile.

I have unlimited data, which caps at 500mb, I'm looking for unrestricted native tethering....

From searching around XDA, your biggest problem is that T-Mobile seems pretty decent at detection unlike some other carriers. I tethered for years on att and never had a problem. There are ways, but nearly all of them have reports of eventually ending up at the T-Mobile upsell page.

Correct but you can use user agent on the browser to make it work. Tmobile detects when using on a computer but not on mobile. I used to change the user agent to safari on mac and it always worked of course. Having a mod to do tethering unlimited
Hey guys,
I'm posting this on behalf of a non-XDA friend who recently switched from iPhone to Samsung. Since he made the switch, he has gone from 1.5GB of data use to roughly 15GB of data use without changing his habits. He's called Verizon (to no avail. Shocking, I know.) He's turned off unused apps. He's changed settings. Nothing seems to work, and I'm out of ideas. Any input you guys might have would be greatly appreciated!!

That's crazy I don't even use 4 most months. Most I think was 7 and that's because of downloading some large files for work. I use Pandora, Facebook, XDA and YouTube everyday with no issues. Does he use google+ at all maybe he has it syncing photos over 4G? Why not just turn on the data restricter in settings so once he gets to a certain amount it cuts him off. He has to be unknowingly doing something maybe a 3rd party messenger app that uses data instead of mobile network

That's a nucking futs amount of data. Does he torrent from his phone? I've accidentally left something seeding before.
Tethering which someone else is using?
Any apps from outside the store?
Iffn it was me I would consider a reset and then only add a few apps back at a time as he needs them while watching data usage.
