See this post.
"If your kernel date is June 3rd or later, you cannot unlock your bootloader."
There's a link in that post that will tell you how to determine the date of the kernel.
See the first post in the first Sticky in the General section: If you have firmware 182/183.46.15, there is currently no way to unlock your bootloader.

Annoying my kernal build date is july 29th with a locke bootloader my phone is usless Developers please do something find a way

You don't need developers, you need security professionals.
Motorola has had the hardest bootloaders to exploit. In fact, Dan Rosenberg was the first to unlock moto bootloaders starting with the Droid Razr M/HD & Atrix HD.
The exploit he used was quickly patched by Motorola on the 2nd Jellybean firmware. So the users that were unlucky and missed the Motopocalypse exploit were S.O.L. for a very long time.
When KitKat finally came out, it was discovered that Motorola forgot to include the TZ patch (with the first .10 firmware) which allowed for Motopocalypse to work again . When discovered, Moto quickly patched and pushed the second build of .10 and finally closing it off with the last .15 firmware.
At this point Razr M users are really lucky to even have root, and I doubt anybody is working on, or planning to work on, a bootloader unlock exploit for this aging device.

There was one root process that changed the kernel date to may something for a couple days. I never thought about it. But seems how I'll be unbrick in my phone and rerooting with the same method I'll be giving it a go this time to double check if it's possible by any means and will post the results for everyone later today

Like I promised. I used hydrogen to root. Re ran it after it rebooted the first time it changed the kernel back to July 29th and this time since I was rooted I didn't reboot. Now trying to figure out how to keep the kernel this time

[attn] root and unlock your 4.4.2 xt926 now!

Hey, go ahead and take the OTA now, and do it NOW because another OTA is on the way that will definitely remove the root exploit which means unlocking your bootloader will be gone.
As SamuriHL and LifeAsDroid have mentioned in other threads, THIS IS A GIFT FROM THE MOTO GODS (an inadvertent gift that wasn't meant to be given to you, but it has been), so PLEASE take it NOW and use it, abuse it, whatever.
BTW, if you're worried about warranty, you already will void it once you root and they have a root checker built in, so they CAN tell if you rooted or not, so if you're going to root, you might as well unlock the bootloader too.
So, go here to root AND unlock your phone. SamuriHL has been keeping new findings up-to-date with this thread, so do it now:
http://www.droidrzr.com/index.php/topic/46155-rootunlock-razr-hdm-build-183-kitkat-towel-root/
Get Towelroot and the latest Motopocalypse files from SamuriHL and unlock your bootloader. Do this NOW because I just received an email today about another upcoming soak test, which means, root WILL be lost (Towelroot only works on kernels dated before June 3rd, 2014) which also means, once you lose root, you cannot use Motopocalypse to unlock your phone AND they'll probably re-patch the unlock exploit again.
So, do it now or forever hold your peace.
There already is a thread for this here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2783912
Thread closed.

2 new OTA updates brought DPK1 to PDL1 to PQA1. Feb 7th 17.

I didn't have root before taking the updates so i'm not sure one could lose root or not. however, I did forfeit my chance to root (at least for the time being) by updating.
Everything (software version, baseband, build #) is updated to DQA1.
Odin (3.12.5) still runs and flashes twrp (3.0.2) but stock recovery is still there.
That's all that I know. Hopefully someone will come along with a quick root solution.
Thanks in advance.
Edit: Mods can feel free to close or merge this because someone already posted here so i'm gonna go ahead and join those guys. Thanks.
Please continue here as per the post above.

Anyone using the Amazon G4 version?

I don't see many people on any of the Moto G4 fórums who have the Amazon G4 ads version. I know there are a few like myself, who were able to unlock the bootloader, before Amazon stopped it.
All info on updates communicated on these forum pertain to the retail version. I would have thought more people would have bought the Amazon discounted version.
It sucks that even with the bootloader unlocked, I cannot flash a retail version of the Stock ROM. Is anyone out there with the Amazon G4 versión?
Please let me know if you are and on what Android build your on? Anyone received the September security update? We're you one of the people who were able to unlock the bootloader?
I have one
I ran MM for a long time, but I just upgraded to the Sept Nougat release fine following the steps from the first post, followed by the second:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g4-plus/how-to/moto-g4-plus-xt1640-43-athene-npj25-93-t3549369
https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g4-plus/how-to/stock-rom-npjs25-93-14-4-march-1-t3608138
I might have been able to just do the second. FWIW, I didn't relock and I did pull out the gpt and bootloader.img lines from the upgrade script.

It's your Moto G4 the Amazon ads version? I am on the June security update NPJ25-93-14.5. I was checking if anyone on the Amazon update channel got the September security update.
Also, I wanted to know if anyone was able to convert the Moto G4 from Amazon to Retail.
I have a xt1625 Amazon Prime ads g4. My phone is bootloader unlocked, rooted, and on Npj25-93-14.4 with the bootloader from retail 93-14-8 from my last attempt to change it from a amz to retus. I haven't yet found a way to use the stock retus rom on the phone, after many attempt and several bricks.

To the prior question, yes mine is an ad-supported XT1625. I unlocked it like day 2 before they stopped supporting it. I ran rooted and ad-free for about a year, then the micro-usb failed and I had to send it in for warranty repair. Moto was nice enough to take it a week after expiration and they sent a replacement - another ad-supported XT1625. That was a few months ago. Sorry I can't confirm how I got the new phone bootloader unlocked, but it is. Software channel shows retus, and I'm running the roms I linked. I do recall seriously bricking it at one point, but I do think if you're bootloader unlocked there is a way to get to retus. Again, sorry I can't recall the journey.

Maybe the replacement they sent had Amazon ad, but the software channel is changed to retus.

By just flashing a retus bootloader you changed the channel to retus? Even with it being retus, you can't flash retus firmware on it?
Anyone with any knowledge on converting the Amazon Prime unlocked bootloader phone from AMZ update channel to retail RETUS?
If the bootloader has been unlock on an Amazon Ads phone, Why can't a retail version be flashed? It's the same firmware that the Retail XT1625 has. Even if the software channel stays AMZ, the retail firmware should work.

Whats your current security update? Are you rooted? I am in need of the stock boot.img of the December or February security update.

[Help Needed] A Fresh Idea to Get Root

Hello XDA community,
This is my first post on here and I hope I'm not doing something wrong in terms of protocol, but I have a rough idea on finding a root for this phone that needs support and refining from you guys, the XDA community.
My idea is this: If we can find a way to downgrade the phone software back to before the December 2016 security patch, we can run a Dirty Cow root exploit (, which is ready to go on GitHub, ) to temp root this device (or any device, in theory). Once we have temp root, we could run a program like SunShine or whatever else to turn that temp root to perm root. (SunShine currently says that, to full root this device, it needs some kind of temp root.)
Now going back to the first part about downgrading the software to before the December 2016 security update, I initially thought we could achieve this through mfastboot or RSD Lite, since they allow flashing of officially signed Motorola firmwares. However, I read that when upgrading the Moto Z, and presumably all other variants, from Android MM to Android N, the (locked) bootloader is updated, too, and will not allow downgrading, resulting in a prevalidaton error. This is where I need your help.
The question is: How can we downgrade the firmware back to MM, or some other before-December firmware, to use Dirty Cow for root. Please leave ANY suggestions in the comments.
Thank you for your time and help. I have faith that we will be able to solve this together.
I don't think you can downgrade. But i've been running this for the past 9 or so months to prevent the forced updates: https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-z-play/themes/app-moto-z-play-apps-stop-ota-motocare-t3538812
(no idea if that would work on the z force)
Well I know there are many videos on YouTube claiming to downgrade certain Moto devices through RSD Lite or mfastboot for different budget Moto devices, but I suspect they are all fake. Nonetheless, I hope there is a legitimate way to downgrade.
I forgot to mention that if you can get a replacement Moto Z Force from Verizon, which is very easy to do in my area, they ship you a refurbished replacement, which runs marshmallow and has no updates installed, but I don't have the opportunity to get another replacement, so for anyone else, that's one way you could "downgrade" and try Dirty Cow to root the device.
I'm just going by this topic https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-z/how-to/dont-upgrade-to-nougat-ota-t3524456
but i don't really know for sure
Wow. Now I wish I'd known about this MUCH sooner. Its too late for me. Well, in that case, try to see if you can revert back to marshmallow if you unofficially upgraded to nougat and check what month of security patches you are on. If it's before the December 2016 security patch, then you can run Dirty Cow and get temporary root. With temp root you can most likely find a way to make it permanent root.

There's no need for crossposting, I gave you an answer in the relock bootloader thread.
And opening a new thread didn't help either.
Your on January security patch and you need that firmware to flash or relock your bootloader.
This firmware isn't uploaded anywhere, only the indian build. So stop asking the same question over and over again, YOU CAN'T DOWNGRADE YOUR BOOTLOADER, IT WILL BRICK YOUR DEVICE.
So you have to live with an unlocked bl and as I posted to you, there's no need to relock it as you never get the status of 'this device has never been unlocked'. Btw, you never posted the reason why you want to do that.
Anyway, you have to wait until someone uploads your firmware or a newer one.
