Going to be asked sooner or later so why not?
16GB. Although this whole $50 for 8GB and $100 for 16GB upgrade in the smartphone world really bothers me. It's just expensive.
I will probably go with 8. I always go with the cheapest version of any phone I get in order to upgrade to something down the line that much easier without losing too much, if any.
Plus I keep my phones VERY clean so I don't have a bunch of clutter with music, movies, and games. I probably have around 200 songs, 1 movie, and emulators for gaming so I won't come anywhere close to 8gb.
Wait till they discontinue the 8gb version and release the 32gb version. They have done it with the Nexus 7.
I predict 8gb version will only have around 6gb of actual storage space, in order word, it can't store nothing. Even if you don't need more space, buying the 8gb version will lose its value for resale in the future imo, especially if a 32gb version come along.

I'm weak willed and can't hold out to wait for a possible 32GB version, so I'm going for the 16GB as soon as it's released. 16GB barely cuts it, but if I try hard enough I can fit all my data onto about 13GB. Hopefully the formatted space is at least that much :/
I have 12.27gb available on mine. But I only use about 5gb including 3 ROMs backed up and about a gig worth of mods, and about 150 pics/vids. I don't game much (leave that for tablets) and I stream through Spotify/G Music.
Originally, i thought 8gb wouldnt be enough but it actually would be OK for me.

Does anyone what the breakdown of 'internal storage' versus 'phone storage' will be?
Internal storage being the space where apps can be installed.

This won't be exactly the same but to give some idea...
I have a 16gb 1X and 12.27 available. 2.34 GB internal available and 9.93 gb available on sd

If I remember correctly from using the Galaxy Nexus, since it doesn't have microSD, the entire space (16gb) will be available for apps installation. Though someone should confirm this.

You can do what ever you want with all of the remaining space. Apps, storage, whatever.
After having a Nexus7 8gb i won't be making that mistake again any time soon.

True this less the space used for system apps. Since ics the storage has been just one big chunk unlike the previous gb and lower where there is a dedicated partition for system apps, usb storage, etc

I have nexus 7 8gb version and have barely filled it and I use it daily.
I have my iPod for music and stream media within the house from computer or Netflix.
Also taking advantage of Google music's 20,000 cloud storage, think the music matching service is something that is very underated!!
All I will have on phone is a few tidbit games (angry birds etc) and any important photos and stuff.
8gb will be plenty imo.

different with a phone IMO than a tablet.
I have a 32GB Xoom - I use 16GB if that - a large chunk is on photos/videos (around 6GB)
I have an Evo3D with a 32GB sdcard - I use 20GB of that. Again a large chunk is on photos/videos (around 7GB)
all my music is via Google Music
I worry that 16GB isn't going to be enough.
I wouldn't feel so bad if all the games available stored their save data in /sdcard/... rather than /data/data
Annoyingly it feels like you _have_ to root to get access to transfer or backup saved data.
e.g. angry birds, world of goo, sonic 4 ep 2 (oddly sonic 4 ep 1 saves on sdcard, but ep 2 doesn't)
I wish all developers of games would follow some guidelines on where to store the save files.
I can't decide. I don't use my phone for music or films and my HTC Desire doesn't have anywhere near 8GB being used. That said, for the price and the fact that it doesn't have an SD slot, I'm still tempted by the 16gb

I will hands of buy even 4 GB version but with expandable storage if Google release it
Other wise it is 32 GB when it comes
32gb... or any gb with sd card...google hear us
I'm in for the 16. I keep a very clean phone, too, but I envision situations where I'd fill it up with a video (I've done this with previous phones at family holidays).
Definitely get 16G
on 16G Nexus 7 and GN I constantly run out of space and I am a clean guy - upload and delete all photos, videos, etc and still get Out of Space warning from the system. A few games you may decide to play and boom, each taking 1.5G-2G - your space is gone. I assume next year we will see games taking more and more so we will be hitting the limit with 16G even sooner.
BTW 16G devices show around 12G space total, so 4G must be taken by system apps or for swap space or something similar.
Even if you do not play any games today and use iPod for music - what if you decide to change that tomorrow, or store a few photos/videos. 8G will not last you enough and you will be longing for a new decide quickly, so that $50 savings on extra 8G may come to haunt you.
16GB, though I'd happily pay more for 32 or even 64.
Hello guys.
Is the a difference bettween Nexus 4 with 8 Gb and Nexus 4 With 16Gb?
I want to buy it but I can't aford the 16 Gb.
Thanks in advance.
Only difference is storage.

Coming from a 16GB Galaxy SIII (which also had a 16GB SD Card in it) I thought there was no way I could buy the 8GB Nexus 4, so I opted for the 16GB.
The 16GB version comes with 12.92GB of available storage due to space taken by the operating system.
Funniest part is, I currently have 11.74GB available.
I could have easily went with the 8GB version. I used to store all my music and photos on my phone, but now that I have integrated into the cloud (Google+ automatically uploads my photos as I take them with my camera and I uploaded every album/song I own to my Google Music account) I find that storing media is completely unnecessary for me.
This may not be a good solution for those who do not have unlimited data or are constantly in areas with no data connection, but for me it's perfect.
just storage size but dont get 8gb if you're going to put ANY music on your phone. 16gb user here and it's still annoying...
Of course it depends on your storage preference. So look at your phone that you have now, what do you keep stored on your phone?
I wasn't sure and bought the 16GB before, but I only use a couple of GB's so most of my storage is empty....
I bought the 16GB nexus thinking there's no way 8 will be enough for me. But i don't think I've ever went over 6GB of storage. I only keep a few songs that I really like (30ish), and 2 or 3 big 3D games. I delete whatever I don't need immediately, like old rom zip, etc.
Guess I'm too organized to take advantage of the extra storage.
I have the 8gb and its plenty if space. So long as u don't save a bunch nandroid backups they take up alOt of space. I use dropbox ALOT now and just store what music I want at any given time on my device. Like maybe 2 GB of music. Also I don't store multiple ROMs no more than 2 at a time anymore. I didn't think I could live with 8gb but I still have almost 2gb left lol.

Thanks for the answers guys!
i think i go for 8 GB Nexus.
Thanks alot!!
I bought the 16 GB version just to be sure I wouldn't go out of space, but I still have 8,82 GB free without storing any music or movies on the phone, just the photos taken with te camera and lot of apps (about 3 GB due to heavy games).
I think could have bought the 8 GB version, but I'm happy with my decision.
what are you guys getting? I ve pre-ordered for the 16gb but thinking to maybe switch to 32gb, for I ve heard 32gb is noticeably faster cuz of bigger storage Idk if that is true... This is my first time using android tablet, ditching ipad finally. I know there is an extended sd card option but still would you buy 32 gb for $50 more?
32gb... Some of these games coming out are over 1gb each, and some are approaching 2gb. I like to have things installed and not have to do the install/uninstall shuffle. Plus to have space for other things. All Media and storage go on the 64gb micro sd card though.
I pre-ordered a 16GB black from Best Buy, then changed my mind to a 32 GB white.
Best to have too much than too little.
They kind of want you to buy the 32gb version since the 16gb version is only 50 bucks less. That being said, I think it matters less on a tablet than on a phone because I always root my tablets. There's less downside from voiding warranty because my tablet is always safe and secure in it's case inside my bag while I'm on the run whereas my phone can be accidentally dropped at any time. That's just me though.
The faster speed from having a larger internal sd card is of somewhat miniscule benefit. For something like a 128gb and 256gb ssd, the improvement will be mildly noticeable but not so much on a tiny sd card. Get the one that fits your needs.
I really want a black one because I prefer understatement (don't want to get robbed too). So if I get a 32gb version, it will be because the 16gb version is only available in white in the states right now.
I got the black 32GB from Best Buy always nice to have extra, also have a 64GB sd card for it.
changed to 32 gb...lol
I was on the fence about getting which one to get too. I decided to get the 16gb because of the Amazon $50 gift card promotion. I don't game alot, so the huge app sizes are not as much as an issue for me. I will put in a 64gb sd card for videos and pictures.
i never game as much as i think i'm going to and always have tons of space left over, lol. i bought just about every emulator and a bunch of games, most of which i've never played or never installed.
i did preorder the 32GB for two reasons - 1: if i want black and by the 11th there's only one choice
2: i swear i'm gonna start playing those games i bought, lol
i also bought another 64GB sd for media. i got a 64 in my ativ 500t and 700t but only a 32 in my gn8. the only reason my phones have 32gb is b/c tw roms are crazy huge compared to AOSP and nandroids are taking 4GB a piece! otherwise 16GB would have been enough.

I feel you about the size of the tw roms. Hopefully, there will be root and a streamlined tw rom to help out a bit with that.

For SSDs why is there any benefit to speed based on size at all? I assumed the OP was just confusing RAM with storage.
For magnetic HDDs, bigger is faster for the same amount of data because on a bigger drive more of that data can be stored towards the edge. The edge of the platter moves quicker, so you get faster R/W times.
Why would different size SSDs have different speeds?

You get faster speeds on larger SSD drives because of the way the controller works. There are more cells working in parallel which increases speed. Each individual bit of information acts rather slowly in emmc and is pretty consistent across devices as long as the type of Nand is the same. It's the controller which makes the difference in speed and the controller is better when it has more parallel units working in tandem. So in the SSD world, bigger is better.

Hey guys,
I've come to the conclusion that my nexus 6p is no longer a satisfying phone so I've decided to upgrade to the oneplus 5. My question is, is there a significant difference between the 6gb and the 8gb versions, I'm fine with 64gb of storage so that's not the issue.
I'm asking because the difference in price is pretty big with the 8gb version costs almost as much as the s8.
Thanks.

I'm a heavy user (150 apps, 30 services running at all time) and I've never seen memory usage go over 4.5 GB.
The rest of the RAM is not idle though, is used to cache the flash memory (data, etc).
In the UK there is a £50 difference between the 2 models. To me, for 2gb of extra ram and double the storage, it is most definitely worth it! Unless you really want a gold one, in which case they only come in the cheaper option.
If it were me, I'd go for the better spec model.
In the US the difference is of $50 USD between OP5 versions, being the OP5 128gb version $530 USD, while the Samsung Galaxy S8 is $650 USD.
I bought the 128gb version thinking in not changing my phone in the next 4 years (who knows what kind of memory-consuming apps we will have in the future). To be honest, I am not even close to using 64gb of my 128gb OP5 internal memory, but 2 extra gb of RAM and double capacity seem like a good deal for the price difference.

Where I'm from the difference is over 100$, where 8gb version is about 665$, for comparison the s8+ is 780$.
I'm a heavy user, and my RAM usually caps around 4.9GB used. That's about 82% capacity if I had only 6GB. I don't like being that close to full. Who knows what types of demands Android 8 and 9 will put on the phone in the future.
But today, 6GB is the "appropriate" amount for a flagship. 4GB is not enough.

They have a promotion going on right now where you by the 128GB and get a free pair of headphones, and if you have the student discount you can get the 128GB + Bullets V2 for $485 shipped.
I like having a lot of storage and 64GB definitely wouldn't cut it but the 8GB of ram is a marketing gimmick. No smartphone needs that much ram. People who are talking about the large amount of ram their phone is using don't understand how ram actually works. Android manages ram automatically like a computer does--if you have a lot of ram Android is going to try and use it and will keep more stuff in memory --but that's not the same as actually needing all that ram. There have been tests on the performance difference between the 6GB and 8GB models and they found that any difference between the two was negligible at best.
I do agree with the comment above me, that's just a marketing. If you don't need the storage rom, and don't want to take a phone because a colour you preferred, just save money.
I have bought the higher version for the same reason as comment here, for better spec, colour, and not too much money for me. BUT, anyway I bought a case for slippery issue that is cover the colour so.. here is the answer
if you need money or you consider 50 for something, go for cheaper version
if 50 bugs is nothing more than something go for .. you can boast with you RAM and your colour in front of your friends.... and here
Are you choosing the 6gb version or the 8gb version? Why? Any comparisons, reviews, or compelling reasons?
I purchased the 8Gb version this morning, just because. Only $50.00 and 2Gb extra couldn't hurt.
I fully believe the 6gb would have been perfect, but at the cost difference, spread over length of time I will own the phone, why cheap out. So I went 8gb.
6GB ram/128gb storage. I honestly believe any more than 6gb ram at this time is a waste.
I was watching a comparison of the 6gb and 8gb version againts the Huwei Mate 20 Pro and the honestly in everyday applications you wouldn't be able to ABSOLUTELY see the difference....I went with the Tmo version and have been playing with all morning and this thing is FAST!!
6GB.
8GB model is only useful for those who want the midnight black model. The actual increase of 2GB is completely pointless and will never be used by the OS unless you plan on playing Pokemon GO, PUBG, Fortnite, simultaneously whilst also navigating in Google Maps with 50 Chrome tabs open.
I just wanted Midnight Black so I went 8/128. The 8gb of ram is probably over kill for android. I do not need 256.

8 is more than 6
Since the 256GB version only comes with 8GB RAM.
Yep, I bought the storage, not the RAM, when I went 256.
