This is my first smartphone so yeah I'm an Android noob. I spent an hour on Google searching how to properly transfer media to Android devices and tried different things but to no use.
I have the 32GB model and it's unrooted/stock with no sim card installed yet. I just wanted to try some videos, music, and pictures to get a feel for the screen and speakers. My micro USB cord is fine and when it's plugged in the PC I can see the media is in the MXPE's folders and taking up space. I turn the phone on and off and try putting them in different folders but no matter I can't find it. I removed a file called .nomedia but that didn't help. It appears the phone is keeping them hidden from me. I tried transfer through both MTP and PTP but no go.
This is surely a simple problem so please help this bonehead out. Thank you. :silly:
So I put the photos, videos, and music in the "Pictures" folder using PTP mode and they work fine now. From stock Android, FLAC and many video formats don't work. Wav and MP4 work fine so I had to convert some of my video files to use them. When I get online I'll download more programs for different formats. I'll leave this here in-case anyone has a similar problem or anything to add.

That's what I use on my PC. It's a great player that seems to handle everything. Thanks.

Hey guys I'm having problem with music on my dhd
I'm using Isyncr for mac to put my itunes libary on the sd card but when I open the music about 10 artists work then the rest go under unknown artist and it shows song time as 00.00
I used this app on my old nexus one and it was fine??
Any solutions would be greatly appreciated thanks
try just copying and pasting to the sd card instead of using and intermediary application if it works fine doing it that way then its probably a problem with the program
if they are AAC they might not playback most devices ive owned will not play AAC, AAC seems to be a format mainly supported by apple
Nope no still no luck, i copied over and its still doing it. There deffo mp3 files.. i dont know why its doing it.
Anyone else got any idea?
I have the same problem.
I'm really disappointed with the music player. It's basically a bag of s**t unless ALL your MP3s have the exact correct tags (album, artist, etc).
Most of my MP3s have "Unknown" or "Disk 1" as the album tag. So the music player puts all these into the same "folder".
Does anyone know how I can get the music player to navigate the SD Card correctly and just play a friggin folder??
I'm getting really frustrated with it!
Thanks
i'm running a stock 6.5 unmodded and locked TMOUS hd2. when i first got the phone, videos ran smoothly. but weeks later, the videos became choppy. i dont know why. i turn off 3g, wifi, and set brightness to 20%. i also disable all tasks in the background. but videos still play choppy. why is this happening and what do i do to ply videos smoothly?
Are you playing the same video you played before, otherwise the problem might be with the file encoding. Moreover, try reinstalling the video player (if it's not the default Windows Media), or alternately, try another media player (like TCPMP).
If the video files are stored on your micro SD card and the SD card is old. It might benifit you to malefactors back up copy of your SD card on your computer and then reformat it using Fat 32. If reformatting does not help you then maybe thecplayer you are using is not such a good player to use with the video files you are experiencing problems with. The TCPMP player the other member posted above is a good player that supports a kids of video formats that the Manila and Windows Media Player do not. You can find the TCPMP layer her on XDA.

hey t-mag. i think its got to do with the video encoding. i say this cuz a couple of movies play smoothly off the sd card while a couple of others dont. so it could be a matter of re-encoding those movies that arent smooth.
as you know, i'm a newbie. when i go into file explorer and click to play a movie off my sd card, a program plays it in full screen by default. whats the name of this program? i know its not windows mobile media player.

That is the Manila video player, don't ask where you can find it on your HD2 as I never found it when I was running Win Mo, believe me I looked lol. If it is the encoding then re-encoding may just fix them. But like a I said in my last post the TCPMP player is great, I never found a video it would not play, and it has a full screen mode as well. If the file you are trying to play is a file in Windows Media format it will automatically open Windows Media Player to play the video and not the Manila player. You can open non Windows Media files to play with the Windows Media player by opening Windows Media Player and selecting open file then find the video you want and open it. Or you can go to freewarepcketpc.net and search foe file extension for Windows Mobile File Explorer. This is a add n for the defualt File explorer that adds the properties option and the open with option to File Explorer if you long press a file.
Just out of curiosity, I have a Bravo with the new 2.2 android update, but I have had this problem even before the update.
I install a video file through Motorola Media Link, or just drag and drop without Media Link, or remove the memory card from the phone and use a card reader to install a video file. I have even changed the settings on the phone when connecting with a USB cable (USB Drive, Media link etc).
The video file cant be read by the stock media player or any media player programs I get from the Android market. I delete the file and try it several times different ways, and the video works. But it takes me hours to delete repeat until it works.
I have tried each time in turn thinking it is one certain setting that I am doing, but the setting that did work, now doesnt and one of the other ways does.
Is there something I'm missing? Please help if you have a fool proof way.
Any ideas or thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
Is the video file a file in which can be played on a mobile device? MP4 is the most common, but not all mobile devices can play a wide variety of media files.
As the name suggests, I'm having some issues with audio playback on my new Iconia. I transferred all my music from my HTC Evo, to my PC, then to the Iconia using Acer's downloadable drivers. If I open the folder via a market downloaded file explorer...I have no issues. It is when I try to play the files in absolutely anything else that I get errors. Just FYI, the files are a mix of .mp3 and .wma files. Any thoughts?

Edit: I'm using File Explorer HD, and only the .mp3 files are playing within the explorer...the .wma files prompt for an app and fail
you can use windows media player to sync music
As far as I know, the WMA format isn't supported in Honeycomb natively.
I had the same problem but its was with google music. I tried power amp from the market and all my music plays fine now. And all my files are wma.

i ended up doing something similar with MortPlayer--still wish it would've worked with Google Music...I was realling digging the UI of that one. Oh well, at least my music plays now. If anyone ends up with a thought or a workaround for the native Iconia app, keep us posted here. I'd love to see a device where all of the stock software worked as it was intended!

Has anyone tried to sync music to our Acer's using Windows Media Player? If that can be used to send all the music to the device AND be able to use the default app...I'd be in good shape.

Yes. I did mention WMP above.
But I only did sync MP3 files, not WMA files. So I don't know about WMA part. MP3 is recognized and played flawlessly using stock music player.
Another note, if your music info (ID3 Tags) is not in English, make sure you have proper character encoding before syncing. Otherwise, they will be displayed as garbage. I think all ID3 Tags should be converted to UTF8, not sure, just used Foobar2000 to fix all my Japanese-title music.
After exchanging my first Iconia to BB for some other issues, I did as you mentioned with using the tablet as an external mp3 player in WMP and everything worked flawlessly! Thanks I also found a great .apk to be able to mount my NTFS HDDs to the tab without issue. So I'm in great shape now!

I tried an experiment with the music -- after syncing the music to my tablet using WMP, I noticed that it placed all of the files into the music folder within the root sdcard (internal memory) and google music pp worked great. I moved all the files from that folder to a folder created on the external_SD, and the app fails like before. Apparently the Music app that comes with our Iconias cannot see anything outside of its native internal memory

I have an LG G2 and am currently trying to stream videos from my windows 7 pc via Windows media player. The phone recognizes the pc/windows media player. It lets me open and view the files (thumbnails show) but when I try and play a video it freezes my phone. This only started happening after the Verizon firmware update. Once out of about 50 times it lets me play a video or two before freezing my phone. Each time it freezes i have to wait and hit the home button for the phone to become responsive again. Once that happens I cannot access the video app on my phone(nothing happens when I click it) I have to restart my phone to render the video app responsive again. I ensured I have the latest firmware on my router. Could the large library size in windows media player have anything to do with it? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Are the files in a video format supported by your device / phone media player?
Perhaps try some different files from your PC that are in different formats, or transcode the files if need-be.
You could also try a different media player application on the device.
I've used Tversity, imediashare, windows media player all with the same results. There are files in the library that are not supported by the phone but those are not the intended viewing files.

This simply sounds like an issue with the new Verizon firmware upgrade. I used to be in the field and have seen similar issues occur with these type of updates. My suggestion is to contact Verizon Tech Support directly to advise the issue and ask for assistance (which may require a firmware downgrade since that may be the only solution at this time).
Good luck.
