Correct me if I'm wrong, but I am pretty sure I found a very interesting thing...
First of all you have to know, that i was lucky and got two op2 invites which I both used and so now me and my girlfriend both have a op2 (mine was bought in September, hers was delivered two days ago).
After some hours we both encountered wifi issues. So i started to take a closer look at our wireless network and found only one device registered. So i looked into the device settings of both devices and found they were using the same ip adress... The cause of this behaviour: my router is not able to distinguish between both devices as they seem to have the same mac address - at least that's what the device settings of both devices tell me!
Now am I wrong or is this just not possible (and no, i did not mess around with any mac address spoofer or changing apps)? I did though root both devices and both are running resurrection remix rom.
I found similar issues with the op1 but they seem to be hostname related. My devices both have different hostnames assigned...
Did anyone experience something similar? And there's still the issue that it would be convenient to use both devices in our wireless network at the same time which is just not possible right now. So can you give me an advice what would be the best way to change the mac address of one device manually (i know that's not a "normal" thing to do, but its the only solution i can think of)?
That does seem extremely weird... Have you tried to flash back to stock and compare MAC addresses? I can't remember if they provide the MAC hardware info on the original box along with the serial number. Worse case scenario, you can try to use a new xposed module called "phone id changer" and randomized the MAC address. But I find it almost impossible for two devices to have same MAC addresses out of the box. Especially in your case, of having two devices purchased at different times..

Well then, if we all have the same mac, no reason for not revealing it.

Are you able to verify? @ripv2 : are you running stock OxygenOS on any of the devices?
I am running CM12.1 build by Grarak just like Donald Nice. (could this be an ROM/Kernel issue)
Yes. There might be a similar correlation to what we saw in early builds of Grarak's CM port for the OPT. When several users were experiencing LTE issues with the 2005 model which might have been caused by the phone showing the incorrect model number 2003 or 2001. These numbers might be baked into the build. Im sure Grarak will address this issue as every other CM based ROM most likely has the same issue. For instance, currently im on RR and have the same mac.

Im using Resurrection Remix.
This is a weird coincidence. What would cause the mac address to be the same when I thought they were hard coded into the phone?
Does reverting to OxygenOS restore the correct MAC?
don't seem to have the problem here...
Have a similar situation and was hesitant on unlocking my bootrom on the two. Wife got hers a month before I did, and I saw this thread and was not looking forward to this issue.
Just did the fastboot oem unlock, finished resetting device and validated her mac address vs mine, and they are different. I have not loaded any other rom's, so we're both using the latest oxygen OS for this device.
her mac ends in 3C:48, mine ends in DE:FE
I have a feeling it's the ROM that may have done it.. not sure why though
Is there any way to spoof Mac address?

I must then be a ROM/kernel issue then. Anyone here that knows how to get the word to the involved parties?
If your using xposed framework you can use an module called Phone ID change.

Sorry for my late reply, had a lot of work during the last days....
My mac is 00:a0:c6:eb:5c:6f, my girlfriend has the same one. So far i didn't revert back to stock (again i need the phone for work) to test it.
I tried the phone changer xposed module and it changed the mac id my phone displayed, unfortunately not the one my router received - so don't bother with that one. I also tried the pry-fi app by chainfire but that ended in connection problems - so no wifi at all...
I might try to flash stock again tonight - but actually i am always a bit worried about phone performance and functionality of my phone when restoring my nandroid backup afterwards (the phone works like a charm atm! Except for the mac id issue of course, so I will definitely restore this nandroid eventually) ...
Reverting to stock fixes mac changes. Have my original mac back. Also had ...5c:6f on cm.

I did - see my last post.
I does not work.
Same problem. I acquired two phones from different vendors. Both phones have Wi-Fi Mac address 00:a0:c6:eb:5c:6f
How to change Wi-Fi Mac address on OnePlus 2?
ROM: OxySLim
Well, this is weird to say at least, mine has the same address as the rest. It's possible that this is related to the fact we are all using custom rom? is anyone here not rooted? just to check if this has something to do with that.
Solved! - one mac address on two devices !
1. Reboot into recovery,
2. mount system,
Use terminal (adb shell or builtin terminal from TWRP) type in:
3.
Code:
ln -sf /persist/wlan_mac.bin system/etc/firmware/wlan/qca_cld/wlan_mac.bin
4. reboot

We have 3 SGS2 at home and a Billion 7800N modem
There is a recurring problem on my wifes phone where there is no dataflow. I cant even reach the modem. It will just start working all the sudden for a short period then stop again.
Things I have tried.
1. Using it right next to the router
2. have tried using different channel
3. have reset modem
4. made sure sleep policy is on never
5. Update firmware and hard reset phone - no new apps installed - worked at first but now having problems again.
It never loses wifi connectivity....internet just does not work. Turn 3g on...works fine.
What could be the problem?
Only things I can think of
1. Faulty phone
2. Virus? That phone is sometimes used to check out Chinese websites...and I know some of them can be dodgy. I forgot to ask her not to go to any of those sites after the hard reset as trial and error.
3. Not certain but this problem may only started when we updated to 2.3.4.
If need be Ill hard reset AGAIN when XXKG6 is out - I dont want to flash back to 2.3.3 to try

I have the impression, that the Broadcom WiFi drivers of Android are still buggy, because my Asus Transformer's WiFi also isn't very good.
When using a static IP address and setting Google's free DNS 8.8.8.8 as a secondary DNS server (the router as primary), my SGS2's WiFi works best.
Maybe give it a try.
I have the exact setup and tried all the things you mentioned to no avail. It works sporadically after I reset the phone wifi on and off but it won't maintain data connection for long. Although the signal indicator says it is still connected. the billion 7800 works on my wifes sgs and connects without problem to my work htc legend.

If you google for "galaxy s2 wifi no internet", you'll find out, that several SGS2 owners have exactly the same problem.
I all cases it seems to be the router's firmware, that causes this problem. I found two users reporting, that the only solution was to download a new firmware from ...
http://dd-wrt.com
But maybe it helps to drop the speed from 802.11 N to G?
I have the exact same problem and my firmwire on my router is the latest. What I do to fix this problem is just unplug my router and plug it back in. I find that fixes it for me. Post back if that doesn't work

That's why two guys reported, that they had to download a new FW from DD-WRT, which solved the problem for them.
Sorry, that I don't post links ... it were german forums.
I have the exact same problem. You say that the other two S2's work perfectly? If that's the case then it must be a hardware fault. I'm gonna take mine to be fixed or replaced.

Likely ... maybe different firmware?
Yes....my SGS2 and my brothers work fine. When I update....I update all 3 so we are all using the same firmware.
Thats why I believe its a problem specific to 1 phone....not the router (although I did update my router to latest firmware just in case.....same problem)
As a side note - my brother has a microphone echo problem when using a specific gel case. When my wife and I use the exact same case - no problem. I dont know how Samsung build their phones - but its not very consistent.

That's why we have a thread about the "Made in ..."
But that's not only a Samsung problem ... I know that from the Asus Transformer forum.
Ill see where our phones are made if I have time. If anything though, my brother should be the odd 1 out as his was bought in Australia whereas I got the other 2 from UK.
Ill get to the bottom of this....even if I have to keep doing hard reset and trial and error tests. Not being able to use wifi is a huge deal.
Just to confirm, the problem's not only apparent in 2.3.4. My phone has the same problem with 2.3.3. I've sent my phone in for repair now so i'll post my findings here in a week or so. Have you got any further with it?
I sure hope they do fix it somehow....It's becoming increasingly annoying having to flick wifi on and off, downloading apps is the worst. This never happened on mine or my girlfriends htc's.
Anyone able to find a solution for this problem? Just picked up my Galaxy S2 and have the exact same issue Wifi connects, surf the net for about 10 sec, then nothing.. still connected to Wifi and everything.
At work at the moment so can't really play around with the router settings but will try once I get home. Have been looking forward to getting this phone for a while now and to have Wifi issues right off the bat is quite disappointing..
wifi connected no data flow
i had the same problem
i tried different ways no sucess
i tried Set DNS Pro from market
tried different settings
applied different dns
shift from open , custom to google ang keep checking the internet in browser
after few try it works everytime
its to do with assigning ip address in android
thanks

Channel 14 is not allowed in most countries ... my german router e.g. doesn't have channel 14, only 1-13.
I had similar issues with my Asus Transformer and found out, that a static IP works best, BUT only if a secondary DNS is assigned too. I used Google's 8.8.8.8
Give it a try. The Broadcom drivers seem to have a bug, when no secondary DNS is assigned.
The "regulatory domain" setting isn't there on my galaxy s2 ;/ Will give the static IP solution a try.

Hey guys
Now this is going to sounds really stupid but none the less this is the situation:
I happened to get my hands on a Lenovo Thinkpad Australia version through some IT testing I am doing for a company.
It is not locked down and they want my general feedback.
Problem is, I have no idea what they gave me:
If i go to the about tablet this is the info I am provided:
Model: ThinkPad Tablet
Android: 3.1
Baseband: R3B01
Kernel: 2.6.36.3
Build Number: *blahblah*A310_02_*blahblah
*EDIT* removed system serial number
here is the problem, it has no identification to which version it is. I can tell you it requires a sim card.
The problem is i believe it is very out of date, I try and hook it up to my wireless and it does not seem to work..
No idea why, it is a hidden SSID, is it a compatability issue with this? All info is provided correctly and it can see it when it is saved. Simply wont connect.
Further more, searching the lenovo website is near useless as I do not klnow where the hell the serial number is on this thing./ The one number i entered it said it was wrong *gut instinct says it is right*
As such, I want to simply upgrade my version of the lenovo tablet so I can do some real testing with it. As close to stock as possible, I need the bloody wireless to work (work location so cannot unhide the SSID - company protocol).
After some testing I will most likely wipe it and run a *cleaned version* I guess I need to know if there is any major differences between world versions.
Thanks for your help.. Also is there some all-in-guide?
btw, I know these are stupid questions especially as I been on android since 1.6 and have developed with them. Its just not playing ball this tabled.
Shouldn't post your system serial number per Lenovo. Can't help with anything else. Best of luck.

BTW the build number is more useful than the SN.
I agree with toenail_flicker - should not post the System Serial Number here.
Anyways, since you posted it, I got a quick check and got the following for your device:
Type: 1838
Model: 2EM

You had to quote both posts
Lol,
Well I guess the first problem is the wireless, it is hooked up to another WEP access point, it will not connect to a WPA2 access point (hidden or not).
When i say sim card I mean 3g services. I do not need to use it abroad so wireless is fine for its current purpose.
*removed the system build number* as suggested
I have noticed that the version is quite old and no easy means for updating. Is there an advantage to updating it? i.e. major bug fixes?
At the moment the tablet is useless until I can get it hooked up to a WPA2 access point. Is there a known problem?
So can anyone actually tell me which version of thinkpad I have? I have noticed firware version differences for different locations, is there a way to find out which version the AUD uses?
First time for wifi you may have to hand enter everything - I did. Later if you remove the connection it will recognize it and you just need the password.

Check this one out: http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-slate-tablets/18382EM-Wifi-Problem/td-p/726997
You have the same type and model number as the OP stated, and you definitely would be using the ROW build.
OPs workaround was to reset to factory setting to make WIFI work. And since you will not be using 3G, this should be a temp. solution for you.
But I would still recommend you have it fixed since you are still under warranty.
Factory reset should set u right. after doing the reset make sure u enter wifi info manually. and that its set for wpa2. aftetwards itll slways pick it up. let us know how it goes so we can help firther if need be. second option would be to apply the update from sd card. good luck!
hey
I will try the factory reset tonight..
hopefully that will solve the issue, I will provide an update when feasible.. prob next monday.
I got my Nexus 4 today, and I've been pretty excited since.. So far, it's worked flawlessly everywhere except for when I need to download something from the play store.
Almost every download results in "Package File is Invalid"
I googled for hours, literally. I wiped data/cache of Google Play Store, Services Framework, wiped Cache from the stock recovery, and even factory resetted the phone to no avail.
I'm guessing it's a problem with my home's router setting. Everything works fine on my nexus except for the play store. Haven't gotten a chance to mess with other wifis yet, but can anyone tell me a way of fixing it?
If it doesn't work by tomorrow, I might run a custom ROM and try, though I really wanna stick with stock till 4.3/5.0 comes out :\
Any help?
Login to the Playstore from a PC and make sure your N4 is listed on your account. Also, try and install an app on your phone from there.
What happens if you try to install an app with Wi-Fi off (Mobile Data)? This could rule out an issue with your router or ISP.

It works fine on 3G for me. It's not a ROM issue since I tried it on stock, PA, and now CM10.1.
However, very small apps download without issues. I think the cap is around 5 mb above which the error shows up.
I'm 100% sure it's my router's settings that seem to be working against the nexus. Any idea what I could do?
I absolutely LOVE the fluidity of this phone (coming from a single core phone running a buggy JB rom) but this is killing me!!
The worst thing is, all the workarounds that I've read about since yesterday work for few, but not all people. And there are lots of workarounds. I've tried all that I've read but nothing's working :\

What router (Make / Model) is it?
Check for a router firmware update. If there are no updates or support, check if it is supported by DD-WRT.
Try doing a factory reset on the router, then set the security settings to (WPA2 only / AES only) and use the Android app WiFi Analyzer to find the best channel.

First I would return to stock ROM. A custom ROM could have it's own WiFi issues.
As for the router, the only other suggestions I can make are;
test it in unsecured mode (open Wi-Fi access)
force 802.11G (disable B and N access)
lower the MTU from 1500 to 1480
disable uPnP
disable (or enable) WMM support.
disable any content filtering (like blocking java, proxies, etc).
Changing these options one at a time and see if any one fixes your issue.
Use VPN
Has been occurring a lot lately. Well, not a fancy fix but a simple one ..... use hotspot shield to connect and then all files install normally over wifi. Don't know why it does, but it works!
I have had "package file is invalid" issues with my Nexus 4 and my home WiFi connection from day 1 of owning a Nexus 4. I have tested it on 4 different WiFi Routers with different firmwares including stock and DD-WRT.
- Linksys WRT320N Dual Band (With Stock and DD-WRT Firmware).
- Linksys WRT160N V3. (Stock and DD-WRT)
- Tenda N60. (Stock "2012-12-12 V1.0.0.16_EN" and newer variants).
- ASUS RT-N66U "Dark Knight".
Tested 2.4ghz and 5ghz, varrious combinations of WEP,WPA-PSK, WPA2-PSK, WPA2-AES. It makes no difference the ONLY router from the above 4 that works correctly when downloading over WiFi from the Play Store is the Tenda N60 using the early release stock firmware "2012-12-12 V1.0.0.16_EN" that the router is shipped with. Even with the Tenda N60 if yuo upgrade the firmware to newer releases of stock firmware it will cause the issue to return.
Now this is an issue specific to the Nexus 4, I also have a Nexus 7, Samsung Galaxy S3, HTC Desire, Huawei Ascend G300. None of these devices have this issue using any of the router or firmware revisions. i.e: I can download from Google Play over the same WiFi connection with no problems.
I have had my Nexus 4 swapped for a replacment and the issue remains. So I've come to the conclusion that it's defintiely device specific the Nexus 4 has something inherently wrong with it..whether it's WiFi Drivers, Android Kernel, WiFi Chipset I dont know.
It doesnt affect all WiFi conenctions I can use my WiFi connectiona t work and the issue doesnt occur. It's strange that the cheapest router of the 4 I ahve tested i.e: The Tenda N60 is the only one that works consitently, I have never seen the "package file is invalid" issue using this router and Tenda firmware "2012-12-12 V1.0.0.16_EN".
This basically rules out any ISP, or WiFi security settingas as I used the same SSID, Security types and Network Key on the Tenda as the other 3 routers..
Poor show by Google, they obviously dont care about fixing this issue.
So your router having an issue is a Google problem? Well done coming to that conclusion...
For what it's worth, I have no such issues with my home router (Thomson) or my work WiFi network (no idea what router we have here but it's probably a Linksys/Cisco jobby)

Ermm...you might want to read that last post again, 4 different routers from different manufactuirers with different WiFi Chipsets (Linksys x 2, Tenda, ASUS) tested with stock and 3rd party firmwares all exhibit the same issue with the Nexus 4. Where as NO other android device or any other WiFi device on my network including a Nexus 7 with the same version android version as my Nexus 4 (4.2.2 ), connected via the same routers have any issues, even side by side downloading the same app from the Play store at the same time the others will suceed the Nexus 4 will fail the download "package file is invlalid" which sounds like a data corrption issue.
Co-incdecne thats it's only the Nexus 4 that has these issues ? I highly doubt 4 different routers are all faulty...especially since it's only the Nexus 4 that has this issue.
If you check the google code pages you'll find several other people complaining of the same issue.

All I'm saying is the 2 routers I use most have no issues and neither does the one my parents, my local pub or any of my friends. Might be a UK thing, I don't know, but I've never had a problem on WiFi at all...

I agree with that, maybe it's even a particular hardware batch of N4's, not sure. I can use my N4 fine on my work WiFi and other locations. Like I said it does work on my home WiFi if I use The Tenda N60 router with it's early release stock firmware, any firmware upgrades cause the problem to return though. But it cant be right that you should have to use a specific router and specific firmware which you cant upgrade without breaking the N4.
I've got another support case open with Google Play which they've apparently passed to their techs, lets see what they come back with... I have heard of someone with this issue using a custom ROM with a different Kernel to the Google stock build which includes newer Qualcomm Prima WiFi drivers (Paranoid Android) , they claim this fixes the issue for them.
Im relectant to flash a custom ROM and void warranty though for a basic feature that should work out of the box though.
I tried a lot of different things but nothing seems to have worked sadly.. I'm gonna update my ROM tomorrow to CM10RC4 and see if that helps, though I doubt it's the ROM's fault. Btw, I had the same issue with the stock ROM too
I've been having this problem whenever my portable wifi device connects to a slow mobile network. All my friends connect to my hotspot, but only my Nexus 4 gets the "Package file is invalid." error. For months, I've had to contend with switching to mobile data just to finish my downloads.
My only conclusion is that the Nexus 4 has a problem with slow connections over wifi by corrupting the data transmitted. It's fine when using mobile data.
Check this out:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2300873
It requires the phone to be rooted. I'm already testing it out now.
I cant verify 100% yet but my Nexus 4 took the Android 4.3 OTA update yesterday. I have since tried several WiFi downloads over WiFI from the Google Play store and not a single one has failed !
So my intitial thoughts are that the Android 4.3 update has recolved this issue..and it was indeed a bug/fault in the previous versions maybe it's the new kernel, Qualcomm Prima WiFi drivers, New Google Play app... But whatever it is. It seems to have fixed the issue. Well done Google about time too !
The only down point is the denial of any issue their end from Google Play staff and blatant lies they tell customers about not knowing about such bugs.

Ironically, the 4.3 update on my Nexus 4 yesterday actually seemed to trigger the Package File is Invalid error, as it wasn't a problem before. MX Player and Jetpack Joyride are triggering this for me atm. Anyone else still have this on Android 4.3?
Several devices.....

Having the same issues on all of my devices, but only while trying to download on my home wi-fi. Like the OP said, anything over 5mb won't download. Droid Razr M, Droid Razr HD, Note 10.1, Tab 2 10.1, and Nexus 7 (running 4.3), I cannot figure out what changed on my Belkin router (AC900) to cause this to happen suddenly. It was just noticed last night, and I have spent hours today trying to find a fix, and creating more problems to fix. If anyone has any step by step instructions of how to fix this, please explain to me like you would a 6 year old. BTW, rooting is not an option of all of these devices, so please make it a root free option. And I have cleared all caches/datas and done all the force stops recommended, as well as removed the google accounts and readded them.
After an hour on the device it simply forgets it's connected. Even if I'm watching a movie it will stop aND say no connection. I've returned it once so I think it is software vs hardware. Anyone else?

I had a 7.0 for a week and not one had problems

Yeah mine does that also, not my fave, but I just turn the wifi off and then back on again. Sometimes it only stays on the wifi for 10 minutes! Hope there is a fix at some point.
Sent from my SM-T230NU using XDA Free mobile app
Seems like a Samsung issue....
Looks like all along the Galaxy lineup there are wifi issues.
I tried everything, preventing wifi from sleeping, using wifi fixer, nothing seems to work.
Sometimes my wifi will stay connected, the upload will work, but I get no download.
Rebooting wifi on quick toggle seems to only do the trick.
Have you all updated the software?

Yep, I updated to the latest software the moment I received the tab
Hmm, have you tried with more than one WiFi connection?

Yep, seems to do it more often with a 5Ghz connection than 2.4 though.
None of my other 5Ghz devices (3 iPhones and an iPad) drop wifi.
Signal is on clearest channel available.
Pretty much isolated everything outside of this tablet.
I'm pretty techy with my home networking, so I'm at a loss with this one.
Yes, it has been updated and yes it has occurred on my home wifi, my work wifi, my doctor's office wifi, and unfortunately the hospital's wifi. All with the same outcome! My S5 doesn't do it nor did my S4 running Kit Kat.
So, still no fixes for this! As a previous poster now it is getting where if I'm playing a game it will drop after 10 minutes! I have power save off everything. While hitting the WIFI on off button works it is highly annoying! I want my WIFI all the time not when my tablet thinks I should!

Think I have a solution http://tinyurl.com/nfbgxds
Hope 5th is will help out so far so good for me!
I just got this tab 4 7 inch last week and I am having the same problem with connections showing connected but not having any data transfer. The steps in the above link did not help for me.
I have updated to the latest firmware posted on sammobile, both the Canada version and the nook (BNN) version. Neither have made a difference.
I have found another thread in thisnforrum for this same problem, and there wasn't any solution there either.
I did find wha I think might be solution but haven't proofed it yet. in the build prop there was two "ro.carrier" lines. I think there is only supposed to be one, so I commented out one.
Original Example:
ro.carrier=wifi only
ro.carrier=unknown
Changed example:
ro.carrier=wifi only
#ro.carrier=unknown
If anybody can confirm this makes a difference or not please post results
EDIT::
After two weeks without problem anymore it appears the fix was the static IP address not the build prop change.
I found threads going back to at least 2007 about Samsung devices having trouble with dhcp and all the solutions being manually assign a static IP to the device.
Same issue here. Sometimes I have to cycle the WiFi every webpage!
Both of the above solutions didn't work for me, unfortunately.
Edit: Okay, I may have found the issue, at least for me. Turns out, the tablet was auto-assigning the same IP as my RasPi. After setting a static IP, everything looks okay from here. Hope this helps!
Changing to static IP did nothing, I was having to reset wifi on the tab every time I turned on the screen.
I even had wifi fixer constantly running.
Finally updated to NJ3 and everything is working properly.
Looks like it's a FW issue.

It should be one line:
ro.carrier=wifi-only
Script can be added however by attacting to the rom on the correct line parameters and scripting for digital on board configuration (no smart card) QMAL gsm, gprs, 3g, 4g, even lte or 5g, or 6g, no sim card required researve slot for world phone, or dual networking. The problem is each phone has to be separately programmed so cell companiesnhave walked away from needing higher qualified employees by switching to smart cards. Cost way less and employes way less people and note, your phone didnt cost you a penny less. I been doing cell phone tweaking since the motorolla brick was cool. Currently I used Samsung Galaxy Note 8010 64-bit 32 gig converted to XAC (its the industry's mobile payment recieveing device you see at bars, its made from the model previous mentioned)[to-wit-it says on their site not to tell anyone about]-or else- build then added Debian, Jessie. Then switched the imei to XAC, installed the telephony.manager.is_network_roaming=true along with the prpper scripting for the support and am hooked up to Sask-Tell. Once I got it connected and registered so it had a sign in address with the system i swutched the imei to all 000000000000's now they dont even send me a bill. But it works. The guy at the phone company couldnt even tell me where i was calling him from and he said my phone was disconnected while I was on the phone with him from the disconnected number. lmfao have a good day.
Hi guys, not sure if this is a silly question as I guess WiFi cards etc can be changed and what not. However, I've had my Nexus 7 (2012) tablet stolen. Unfortunately I don't have a record of the serial number so can't get it listed in the databases that Police/Pawn shops check here in New Zealand. I do have the WiFi MAC address from my router though. So my question is, is there a way to find the serial number based on this? Just trying my luck. Thanks.

You don't still have the box? As far as I can tell the mac address has never changed on any of my devices, even after flashing factory images or what not.

Thanks. No don't have the boxes. Just really want to somehow find out more info about the thieves really. Frustrated that I didn't have any protection software installed on them Lesson learnt I guess!

Of course you have protection software on your N7. Android Device Manager. Did you set it up? Don't knnow if there is any way to correlate the mac address to a serial number without contacting ASUS, if they would even be willing to do it.
