I have a rooted EU Honor 7 Phone.
Entered this line
qemu.hw.mainkeys=1 to disable the soft key navigation. (inside the file build.prop)
It worked.
Installed from playstore softkey gestures. Worked ..
So far so good.
But my question and problem. i have a neighbour with same phone but Chinese version. There is a small arrow before the softkeys that allows one to hide the softkey bar. That I do not have on my EU version that is why i solved it like description above.
The problem now is that sometimes when some apps are opened...the MENY button is not there.....but in custom softkey bar it appears when it is necessary at the most right hand side...
Sooooo....my solution above is good when there is no menu options in some apps.
What i WOULD rather do....is to reactivate the original softkey bar...as my neighbour has...the possbility just to autohide the meny.... IT must been just a flag or something missing somewhere.
Is there any cool android hackers here that could shine a little and explain how to reactivate this small tiny feature .... and NO...there is no such setting available in settings....a checkbox...
I would appreciate that a LOT... !!!
Cheers....
I too miss this and as I have heard it is Google who does not permit this feature. It was present in the first EU firmware for the Huawei P8 but was removed in the first update.
As for the Chinese versions they obviously don't care!

Eu
EU should not care either...
I do not think that the world would go under if one could Autohide the softkey meny. Or are we more stupid than Asian people in such way that we would return the phone because of "disappearing" softkeys?

Hello,
Installed LMT Launcher and played with it briefly last night.
Seems to work well.
I'd like to know if it is possible to remove the soft keys on a stock ROM (rooted with busybox)
Thanks,
~Eric
Hi. I also tried LMT and loved it so much that I simply removed the navbar. Sometimes it would be more practical to have the navbar, but I'm getting more and more used to LMT and in time I feel I will never miss navbar again! I was looking and found some APKs that do this and also a MOD I beleive, but by FAR the easisest solution for me was to simply edit the build.prop file.
So, before you do this make SURE you have alternative way to navigate (such as LMT). Then simply open your build.prop file and add this line:
Code:
qemu.hw.mainkeys=1
Save, reboot and... Profit!
Navbar will be GONE. Cheers:good:
Thanks a bunch... This worked great. Would love to not have to reboot to take effect but still good that you can do this on the stock ROM.
Meeks a huge difference in landscape mode.

hi how to execute that code and what app do i need?
You can now hide soft keys (and keep notification bar) without modifications and reboots. Just try my new app:
GMD Hide Soft Keys
It also adds Quick NavBar - soft keys that can be opened with simple swipe from bottom and then autohide when not needed :good:.

I Tried your app, but theres a huge red line on the bottom of the screen, so bad.
And also got a lot of errors messages on my logcat in the background, so i uninstalled it quickly oO
Sorry if this is the wrong board.
I was wondering if there was a type of kernal that hides the capacitive buttons and the way to bring them up was to swipe them up from the bottom?
What capacitive buttons. If you mean the nav bar you can hide it with CM and PA, probably most of the custom roms
Sent from my Nexus 4
Obviously no way to hide capacitive hard keys on a phone but I think you mean (as last post suggests) that you want to hide the softkeys.
The following two apps do this. I've used the second one and can recommend it

That's not something that a kernel would do. Custom kernels are meant to do under-the-hood type stuff, not add visible ROM-level features.
What you're looking for is something like GMD Auto Hide Soft Keys
I think u can do it buy using some launchers ...

Thanks all for the quick replies, I quit like GMD Auto Hide Soft Keys it's exactly what I need.
All i'd need to do is install SuperUser and install the app correct, would it be smart to root it right of the box without sim card or activate it with sim card on?

You can root your phone with or without a SIM card in, it makes zero difference. But if you are going to root it then do it before you start loading your apps/data, because unlocking the bootloader requires a factory reset.

Thanks for conrfirming, I was just a bit afraid I may loose service over rooting. Those that have used GMD Auto Hide Soft Keys does it hide the keys during game play also?

Yup it does
jfi...Its always a good idea to install busybox from the market after rooting, some apps need it. Then install GMD or whatever.
Sideload and install gmd hide soft keys run it and select hide soft keys keys and setup your quick nav bar ..my suggestion is to use the pro version of gmd and set navigation control's to none and then use udn pro as your navbar which seems to work better for me

Works great, but how do you get the new nav bar to push everything up when on the bottom? Right now I have it set to 20px so it doesn't interfere with much, but it conflicts with my keyboard from time to time...

Did you guys lose menu buttons on some apps after installing these? My menu buttons for Voice and Trillian for instance have vanished and the menu button for the bar doesn't work on most apps for me.
Edit: Never mind, my issue was related to a busybox installation that was fixed by installing with a different installer. Oops.
Thanks for the info on this, it's very useful and stock is kinda lackluster.

I used the one from Faznx92's root tutorials, but I never had a busybox problem...
Something weird is going on, I got the menu problem again after rebooting I guess. Every time I uninstall busybox I get them back. I'll try the method OP used.
Edit: I keep getting the same problem. Each time I enable the auto hide soft keys app, I lose menu buttons in apps. Thr trick I found is to launch them all after booting then enable the auto hide. Just need to do that every time you reboot.
I would still love to be able to fix it for good
Freeze or uninstall stock "Soft Key Bar?"
Is it possible to remove it completly? I use auto hide soft keys but the stock Soft Key Bar interferes with it.

Do you guys know any way of swapping the default navbar with an aosp navbar? I want it to stay without hiding. I am mainly missing the recent apps button in the default navbar.
Thanks a lot!
You can disable the navbar with gravity box and use pie controls. That's what I do
Use UDN lite. Its far better and has more customization in the free version.

Don't you want to be encrypted?!
It's still encrypted
1. Flat Style Bar Indicators (one of ways to get center clock and other taskbar tweaks);
2. RootCloak (necessary in case you use apps that don't work on rooted phone)

Some parts are, I am unable to do things like remap buttons etc and it crashes if you try to do any quick management editing (which is to be expected). On the plus side, the developer has just ordered the 3t and is planning on making a full;y comparable version for us

That's right. But I still have to wait to have device in my hands as it's currently hard for me to assess what it will take and whether it is worth to work on Marshmallow version considering 3T is receiving Nougat in couple of weeks, which seems to be quite different (hopefully more AOSPish) compared to OOS 3.5.
The only one I seem to find a use for is "Ringer and notification unlink" so that I can separately set notification levels. It adds the slider with the others in settings/sound.
Is there any module to auto hide the navbar after a certain time to prevent burn-in?
/e: so trying to manipulate softkeys with GB results in some weird outcomes (e.g. backbutton not working)
I want this function but i can´t find any mod for it
Short press on recents button - Open menu
Long press recent button - open recents
Long press back button - kill app
Include my modules

a must have is "app settings 1.13" for the simple reason you can change orientation, dpi, keep on, and much more on any app

I tried the pro version but couldn't find it so I did a refund. I can only get it to start an app.
That's sad, maybe I've just been using it for so long it seems simple to me. I guess it just wasn't meant to be for you then because it works perfectly on every phone I've ever had including this one.

Hello,
I have modified Xiaomi A1 as I want, but there is a last thing missing. I want to lock the phone by holding the home button in the navigation bar.
I am on stock version so far and I want to use it for some time. Is there a magisk module or any app that modifies the actions on the buttons at navigation bar?
Thank you
Sent from my Mi A1 using Tapatalk
Have you tried Gravitybox? You can map hardware keys (tap, long press and double tap) You'll need Xposed.
Thanks man.
I have used gravity on my previous phone but solved my question through Tasker . But tasker doesn't do the same here in xiaomi a1.
I need a simpler solution than that of gravity. Hope someone gets an idea.
You can use button mapper app. I have remapped all navbar keys and it works without any issues.

Where have you been my friend? Great. This get things done and I am using. I wish there was a slightly simpler way like a magisk script, but I got the correct reply.
The only annoying thing that I can't get rid in this phone, is that when I restart, it does not ask for my Pin. I know it has something to do with the magisk script I use to unlock phone by a fingerprint, but haven't solved it yet.
Remove and re-apply your PIN in security settings and enable secure start-up again. As soon as you enable app with accessibility service (as for example button mapper), secure start-up is automatically disabled (there is some vague warning, but very easily missed or misinterpreted). Accessibility service was designed to help visually impaired people and this service is available only after phone has booted up, so this is why PIN/pattern can't be requested at boot time for them.
