[OK] EAP-SIM in OnePlus 2? - OnePlus 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there EAP-SIM support in OnePlus 2?
EAP-SIM is supported by my carrier (France/Free) to connect phone to nearby WiFi Hotspots automatically using mobile account identification.
There are some posts around here talking about this feature (here and there for example).
It is not provided in AOSP, the android issue #9329 is open since 2012 asking for it.
Apple, Samsung, LG, HTC, Sony... phones support it through custom OS or Android overlay.
So the real question is: Do Oxygen OS provide it?
EDIT/ANSWER :
It works fine. I've used it multiple times.

Carrier application (Free) says it supports it
I just received the phone yesterday and installed an application provided by my carrier to configure Visual Voice Mail (Messagerie Free).
The application can also configure EAP-SIM and said that the phone is compatible and I completed its configuration.
However I didn't had the change to test it (EAP-SIM).
I'll post a reply if I'm able to test it.

Connection occurs
I saw the phone connecting to an EAP-SIM WiFi Hotspot (FreeWiFi_Secure), however I couldn't confirm the connection was working (I was driving, so safefty first).
It seems to be working, I just have to confirm it (browse some website when connected to a EAP-SIM WiFi Hotspot).

It works
I can confirm it works.
I've used it multiple times.
So good news.

Hi everyone !
Are you SURE EAP-SIM is working on the Oneplus 2 (the 2, not the one).
I had the oneplus ONE and, yes, it IS working, "Messagerie Vocale Free" can configure Freewifi_secure for the phone.
But I now have the Oneplus TWO and "Messagerie Vocale Free" cannot configure it : It says it cannot configure EAP-SIM on Dual SIM phones, you have to configure it manually. And when trying to configure EAP-SIM manually.. it's not possible...
I'm talking about stock ROM (Oxygen OS 2.1.2)

Yea it works I'm on stock rom and AK kernel.
In Singapore I needed Eap Sim for my provider's free WiFi, so it kind of look like this
network={
ssid="SingTel WIFI"
key_mgmt=WPA-EAP IEEE8021X
eap=SIM
sim_num=1
priority=235
}
network={
ssid="Singtel WIFI"
key_mgmt=WPA-EAP IEEE8021X
eap=SIM
sim_num=1
priority=242
}
The settings were automatically disabled by the phone once added for some reason, I thought it didn't work and left the code there until one day I realize I was connecting to the WiFi through Eap Sim. Nt sure what I did in between that made it work. Perhaps restart or add only when WiFi is off or disable then enable background WiFi scan
Take note that there are two wpa_supplicant file. The correct one should have some WiFi AP already there if u have previously connected to any WiFi AP. The path should be system>data>misc>WiFi
I modified the file using fx file manager with the free root add-on. Which means u need to root ur phone in order to change the settings. ES file explorer didn't work for me
10/8/16:
I've upgraded to Paranoid 6.0.2, there is EAP-SIM option when connecting to Singtel WiFi however it will always result in "Authentication Problem".
I've tried many ways to fix it:
- Removing pmf = 1
- Setting DHCP back to lollipop
- Disable 1.2 and 1.1 TLS for compatibility
- Adding sim_num = 1 (will be removed by driver due to external_sim = 1)
All of them did not work for me.
The only one that did work was to use EAP-AKA instead of EAP-SIM. It even works for [email protected] too.

Thanks all for your advices,
Here is the procedure for French FREE MOBILE + OP2 users
The correct file "wpa_supplicant.conf" is in System(root)/data/misc/wifi as Imk1988 said (so grateful to him btw)
(do not modify the other wpa_supplicant.conf file in System(root)/etc/wifi)
Add this line
network={
ssid="FreeWifi_secure"
key_mgmt=WPA-EAP IEEE8021X
eap=SIM
sim_num=1
priority=5
}
after rebooting, it's working like a charm
Conditions:
SIM FREE MOBILE in slot 1
OP2 rooted

Hi lmk1988,
I tried using your method for Singtel WiFi (using a Oneplus X on CM12.1) and it's not working I'm afraid. I could edit the file successfully, but I get a "WiFi connection failed" when I try to connect.
Will try again later!
(I'm wondering if it's just that CM doesn't support EAP-SIM at all...)

Unfortunately I'm using oneplus two (custom rom: SkyDragon v3.1 OOS2.2 and Boeffla 1.1-beta3) now.
Not really sure if it will work for oneplus X
Anyway do make sure u are modifying the correct file, there are two files with the same name.
And note that not all Singtel WiFi will work. It's funny it can be working on one day then not working the next. Kinda depends on time and place.
---------- Post added at 08:59 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:27 AM ----------
Okay the issue seems to be from CM12.1 oneplus X
Take a look at bbs.zhiyoo.com/thread-9972195-1-1.html
(T.T I can't post links yet because under 10 post)
It's in Chinese but if you look at what they say for version 8
Code:
8.0更新:
回滚7.0版本的音频驱动设置
回声问题应该解决了
禁用EAP-SIM 设备本身不支持
It basically means
Code:
version 8.0:
Reverted Audio Driver to 7.0
Echo issue have been be fixed
[B]Restricted EAP-SIM setting, it is not supported[/B]
I'm not sure if it means CM12.1 for oneplus X does not support EAP-SIM, or does it mean oneplus X does not support EAP-SIM.
Try changing your ROM back to OOS and see if it works

I see.
Thanks man! I don't really know much about coding, etc., and finding out where everything us. Just kinda winging it by searching through forums and so on.
So really appreciate the help and the info! = )
I'm not sure if I'll try to switch back to the stock OS at the moment, found CM to be preferred at the moment. If I do, though, I'll let you know!

Cannot find solution to connect to hidden 802.1x network :(

Hi!
I Cannot find solution to connect to company's hidden Wifi 802.1x network
I tried almost anything to make it work .... but without success
I have had various wpa_supplicant bin files.
I have edited 100x wpa_supplicant.conf file.
I was reading forums with "SOLVED" solutions ... for other phones ... but cannot find solution to work on Huawei IDEOS X5 U8800.
I also have tried it with various ROMs: MIUI 1.8.x and 1.9.x, VOID, B135, B136,B160, cm7-100911, Oxygen ...
But every time with no success ...
Hints:
a) All other colleagues connect without problem (they have HTCs, Samsung Galaxy S I,II, iPhones 3,4 ...) while my friend and i cannot connect
b) I connect to my home Wifi (WPA/PSK) without a problem!
Anyone have similar problem?
BTW: MY wpa_supplicant.conf file looks like:
ctrl_interface=wlan0
update_config=1
network={
ssid="mySSID"
scan_ssid=1
key_mgmt=IEEE8021X
group=WEP104 WEP40
auth_alg=OPEN SHARED
eap=PEAP
identity="[email protected]"
password="zzzzzz"
phase2="auth=MSCHAPV2"
}

Have had sporadic issues myself, and found that setting ap_scan=2 in /system/etc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf was helpful but not flawless. I reverted back to a CWM of MIUI 1.8.19 which I recalled seemed to connect without issues. On reviewing the wpa_supplicant.conf files in system and data, I noticed that the ctrl_interface was different.
ctrl_interface=DIR=/data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant GROUP=system
rather than ctrl_interface=wlan0
I haven't yet tried moving back to the latest version of MIUI to test these changes, but will do so when I get the time.
Modify below files and ensure permissions dont change
Both /data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf
and /system/etc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf
also create a new folder wpa_supplicant in /data/misc/wifi/
mkdir /data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant -m 750

The control interface is changed so that it works with other versions of wpa_supplicant. If you change it to the way it was in the older Miui then wifi won't work at all.
If it never worked (even on stock) then the issue probably isn't with wpa supplicant, and could be a problem with the wifi driver, or the hardware itself. This really needs someone who knows what they're doing and access to a hidden 802.1x network to look into it.

Was there a driver change between 1.8.19 and later MIUI versions? The supplicant seems like the same version (v 0.6.10)?
On returning to 1.8.19 have had 3 days without issues. When on 1.9.30 the change to ap_scan=2 definitely improved and seemed to make a connection on reboot flawless, but reconnection from sleep was sporadic (probably <30%). Watching wpa_cli output when waking phone from screen off on 1.9.30 showed a failed connection attempt, and then a series of timed scans (CTRL-EVENT-SCAN-RESULTS) - these continued after CTRL-EVENT-CONNECTED (something that didn't occur after toggling wifi on/off/on and connecting).

Thanks for you feedback, that really helps. Even though the version number is the same they aren't the same file.
I'll get in contact with you via pm to try and sort this out.
Thanks guys for trying!
So there is no solution yet?
Any news ?

Hi,
Yeah, it seems not much users have CS968 here in XDA but, I'm a member of XDA-Dev and I share what I have here, but you may share this thread on freaktab as yours if you wish.
I have no account on FreakTab and I don't think I may able to manage this thread on multiple forums.
So, I can answer questions only here and also publish updates of my rom.
Thanks for your interest.

@EQUANCY,
i tried your rom, looks good. few things are not wrking
1. xposed: i installed xposed framework, rebooted, then installed GravityBox, none of the tweaks in it wkrs. like transparent status bar/traffic meter.
after installing the GB and setting it up, i rebooted, but still not wrking.
2. window support is also not wrking. hv added some of the apps to wkr in window mode, but all run in full screen.
Have you tried these on ur rom ???

Yes,
Multi-window not working, but some features of Gravitybox well.
Actually I've put Multi-window by mistake, it was a bit late when I saw
However you may remove this app by following steps below.
1- Deactivate Multi-window app in Xposed modules menu (uncheck)
2- Reboot
3- Open RootBrowser and go to System/app directory
4- Long press on multi_window.apk and select Delete
I didn't tested all of modules and most of them are not working properly because of Tablet UI, I'll remove both application in next firmware mod.
Sorry for inconvenience, thanks for understanding.
Hi Equancy,
I am having issues with wifi direct. I can establish the wifi direct connection with the other device (Samsung Galaxy S3) just fine, I can send files from the box to the SG3, but I absolutely can't receive files sent from the SG3 to the box (I never even get the prompt).
I also tried to use the Superbeam app, and same story: I can send files out but not receive them.
Any clue? I am not sure whether this is specific to your ROM as I haven't tried with any other.
Cheers, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you.

hi,
Thanks for your best wishes, hoping same for you.
For the issue,
Possible answer for WiFi Direct function is Firmware related, because I didn't touched any system file except su binary and build.prop.
I also tested by my self, receiving files from TVBox is working but transfering to the device isn't via SuperBeam.
As I said before, I suppose it is a firmware bug and must be reported.
And question is:
To who
However, you may ask other users who is using another firmware versions or custom roms.

NFS help needed
I tried the rom on my cr11s and i must say its awesome except that its a bit slow.. i also can't get nfs to mount thru adb nor cifsmanager.. does the supplied nfs.ko support nfsv4? Everything else is working with no major issues.. thanks for the rom anyways...

It is very little bit slower than v1.1 but its not really noticable on 2D applications, can you specify what have you experienced actually?
I'm using a NTFS formatted NAS drive with no problem, even watching MKV files about 40-50 mbps rate. (NetGear ReadyNAS).
All of thoose modules have been supplied but not loaded by default need manually installed or you must add lines to the init.rc from system.
This can't be automatically because Kernel needs to be modified and I don't want to do that.
NFS module is actual module for RK3188.
If you more specify problem may be I can look it for you.
And for your consideration...
Some issues are FIRMWARE RELATED, because these firmwares aren't fully optimized, just generic RK3xxx roms.
Not good drivers at all...
And not all manyfacturers optimizes their own firmwares.
Produce and forget policy.

I also tried to get screen mirroring to work with the wifidisplay app included in the ROM (is this also part of the original image or did you add it?).
Again, I can set up the mirroring connection between a Samsung Note 3 and the wifidisplay app, but then actual mirroring never happens. I suspect that whatever causes wifi direct not to work also causes the mirroring not to work... pity as this is would be a nice feature...
@EQUANCY,
I have a strange issue related to sound settings, its because of the stock firmware issue, hope you give some pointers on this
in the sound devices settings, there is input sound device and o/p sound device. I understand abt the output sound device, but what is the use of input sound device ? and is by default always set. Is there a way to disable the i/p device ?.
I ask this bcasue, my sound bar sony will cutoff the sound to other devices if the cs968 device is switched-off, if in on/standby mode, the sound passthorough (via cs968 )for other devices i hv connected to my soundbar. My guess is that since sound input device is checked(Radio button on), sound bar thinks that it has to pass through cs968. If i unplug the hmdi cable from cs968, the soundbar wrks fine.
My guess is that somewhere in the settings xml file, there shd be a way of disabling the sound input device.
I tried decompiling settings.apk and settingsprovider.apk searched all file with sound as filecontent key, but could not find anything related to disabling of sound input device.
can you help me on this ???

Disabling sound input?
As much as I know, the only sound input is internal microphone.
I real don't know the other sound inputs and als no clue about disabling it.
If you mean sound output such as Analog, Optical and HDMI then may be there is option but for input, I have no idea.
Sorry.

How can I unistall app like bsplayer?
Thanks
Hi,
Open RootBrowser (usually opens in main directory) if not then got to Main Directory first then next to
\System\App
And long press the application which you want to remove and select Delete.
Or download a root uninstaller from market then uninstall what you want.
Hope this helps.

[Q] G900F HOSTS FILE is normal but couldn't add a Google account

Hi,
Dear All,
Ok, the problem is very famous i.e. i factory reset my device and when powered one like a fresh piece, i cannot add google account on my G900F (can't establish a reliable connection to the server).
i have searched a lot over the internet. Read about the HOSTS files description as well. All i found was the modification of the "etc/hosts" with the clients.google.... following "#" so that 127.0.0.1 localhost is only the operational entity.
My device is un-rooted and just for the confirmation of the above mentioned, i opened the hosts file via HTML Viewer (just readonly) and found that the etc/hosts file on my S5 has 127.0.0.1 localhost only and no any other information, which i think should be available for your device to work normal and google accounts can be added. See attached screenshot.
Need your kind help in resolving my issue please.
Try clearing caches from recovery
Still same issue...
Might be worth factory resetting again
How did you access the HOSTS files without being rooted?
did the factory reset 3 times but nothing, issue stands unresolved.
i opened the HOSTS file through RARLAB. Actually it allows you to view the root folder and all of its contents even if your phone is un-rooted.
Could try removing the device from Google Play
https://support.google.com/googleplay/answer/2407656?hl=en-GB
Create a new Google account as a test to see if the issue is the phone or the account
If that doesn't help, Id flash a stock ROM through ODIN, this will NOT trip KNOX if you are still 0x0
Are you sure all your data connections are working properly, WiFi/3/4G ?

Worth mentioning that i was operating over Wi-Fi.
1) - i flashed a stock Kitkat ANG2 ROM via odin and the problem still persists.
2) - Then i flashed stock Lollipop BOB7 and still the same.
3) - Then i created a new account via the first sign in page on the phone (after flashing the new ROM), and i was able make a new account(through my phone) but still it was unable to login on the phone.
4) - Then i installed a Proxy/VPN betternet and then i was able add an account successfully and also Play store is working fine.
5) - Means there is some issue with my wi-fi adapter routing (may be inside the phone or the carrier) etc.
6) - Then i switched off the wi-fi and enabled LTE (of my SIM card provider) and connected my phone through it, say what! its working fine.
7) - again i tried over the wi-fi and the issue started to happen again
Well, one important thing, i am using wi-fi which is also a LTE carrier (having the google issues) and the second LTE (which worked fine) is by the SIM card operator.
So , is there any problem with my wi-fi (inside the phone) or may be with the operator from which i am getting my services??
its quite confusing at the moment. well i am going to try the whole thing over the Wi-Fi of another operator and will feedback the results.
Mean while any suggestions ??
Reboot the router you are connected to WiFi from?
Doesn't sound like the phones fault, unless you have a proxy enabled in WiFI settings or something, sounds like the issue is with your ISP/Router

[GUIDE] How to change MAC Address (mido/nikel)

*DO IT ON YOUR OWN RISK*
*I WILL NOT BE HELD RESPONSIBLE IF YOU CHANGE YOUR MAC ADDRESS FOR ILLEGAL PURPOSES*
Since there's no thread about it, I'll go ahead make one.
This guide is based on my experience, so if i miss something just tell me about it.
If what you're trying to do is to fix broken MAC Address on your custom ROM, please just flash latest firmware.
Option 1
1. Requirements
- Redmi Note 4X (Snapdragon) (mido)
nikel user read text below*
- ‎ROOT access
- ‎File manager with root access (i recommend MiXplorer)
2. Download
- MiXplorer : https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/pishr...release/mixplorer-6-27-4-android-apk-download
3. Change MAC Address
- Turn off wifi
- Open your file manager
- ‎Go to system folder(which us require root access)
- ‎Open /data/misc/wifi/
- ‎Open WCNSS_qcom_cfg.ini as text, then open with text editor
- ‎Scroll down find 'Inf0MacAddress=XXXXXXXXXXX'
- Change the value to the MAC Address you want without ':'
IMPORTANT:
RULES FOR WIFI MAC ADDRESS
1.Should be 12 Digits long only
2.Should have hexadecimal characters only (0-F)
3.Second digit of mac address should be Even Digit only (0 or 2 or 4 or 6 or 8 or A or C or E)
valid example - 0205160F0A3E
invalid example - 016GEABCDF59
- Save
- Turn on wifi then done
That's all, if you can't find WCNSS_qcom_cfg.ini try option 2 in the next post
*i do not own nikel device, but based on my experience that in mediatek device you can find /data/nvram/APCFG/APRDEB, then change the value in the WIFI file. I'm not sure about the directory, just focus finding /APCFG/APRDEB/ folder. If someone succeed please tell me the exact directory in nikel please, so i can share it with you guys.
Option 2

- Install all QPST and Qualcomm Driver, reboot pc
- Open terminal emulator on your device then input commands below
su
setprop sys.usb.config diag,adb
- Open QPST and Start Client-->Software Download.
then go to Backup and take a backup
- Open a copy of the resulting file (*.qcn) in Notepad++ and search your phone's mac address as hex.
Eg. : if your mac address is 01:02:03:04:05:06 search it as 01 02 03 04 05 06
IMPORTANT:
RULES FOR WIFI MAC ADDRESS
1.Should be 12 Digits long only

invalid example - 016GEABCDF59
- You will get some search results. Now edit every search result with your desired MAC address. (approx 4 edits)
- And finally restore this edited *.qcn file and reboot your phone once complete.
That's all i wanted to share, if works simply leave a like to support me against my existential crisis. Thank
UPDATE APRIL 2019
Option 2 works on any qualcomm soc devices.
Tried it on:
- Asus Max Pro M1 (SD636)
- Redmi Note 5 Pro (SD636)
- Mi 5 (SD821)
Option 1 doesn't seem to work. I have a question for option 2, can I change MAC more than once? And do I have a fail-safe in case something goes wrong? i.e restore from a backup. TIA for answers. My reason for spoofing MAC is bypassing router bandwidth management(house rules -.-)

yes, simply keep the original .xqcn file, then restore it when things goes wrong. And I changed the mac address many times using option 2, but not recommended.
Based on my experience :
When option 2 not working at all(restore backup not working), go back to option 1.

Just tried it today since I went back to MIUI from a custom Oreo Rom. And I have to say, IT WORKS! Flawlessly!
ps.
btw, my MAC searching method was a bit different. Instead of searching it with no spaces like yours (010203040506) mine requires me to search it with a space (01 02 03 04 05 06) maybe it's because of the file type of my qcn, instead of .qcn i got .xqcn from the QPST backup. THANK YOU SO MUCH, you're a life saver mate. :good: :victory:

I'm pretty sure my device is mido (snapdragon)
if you're using custom rom, you should flash latest firmware which is based on latest miui, here's link to it, please read the thread carefully :
https://forum.xda-developers.com/re...lopment/firmware-xiaomi-redmi-note-4-t3760917
hell yea it's really good, I'm playing pubg mobile myself.
I recommend changing both cpu and gpu governor to performance in Kernel Adiutor before play
and also install app called PUBG GFX in the playstore, set it 1280x720(smooth), 60fps, disable shadows.
and before start PUBG, use app called Resolution Changer, and reduce the resolution to 16:9 450x800/576x1024
it's a bit hassle but the performance is worth it
Can confirm that method no. 2 works on my mido (running MIUI 9.5.8.0)

How to spoof WiFi Mac for Redmi Note 5 ( 5 Plus) (vince) SD625?
I can not find original mac address inside qcn file. The hex number are not matching original mac address.
Hello,
I am trying both options to change my MAC address. using option 1 I found the file (WCNSS_qcom_cfg.ini), but it was in /System/Vendor/etc/wifi. I changed the MAC address there, did a reboot and had the MAC address before the modification. Interestingly enough this MAC is not even in this file.
I decided to move that file to the /data/misc/wifi folder but that also had no effect at all. So I moved to Option 2.
I was able to get the xml version of the backup file - xqcn, as qcn gave me encoded things which I couldn't edit.
However I'm still not able to find my MAC address in the xqcn file. I have confirmed what it is by checking the phone and the router both.
And maybe the reason for all this is I'm using Mi 5s on MIUI 10 global (dev.) 8.11.15.
I'd welcome any suggestion you might have. My wife and I have the same phones and now one is stealing the other's network
Hi, while searching for a way to change the MAC Address on my Redmi Note 4 (mido) running actual LineageOS 15.1 weekly + Franco Kernel r17 I found a very easy solution.
Simply edit the mac in following file:
/sys/devices/soc/a000000.qcom,wcnss-wlan/wcnss_mac_addr
disable/enable wifi and mac address should be changed.
After a reboot your original mac gets restored.

Oxygen OS, root, APN and the meaning of life

Hi All,
I appeal to you keepers of the knowledge to enlight me on some points I need to clarify.
The situation:
I recently bought an unbranded Oneplus 6T and I (still) use stock oxygen OS V9.0.17.
Since a couple of years I've been using a data-only plan with a VOIP SIP account as my main phone service. It was working great on my beloved almost-6-years-old Nexus 5 until I dropped it to it's death. I chose the 6T as replacement because it seemed a good option for rooting and custom ROMs.
My service provider is FIDO in Canada. They offer a very good value data-only plan (15$ CAD for 4GB), but for an UNKNOWN reason to me, with FIDO the SIP calls drop automatically if I use the default autoconfigured APN for LTE. The simple solution to that is to create a new empty APN config and fill it manually. Once done, SIP calls work like a charm (again, I don't know what causes this).
On my Nexus, I was running Android 8.0 which permitted me to modify the APN. But since Android 8.1 Google (don't be evil right) introduced the APN locking for participating providers. FIDO seems to be one of them since I cannot change any APN configuration on Oxygen OS 9.0.17. That renders my phone useless (unless I choose the 3G apn, which honestly sucks).
Now that you know a little bit about my life, here are my questions.
First thing I did:
I rooted my phone with Magisk 20.0 with the intention of modifying the /system/etc/apns-conf.xml and try changing the default FIDO APN configuration with the hope it would work.
I tried by many ways to modify it (using ADB, root browser, root explorer, solid explorer) and I couldn't change the content. Even worse, when I tried to change the permissions to the file to RW using root explorer, the file turned empty (0b) and it's still impossible to modify it (I tried editing it, deleting, replacing it, nothing works).
Question 1: The simplest of ways would be to be able to change the APN. Does anybody knows a trick (using root or not) to do that on stock OOS 9.0.17. Anybody ever tried changing apns-conf.xml?
Question 2: Did anybody succefylly edit system files onstock OOS 9.0.17 using root?
Question 2-A: Does anybody know why I break the file when I change the permission? I'd like to understand what's going on.
Another option that I am considering is using a custom ROM that disables this nonsense APN lock mechanism.
Question 3: Does anybody have a good ROM suggestion that is positively disabling this APN lock and that would allow me to change my APN with FIDO? (I was considering Lineage but I couldn't get a firm answer on the APN unlock capability).
I searched the web for many hours without success, I hope you can help me with this.
Thank you all for your insight.

Yes! I tried that many times.
So, what happens is when you have an "APN locked SIM" inserted in the device, you have no access to any edit option. No editing, no adding, nothing. You are in view mode for the APN settings (which is useless really).
In my research I found that if you insert a "not APN locked SIM" you get acces to creating a new APN (and of course editing the actual SIM APN settings).
I happen to have a SIM card (my girlfriend's) that is not APN locked on hand. I tried a couple of times creating a new APN with the FIDO settings but when I inserted back the FIDO SIM my new APN was not in the list of options.
... I should have deepened my research! I failed at that...
What I didn't realize at the time is that when you create a new APN, Android defaults the MCC and MNC parameters with the values associated with the currently inserted SIM!!! I tought it was some kind of black magic settings used by the service provider for it's network to work. But not later than TODAY (I did more research today...) I learned that: MCC = Mobile Country Code and MNC = Mobile Network Code. ****!!!
Sooooo, all I had to do is create a new APN with my girlfriend's SIM inserted and set (along with all the other settings) the MCC and MNC to the values corresponding to FIDO config (which in the past I left as is since I didn't know what they were). Save. Shut down my device. Insert FIDO SIM, reboot, and fuc**ng VOILA!!! The newly created APN is now available and... wait for it... EDITABLE!!! So if I messed-up any setting I can change it and play around with everything like we did when Google was not Evil.
So here I am with my un-activated FIDO SIM and I can confirm that my newly created APN is selectable, but I cannot try a SIP call for now since I've closed my account. Tomorrow I'll get a new subscription & SIM and update this post. But I think this part is solved.
All that being said, Question 1 is partially answered to my greatest pleasure. But I'd still like to hear your experiences about modifying sytem files on OOS with root access.
