I'm noticing very slow data speeds on Verizon network, probably slower than my gs4. Have unlimited data.
I see there have been a couple others posts on this, some suggesting a DNS issue? Either way, I'm wondering how many of uare having this issue? Am considering returning or exchanging the Phone. It's driving me crazy.
Of course, any fix would be even more appreciated!!

It is not the device, since have the same issues with the Note 4.
it's verizon and their crap service. I'm lucky if my lte can pull more than 3mbps most of the time and I get great service. it's just their "world class network" is garbage.

I've contacted VZW about this and they put my off by saying that my phone was unsupported. They always have to make everything so difficult...

I have about half of what I used to have speed wise with my Turbo. At home I would get about 40ish down (50 on good days) now I get about half. I did start an exchange rma and I am waiting for the new device. I have a feeling it will be the same though. I find wifi does the same thing though.
If I go into an area with XLTE (band 4), I can easily get download speeds greater than 50Mbps
I've been noticing the same thing lately. I live and work in the middle of Houston. Today I had full bars of lte and was getting .1 mbps up and down. Others with me were getting the same and there was a mix of iphones and Android. Those with T-Mobile were getting much faster speeds... I don't think it is the device. I've just noticed a worse network lately

More people using Verizon than T-Mobile so it only stands to reason that the T-Mobile pipe has more room to flow data to its users. Maybe if more jump ship from Verizon (like they say they will) then us Verizon users will get faster and all the others will slow down. Can't win!

My data speeds have gotten slower and slower over the past couple of months. I cant even stream a youtube video without it buffering to hell. WTF SPRINT! I know I cant be getting throttled hell my billing cycle just started.
My speeds go up and down.. Some days thier fast and smooth and some days their just slow and laggy. I dont get it...
Yeah I have the same slowdown for my data speed as well. First I thought it was just me and all my flashing addiction but after seeing this glad I'm not the only one who noticed it.
I noticed this over the last week.
swyped from my gingerbread'd Evo 4G
The last 2 weeks have been getting worse and worse for me. I am going to call sprint tomorrow.

Have you paid attention to what time of day data speed slows down? Could be just the network being overloaded in your area. For example I start work at 7am and if I run a SpeedTest during 6:50a-8ish I am in the 700-800kb range in my office. If I run the same test after 10a I see anywhere from 200-500kbs. The worst is near lunch hour and after 3pm....damn kids! lol

Mines has gotten terrible no matter what time - and I check at the dead of night most of the time. Used to get 1.5-2 Mbps, down to .5-1 Mbps now-a-days.
.1-.4 mbps up and down all day and nite, from. .8-1.2 up and down.

This is what happens when carriers keep adding subscribers, but are unable to keep their backhaul data pipes expanding. They need subscribers in order to build infrastructure, so we the consumer suffer in the meantime.

I also have to imagine that Android being Sprint's biggest smart OS doesn't help. WinMo/BB just kind of idles when it.. idles. Android on the other hand is built to have constant background data updating, now add a bunch of both old and new subscribers who don't know better and leave the short default polling of their thousand and one apps, and you got a scaling problem.
Its quite annoying. Forget trying to stream anything its pointless lol. There was a point where I could watch netflix with no buffer, now it takes it like 20 minutes just to get to the point where itll actually play. I dont even use it much anymore because as soon as it finally plays the buffer will kick right back in. DAMN I really dont want to have to get this AT&T DSL garbage.
Same issue with me in Wisconsin.
Had 2 friends standing next to me, 1 Verizon 1 AT&T...They both passed the 2mb mark while I chugged along at 350ish k
I used to get awesome service outside Milwaukee but now it seems like complete crap
I called sprint today about the slow data issue, I'm in green bay wi. She told Mr that a lot of people on Wisconsin have been complaining about slow data speeds. Something about waiting to get approval to add something to their towers to speed up data. Who knows it sounds fishy to me, thank God I have roam control to get better speed off Verizon's towers.

I noticed my 3g going to crap over the past month because I stream Pandora all day. Plus just looking at the bars I could tell the signal was not as good (I haven't run any speed tests).
Discovered today however that my 4g now rocks! I'll be using 4g as often as possible now. I didn't notice a big difference in battery drain because while 3g struggled, 4g flew, so I think that evened out.
This is my subjective opinion of course.

Same here, I work in downtown Phoenix and it's POINTLESS trying to stream anything over 64k quality after 2pm. I thought it was Pandora sucking, so I switched to shoutcast on Xiialive, same thing. In the morning it's fine for the most part, but once all the kids get home from school the entire network goes to crap. I don't care about 4g, I just want decent 3g... oh yeah, my speeds are .6mbs in the evening and at the slowest i'm pushing .09mbs per speedtest.net app.
What are you getting for speed test? It shows HSPA, but not HSPA+ (I don't think?). Sacramento has good LTE according to AT&T...
(edit: if there is another thread, direct me please?)
Nexus 7 doesn't have LTE radios... you only get 3G.
Doesn't it have HSPA+? I saw the nexus 4 get like double or triple the speed on HSPA+ (but they were on tmobile...)

haha, definitely! i never got those speeds on Tmobile's HSPA+, tho my device maxxed at 1.2 Ghz, if that makes a difference.
tried again on new rom, had more APN connections. tried the att LTE and it doubled the speed to about 2000kbps now. getting better! it a rural area too.
edit: now around 3000-4000kbps. much better. was barely getting into the thousands earlier.
Ah there you go, that's getting better. Despite the good speeds, the network has been annoying me a bit lately. Sometimes i will have a perfect connection, my status will show HSPA 10, with excellent signal, yet i can't connect to anything, can't load anything. I wonder if it's because it's L.A., and there are millions of iPhones and others on the network, and data-only plans don't get priority? The priority thing is my theory at the moment anyway, haha. I have never experienced this on my smartphones, but then again, this is my first experience with AT&T mobile data.

same here, no idea on the att mobile data, could be second class customers. haha. yes, much better, i'll test in the city in a bit, hopefully it'll be a lot better. are you custom rom? running cm10.1 now, seems better. might fix some data connection issues?
Yeah, you will probably get some good speeds in the city. I'm running stock 4.2.1, but I have thought about trying CM 10.1, but not just for that reason. I think I might call AT&T later and see if I can find out about the tablet plans. I have heard about some customers not having priority, like if you are subscribed to a sister company but are running on the same network as the main carrier. I'll let you know what I find out.

That shows that you are on WiFi though.
Has anyone tried tmobile? I talked to support and they said they have prepaid plans for tablets. Might go try it out and see if I can use their service. I heard people having trouble, but that was for the regular mobile plan. Maybe the data only plan will work, and be much faster. Going in today, I'll let you know and then post results if things go well.
Cool, let us know. When i fist got the device a month ago, they said they didn't have any tablet plans all they could offer me is a wifi hotspot device.
OmG **** ATT. Tmobile FTW. Haha.
edit: if you want more info, just went into the store and asked about the mobile broadband plans. I said some people had trouble online, but It was probably because they tried their phone sim card. this is data only or something, so it worked right as i put it in the slot and rebooted. So much faster. Wow. $35 for 3.5GB. Same pricing as AT&T basically. WAY faster.
And they stay consistent too.
Well here is my dilemma, hoping I can get some feedback from you guys.
I've had a concession account with Verizon for the past 3 years. I recently had to make the switch to a consumer account and am currently on the 2GB family share with 2 lines. I don't feel comfortable with just 2GB, but I really don't want to shell out for the additional 2GB. VZW only offered to cover the difference of the additional 2GB for a year, and I'd cover the 2nd and I'm not really down for that either....which leads me to sprint.
They look to offer the best bang for my buck, even going as far as paying $100 per line to switch which is pretty nice. I almost pulled the trigger on this until the Rep explained that sprint has no 4G!?!? I was shocked by this because I was under the impression they were one of the first to have it.
So to my question. To those of you that currently have a S4 with sprint, in general, how are the speeds on their current network? Verizon's S3 is the only 4G device I've owned and I was blown away by the difference in speed when coming to the S3. Will I notice a huge slow down? Will I notice anything at all?
As always, any help is GREATLY appreciated!
Thanks!

It varies between cities but yes sprint does have 4G, in my city its not that good but yes I see 4G a lot, best thing you could do is find some local with sprint and a 4G lte phone and tell em to let you test the internet speed, I'd say Radioshack is a good spot for that since the manager there most times carries the latest phones with him at least in my local radioshack lol

Sprint has 4G in certain markets in the form of WiMax & LTE. Obviously the S4 on Sprint is LTE. 3G speeds on Sprint are terrible (typically 1mbps or slower downstream) and LTE varies depending on the area. I will get 20+ mbps in some areas and others less than 10.
Sprint is considered by most to have the slowest network of any of the USA "big 4" carriers. Check the coverage map for your area to see what options you have. If there is no LTE in your area yet than it will be slow.

It all depends on your city, and your phone. When I had the iPhone, I rarely got 4G and mainly stayed on 3G. It wasn't awful, and it got what I needed done with quick loading times. (Facebook, twitter, etc), but I also had super weak signal with it. When I got the S4, I've been getting full bars of 4G and have not been falling back to 3G and it's FAST. Videos load up quick, everything is almost instant. I also live in KC and Sprint has had longer to rollout 4G in my area.

Well after checking out all of the plans from the big 4, I am looking at a difference of $120/yr for my setup.
The way I've come to see it is I spend much more on A LOT of other much less important things. In the grand scheme of things paying a premium is also going to get me a much more reliable and faster network, if nothing else peace of mind. Although I still find it ridiculous what consumers are charged for data.

Here is what you have to realize with the current LTE roll out...
Some areas have 4G LTE coverage but its not officially on yet... It is in a "Test Phase". It is typically on about 25%-50% of normal levels. That is for both SPEED and RANGE. If you are seeing any speeds below 10mbs then it is most likely in the test phase. Most test phase towers have a 4g range of about 3-4 miles. This is also at about 25%-50% range. Towers that are at official and running at normal operation levels are seeing over 20mbs up to 40mbs and ranges over 7-8 miles.
Here in Michigan I know of a dozen or so "test" towers and they are all operating at that speed and coverage range. I usually see anywhere from 8mb to 17 on these towers in mid day. Night time is much higher.
The few full speed towers I have been connected to have had speeds over 30mbs and ranges of much further than I expected.
This is supposedly the way its happening all across the country according to the Network Admin I've talked to in Kansas.
In my area (Memphis) sprint is excruciatingly slow. On 3g I get maybe 300k/s, on 4g I get maybe 2m/s.
Moving to San Antonio soon. If it isn't faster there in going to have to switch back to AT&T or Verizon.

This is hardly accurate. It depends on the tower, traffic in a area etc. There are different types of towers and equipment being used in areas. I'm assuming you aren't a radio technician. This is somewhat true and accurate but those speeds probably won't be unfortunately. More like 5mb-15mb down on average. 20mb down would be awesome. But it is impossible to say for sure, there is way to many variables.

I have no clue about the variability of speeds from test phase towers to full speed ones or any of that. Or the range of them or the truth to what the other guy said..
But I can tell you that I consistently get 30mbps and even higher in San Francisco on 4g. And in some of the other networks I've been have the same - if you look at the 4g speed test thread you'll see that people are getting 25-35 in some areas.

It would probably save me around 60 a month from sprint since I have two lines...and thats even with my discount with Sprint. Basically, I just want to know about service and coverage in general. Was there a difference in signal between the two in your everyday activities? I still want a slider phone and you can get a cheap and clean mytouch 4g slide for around 150. I want to stay with the slider and the upfront cost of the phone and savings with tmobile would pay for itself in 5 or 6 months. Plus i do not think a decent slider will be released anytime soon. Thoughts? Thanks in advance

I convinced my girlfriend to switch to TMobile from at&t. She gets decent downlink speeds on their hspa+ (about 12mbps in certain areas) and her coverage is pretty good. Sprint sucks in my opinion, having been on their network in the past and having reports from my brother (also on sprint). I would switch, especially if it will save you money and you don't have an etf.

The photon Q really wasn't a bad phone. It just never took off
HTC ONE! Everything your phone isn't!
I love T-Mobile. In my area they blow sprint completely out of the water. Fastest download speeds ive had werr around 15-16 mbps wherr with sprint in the same places od get 300kbps...only thing i dont like about T-Mobile is the truly unlimited plan is 70 per month.
Also if you get the My touch MAKE sure its the HTC one. If not your throwing money away.

I have no experience with T-mobile but I absolutely hate sprint speeds and plan to jump ship as soon as my contract is up.
T-Mobile is good if your in an area with decent coverage. But they are areas coverage isn't good. Where I live it is great. Even in smaller rural towns. Seemed to be similar in Arizona and California. Went to Michigan and it was horrible in Lansing. All depends on your area.

Yeah...that's what I've been reading. Do you think the htc 4g slide is still a decent phone? I know they are still pretty active with the development of it. But it is almost two years old. But it is a hard deal to pass up for 150. I think the newest tmo slider is the Samsung relay, but the support for it is small.
Yeah, sprint service is hit or miss by the day and the data is really slow. Coverage really hasn't been an issue with sprint as it has been great, but the data speed varies tremendously.

Well its def better than the off brand myTouch lol.
But in all seriousness they have tons of ports most of them have broken features. And that's not taking a shot at the Team SwArM because I am still with them just haven't devved in a while.
Battery life on the newer JB ROMs will suck some juice at a rate of up to 2% per few minutes of screen on time etc. And with every release of Android it will be like that (aosp).
Sliders are dying man, the relay was a fail...does it even have a dedicated forum topic yet?

Is this normal? I have been on AT&T for years and just came back to VZW with Turbo. This is not an XLTE area so should I see 100mbps+ once that happens. This is sort or bonkers for me.
Yup, It's for real. No XLTE here either. I'd kill for root so I could use this thing for hotspot.

Yea that's about right
Yep, that's normal. The Turbo's radio seems worlds better than my S4's.

I also got around 59 mbps. Couldn't believe it. The highest I got with my S4 was around 26-28.
I just pulled 90Mbps down with my G3, it's not the phone, Verizon has just really improved their network lately.

In my case it was the phone. Tested them around the same time on the same cell tower. I think the S4 just has really bad radios, including bluetooth. I couldn't walk more than 5 feet away from a bluetooth device without it cutting out. Now I can get 30+ ft.
Really depends on your area.
I used to get speeds like this when LTE was new, but now that all new phones have it, not so much anymore.
Get into a more congested area like a city and that drops off significantly.
Motorolas have always has good radios. Although, Verizon here in phoenix has been pretty crappy lately. Im lucky to be getting 5-6 in the last 2 weeks. Even on my S4 it was just as bad.
LOL I thought the same thing when I switched to Verizon after moving back down south. I lived in the Chocagoland area, so AT&T had great service, never dropped a call, and I thought their speed over 4g were fast. Then I moved down to Southern Alabama, AT&T has spotty service, so I switched to Verizon, and I get triple the speeds out here in the sticks, than I got with AT&T in the city.
I get 90mbps all day long in Chicago....

That sucks. I'm getting 8-10 down in an XLTE town... Bad unit or what?
