Issues with smn910w8 - Rooting - Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

After i got my note 4 i rooted it and everything was going fine until i installed the xposed framework app, i didn't install the framework itself but the phone got messed up. I flashed the stock firmware which fixed the issues but now whenever i try to root the phone again using cf auto root it goes into an endless boot cycle which can be fixed by flashing stock firmware. The worst part is all my contacts were backed up with titanium backup which requires root. Also I'm wondering about cyanogen mod and if there are any working builds since the Canadian bell isn't listed.

HELP! - Titanium backup Killed GPS and a few settings.

I have a Note 3 running stock 4.4.2. I rooted successfully using the towel root method as shown here.. http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-3/general/root-root-xxufnf4-stock-firmware-knox-t2840150. I installed SuperSU and Titanium Backup (the non-pro version) from Google Play.
I used the phone and all the features for three days. However yesterday I ran a backup for the first time using Titanium backup ( all settings and apps) and since then my GPS seems to have conked off.... it keeps hunting and does not get a lock. I have tried rebooting multiple times, tried using it with both with Google Maps and Sygic (paid version) but both dont get a GPS lock. I was using the GPS successfully till then, so I have to assume the Titanium backup process must have messed something up . Additionally, immediately after the back up process was over, I found a lot of my setting were gone. I lost the wall paper I had set (reverted to a blank one), keyboard reverted to default Samsung keyboard from Swype, etc. This further reinforces my feeling the backup process mucked something up.
I am sure this is not normal. While the other settings was able to change manually, I cannot do without GPS. Pls help!

Not sure what your level of expertise is, but simplest would be to run a Nandroid backup to your extSDCard, then reflash the ROM. You will then need to re-root etc. One thing to be aware of - when going to Download Mode, ALWAYS power off, remove the battery for 10 secs or so, insert it and hold down the keys to get into DL mode.
Once the firmware is installed & you've got root, you can Restore the Data from your nandroid and be back where you were.
I don't know how running a backup could do anything like you describe - maybe a Restore might do something, but I've been using TB for a couple of years with nothing like that.

I am an absolute newbie wrt flashing etc. I am a sales guy - so my computer knowledge is layman-ish. I can follow instructions though! This is the first time i am trying something with an Android phone - my earlier trysts were limited to unlocking my iPhone 2 some 7 years back!
1. I used this method of rooting since it does not trigger knox. I will look up Nandriod backup - any links you can point me to will help. Only worry is does Nandriod trigger knox?
2. The towel root method only needed me to flash back the kernel related to my ROM (GNJ1) . Do you think reflashing that kernel again will do or do I have to flash the whole ROM again?
3. Do I have to unroot etc before I flash the ROM?
4. Lastly - Do I use KIES 3 to reflash the ROM? (to keep the warranty etc intact)

Nandroid has to do with the Recovery you install. TBH I don't know if installing a custom recovery like TWRP will actually trip Knox if you are currently rooted and HAVEN'T tripped it. My bet is it would. If you have all your apps saved in TB, you could use a root browser like ES File Explorer to make sure you have any photos, Media etc. copied to your extSDCard before doing anything else. Shouldn't have to unroot as normally the firmware will flash over the top, then you need to follow the root procedure again - I haven't used Towelroot so maybe ask in that thread?

Flashed xposed framework now wifi doesn't work

I managed to root my device and successfully installed xposed framework, and now I can't get my wifi to work at all.
Does anyone have any idea how to fix this other than going all the way back to stock?
I have tried flashing the mm modem. It still doesn't work.
I did notice when I looked in the build prop the WiFi channels are blank?
Is anyone who has wifi working able to see what they normally say?

This happened to me as well. I made sure to have the "uninstall xposed" zip on my phone and flashed that, and after I did so, wifi was OK again. Here are the xposed modules I installed:
flashed: xposed-v82-sdk23-arm64.zip
I never got as far as installing the xposed installer apk, as when I noticed wifi was gone, I flashed the uninstaller:
xposed-uninstaller-20150831-arm64.zip
I personally used xposed-v81-sdk23-arm64.zip and it seemed to work well without breaking wifi. For what its worth, rooting with the latest SuperSU broke my wifi, but flashing BETA-SuperSU-v2.62-3-20151211162651.zip worked out alright.
As far as reverting the changes you've made so far, if you are sure it was xposed that broke your wifi and not SuperSU, then flash the xposed uninstaller. If it may have been something else, just reflash boot and system from a TWRP backup (hopefully you backed up). If for any reason you dont have a backup, download the stock image for whatever version you are currently on, put it on your SD card, then in TWRP, backup your data partition, then flash the firmware zip over, and then restore the data partition backup, and in theory things should work out, no guarantees though.
OK, just flashed the xposed-v81-sdk23-arm64.zip and the wifi is fine. I am getting "unfortunately messenger has stopped" messages now. I've installed Gravitybox for MM. The tweaks seem to be working.

Help with Root and Recovery please!

Hello.
My Galaxy S4 was dying so T-Mobile just replaced it with an S5. It came with:
LMY47X.G900TUVS1FOJ4
I clicked on Software updates in About device and it did whatever updates, but the version stayed the same. Then I went to autoroot [dot] chainfire [dot] eu and downloaded the correct file to root. I unzipped the file and ran Odin 3.10.6 that came with it. I was able to root the device no problem.
What seemed like a problem afterward was that I couldn't find SuperSU in the Application list. I know the phone was rooted though because I could launch Titanium Backup to restore all my stuff from the S4. I went to the Play Store to download SuperSU. It kept complaining that I needed a new binary, but it would fail every time to update. I even tried downloading the latest SuperSU zip to install in the recovery mode, but that failed too. I really wasn't too worried about this.
While looking up how to root the S5, I saw some posts where people mentioned their root access stopped after 24 hours. I just experienced this when I launched Titanium Backup to begin uninstalling bloatware. I was informed that I didn't have root access anymore.
I figured I'd try to reflash the auto-root through Odin. According to Odin, everything passed, but looking at the device, it said it's already patched and the restore failed, so it aborted.
Now the device is stuck in an infinite reboot loop. I can access both the download and recovery modes, but that's it.
I'd really really like to not have to do a factory wipe as it was a pain to get everything copied over from the S4.
Can I flash it with something else?
Once I can get back in the device, how do I keep the device rooted? Do I have to flash TWRP or CWM?
The only root program I use is Titanium Backup and would really really like to keep using it to makr regular backups.
Thanks a lot.
Try booting into recovery and wiping the CACHES
If it still won't boot, grab a stock ROM from sammobile .com for your model S5 (G900T by the looks of the ROM name) and flash it with ODIN from download mode
That won't wipe your data or anything you've restored, as long as you don't reset
If it still won't boot, you might have to suck it up and factory reset after flashing stock
Was the TiBu backup you restored, rooted? Maybe restoring the backup restored an old version of SuperSU and broke the CF AR version
Might need to go down the TWRP and SuperSU from TWRP recovery route to get it rooted properly if CF AR isn't woprking 100%, which it doesn't for a fair few people
I tried clearing the cache, but that didn't work.
Is there a way to download the stock ROM without having to create an account on the download site?
The Titanium Backup I restored was rooted. Everything was totally fine, until I went back to TB and it suddenly told me I wasn't rooted anymore.
I did try TWRP after I made the original post. I think messed up the device, but I can get in now. I flashed the latest version and booted into Recovery Mode. I clicked on Fix Permissions and possibly one other thing. It let booted farther before the infinite bootloop. It'd show my lock screen and give me 1-2 seconds before rebooting. If I swiped quickly, I could see the home screen with most of my icons gone. Clicked on Apps shows most of the apps are gone. When I removed the SIM card, I stopped getting the infinite bootloop. Here are the list of important programs I have left:
Contacts (all cleared out), Gallery (all present), Messages (all present), My Files (shows files from previously installed programs that I can no longer access), Phone (works when I put the SIM card back in), Settings
Unfortunately, TB and the Play Store are both gone. I might be able to install stuff using adb or by copying files over. I haven't tried, but it doesn't look good. I tried reflashing the CF ROM. It didn't change anything. I suspect I may be looking at a factory reset at this point. I'm happy to try any other suggestions.
Thank you.

Wut? lol, just make one, it's free...
XDA does not spoon feed
I created an account and downloaded the stock ROM. I flashed the device and got most of the programs to appear again though the Play Store was still missing. I decided to cut my losses and just do a factory reset. I rooted again and put everything back in place. Now I'm experiencing the problem where I lost root after a day or so of use. I'll start a new thread.
Thanks for your help.

Galaxy S5 - Xposed_Framework Alpha 3.0 BootLoop

Hi & thanks in advance for reading.
I over looked part of the post by rovo89. It states in large Red font that said Stock Samsung ROMS will almost always end in a boot loop.
I'm fairly new still to XDA and modular application.
So here's what happened.
I rooted my Galaxy S5 SM-G900P 6.01 then installed Xposed Installer and began to download a few modulars. Everything downloaded fine, my SuperSU worked just as it should. Then I noticed I didn't have Framework fully installed so through reading the XDA forums and my research on the web. Seemed that my only option was to option was to test the Xposed Installer Alpha 3.0 which brings me to my question.
(I understand the risks involved and blame no one but myself, but any advice would be great because I'm a noob.)
My situation - I installed the Xposed Framework zip for lollipop 5.0 ,5.1 & Marshmello 6.0 with my factory Samsung ROM then I downloaded the amv.87 patch because I assumed it was AMv7 and then I flashed it via FlashFire into my system and during the reboot I got BootLooped. Now I was foolish enough to not set up a backup or uninstall Xposed framework or Xposed disabled on my SD card... Now
My question what can I do to attempt to fix this, I have Odin 13.11 & I downloaded my factory ROM from Samsung & I downloaded the Xposed framework uninstalled zip on my laptop for a possible fix.
Is it possible I remove my SD card and transfer the Xposed uninstalled or Xposed disabled to my SD card on my laptop then boot up Recovery on my Galaxy S5 then try updating via my SD card?
I just don't want to ruin my phone since I feel like this is a possible fix even if it involves a format.
Thanks in advance I'm gonna keep trying to figure it out.:fingers-crossed::laugh:

The problem is not Root. It works fine with root.
When you go to log into Snapchat, it checks to see if xposed is installed. If it is, it will say there is a problem and will not log you in. You should check your rom to see if it is installed (the files may be there but the app may not).
If i was you, i would clear the snapchat data and then uninstall it. Then, download the "uninstall zip" for xposed. You may say it is not installed, however, elements may still be there. running this in recovery will remove all files. When that has been flashed, you can then install snapchat. Once logged into snapchat, you can then return to recovery and install xposed if you want.
I am currently running snapchat with root and exposed. It will work.

Okay. But snapchat does not have issues with root. What custom Rom are you running if any? Just asking as stopping root will disable xposed, therefore allow the use of snapchat.

Hi guys I am having the very same issue. I initially rooted my s7 edge and snapchat was working until recently after accidentally logging out. I now can't login to snapchat!
I do not have xposed installed on my phone so it can't be completely because of root.
How do I unroot my phone? and will this mean I need to create a backup of my phone?
Thanks!
***** app
I just installed Renovate Edge 3.3 and snapchat doesn't work. Any solutions?
I don't have xposed, and I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling.

I'm the one who asked the question 2 posts below yours. I have managed to install Snapchat finally after a whole day or searching.
So... yes you have to unroot and reinstall the stock firmware. This will wipe everything off your phone, so yes you have to back your phone up.
After you unroot, you have to log into Snapchat, backup Snapchat up with Titanium, root and install your custom rom and then restore Snapchat with Titanium.
It worked for me. Now I have Renovate Edge 3.3 ROM and the latest update of Snapchat.
As for unrooting, see this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=69426561&postcount=5
Note: Unrooting doesn't fix Knox trip (warranty stays void)

Thanks for that. I never installed a custom rom although i really would like to. I'm new to the roit world and customisation rom wise so need to do some research on it. At the moment I'm using my s5 as a play toy for customisation.
Regarding the SC i just fully unrooted my s5 then logged in to SC. After doing so i created a back up using Titanium back up. Then transfered data across to my s7 edge and restored data which allowed me to log in. I could have just unrooted my s7 edge, then logged in and then re-root but as a noob didn't want to risk any data loss from s7 edge.
What would you suggest as a good custom rom for the s7 edge? I'm using stock rom and don't currently have twrp installed (I'm still new on twrp front and benefits of it too).
Thanks!
Ignore the instructions about unrooting and reflashing stock firmware..
All you have to do is uninstall Snapchat, uninstall Xposed. Reboot phone. Install snapchat and login, go into Titanium Backup and backup the "app data."
Then install Xposed, reboot, restore the data of Snapchat via Titanium Backup and your set. I used to run into this issue all the time when rooted and using Xposed
I have unrooted my s7 edge and flashed stock rom and the problem is solved in my device.

No problem. I thought you had installed a custom rom. Since you hadn't, unrooting would do the trick. In my case, it didn't work. I had to go back to stock firmware and then use Titanium.
As for a good custom rom, I've only tried Renovate Edge. It's pretty awesome. I did some research and compared popular roms and found out it's one of the 1st built roms for S7 edge and is still considered one of the best.
