The history of my S4 LPH-L720:
1. I bought this when it was first released in May of 2013.
2. I've been using custom roms for a solid 2 years and the issue just started within the last 6 months.
The problem:
1. Recently it's been dropping the data connection completely, which requires me to cycle airplane mode to get it back (cycling Data Connection does nothing).
2. This happens with LTE and EVDO connections, but if I force it to CDMA (1X) then I don't experience the data drops.
3. This is happening with multiple Sprint towers as well.
My questions for the community are:
1. If my phone is slowly dying then I'm considering another Sprint S4 (L720 not the L720T) on eBay, but I wanted to see if others with the original S4 are having similar issues with data connections, in case it's a Sprint specific thing.
I need the non-spark model because I can use voice and LTE data at the same time. This is very handy when I need to tether and still use my phone.
2. Are their any Sprint LTE bands that this phone is incompatible with that could be causing this issue?
Thank you for your input!

Yes. I had to reflash the stock rom to update PRL and Profile, then I reloaded by custom rom.
I may try this one more time though, by going with the stock rom for a week and see if it keeps happening.

Installed MM a couple days ago and ever since then I can only get ~1mbps for both dl and ul. Is there a permissions I need to toggle to get the right speeds or is this a known issue? Occasionally I have been getting more dropped signals when on GSM/LTE so I just use global now. Is anyone experiencing the same with t-mobile? Thanks in advance.

FYI, I already did the binge off on the TMO website. Maybe I'll wait 24hrs to see if that helps.

This user toggled it on the phone it appears..

I already toggled it off since yesterday. But now I get slower speeds then before when on LP. Any users keep their settings on LTE/GSM/UMTS? I used to be on that fine but it seems that it's making me use Global because of frequent dropped signals...

Go to cellular Network Settings and create a new APN Name it T-Mobile US LTE, and only change the properties on these 3 options below, the rest leave as they are. it works for me. I've been getting up to 64Mbps download and 30Mbps speeds...
Name: T-Mobile US LTE
APN: fast.t-mobile.com
APN Protocol: Ivp4/Ivp6
and on Preffered Network type = Global

I have been losing service randomly on mine using T-Mobile. I look at my phone and there is no bars. So I switch back to GSM/lte and signal comes back.
same here. Reported at android central too. Nexus 6 has same problem and solution is flashing lollipop radio I believe
Can we flash lollipop radio for DT2 considering it's not rooted?:silly:
For me it is repeatable to disable and enable Binge and had data locked at 1mbps with it on and good speed off.
That is when I have a connection. Using my old G3 until I see a solution to the dropping cellular connection I'm getting since MM
So I'm not the only one experiencing this phenomenon. If I switch to LTE /GSM, it'll drop and ask to switch to Global. Toggling on/off airplane mode will help, but how will I know when u lose signal? I have friends calling and leaving VMs. I never get the miss call... Just the VM notification. This sucks MM!

When I place a call I get a popup saying:
"Call remain in cellular network. Voice and data charges will apply."
Does anyone know what this is?
I have the AT&T S7 on Cricket.
I only get this when I have WiFi on, so I was thinking something to do with WiFi calling, however I do not think that AT&T even have WiFi calling for the S7 and if they do I have no idea how to turn it off.

Yes I get it on every call. Same as you, I'm using AT&T s7 edge on cricket. I'm curious what it is also.
Same thing is happening on my wife's Galaxy S7 (not edge) on Cricket. But it isn't happening on my Galaxy S7 (also on Cricket).
Do you have wifi calling enabled? Maybe this is letting you know it is not using wifi for the call. Just a guess

I think it's this enhanced lte services, but I'm not sure, I'll test out in a sec
Edit::
Nvm, that's not it either. Turned it off and still saying it
I'm not in the US myself so I don't know much about AT&T. However, after some research the best I can find is with AT&T Dual-Mode Mobile Voice. Is it possible this could be the cause of this message?

So essentially Wi-Fi calling. I know they enabled it for iPhone last year. Possible maybe they are doing testing with the s7/s7 edge
If it is WiFi calling I just want to know how to turn it off.
This popup is annoying and in the way of the buttons.
I get the same thing when placing a call on my s7 AT&T
I have both the S7 and the S7 Edge and get the notification whenever I place a call on either of them while I have WiFi on.
did anyone figure this out .. have the same issue .. def gets in the way
I'm talking to Samsung right now. I'll post if I figure it out.
This is the response I got from Samsung.
It only happens to me when wifi is on but very weak. Probably a holdover from the wifi calling routine that doesn't get disabled when wifi calling is off.
Hi forreros!
First off, my appologies if this has been asked/answered. I've searched the forum for 4g/data connection/mobile data, etc but haven't found anything on it.
My A1 won't connect to 4G networks. I've had it a week and it's hit and miss. It updated to 8.0 last night. Now it's worse. It won't connect at all.
It's the global version. I'm in the UK. I use a Vodafone UK SIM and a Spanish Vodafone SIM. I use the Spanish SIM for data. Roaming is enabled (the APNs that the Vodafone SIM configures automatically for network connections are airtelnet.es and airtelwap.es)
I've done some troubleshooting...
I've found that when I make a phone call while the A1 is connected to a 4g signal the data connection starts working and, for example, Whatsapp messages enter while the call is live or web pages load. But, when I hang up the call the data connection is lost.
I've changed the Preferred Network Type to 3G on the Cellular Network Settings page. Data connection works fine when I tell the phone to only connect to 3G.
But, I switch it back to 4G and the connection is lost. A little "x" appears in the bottom right corner of the network data strength icons in the upper status bar. The little arrows that appear next to the icons also don't work... only the ^ (up) arrow appears. The down (download) arrow stops appearing.
I've also read online that by dialing *#*#4636#* #* you can change the Preferred Network Type. I've tried 3 different ones (the original one chosen was TD-SCDMA/CDMA/UMTS) and none of them fix the problem.
There are some screenshots attached. Can this be fixed? I want to make a decision ASAP. If it can't be easily fixed, I need to notify GearBest and get it replaced/return it.
Thank you.
Ray

Hello biggun3791,
any update on this? I've recently bought 3 Xiaomi A1 phones and on one of them there is same issue you faced. Please let me know your findings.
I got the same issue, asked help for it before but no real help was given.
The most annoying part is that even if you get it working again, that service menu's settings don't stick, it will revert at a random point in time. Planning on selling this phone and just moving on to a more reliable one.
reboot seems the only temporary fix for this...
greetings,
I have an ATT S7 G930A and I'm currently living overseas in Auckland New Zealand. The phone is unlocked from ATT and using a SIM from the providers down here works fine, but the WIFI Calling is grayed out and I'm quite certain I am not receiving any updates via OTA due to me not being in the USA. I've tried using a VPN to set myself in the US and then tried to update but that didn't work. Can anyone let me know what the right steps are, if any, to flash my phone to something else to make the WIFI Calling work? The service down here is terrible so WIFI calling would make all the difference. I've attached a photo of the About Device currently on my phone. Any advice would be truly appreciated!!!

Wi-fi calling only works on the firmware that is built specifically for the carrier. (I.E. ATT's wi-fi calling feature is incompatible with T-mobile,Verizon,etc) The only exception to this rule is iPhones which dynamically update their settings to match the carrier, and use their own wi-fi calling protocol.
Since you have a snapdragon variant, It's unlikely that the cell carrier you're using in NZ will have a firmware for your phone (I would assume they use the exynos variant there) so, essentially your are boned. I'd recommend just selling your phone and getting a carrier-branded phone there or even *shudder* moving to an iPhone.
for the record, what carrier are you using? not all carriers even support wi-fi calling

Ah I figured that may be the reason, just wasn't sure. I use 2Degrees here in New Zealand, and they've just rolled out WiFi calling so I thought I could use it. Oh well :crying: but from the looks of it, I guess my software and/or security is outdated on my phone as well...Not really looking to buy another phone in this country as I'll be moving back to the states at the end of the year.
Decided to go to Canada for the weekend. Seems I randomly lose service, and need to reboot to get a signal again. Everything under Phone Info appears fine, and says I'm not roaming. Anyone else had this issue?
I'm in Verizon in Washington state and my phone has started doing the same thing today. Happed 5 or 6 times today while using YouTube, YouTube TV, Amazon app, and chrome. I was using 1.1.1.1 DNS will change that to see if it makes a difference. Has your problem continued?

I've had the same issues periodically. swapping sim slots has worked for me. give it a shot.
So it turns out my VZW plan was so old, it wasn't giving me the option to roam on other networks (travel pass).
I recently went to Germany and had the issue of having service, but sometimes no data. There's an option that sometimes appears when roaming called Network Operators under Settings > Wi-Fi & internet > Sim & Network > SIM 1 (or SIM 2) that'll manually let you choose which network to connect to. I'm my case my phone automatically connected to "o2 -de" network, and I had to manually choose "telekom.de" network to get calls and data. Unfortunately, I didn't take screenshots while abroad, but this is what it looks like at home...
