[Q] ICS Screen Autorotate not working

The Official OTA 4.0.3 ICS update broke auto rotation. The rest of the thing is running smooth as butter, but no auto rotation and the switch isn't doing anything.
Anyone know of a fix to this? I had this prob with the leak but after rooting and reinstall leak from scratch it cured itself. This one isn't doing that.
Is there an app to set the orientation of the screen manually that i can use in the interim??

So far, thank you networkdawg for your app suggestion for manually rotating the screen, however that is a paid for app with a few too many options for my need. I'm currently using Mantano Reader Free to rotate my screen.

Before i accidentally upgraded to the ICS leak, i had my old HC bootloader and was running Lightspeed flawlessly.
Does anyone know of a way to downgrade the bootloader back to HC so i can run a custom bootloader?

a custom bootloader for ICS?

Ok so in the end i used jazzyjames' tutorial and blasted HC + HC Bootloader back onto my tab (accelerometer now working once more), rooted, ran Acer Recovery Installer and loaded Light Speed ICS once more.
Everything is working swimmingly. No issues and i got ICS running like a champ.
When the hardworking devs in the dev section have streamlined the ICS bootloader unlocker and installing of a custom recovery a little further, i may try the ICS bootloader once more. But for now, to just have a functional tab, im sticking with the old stuff a little longer.
Thanks Civato, Blackthund3r and jazzyjames for their excellent tools and tutorials. I could not have done it without their help.

Update May 08 2012
Did something new, reverted back to stock 3.2.1 (the Gen 2 that was used in Jazzy's revert tutorial), did an OTA upgrade to ICS Official. On first run everything worked.
The minute i rebooted, the accelerometer stopped working.
Followed Civato's tutorial down to the letter, got the custom ICS bootloader working with recovery. Ran like a charm.
Installed a custom ROM (Lightspeed), accelerometer was still not working.
MY TAKEAWAY ---- The accelerometer issues is not a problem with ICS itself, but related to the new chipset firmware and bootloader included with the ICS update. I could be wrong here.
Anyone have any other insights into this?
Back to HC bootloader once more (accelerometer working again) no dice with ICS bootloader :S

I'm not aware of any apps that will switch orientations, only lock it.
Have you tried switching the lock to off then rebooting to see if that resets it?
I have noticed the orientation check isn't as sensitive as it used to be so sometimes I have to wait a few extra seconds or orient the tablet a little more [than usual] to get it to switch over. But it does work.

I have the rotation problem also. As a workaround, I installed this and it works great, although manually.

I have the same issue. I have a couple apps that are orientation locked and I can use them to rotate but it's very annoying. Hope this gets fixed soon

Been factory resetting this thing all night, no beans at all.

With the 4.0.3 leak, after one reset it worked for me, but i never got it to repeat again. So don't go factory resetting your tab in a hurry if you know whats good for you, especially if your rotation is working.

Good app, lots of options, but for what i want, this app is too much and it puts an icon next to the clock for quick access, but you cant preset the orientations there. There are only three, locked, auto and whatever you have it in now.
To get to the other options, tap the notification and it brings up a menu with all the other orientations (over 10 of them) its too much for me. But its an extremely powerful app.
Not worth the money as a workaround to a stupid accelerometer.

Encountered the same issue. I was in Portrait mode, playing Draw Something, and suddenly it just rebooted and went into Landscape mode. After a factory reset, it is not fixed. Not sure where to go, but this is highly disappointing for a tablet I paid close to $500 for...

Try wipe cache, it works for me. All said methods in the forum doesn't work for my tablet though.

What cache?
Do you mean Pwr Button + Volume Up while toggling screen lock switch?
Or is it something else?

On some a500 that were rooted and accepted the ics ota, a few things got broken during the upgrade. Flash a stock rooted ice rom, but before you do go into recovery and and select backup an restore,click on toggle backup of internal storage. Then you should see enabled on the screen. Then do full reset in mounts and storage plus your normal wipe. This will fully format everything on your tab but sd . When you reflash the new ics rom everything should work fine.

variations on problem for different versions
More pieces to the puzzle.
I just downloaded and installed Acer_AV041_A500_1.041.00_WW_CUS1 (very close to stock OTA, but rooted) from XDA and applied it over the stock OTA I had received from Acer directly, Acer_AV041_A500_RV05RC01_PA_CUS1.
Under Acer_AV041_A500_1.041.00_WW_CUS1 screen rotation (and the error 26's) would not clear. I could not get the rotation to work at all, even with multiple reboots, and hard (pinhole) resets.
I restored to Acer_AV041_A500_RV05RC01_PA_CUS1 and rotation is back to it's unstable self, but at least a pinhole reset will clear it.

[Q] Strange problems with rooted and not rooted i9505

This is actualy a dual question because I don't know if the two are related. But one problem came up after solving the other.
My wife and I both have a Galaxy S4 i9505. We are Dutch and on the Vodafone network I rooted mine but hers is untouched. Recently after the update I began to experience a bootloop. I thought it was related to the rooting. Keep in mind I didn't flash another rom. Just rooted my S4. The flashing comes maybe later. :silly:
So I did a complete factory reset and much to my surprise I found out in Samsung KIES that the use of my internal memory decreased very much. After reset and new install of all my apps ( and placed them as much as I could on the sd card as before) I had a total use of 1.68 GB from the 9 I got. Before the update I used almost 6 GB of 9 GB
The bootloop however was stopped. And everything works fine. Except acalendar but to that point I will come later on.
Recently my wifes S4 started bootlooping. She also had the update a while ago. Ther only option I could think of was a factory reset. I went on doing that and again all works fine. Exept...... acalendar offcourse
So my questions are:
Has anyone experienced the bootloop after the update?
And could the update causing acalendar to stop functioning.
The problem with acalendar is that the 4x4 widget won't stick to the homescreen. I tried everything but whatever I do, if I hit OK or the return button the screen comes up empty and no widget. The app itsel;f works and the app icon will attach to the homescreen. But I don't want the app icon I want the widget.
can anyone help plz. I allready posted a question on the developers website but so far no comment.

Just got a reply from the developers. Ok time off I can imagine... but 1 1/2 month vacation???? And ALL of there developers on vacation? Ths makes the app less appealing

Do you have acalendar installed on your sd? Because then that will probably cause those problems.
If so, then I think that also caused the bootloops.

Mine was installed on the SD card.. My wifes was not..... still bootloop

Do you use an app or script for moving your apps to the SD? I still think that moving the apps to the SD is causing the bootloops. Based on your information, that is my conclusion. Maybe it was not caused by Acalendar but some other app.
For the problem with Acalendar you should stay in contact with the developers and hope they will fix it. Or you can try to flash a custom rom and hope it will work on those roms.

the S4 came with the option to move apps to the sd card after the update. So no external script used. I fixed my problem with aCalendar. I made a backup in Samsung Kies so I reverted aCalender back to my S4 and that worked. But my wife doensn't have the backup. Tomorrow I will try though toput aCalendar back using my own backup. Still finding it strange though...

Samsung Galaxy S4 Lollipop Problem

Hi,
Yesterday i have updated my Samsung Galaxy S4 i9400 to Lollipop 5.0 from KitKat. But since then m facing too many problems which were not before:
1. The phone is getting overheated and the battery drains too fast.
2. The Home Screen background wallpaper disappears on its own and then even after applying it, it does not appears.
3. M not able to chcnge the folder icon.
4. The phone blinks around 10 times in a minute.
5. Keyboard disappear when we are in middle of typing a text. This happens mostly when using WhatsApp.
6. Touchwiz UI crashes too very frequently.
7. Not able to change the icon size
8. Knox app is not opening.
There are many issues. I have not rooted my phone and using stock Android. Please suggest some solution for this.

u mean the 9500 right? you made factory reset after flashing?

Hi I just followed normal process.. The phone is not rooted. I received an update and i updated it. the update was of around 998MB.
n Yes its i9500. I had not done any factory reset.

But that will remove the Lollipop right? I will make sure to backup everything. but will i need to re-update my phone? Cant i downgrade it to Kitkat again without rooting?

The factory should not remove the OTA update, but it will wipe your internal storage plus all your installed apps. So you definitely want to back up everything before you go any further. And even if it does wipe the OTA update, you simply download it again and then let it take. You won't have to do the wipe again since you already did it.
Once you upgrade the bootloader to Android 5.0.1 you won't be able to easily revert to Android 4.4.x, if at all.

I am facing the same problem. i did a factory reset after updating.

I am facing exactly as your problem. I hope there's a solution to this except flashing back to kitkat.

When my s4 was on kitkat, if i received a message but i take the mobile after a few seconds (when the screen turns off), it would vibrate and the screen will light up automatically
But after the lollipop update when i move my mobile , it will only vibrate, but the screen will not light up. Can anyone tell me how to enable it to light on automatically again.

The overheating issue is well known with Android Lollipop update across devices.
No factory reset can solve that issue.
I have moved out of the official Samsung ROM and am running Exodus 5.1.1 custom ROM without external memory card.
Heat is manageable. However, I feel the best ROM for Galaxy S4 was KitKat 4.4.2.
In that case you can even try using Aurora ROM for S4.

New EU firmware! (EU1.1.124b)

So, it just popped up while my phone was idle, without anyone calling it in here first, YotaPhone finally decided to give us EU users the RU124 firmware! It looks from the changelog to be the exact EU equivalent to its RU counterpart, including YotaTravel, the return of the YotaStore and other stuff. It's been so long that I don't even remember, but I should be fine flashing this and then reflashing SuperSU and Xposed without losing anything, correct?

If you have stock recovery it will install fine. If not you should be able to grab the update zip from /cache and side load. Then reflash what you want.

Yep I'm still on the stock recovery (I just boot TWRP every time I need it). Gotcha, then I'm just dumping my Titanium Backup folder onto my PC as a precaution, and then I'll update and report back on SU\Xposed.

Looks like whatever Yota pushed at 117MB was the wrong thing - a failed update attempt and a reboot later, it's now 0.94 GB. Seems like it's the correct size in ftp://fw.ydevices.com/YotaPhone2/Firmwares/EU/ so now it should work.

Just as expected the 0.94 GB update file worked, I reflashed SuperSU and Xposed and the phone is working great on 1.124b.

What version were you coming from?

EU1.87. I wanted to go to the RU version but never could get a KitKat RU firmware to boot on my device, so I just gave up and went back to the latest EU firmware.

Seems there's a bug.
Almost each time i try to unlock phone (with power button) from EDP the pin keyboard isn't showing up, i must tap all over the EDP screen, way it's relocking then i can have the keyboard again.

Instagram restricted access to its API, so none of 3rd party apps now work properly. Thats why Instagram Cover was removed.

I deployed this great update a few days ago, and it clearly brings numerous improvements and fixes.
One visibly new bug annoys me a lot anyway, and that's why I am posting :
When I type a SMS on the EPD, lots of freezes occur. And today, I found a simple pattern. I type a word, and then I back-delete one or a few letters of it. Then I add new letters, and that frequently freezes the EPD for a long moment.
It's not 100%, lots of times it freezes under these conditions, few other times it does not.
I setup 3 languages to choose from (thanks to the update !) and the auto correction is ON.
Does someone else experience the same issue ? Any workaround or fix ?

Appens to me 2 times, each time i needed to look/unlook the edp screen to solve

My problem is that with the latest update I need to restart my phone until it starts charging. Otherwise it will not charge ... does this happen to anybody else? Probably I should try to reset ...

No charge bug here neither. Quite the opposite in fact, I would even say that autonomy obviously improved since this update.
And I confirm I have the same bug with the PIN keyboard not showing up on the EPD when using the Powa button. It happens very often after using the other screen, but unlocking by tapping twice is an easy and efficient workaround.
Surprising obvious bugs anyway, I hope the Yotagods watch us and intend to fix them.

[ROM] New official ROM Global V8.5.4.0.MAGMIED released

I just received a new OTA update on official Global ROM. New version is V8.5.4.0.MAGMIED.
Release notes only state one entry.

I've got the update now since around 1 hour and everthing is still working. I believe, but maybe that's because of the reboot, that the finger print sensor is a bit faster now. The update fixes various security issues, but based on the date in the About Phone, the WPA2 issue isn't yet fixed.

I updated my girlfriend's phone. The fingerprint sensor is MUCH faster. Previously it failed a lot of times, too. The one issue she encountered was, that there were a lot of ghost touches, but after restart, they were gone and came back one more time. Will report if this repeats.

8.5.4.0 is really outdated now. It still have Marshmallow base.

It's not outdated, on the contrary. It's a very stable and good system now.
Which features of the newer Androids do you miss?

For me is the same software. Same bugs, i don't know what is change. Maybe the new interface when open a system app

I love Xiaomi philosophy, but the Mi 5s was updated 3 times in one year. I dislike this situation, because I already have Android MM and i can't istall or use some apps. It's not a huge problem, but now there is Android Oreo and I have Marshmallow, with Miui 8, because Miui 9 isn't ready. There are some bugs, and a lot of things that Miui don't fix and i don't understand why. I'm very sad for that, and the only thing that I appreciate is the new security patch, but Miui is too slow with development, for me

But that's a little bit how all the companies do, no? My experiences with HTC, Motorola and now Xiaomi are all similar - in the end, the custom roms were always the best, strangely also in terms of stability, but mostly in terms of safety (security patches). It is kind of a ****ty situation but it's well in line with our economic system, I'd say...

Yes, it's real. My experience is with a Nexus 5, so I was in a perfect situation and now i can't appreciate no one smartphone without pure Android

does anyone else have more problems after the update?
I really regret updating!
Now I have problems with Bluetooth - keep disconnecting or having interference. My multimedia system in car gone crazy. stops playing music, lost wheel buttons commands.
Even with apps that rely on Wifi I have problems I didn't have before.
GPS isn't connecting automatically after I turn it off, until I reboot the device

No problems here, but I clean flashed it via Fastboot. Try to wipe cache/dalvik or factory reset. I need my opinion clean flashing is not a big problem because setting everything up again is quite fast thanks to the build in backup.
Edit: I clean flashed the 8.5.3.0 then updated immediately via OTA. Got that mixed up.

wiping cache is totally safe here is a short manual (DONT delete user data or anything else):
1. Switch off your phone.
2. Power on your phone while pressing Volume up button + power button
3. A menu appears on the screen. choose Mi Recovery option.
4. choose your language.(select via volume +/- buttons,and choose via Power button)
5. Now choose Wipe and Reset option.
6. Now choose Clear Wipe cache data option.
7. All Set, done. Reboot your Phone.

Connect with MiAssist
When I choose Wipe Data, The only option on the next menu is Wipe All Data
which doesn't sound so good....
It shows me that it's version 3.0 of Mi-Recovery

Hmm okay. Maybe someone else can help you. I come from motorola and at the moment with my mi5s im using twrp recovery. You can also clear the cache from inside miui. In my experience clearing the cache never fixed such big system problems. Factory reset is always the way to go imo even if it's quite annoying.
