Video Camera Lowlight with pro settings - Galaxy S6 Edge+ Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

i've had time to play with the pro settings for this camera, since i've been shooting a lot of behind the scene footage for our film, with this phone. I've noticed that the manual settings doesn't stick when you start recording video. This usually happens in dark scenarios. Does the low light feature not apply to the video recording?

I think its for photos only.

Camera <-> Camcorder Zoom Weirdness

Going to try to explain this... When I'm using the stock Camera app, the picture is normal. But when I switch to Camcorder, it seems to be automatically zoomed in quite a bit. And when I try to zoom out, it says that since I'm recording in HD, zoom functions are not available.
This is kind of annoying because now I have to step back probably 5 feet to fill the same frame of when I was taking photos.
Is this normal for everyone else too? Or do I have some weird glitch on my unrooted and pure stock ROM?
Yep, mine does it too (stock rom). It only does that in FullHD resolution. I guess the only use middle part of the sensor to read the data to achieve greater speeds, and thus it's gonna be a hardware limitation.
Who need HD anyway ? The lens hardly catch with it. I record 720x480 and I'm very pleased with teh quality.
Change the video recording resolution in the settings pane to 1280x720 and that should fix your problem.

Yeah I noticed that.
But that doesn't make sense. In photo mode, same resolution as video mode but in video mode it's zoomed in. Like Dr. Sid said, it seems that it uses a smaller section of the image sensor to capture video. Which again doesn't make sense. Weird.
This is definetly a speed optimization - scaling down the whole resolution of camera sensor from 3264*2448 -> 1080p is much more expensive operation than just cropping the central pixels, i assume someone at samsung was VERY lazy to have done the camcorder mode in such a lame way, it's still ok for recording outside scenes but useless for in-room recording.
I find this quite annoying also. At first I was wondering if it is a ROM glitch or something, since some of the people here stated that even in stock ROM it is present also.
I hope there is some kind of patch to this, full HD recording is really awesome and I hate to see the 'zoomed' effect.
Yeah noticed the same thing just last night.. Seems to also affect the camera's ability to focus properly in video capture mode as well... Shame on them, I wish I had noticed this sooner.

Should anti shake be ON everytime?

Does anti shake affect photo quality?
Also want to know about video stabilisation if it affects video quality or not...
Thanks
Anti Shake allows users to shoot images at slow shutter speeds, without causing blurring when shooting hand held. It helps the image to be sharp.
&
Video Stabilisation helps reduce camera shake which causes visible frame-to-frame jitter in the recorded video. The video quality remains unaffected.

60fps video recording

In the default camera app when I try to record 60fps at the 1080 I see pink tint in the video recorder but when I use Google camera there is no pink tint, but I don't get 60fps recording option also.
Can anyone suggest me alternative camera app that can do 60fps video recording at 1080 p?
The pink tint occurs on low light and when too close to the subject, using 60fps. If you switch to 30fps this bug is gone, or if you don't get too close to the subject or too low light. Simple as that.
(the bug actually is the infrared not switching off, but Lenovo doesn't want to fix it)
I tired open camera for 60fps recording , but for some reason it says 60 fps not supported on this device
also the recording is grainy and upon zooming its too pixelated

Cant see that myself, if that was the case it would be visible on all settings and plus infrared on the Moto g5 Plus shows as white/purple (fire a TV remote at the camera to see for yourself).
My guess is it is caused by the extra voltage needed by the CCD at high ISO.

If you haven't seen the existing running discussion on the red/pink issue when recording at 1080/60fps then you may want see the following link:

Is this camera issue on all Zforce1 or just mine? 4krecording 3rdparty apps, WB

I have a Moto Z Droid Force. I have tested almost all of the 3rd party video recording apps that do 4k recording...................all of them have this white balance issue...read below
Problem: (crazy bad white balance, harsh orange skintones) When using 3rd party video recording apps while recording 4k (4k only), and scenes lit by indoor lighting like flourescent or led lighting........there is an orange cast, and especially skin tones are all orange. Try recording, say your hand, while turning indoor lights on and off..... crazy harsh orange skintones when indoor lighting is on.
So all of these conditions together, and there is a white balance problem, especially skin tones.,.
1) 3rd party app video recording app
2) 4k mode only, 3840x2160 setting.
3) while lights on , like flourescent or led
You can download free versions of 4k apps in the app store like Cinema4k, Open Camera., CinemaFV-5 Lumio Camera , (paid) Filmic_pro, etc. You need to set the 4k setting of 3840x2160.
On Moto Z Force Droid. 20MP sensor. The stock recording app is not very good IMO for photos and video, But some 3rd party apps are wonderful.
Anyone else notice this issue on your Moto Z force?

What camera app for video recording

Oneplus 6t has bad camera app for photos but for recording movies it's even worse.
What app for recording videos do you use?
I'm looking for an app that will have manual options like: manual focus, 24fps, exposure lock, iso, flat video recording.
I have tried Opencamera but its so bugged. It cant record 24fps on our phone and the interface is uncomfortable.
I found HedgeCam 2. It's a fork of Opencamera. It has much better interface but it also has bugs from Opencamera (no 24fps).
Is there any working app?
I really like the gcam port, also for video recording. It's smoothness during zoom in/out is very good, almost as iphone.
