Converting US version to EU? - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

In Nexus 5 there is a possibility to activate EU bands on US version. Can we expect it would be possible on 6P too?

I'd like to know this too. If its possible to activate band 28 on the US version for use in Australia by flashing a different radio (Are all the required amps and antenna things there)
I need band 3, 7 & 28 for LTE

Might not be possible , could be a different version of the radio chip that they use for the other version. would be nice if its as easy as just flashing radios but tend to think it will be more hardware

I was hoping this was possible as well! If it was and one wanted to flash a different radio do you need to unlock the bootloader to do this?
Thanks,
M

Yes you need a bootloader unlock to flash radios

The development on 6P already started, any updates about that topic?

most of us are still getting our phones..give it a couple weeks

1) Anyone know if the radio-angler-angler-02.15.img contains ALL radios?
2) If I travel from US to Italy/Germany/Japan will flashing that Image get it done or will I need to do something else?

The US version of the Nexus will work in those countries except Japan without any extra work.

Am I right in thinking that if a specific band (i.e. 20, which isn't on the US version) isn't present the phone will simply use another band? Granted, this might not be LTE but still decent speeds.

Just check what radio frequency uses your carrier and check if it is available in the US model.
But if you buy it in the US, the price plus tax, plus shipping, plus tax in Europe, not worth it. Almost about the same price. Unless you have someone to bring it to you and you dont have to pay shipping nor europe tax.

[Q] Quick question regarding buying from the US

Hey guys. I finally decided that buying the Nexus 4 is my best bet. I also have a friend that would bring it to me when he comes to Europe. So my question is: Will I be able to use the US version normally here in Europe? I have a contract at a GSM provider, will there be any issues? What about the power socket?

I'm 99,9% sure you can. The Nexus phones are made to work on almost any carrier in the world.
To be 100% sure, just search in google your carrier 3G bands, like 900, 1200, etc. After that check to see if they match the Nexus 4 specifications.

It won't ever work with your Sprint SIM because the H815 model is GSM only - and Sprint is CDMA

The answer used to be Sprint is CDMA not GSM so you have the wrong phone if I am correct. Sorry. But now that they have LTE....
LTE is the same functionally (not bands though) among carriers. You may need to call Sprint and see if they have some sort of blocking enabled for that device.

I am about to order one from ebay (h815). I'm not sure if that will work with tmo since it's missing the aws 1700/2100 3g band. Isn't that a necessary band for mms?
Also looks like it's missing lte 12 but doesn't matter since Chicago hasn't been approved for that band anyway and it'll be a while before that happens.

What are the differences between the F500 and the H815? Here in Australia, the F500 is approximately $100 more expensive than the H815 on eBay. Of course, it hasn't been released yet and I believe that, when it is released, it will cost around $900. ( -_-)
In Australia, if you're with Telstra and want the new 4GX network, you need the 815 or 815T. You need one that has 700MHz(B28) band, and it seems both of them do have this. If you're with Optus, the 815 is missing an LTE band and you'd be best going for the 815T.

I'm with the crappiest company; Vodafone. I didn't even know there were so many models of the G4. Thanks for that!
I don't use 4G/LTE. There's dodgy coverage in Perth and its suburbs (even just general 2G/3G) and I'm usually in reach of wifi.
I hope someone can make a list of all the models to make it easier to find the international model versus carrier models.

Ah, yeah. I saw that. Not a bad price but why is the leather-back version the same price as the plastic cover one?
Is the F500 the international variant or the H815? Which one do you think will get the fastest updates? I really want to switch from my Nexus 5. With Google's new Photos app coming later today, I'd love to take photos on the G4 and upload them.

They are all the same version, if you are referring to the gold version there is no way maybe eBay but it will be very expensive, which in my opinion is stupid just for a color.
Even if you do obtain one somehow, warranty service might be extremely painful.

No, , Huawei has made a version for North America which support overall some less LTE bands and has some 1 or 2 specific LTE bands for USA carriers.. Whereas international version support all the available LTE bands so that you can use any sim...

What LTE bands does Sprint HTC 10 have?

I can't find any definitive answers on this. All I know is the minimum is 25, 26 and 41 but it'd be nice to know the full list. I travel internationally and without other LTE bands like band 7, it makes it tough to use it anywhere outside the US.
EDIT: Someone answered this question in another thread but it would be good to get screenshots to verify this.

This list of bands is a little better than both the Sprint variants of the LG G5 and Samsung Galaxy S7. If this phone can be unlocked, you at least have a way to go abroad and use LTE connections in much of Europe and elsewhere. Band 7 is the most common band in the world from what I understand.
I'm curious about this comment about GSM and WCDMA. Hopefully someone can verify this one way or another.

If you plan to travel outside the US during most of this time, your best options are to sell your HTC 10 and get one of the few unlocked flagship phones on Sprint's networks, assuming you want to stay with Sprint.
Here are your options:
Google Pixel
Samsung Galaxy S7 SM-930U
Samsung Galaxy S7 SM-935U
Nexus 6P or 5X
Motorola X Pure Edition
Apple iPhone
Here's a full list as of February 2017 of radio unlocked phones compatible with Sprint.
There are other unlocked phones that are not compatible with Sprint because CDMA and LTE bands are crippled or missing.

Thanks for the response. The thing is I'm not on Sprint and have no desire to be. I won't be in the states long. I bought the phone thinking that like most, it could be unlocked and used as needed wherever I travel to. I knew it wasn't unlocked but figured I could do it myself. Well, I've tried a number of times, and keep having an issue with the radio. Can you explain what you mean by bands being crippled? What I'm trying to find out now is whether it's possible for me to get this HTC10 completely unlocked. I think I've done everything right but maybe not. I'm kinda desperate at this point. I love this phone. And if I have to I'll return it and grab another that can be unlocked but I just have a hard time believing that the phone can't be unlocked. It's a strange concept for me. Any help or info would be appreciated.

First, go go Google and look up what LTE bands are.
Crippled LTE bands = the hardware inside the phone will not allow certain LTE bands to work unless physically altered. It doesn't matter which ROM you install, you will not unlock all the LTE bands without physical alteration. https://www.quora.com/Does-installing-different-rom-change-LTE-band-frequency
So no, HTC 10 will never be completely unlocked. Look at the list above and buy one of those phones if you want a completely unlocked phone.

I'm not sure I fully understand. Yes, I know that different chips have different bands that they work with. So, what you're saying is the Sprint HTC10 variant uses either a different chip or has some sort of other hardware configuration that is incompatible with GSM and the wider LTE bands and that no matter what I do with this phone I'll never have a truly unlocked phone? That's what I have understood, so my best option is to send it back. Ok, I get that. But I have read across tons of forums and threads of people who unlocked their Sprint 10s and are able to use them on other non-cdma carriers. So, how does that work? Are all the Sprint 10s the same or are some more limited than others? Are you essentially saying that i would have to get an unlocked/dev edition of the htc10 to be able to use GSM in other countries?
Sorry if i'm asking stupid questions here, I'm just trying to fully understand this. Thanks again for helping me out on this.
If anyone reading this knows better, please feel free to correct me.
This is my understanding of LTE bands and CDMA/GSM radios.
Phones like HTC 10, which are locked, include hardware that are built for specific usages. Prior to HTC 10, HTC phones built for Sprint's CDMA radio were specifically built to lock out GSM radio signals and most other LTE bands using the hardware. This means you'd have to open the physical device and modify the wiring inside the phone in order to allow other signals to work.
As of HTC 10, the locks are supposedly now just software based but I haven't seen proof of that. What this essentially means is that you should be able to unlock the bootloader and flash new Roms that could allow the GSM radio to work universally. However, lots of people are having issues with it. Here's one story of someone who was mostly successful but still had issues:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=68960210&postcount=47
Read through the thread above and you'll see a lot of people having issues trying to fully unlock the radios and LTE bands for this phone.
If you ultimately don't want to be on Sprint anyway, I think you really should consider getting something already unlocked that can universally work anywhere. And lots of interesting non-Sprint compatible phones like OnePlus 3t (among the others on the lists I provided) are already unlocked and have a lot of good capabilities and would work great anywhere. The Pixel is one of the best devices out there and the camera is amazing from what most people say.
So I think your options are limited and I'd highly suggest you consider getting a Pixel or something else already unlocked.

From my testing, the unlocked version will pick up Verizon LTE bands but calls fail since there is no VoLTE option on the phone. Did not pick up any of their 3G signals, and their system would not accept my IMEI as a compatible device. So it may work if you can convince Verizon to add the phone to their system, which is unlikely since they already have their own version.
FWIW I also tried it with a Sprint SIM, but got no service whatsoever and their system would not accept the IMEI. Thew in a Cricket/AT&T SIM and the phone worked as expected.

I'm on T-Mobile,seems we only have Band 2 support on the WW unlocked 8GB/128 GB Model.

I was able to get service on 4 and 13 for Verizon, and 2 and 12 for Cricket/AT&T. It may support more, but I'm not aware of any apps that will let me scan for service on all bands. LTE Discovery mentioned a "Potential eCSFB issue" with the Verizon SIM which is likely because there was no CDMA support.
Fun fact... apparently the phone supports XLTE with Verizon, which led to a rather depressing speed test compared to my service with Cricket.

THX!,just wanted to make sure we were talking about the same model phone.
I'm gonna give it one more day,get around town & see if the connectivity is OK.
If spotty (w/Band 2 only) ,I'm sending it back,or,selling it on Swappa.
Outside of sparse LTE Band support,it's a nice phone,I really don't wanna part w/it so soon after getting it.
Haven't tried out the AR/VR Capabilities yet, but,I do like the display & the speaker quality/loudness.
TBH,I'm covered in WI-FI Most of the time, but,I did expect better LTE Band support nevertheless, especially for a DualSIM/Unlocked phone.
The fact that it's being sold on Amazon as-is seems to be Asus shooting themselves in the foot, certainly there'll be quite a few returns, once people find out connectivity is less than ideal for an unlocked phone, one that is marketed to the US/North America.
Update on mine, battery life is getting better now as the phone settles in. NOT impressed with Data though. I was in the country yesterday, my ASUS Zenpad had 2 bars of 4G and the Zenfone was in roam. Everything else is great, and living without root is bearable, I guess. Fortunately, my 7 year high score on Klondike is an X-Box Live/Google Play game and the score were carried over from the X Box cloud. I know that sounds silly but 7 years over multiple devices is a long time to build up a high score and was a major stress point going to a locked down device
