I am stuck in a decision to make which is a better device to get right now?
The S4.

Coming from a note 2 the s4

S4 users will say the S4, Note 2 users will say the Note 2 - there's a massive debate going on about it in the Note 2 forum..
I had a note 2, and had to change it because I was sold it as a 4G phone but it wasn't, and they agreed after a lot of argument to swap it, and the only available phone which was similar in specs was the S4.
I haven't looked back, however I did like the big screen for watching movies!
Aside from that, I can't flaw the S4!! Really love it
The Note 2 camera is a little faster at taking images (action shots of my little boy running would be literally blur free) whereas the S4 is still a bit blurry if he's moving (but amazing if he's still!!), however I'm sure that will be corrected as the software is updated!
It's really your choice, size and S Pen - go for a note 2, if they're not that important, S4 all the way
Depends on your needs really. The note will have a significantly bigger battery and bigger screen, the s4 will give a smaller but better screen and more than enough battery to get you through the day.
I've come from a note 2 to the s4 as I found the note 2 a bit too big at times, but I love the s4.
I'd say go check both out in a store so you can decide what's best for you:thumbup:

How is the battery life on the s4, how much better is the screen?

Same with me really, note was a good phone and the battery life was epic in days of huge screens etc....but with a case on that offered the protection I needed, it was just too big.
The s3 was a little too small so the s4 was the middle ground with the 5" screen. I was tempted by the Xperia Z but their skin over android I don't like.
Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk (how ironic is that eh)
S4 for sure now, I'm not anti Note though because if you'd said Note3 I'd have voted Note.
i was torn with this decision,
i chose the S4 because the .5" inch+ form factor is a bit hard to use with one hand but i tested the S4 (though not as best for 1 hand as others) but still it works out pretty decent for 1 hand operations, also faster processor.
Okay. everything depends on what you use it for. To put things in perspective - I own a Note II, won't switch for anything smaller as I'd miss out on the screen real estate + the amazing battery life like none other. S Pen is an added bonus for me, although I love it - it isn't really a dealbreaker as the former two for me. So what's "better" is highly subjective.
As for screen, I've played with an S4, and the only difference "I" (emphasis on the I, since it's my view) see with the screen is marginally sharper screen while browsing. I find N2 better for watching movies etc. since it has more screen real estate.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2252896 read the thread to know the perspective of N2 users and make your mind up, won't go wrong either way
S4 for sure.. it has much much much more powerful processor, gpu and ddr3 ram and stunning full hd display. 13MP camera and it has gorilla glass 3. If you need a stylus badly then go with Note 2 otherwise S4 is a beast in every way. You should check out the full hd display first before you decide.
Or you just use something else for a stylus, like... The eraser end of a pencil. Or whatever is handy. Since it has the same high sensitivity that the 920 has.

I have them both and since buying the s4 the note 2 is lonely. However I still take it with me when I travel. I miss the big screen and the battery.

S4!
have Note 2 and have tested S4. will sell Note 2 tomorrow and get S4
The s4 ist not full hd. It has only 2 subpixel and therefore the resolution is only 2/3 of full hd. The advantage is the size and GPU
Gesendet von meinem GT-N7100 mit Tapatalk 2
I'm also debating with myself if I should change my current Note 2 to a S4.
Pros for changing :
Better screen resolution
Better processor theoretically but it certainly seems similar to that of a Note 2 practically. In fact, Note 2 doesn't suffer from all the stuttering.
Easier one hand operation
Cons for changing:
Bigger screen
Bigger battery
S-pen (I really only use the S-pen screen capture function mostly though)
All of the above at a cost / top up price of $300 to move from a Note 2 to a S4.
This doesn't seem like a logical decision......
Coming from another phone: S4
Coming from Note 2: depends on your money
I've just ditched my SGN2 for the S4 and won't look back. I've got big hands but the size of it was getting on my nerves and I just didn't have that feeling that wanted to get it out all the time. Loving the S4 :cyclops:
Kevin: spen really isn't an issue as described above.
Stuttering is also basically gone since last update plus setting animations to 0.5 for me.
Sent from my GT-I9505 using xda app-developers app
At this point? The GS4 is the way to go, why?
-Newer CPU/GPU, A15 Cortex
-HD1080P 440PPI display, its STUNNING!!
-Newer and more Sensors
-Better one handed use
-4.2.2 out-the-box
-IR Blaster
-Newer and far better Camera
The Note2 is a great device, don't get me wrong but if you're getting a new phone now let it be a new gen based phone, it will be great for the next 2years.
Hi all... I'm a long-time lurker, first-time poster. I want to thank you for all your help and analysis in smartphones.
I had a Galaxy S 4 for so long, and I'm stuck with the tough decision of choosing between a Note 3 or waiting a few more weeks for the SV.
I consider myself a power user, and I think the stylus is really cool. Do the new perks of the SV outweigh the features of the Note 3?
I'm a business professional, so the Note 3 does have that appeal--but I'm concerned that many people don't end up even using the stylus.
Your thoughts are appreciated. PS, I'm sorry if I've posted this in the wrong forum.
Shoot... I just read Jonny's sticky about questions... sorry mods. Please move this to the Q&A forum.

I just came from getting my Note 3, I sold my Xperia Z1 to get this, I like this phone, looks cool, and is fluid but I need to root and put a custom rom, I hate the bloatware, also I want a few tweeks, the phone its great, for me it just need a few tweek, S5 is nothing from other world, I think that some guys here will port some stuff from S5 to Note3, so i will say go for the Note 3, its almost the same, note 3 has 3GBs of ram instead of 2.

Believe me when I say that Snapdragon 800 is enough, and 801 is just a variant with a few tweeks.
The USB 3.0 it is great, the phone charges faster and the baterry is great same as Z1.
And im not an artist and my handwriting sucks but I use it a few times, also the apps for the pen are cool, this is my first day with the note, the only thing I hate is knox, i want to root so bad.

Note 3. I've owned it for almost 5 months now.
Although I don't use the stylus a lot, the phone itself is very fluid. The only downside I see is its camera in low light conditions. I'm quite sure the S5 wont be that much of an improvement even though they say its heaps and bounds better than the s4, with how samsung does its business recently, I'm skeptical.
So yeah, 3 GB > 2 GB. Fingerprint scanner? Heartrate scanner? Slightly better camera. Nah, the functionalities of the stylus still is more beneficial than those things.
Also 33% increase in price for the S5 than note 3 doesnt appeal to me
I had the same dilemma,
I took Note 3 and I'm glad, perfect device for everyday office work, watching movies, for social networks etc.
updated my N3 to KitKat and need to say, that battery life on 4.3 was better but it might be my impression only,
but anyway: very good device,
The S5 is a lesser device compared to the Note 3.
It has less RAM, smaller screen, no Spen... The only thing it has is a fingerprint scanner and 3MP more in the camera.
As for the heartrate scanner, this one works on the Note 3 and the results match my pulse meter: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.runtastic.android.heartrate.lite
I wouldn't even consider the S5.
S5 is basically a smaller Note 3 with a slightly improved camera sensor and less ram. So size is really the biggest practical difference, since I don't think you'll have problems with 2GB ram.

Note 3 is cheaper. And better. Did I mention that it's cheaper? And better? I don't think I said that it's cheaper and better yet.
Go for a note 3 I'd say. The s5 is really lackluster when it comes to features. The note 3 is the only phone next to the note 2 I've owned that allows me to not use my pc so much. It's an all in one media device that just works.
Sent from my SM-N9005 beast of a phone.
Just close your eyes and buy note 3. I can guarantee you that you will have happy face. Also for the reasons you have mentioned, note series is for you. Stylus is really functional for those who know how it works
Once you move to note series, you probably won't ever go back to S series. Just one advice is that try to find on a cheaper price as you might have to move to note 4 later this year
The specs are better, and so is the price. The n9005 wins easily

Note 3 pros:
-3GB RAM
-Higher storage options
-S Pen
-Bigger screen
S5 pros:
-Water and dust resistance.
-Better camera (heaps ahead according to some camera shots)
-Heart rate sensor and a fingerprint sensor
-Better UI (although this might come with an update or get ported)
-Faster processor (not by much but faster)
-Smaller screen but with better PPI
So, it really depends, look at the benefits of both models carefully and get what suits you more.
I got a Note 3 because I'm sticking to the Note line from now, my upgrade will be the Note 4.
Right now i have note 3- it is great phone but why is from plastic. I was paid over 500 pounds. Now after few moths start scratching. I was hope the next s5 will be from premium material but isn't and I disappointed. My new phone will be xperia z2 or HTC ONE M8. This is just my opinion.

Because most metal bodies on phones cause problems. You can't replace the battery. They scratch and scuff way more than plastic. The money you paid was for what's inside, not what's outside.

I highly recommend the note 3 over any other phone. The s5 is the best phone of "normal " proportions (alongside the nexus 5) but you won't get a phone that compares to the note 3 until the note 4 surfaces.

Hi Guys,
Just wanted to know which one of the Note's you will desire to buy?
I personally like Note Edge. But what's up to you guys. Let's Discuss here.
Note edge for me.
Sent from Galaxy Note 3 (The beauty & beast)
Note edge is something special. So cute.
note edge is a gimmick without real use that will be dropped in upgrades faster than htc desire.
note 4 is not a worthy upgrade, so note 5 or maybe next curved LG if they finally do it right
As the owner of Samsung Galaxy Note 2 I will buy..... Note 3. No need to rush and buy Note 4 which will be very pricey. If we compare Note 3 with Note 4 we have the same battery, the same amount of RAM and internal storage. For those who are confused between Note 4 and Note Edge I would suggest Note 4.
I need to see more video on the note 4 and note edge to make a decision. I may just by the LG G3 and wait till next year note 5
I'm very curious about the note edge... but I'm kinda worried about the extra width of the device, the Note 3 is already pushing it for me being able to fit into my pocket... an extra 4mm of width might not work for me. I'm excited the note 4 is a bit less wide than the note 3, although a tiny bit thicker as that might be perfect for me.
I really like the idea of the edge though... I just wish it wasn't at the expense of form factor, heck I'd even compromise a slightly smaller main screen
the note 4 is 5.7 inches, and the note edge is 5.6, but you get some more pixels with the edge 2560x1600 vs 2560x1440.
I'd really like to see the devices side by side to really know if I'd want it.
If the note edge comes out later than the note 4, i probably won't be able to wait
I'm tempted to buy the Edge just so my iPhone co-workers can drool..but then again the Note 4 would be more practical for me. Oh and that metal frame is so so sexaaayy. Note 4 for me.

This resumed perfectly my feelings. The Note 4 does not seem worthy at all!! But the Note Edge as a "gimmick" might entertain me until the next best thing... I had a Note 2, then a Note 3 from Day 1 release, and I am sooo bored i need something new and innovative! I guess I will keep on waiting for the next AOSP device.
Note 4
Im really curious how the note edge performs in drop tests and scratches in the pocket without flip cover.
Also the notifications that are displayed in the edge works better for me because it wont interrupt me while im fighting in jungle heat and therefore ill not lose the battle.
Note 4 specs > note edge .. just for the specs I think I will go for the note 4 no matter how badly I want something different
Sent from my GT-I9300 using XDA Free mobile app
I have an Galaxy 3 and I am out of contract. Never had experience with Note series before! Would Note 4 be a good upgrade for me? I need 5.5" or above.
Of the two, the Note Edge has my greater interest. However, as a current HTC One owner, speaker quality is important and I don't believe either device step up to that mark.
Note 4 should have been called note 3s...not much innovation there.
Other than processor, camera and 64 GB int storage same thing.. Right down to the ugly leather look battery cover.
Same size screen and the device is wider and taller? Going backwards there.
Edge is much more interesting to me for sure.

Nor really better unless you want to play VR game.
The edge has that gimmick/innovation screen with a bit more pixel.
decision will be based on if I wanna show off or playing VR. [emoji8]
Note Edge uses plastic for the bezel according to videos online.
Edit: this may be rumor mongering...I saw MKBHDs video and he said metal also. Now im confused.

Just curious, I might trade in my S5 for a Note 4 around Christmas break when highschool finishes for me, yay.
I'm probably willing to only pay 100 to 150 extra + trade in for the device though.
What are you guys' reasons for moving to the Note 4 or not moving to the Note 4?
I honestly don't like the Samsung s series I've been a huge fan of note series.
Only phone I don't own was note 3 currently own note2 I am for sure upgrading to note 4 no doubt about it.
Reasons would be obvious currently I own note 2
It has got a better hardware
16mp OIS which I was looking forward for I wanted the Samsung guys to upgrade the can which they did this time I am happy I wanted a more better but satisfied with this .
Spen improved a lot multi tasking which I am a huge fan of on note series.
Apart from this its less gimiciky and more productive as compared to s5
Sent from my GT-N7100 using Tapatalk
I am moving from S5 to Note 4, bigger screen, better battery, hopefully better performance am not totally happy with my s5s performance.
I'm thinking of making the move as well, mostly for the OIS camera and larger screen. Hoping for a dual sim version though....
Definitely going back to Note series, never S again.
I went from note3 to the S5, felt like a downgrade, biggest mistake :/

The S5 (on paper at least) has a small edge in performance......though in real life, I doubt the difference would be noticeable. The note has a higher capacity battery which will obviously lengthen the uptime between charges.
The S5 will accept a higher capacity external memory card.....which would only be an issue if you used your phone as a movie player and wanted to store A LOT of movies (to put this into perspective, I have 20 full length movies, 200+ mp3s, 150+ ebooks and more pictures than I care to count stored on my card and it's only 32Mb)........
So what it comes down to is, device cost and screen size.......
Would YOU personally find a bigger screen size useful? (Bear in mind the overall size of the devices and how well they'll fit in your pocket)
Also, I expect that there will be a price difference......is that a factor?
For me personally, the S5 ticks all the 'physical' boxes.....and in terms of performance, it's like greased lightening compared to my previous device (S2).....
But that's me......what I want from my device will probably be different to what you want.......
But at least now, you have a little more info......

One question though, as far as development, which is more foregoing and is there a difference as to tougher security measures on each device?

With higher device versions comes a more tighter security. As far as development goes that I cannot answer as I don't have a note 3 and am also a newbie to samsung myself(first samsung device is s5)
But as far as specs go the note range has higher specs compared to it's galaxy counterpart and the note is always the best choice unless you really want a phone rather than a phablet. But note 3 is s4's counterpart so it should be within the "same level" on s5.
When I say the same level though that doesn't mean they have the same features and specs but instead the note has specs & features that exceeds the s5 while the s5 does have some of its own that exceeds the note.
Take for example...
S-Pen vs Fingerprint scanner
More Battery vs Efficient Snapdragon801
etc.
And lastly if you'd like to ask why I opted the s5... It's a personal thing... I came from a Sony device namely the Xperia Z1 Compact due to its size. So obviously I would pick the s5 over note 3 for obvious reasons that I prefer my phones on the small side but have bigger specs.
