Since we're not getting the update to Marshmallow, might as well make a root thread so we could potentially see it in the future.
I'll add $15 dollars to each model.
$ For Each
Verizon (XT1096):
Donations removed; official bootloader unlock provided by Motorola!
AT&T(XT1097):
$15 from SpeedsterPaul
$10 from josh8227
$30 from thencamedroid
Republic Wireless(XT1094):
U.S. Cellular:
$5 from KillerKellerjr
Total: $290
Republic Wireless XT1094 maybe
Is that also not getting updated/has a locked bootloader? I'll add it in.
I'm confused I thought you could already root both the Verizon and AT&T models after paying for an Unlock Code? Is this not true? If anything I heard the price went up. It used to be $20 then after Moto's bull**** announcement the price is now $45 for Sunshine Unlock or whatever.

If you have verizon or at&t with android 5.1 it can't be unlocked through any methods currently. If you have 5.0 or 4.4.4 sunshine does work.

Yes I figured this out from another thread on XDA. This is sad. I should have already unlocked and rooted long ago. Now I am boned. Official 5.1 on Verizon Moto X.
$20 for root on 5.1 xt1096 verizon
Count me in: 20$ Verizon (XT1096) from Azortje.
$25 for root on vzw 5.1

Also, it's nice to see this thread off to a good start! Hopefully some devs get on the project soon.

I'll go 40 dollars for the Verizon and 10 dollars for the AT&T.
You guys do realize that it does not matter if it's verizon, at&t, or whatever carrier. As long as root can be found for 5.1 that does not require bootloader unlock it will work for ALL variants. You don't need to seperate money for each variant.
Sent from my XT1095 using Tapatalk
I'm seperating them just in case there is some stange exploit with a Verizon or AT&T app.

Marshmallow or not, want (need) root on 5.1 base. I'm sure they will keep it just as locked down on 6.0 as it is right now.

Put down $30 for AT&T XT1097.

The Moto Maker customization is available now (11/11/13) on all major carriers (Sprint, At&t, Verizon and T-Mobile). I have searched Wirefly and they have it for $20 with a two-year contract but no Moto Maker option. Amazon has it for $50 but also no Moto Maker option. I will be ordering 2 for Sprint, with a new contract. If any one has found a cheaper alternative it would be highly appreciated.

You can only buy a customized Moto X via motomaker.com so it's highly unlikely you'll find a better price.

Your best option for a cheaper Moto X is going to be getting a used one on eBay/swappa/craigslist with the colors you like. You can get a used one for $300-$400.

When you go to Check Out through the Moto Maker website there's an option to enter a promo code. Though my Google searches have been fruitless, there may be a code available to get a discount of some kind. If you find one, I'd appreciate a post to let us know. I'll do the same.

Anyone know if I buy a moto x from moto maker without contract, is it already unlocked? I plan to get the tmobile version. Just wondering if the no contract one still has the t-mobile logo on it.

Yes it is unlocked and no tmobile logo. It's just an unlocked phone with all the necessary tmobile bands. It doesn't even have any tmobile bloatware, pure unlocked moto x.

THANKYOU10 code gives 10% off all orders through MotoMaker.
I'm one of the people getting "Not Applied" when using the code. I called Motorola and they assured me the code was only for accessories even though I told them multiple times people were purchasing phones with it. Apparently I'm just imagining things and this entire article and all of the comments below it are a figment of my imagination. Thanks for notifying me about my insanity, Motorola.

Ordered mine yesterday, and my wife's today, both with the 10% discount code. It dropped the 32Gb price to $135, plus a $10 Google Play credit, so not a bad deal at all. Too bad they're out of the car docks now...
Black Friday may yield better prices and you buy a code in the stores to use on Moto Maker.

I'd like to start another bounty thread. This time, the pot o' money goes to whomever successfully roots AND disables write protection on 4.4.2 for the MotoX locked bootloader variants.
Two ways we can do this--you can either go here to this Google Drive spreadsheet and add your XDA Username and amount pledged: LINK HERE
Alternatively, you can just comment with the amount you pledge in this thread. However, I ask that if you comment on this thread--that you don't add it to the spreadsheet. If you comment on this thread, I will manually add your information into the spreadsheet. No need for you to do both.
Don't feel obliged to pledge large amounts of money! Any amount is fine. $1? $5? $100? Doesn't matter! Something is better than nothing; your pledge is much appreciated by everyone who wishes to achieve root on our devices!:highfive:
If you pledge any amount--it is expected that you pay that amount. If this bounty is claimed, I'm sure a lot of work went into figuring out how to root our phones; therefore, it is only morally correct for you to hold your end of the bargain. Do not pledge an amount if you do not intend on paying it.
Current Bounty
$845
$15

$20 for Verizon
$10 (ATT)

You guys don't need to worry about what carrier. Typically, if there is an exploit for Verizon, then the same exploit exists on AT&T and vice versa.

TMO has the Nexus 6 both 32 and 64 for $100 off.
Would this be a normal Nexus 6 or like the AT&T one that would be locked?
I want to get this for Google Fi.
Sent from my XT1095 using Tapatalk
T-Mobile's Nexus 6 is totally unlocked, would be the same as buying from the Play Store except only T-mobile would have the IMEI (so theoretically you will not be able to get a new Verizon SIM as Verizon will not add non-Verizon IMEIs to their database).
So it would work on Fi?
I guess I should just wait as I would like to have one that I could use on any carrier

Yes it will work on Fi. There are only 2 versions of the Nexus, US and International. Any Nexus sold in the US supports the same bands and will work fully on any US carrier. The only differences you will see are carrier logos on the models bought from AT&T and Verizon.
So if i got it from t-mobile I should be fine.

I bought my nexus 6 from amazon in April. I emailed customer service and was able to get them to price match. At first they denied my request stating that Amazon doesn't price match. But if u are persistent they will refund u the difference.
T-Mobile bloatware
I would buy this to use with my StraightTalk SIM.
Do the T-Mobile versions (even full retail price) have the usual carrier drawbacks - T-Mo bloatware, long wait for firmware updates, etc - relative to the non-carrier version? I've used custom ROMS with other phones in the past, but would like to keep this stock if possible.
After having a chat with a CS rep, they said I have to return the phone, to reprocess the order, and re-buy a new phone to get the promotional $100 off..... smells fishy to me
On top of that there's the $50 restocking fee, so I'd only net $50 for what should simply be a $100 price adjustment/account credit. Should I try reaching out to T-Force? Why does life always have to be so hard? Do I have to be an asshole???
Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk
I purchased my Nexus 6 64GB from Amazon about 2 weeks ago for $734. I took me a few tries but I finally got through to the correct department for Cell Phone price match and got them to price match T-Mobile at $599. You just need to be persistent.
Unless dealing with tmobo themselves...as my situation.

From what T-Mobile said to me, we need to return the phone and re-ring the transaction to get the $100 promo price. And then we pay $50 restocking fee even though we are keeping our own phones..... If you find out otherwise krozu, lemme know.

$179.99 Alcatel OneTouch Idol 3 (6045I-2AALUS7) 5.5" Display, 16GB Unlocked GSM
http://www.staples.com/Alcatel-OneT...roid-Smartphone-Gunmetal-Gray/product_1985848
Walmart and Amazon can both have pricematch requests.
Staples coupons are usually easy to acquire but unsure if they apply to the phones.
This version is sim unlocked and with no contract as opposed to the cheaper cricket version (which I understand is going for $109 if you port in a number and are willing to sign a contract [for the phone, if you quit early you have to pay full price]. (cricket users if this info is inaccurate in any way please speak up).

It was mentioned on slickdeals.net however it's since been clarified that Cricket will not give you an unlock code for at least 6 months after purchase...additionally no one has successfully reported (on slickdeals) getting an unlock code from a 3rd party site to work on that phone with cricket as the provider.
