Hi. Im using an HTC One M8 Internation Version clocked at 2.5ghz
This thread is to know if current users of the M8 toggles the power saver ON by default or OFF and do not use it at all.
This thread aims to discuss what are the difference between the two especially the options within the power saver (conserve cpu usage, lower brightness, vibration feedback, and sleep mode)
But as for some using Greenify + Amplify, this power saver might not be needed anymore. What I am concerned now is the "conserve cpu usage" function of the power saver. Does it greatly affect the battery life when the screen is ON? Using max power all the time does affect our SOT?
Thanks for responses in advance. Good day!
Well first thing first... I know if you are running a custom kernel the power saving cpu conserve didn't do anything for me... The kernel runs at its own max speed and everything.
I haven't checked how it affected the stock kernel
I did some tests when I first got it.
The saver limits your CPU at 1.2 GHz. This is the biggest save except the brightness but it doesn't translate into too much battery use. At most you go from let's say 10% per hour of screen time to around 13%.
If you really need the battery I say stick with the extreme version.
Used the power saver at the beginning. The phones battery life wasnt that much better, on the other hand the performance didnt get worse either. I dont believe that it really helps that much, ...
if you don't really like your battery life, you cand consider changing your rom.. some of them have huge improvement in battery life
When I was on stock when I bought the phone used, I tried power saver and it did help battery life a bit but I never measured it. Performance drop was barely noticeable either though. I ended up just using it at night in case it helped deep sleep. Now I'm using VoIP for phone and text so there really is no deep sleep anymore on my phone with that stuff running and data always on, however I still get through a day no matter what rom or settings.

does any one have a fix for the battery life problems with the 2.2 update? my incredible is having horrible battery life and i dont know how to fix it can someone help me? i am not rooted
I wouldn't say my Droid Incredible's battery life got any worse after the 2.2 update, but being on the stock battery and refusing to bump charge leaves me wanting more battery life in general.
I've had a TON of success using SetCPU for underclocking. I'm seeing a massive increase in battery life, and the performance is still quite good. I know you said you're not rooted, but Unrevoked's one-click root for the Incredible is completely worth it. It's dead simple, barely takes any time, and I didn't lose a thing. (SetCPU requires root)
For what it's worth, I find 691Mhz max to be a great speed for the Incredible. I've gotten huge battery savings using it, along with using the profile function to turn it down to 460 max when the screen is off.
Also, keeping an eye on your display brightness can help big-time. The setting that automatic brightness selects for the Incredible will make sure you keep saying "wow, this phone has a great screen!" but it won't do you any favors when it comes to battery life. Keeping around a few widgets (like Tasker tasks, if you have that installed) to help you lower the brightness quickly can really help, as long as you're willing to squint at your screen a little.
What is the best rom for the Epic that will improve battery life? I have an Evo. My wife has an Epic. Mine will go all day and end up at 45-50%. Hers will end up at 15-20%. I know that 2.2 will make some great changes to the battery life (God I hope so), but what choices do we have now?
Epic Experience with Phoenix kernel gives me a good 14-18 hours with medium usage.
Rims don't change anything really battery related. Kernels are what effect battery life.
Also, you don't need a specific kernel to get amazing battery life. Get these apps
Spare parts
Autostarts
Juicedefender ultimate
Spare parts will tell you what is killing the battery
Autostarts will disable the drm crap on startup
Juicedefender will disable the data and wifi when not needed.
I can get 24 hours on my epic without even trying to conserve battery.

Speed freak and in desperate need of good battery life are polar opposites of each other. Nothing the phone does at this point needs the processor to be clocked any higher than stock and doing so is detrimental to battery life. The phone is plenty speedy using that combo. You might get the occasional hiccup in a menu for a half a second, but it is worth it for the amazing battery life, and it isn't a big deal at all.
yeah i realize they are complete opposite. im just trying to find a good balance between battery life and power. i may just have to sacrifice a little power for battery life then. i will try this combo maybe tomorrow, seeing as though i have homecoming tonight lol.
i get 60 hours + with moderate usuage. andromeda rom which includes andromeda kernal. You do not need spare parts or any task killers. 24 hours is weak battery llife. phone calls is the most extensive battery drain. if i do not make a call i can browse all day and still have 40% left.
This is how you get amazing battery performance.
I have some very VERY helpful hints of great battery life for the Epic 4g. (as i am on hour 26 to 28 and have 20% left with about 1 to 1.5 hours of screen on use.)
First off, use black, or almost black background. Our screens are superAMOLED. This means that if the screen is showing black... those particular black pixels... are simply not on. If you have the home screen black, and have no icons on it, then the status bar is all that is using power... maybe 6 or 8 percent.
Next, Lose the brightness. A few helpful hints on this. 1) uncheck the autobrightness in the display settings 2) turn the brightness down in the display settings 3) If you slide your finger from right to left across the status bar at the top, the screen will dim, if you slide your finger from left to right, it will brighten(this causes accidental brightness 4) cover this light sensor on the right side at the top (I believe) because the phone seems to have a problem always autobrighting even with the uncheck in the settings. This is done best with electrical tape, or perhaps finger nail polish. These things should ensure to always be at minimum brightness
Next, Install Frankenstein Froyo Rom(lightest rom=less cpu usage/blackest rom=less screen battery usage), And Genocide Kernel(undervolted)
Next, install task killer(keeps the rom at optimum efficiency meaning less cpu usage assuming you are killing the apps 3 or 4 times a day) install set cpu(This allows you to limit the cpu clock speed(400mhz is optimal usable and battery settings)
Things to remember, ALWAYS TURN THE SCREEN OFF.
If you pick it up every thirty seconds to see if you have a text, then just sit it down... whats happening now.. The screen is staying on for another 15 seconds probably. DUH!!! bye bye battery!!
TURN OFF THE SCREEN BEFORE YOU SIT THE PHONE DOWN!!!
Turn off gps when not in use.
Turn off wifi when not in use.
Turn off 4g when not in use
Dont use it as an mp3 player.
Dont talk on speaker phone.
Those last few were pretty obvious.. but some people need to be told.
I Hope this helps anyone looking to conserve battery. Follow these steps and i promise 24 hours plus ever time and often as much as 48 hours.
Enjoy
EDIT****
By the way, When you set yourself up with this rom, you are making your phone TWICE as fast... LITERALLY. Hard to believe that a ROM could be twice as fast.
With stock android2.1 this phone gets 800 to 900 in quadrant(benchmark tool/tell how fast your phone REALLY is) Stock android 2.2 quadrant score is a little better scoring as high as 1000.
With this setup, i have gotten as high as 1950 in quadrant. No joke. This is reflected as you cant even tell the phone is clocked down to 400mhz without heavy apps and REALLY paying attention.
Hi Guys,
I am on Roto JMI v2 and noticed that the battery consumption on Display is around 60-70% all the time even at minimum brightness and power saving mode. Is that normal? Help?
Cheers!
I am on stock and it's always on 83%, so you are better off. My guess is this reading shows the total battery consumption and not the current battery usage.
Normal. Same for me.
Hey thanks for the reply guys was really confused since read on xda a post where the guy mentions 20% usage on overcome rom

its not a bug, the display is what always eats the battery in devices.
Another thing that puzzles me is that whether I have the brightness at MINIMUM or I have it around 35%, the phone still showed the same %age of battery consumption. So does this mean irrespective of the level of brightness, it is going to consume that much of juice or increases with level of brightness (which is only logical) ?
Also, it seems my battery usage gauge is all messed up! Even after around 5 hrs on standby and intermittent usage, it showed 12 m 5 s. Very strange!
When you set the LCD brightness to minimum, current still run through it to operate, if not it will be totally blank (as in darkness). So, 35% is good enough.
My personal opinion, the battery status is always a bull, I'd never trust it, after experiencing so much battery issue prior to my upgrade. I would just enjoy the fun of owning the tab and when it's time to upgrade (to another tab), nothing else matter..............
So long as it kills my time (by playing games, listening to music, watching youtube), improve my efficiencies (by having the necessary apps), keeping in touch (emails, facebook, Skype, phone calls, etc) and most importantly, it is extremely portable. Other than that, I just charge it before I go to bed.
It serves my daily needs. I am happy.
I saw a similar topic in the atrix section and it looks very useful, so I searched the samsung forum but found nothing. Therefore I created this. Feel free to post your CM10 based rom battery life.
This is more for trouble shooting and sharing tips and tricks to extend the CM10 battery life. Also post some screenshots to show us your battery life, one of tour screen on time and one for your overall usage

Testing RRemix
I get a drain of 4-5% per hour on CM10 which isn't normal. According to BBS I don't see any excessive wakelocks, also battery stats in settings shows phone sleeping.
I tried a lot of different things to see if the drain reduces. Finally when i changed 3G to 2G the drain reduced.
I know 3G consumes more battery than 2G, but this drain was excessive and nothing like I saw on Stock or CM9 ROM's.
I'm using PA 1.98 and Siyah 4.0.1. I feel this is a very good combination in terms of battery life and performance.
On a full charge, I easily get around 20hrs on medium-heavy usage. I used Lux AB to control brightness and VC just for reference to check on deepsleep and cpu states. I also used battery widget reborn beta for its cool stats and auto flight mode control. Disabled all haptic feedback and vibration alerts cos I could just use a low-volume profile. Disabled hardware keys backlight(if i can find the home button in the dark, no prob finding the rest)

Yes, I experience the same. 3G draines the battery and much more than on any other ROM I ever used.
My battery is no better or worse that on other roms, i loose about 15% of battery an hour with half an hour use or so. Any screenshots anyone? Or tips, did anything improve your battery??
i using CM10 ,the battery consumption still bad compared to stock rom ICS..so,no different to me,LOL

A drain of 8-10% per hour if you actively use is fine. But while sleeping my usual drain on stock /CM9 is about 1-2% per hour.
I think due to all the hacks that are required currently to get CM10 working with ICS closed binaries we have this battery issue.IF it was
an app BBS would have shown, if my phone had deep sleep issues, cpu spy should have shown but I don't get anything in either of these.
CM10 on Galaxy S2
I'm running the latest CM10 nightly build (20120906) for my Galaxy S2.
The ROM works blazingly fast and I haven't had any bugs as of yet :victory:
The battery life is quite poor however, I get around 11 hours from full battery to nearly dead with moderate-light usage.
Today I used Google Navigate with GPS and 3G for around 15 minutes and it chewed through around 15% in just 15 minutes :crying:
I really hope they fix the battery life as its the only thing holding this ROM back.
This was my rom drain on standby with cm10 pretty good in my opinion

That's pretty awesome. Care to share the build and if you did something else (other kernel, settings, anything)?
my phone has battery problem with CM10 too
battery dead 2x faster than CM9 Rom
specially when use Wifi or GPS
i never had my phone for more than 20 hour
I am using CM10 nightly 20121017. I have switched to CM10 nightly builds since two weeks. Before I was on stock 4.0.3 Greek Vodafone. Also I have tried a lot of custom ROMs.
In conclusion: with 3G on, WiFi keep alive, gmail, push exchange mail and all other notifications off (eg Facebook), all touch vibrations off, from 8am that I unplug the phone, it lasts max until 5pm. And this is Almost the same with all roms.
This is a smartphone and in order to operate as a smartphone of consumes a lot of energy! I can get a Nokia 6310 to have just a phone that lasts for a week...
My opinion is that someone must produce better batteries!

I hardly get a day of battery life. The most efficient battery saving technique which I realised was to put your phone into airplane mode when not in any use. I put my phone to airplane mode while I am asleep or I am attending classes. Amazing battery saving technique.
Other thing we can do is to use a cm10 version of rom with the memory leak issue fixed. If its not, you might even need to charge your phone even twice a day.
Disable 3G(use 2g only mode) when not using the web. 3g sucks a hell lot of battery.

I'm using AOKP (4.1.2) and I really love the rom itself, but I got the feeling that my battery is drained more when screen is on than usual.
With screen off I get good battery life - like 0.5 - 1% battery loss per hour with the standard samsung battery.
But when I surf over wifi for like 15 minutes the battery is drained like 10%. (I always use lowest brightness setting)
I know that the screen really eats through the battery, but this still seems rather high, doesn't it?

Welcome to Jelly Bean. :highfive:
That could be it - so far all jellybean roms I tested seemed to drain more power with screen on than ics or gb ever did.
And my problem is not related to no deep sleep or something keeping cpu alive - when screen is off everything feels normal.
I have reverted to rocket rom v12 cause that... JB is nice but this battery leak is not acceptable for me. Rr v12 is best solution definitelly.

What I found out so far: auto-rotate on is a battery drainer - with it on system_server constantly stays at like 5-10% cpu usage, android.system.ui also uses more CPU % with auto-rotate on, CONSTANTLY.
I've read this is due to a too short polling interval for the location sensors, if someone knows how to change that please let me know, but I'm also trying myself.
Use BetterBatteryStats, my friend, to check if there's a wakelock with some app.
battery drain
i am watching this thread, because i also encountered battery drain on JB. thought battery is gone. hence bought a new one. slightly better but still drains a lot. i think the battery drain is because of smart stay. smart stay uses front camera to decide whether you are looking at screen. so when screen is on, front camera is also on and hence the double drain. at least for last four hours, battery drain is in check, after i turned off smart stay. hope this is right and help all of you.
I have the same issue.. Infact I believe this damaged my Battery.. it was working fine until I was on Stock ICS. After I flashed JB LSZ, I noticed heavy battery drain as well as wierd battery status indications..
Just today I noticed that the battery is slightly bulged..
it might just be the wrong time, or something with the ROM..
my phone is just 15 months old now.
Well to be honest my battery life is "ok" - I do get like 1-2 days depending on usage. As I already said, when the phone is in standby mode it drains very few power like it should. (I do have flight mode on almost all the time too, because I don't use it as a phone, just for data when I need it)
But I got this feeling that the battery drains alot faster than I was used to on screen on time since I'm on jellybean. The thing is, that I've checked almost anything, with BetterBatterystats, BatteryMonitor Widget and Powertutor.
The drainers when screen is on are #1 the Screen and #2 Android-System using the CPU. I've already deactivated auto-rotate and the media-scanner, this helped a bit. The only process that's really showing up in System Load is "android.system.ui" at like 2-5% CPU.
Is this jellybean-wide or could this be due to the additional AOKP tweaks?
How can I break it further down to find what really causes the load? (beside Screen taking more energy on JB which would make no sense from a physical viewpoint, the cpu-usage of android.system.ui can only be the other cause of the battery drain right?)
