Bootloader unlock WITHOUT volume buttons - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there any way to unlock the bootloader without the volume buttons? Mine have broken (even when the button circuit board has been replaced) and all programs or guides i have found ask you to do at least one action with the volume buttons.
Unfortunately i have also upgraded to 5.1.1 so no easy root options.
Stock rom (hence the need to unlock and add functionality due to the loss of hardware buttons)
Thanks!

I think you should be able to use abd and use a command that goes something like "adb reboot bootloader" which will allow you to get in to the bootloader and unlock it.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using XDA Free mobile app

You should also be able to reboot to Bootloader from NRT, can't you?

You'll be able to adb reboot bootloader but as far as I remember you'll have to confirm unlocking a bootloader using volume keys.

Just checked, if you have ADB debugging on, you can just use NRT to boot you into the bootloader from a regular state. No need to use button combos, however, I think you need to be able to use the volume rocker to confirm the unlock......

[Q] Unlock bootloader without Power button

Does anyone know a way I can unlock the bootloader or unroot the phone without using the power button?
I can get into android recovery but cant select any of the options because I have no power button.
I managed to get into fastboot with the Toolkit and I was trying to get my phone back to stock to warranty it. I wasn't thinking and re-locked the bootloader before unrooting the phone. Now I can't "undo" that because of the phone prompts to choose yes or no when unlocking the bootloader.
I am looking for a way to unroot a phone with a locked bootloader or a way to unlock the bootloader while bypassing the yes/no screen.
I found a solution but it was for the galaxy nexus using a hex editor and I wasn't going to mess with that unless it was specifically for the nexus 4.
Any help is appreciated.

[Q] Unlock bootloader without power button

I have a stock 2012 Nexus 7 Wifi + 3G which (was) on 4.4.4. The power button does not work in the bootloader or when booted up, but I can use it to reset the phone and boot into the bootloader.
I had the bright idea of using the Wugs Toolkit to reflash the factory ROM to see if that would correct the problem. Unfortunately, the bootloader was still locked.... it formatted the partitions but then couldn't write anything back, so now it will only boot into the bootloader. I can't unlock the bootloader because you have to confirm you want to unlock it by pressing the power button, which doesn't work.
Is there any way I can unlock the bootloader without having to do that power button press to confirm it?
Thanks
Ian

Volume Down jammed - can't boot past the bootloader

Hi
The Volume Down button is jammed (the phone fell and landed on its edge slightly crushing the frame where the volume down is). Curiously the Volume Up button still increased the volume.
After turning the phone off the problem came when turning on the phone as it now only boots into the bootloader as a result of the jammed Volume Down button.
Once in bootloader mode, the volume up/down buttons do not change the reboot options - it appears the stuck Volume Down button is causing this.
The way to fix this is to take the phone apart (as per the Youtube clips) and physically straighten the frame.
This is no easy task, so the question: is there a way around this so that the phone can boot?
It's rooted and fastboot commands work. (I installed TWRP but can only boot to recovery with adb).
Any help will be appreciated. Thank you.
fastboot reboot system?

No, the device is reading the hardware correctly and booting to bootloader. The only way to fix this is to fix your device.

He said he could still issue fastboot commands. If the device is OFF and he has to press the POWER button to turn it on, it is reading the VOL DOWN as being pressed as well. If he issues the reboot command in Fastboot, it should boot into system because he won't need to press the POWER button and VOL DOWN (being pressed by the bent frame) at the same time, right?
OP also said he could get to recovery from ADB, but I think he meant Fastboot because ADB is only available when you are booted to Android.
Clarification
"I installed TWRP but can only boot to recovery with adb" is unclear.
I was meaning that one can only boot directly to recovery using adb. In fastboot, one can't get to recovery.
At the moment adb can't be used - only fastboot.
When I issue the fastboot reboot command, it just returns to the bootloader. I was hoping it would bypass the Volume Down state, but sadly no.
Thanks for your input though - I knew it was a longshot.
By the way, the phone wasn't dropped, but came out of my pocket going up some stairs - the bigger size makes it not as stable!
A bit late to reply, but for the sake of the next guy that comes looking, the command you were looking for is:
Code:
fastboot continue
This should tell the bootloader to boot into system.
You are still right about not being able to boot into recovery from bootloader (that's the headache I am currently having)
Any way of disabling the volume key altogether without doing anything physical to the phone?
I tried editing Generic.kl from /system/usr/keylayout/, but that only makes a difference when the phone is booted, not before that. Any way to disable the key before the phone has booted?
Cuz this is my mum's phone and she will have no idea what "fastboot" is

Elephone S7 X25 4G Unable to Unlock Bootloader/Root/Flash

I have a Elephone S7 with the home button broken (only fingerprint scan works) and also when I try to use adb & fastboot to unlock the bootloader the volume keys wont work so I'm unable to unlock it's bootloader, nor flash nor root.
I can detect it via adb, I can push the fastboot roem unlock option to the phone but then it asks me to press volume up to say "yes" and the volume keys won't work. Only pressing the power button works to reboot the phone. (the power button and volume keys strip is brand new because I broke my previous one changing my battery). Also my Android version is the 7.1.1.
I've searched and grinded for days and I can't seam to find a way to unlock my bootloader, nor root my device. No one-click root app works. And also yes, my phone is in Developer Mode + USB Debug Activated + OEM Unlock Activated.

Volume key broken, STUCK ON FB SCREEN

OK, there goes a big problem, I believe that my volume button - is broken and ends up being pressed constantly, so the phone goes straight into fastboot, I have tried several commands like fb-mode-clear, reboot-bootloader ...
nothing went right, i would like to know if it is possible to disable the physical buttons via fastboot for it to boot normally....
Or some command to enable USB Debugging via Fastboot;
additional information: bootloader blocked.
Now you broke de button, you are stuck ButrĂ³n

You are not able to change anything with a locked bootloader. So you can't modify/disable the hard keys.
USB debugging in fastboot mode is not possible.
The only way to fix this is to repair the key.

I managed to turn the device on once and enabled usb debugging, is there any way to disable the volume button (-) via command or TWRP?
To boot up your phone you must press+hold Vol +, too. This combo creates a bugreport and let your phone boot normally.
When I press and hold the vol- key on my Moto I can still use it as I always do except from locking it.
Try to remap your keys by installing the app "Button Mapper: Remap your keys" (by flar2). It's available in the Play Store and runs without root permissions.
