How grippy is the standard back? - X Style (Pure) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
can anyone tell me how grippy the standard back cover is? Trying to figure out, whether it will fit a fleece/ leather pouch or be too hard to get in and out.

Should be no problem. They're actually quite a bit slippery in hand.

Need Suggestions for Vibrant physical protection

Getting my vibe tomorrow, and want to get some stuff to protect it. Since it is a giant piece of plastic, it must be vulnerable to damage moreso than other phones. I will be putting the phone in my pocket most often.
Suggestions: Are Hard or Gel or Silicon or TPU the best material for cases in terms of dropping and scratching? Should I get a screen protector (don't want to spend more than a few bucks on this).
Please leave a little description or note so it's easier to understand the reasoning for the product. Thanks!
I've looked at some suggestions so far, with 10$ for 2 screens and other various expensive stuff. I was wondering if the cheaper ebay stuff such as http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-Clear-LCD-S...811631?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item43a4730aaf would still be good for the vibrant? Definitely cost cutting.
Also, some TPU cases are just 1-2 dollars on ebay. Otterboxes on the other hand are +25$ sadly.

Case mate tough case. Kinda pricey but really cool. It doesn't grip your pocket when you try to take it out. But it feels good in your hand.

+1 on the realook screen protectors.
Powered by Axura with a dash of Voodoo
No screen protector and use the black one from tmobile
Zagg invisible shield and otterbox commuter case. TPU cases from ebay is pretty good and cheeap also.
+1 on the realook sp and body glove flex chrome case. it might feel a little weighty but the lip on the faux chrome bit is well worth the size increase.
thanks! lots of suggestions here. it will help if you leave a little note about your suggestion since everyone has a different opinion (such as why you might want to avoid getting screen protectors)
Seidio Innocase or Otterbox commuter. Had the Otterbox on my Slide and it worked awesome. I got the Seidio for the Vibe because I also wanted the clip and so far all is good with it. I'm using the screen protector from T-Mobile cause I had it left from when my wife got hers, works fine for me.

bodyglove
I have the bodyglove and it has worked well. I have dropped it twice and it still snaps back on and my phone is not scratched
I just ordered this http://www.case-mate.com/Samsung-Ga...axy-S-T-Mobile-Vibrant-Barely-There-Cases.asp
and before that I had the $2 case off ebay the one with diamond back to it, and its a great case just wanted to try something different, check this out if you dont like the idea of barely there case http://cgi.ebay.com/Samsung-Vibrant...226743?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item5641ecd1f7 heard its a good one too.
Oh and dont listen to anyone who tells you not to get a screen protector, your screen will get scratched if you dont... my friend is a perfect example and he swears he never had his keys and phone in the same pocket.
anyone have the Tirdent Cyclops and like it?
well got my phone, and the guy already threw on a generic screen protector and gave me a clear argyle? silicon case on top. i guess i'll use these for now until i see the use for better.
i have never touched it naked then forever virgin

I have it and really like it. I was going to suggest it, but it might be too bulky for pocket carry. The outside would probably be covered in dust and lint also. I don't own the Otterbox Commuter, but I think the Trident Cyclops provides more protection. It has dust covers for the speakers and silicone plugs for the usb and headphone jack. Only thing unprotected would be the microphone hole.
in what sense would the speakers and plugs be unprotected--just dust? cant you use that keyboard compressed air blower for those?
i was wondering because my silicone case makes it impossible to get the usb charging port open so i was considering it just leaving it open forever, but not if its vulnerable to dmg
I have the T-Mobile rubber one, I like it but I hate the lint/hair it collects. I also hate how it scratched the hell out of the bezel. But I think that woud happen with any other case.
I've been checking out the Trident one and thought it looked pretty good.
My girlfriend got a Seido case for her Droinc and it reminds me of the inCase cases for iPhones, I wish they'd make them for the Vibrant...

Nothing can be better than the Otterbox. Pricey though.

Sand back cover for grip

Ever notice how the back cover of your phone is very slippery? Has anyone tried to lightly sanded the back? I think I am going to try it.

Put a strip of duct tape on it instead. That way you won't ruin the cover, and duct tape will make it stick to your hand!

The slippery back is the main reason I got a case, but if you dont want to run a case I would try something less permanent before sanding the case.
First thing that pops into my head is 'grip tape.'
maybe some more like this would tickle your fancy?

This is perfect. Im gunna lightly sand mine with some 1200 grit auto just to take the gloss and make it flat. If it doesn't look good I'm just gunna buy a rubberized back
Edit: I just sanded it. It looks and feels pretty cool. I little bit more grip. In a month I will probably buy a new back

OK, easy solution is Zagg invisibleSHIELD. Get the front and back, nice and grippy, I love it.

Seems to be out online, but eBay has them.
I ordered the blue and green, because from what I read (on other forums) they have totally different textures.
Almost dropped my phone twice yesterday, so hopefully I'll be done with the slippery plastic cover soon...
While mine are in transit, has anyone else used the rubberized battery covers yet?
Thoughts on them?...

I have the rubberized back (green) for my atrix. I personally love it more than any other case. It doesn't add bulk since it's just a replacement for the battery door, and it's grippy enough that it doesn't slip out of my hands. Best $15 I ever spent.

I wish they had a same size battery cover as OEM specs that had a rubberized coating. The ones mentioned in a previous post look like they wrap around the sides of the phone and have queer colors. Plain black would suffice my needs.

The best option would have been the Motorola Droid/Milestone rubberized backing.
The battery door was durable metal on the inside and rubber on the outside. Also extremely easy to open and close with metal hinges.
The Milestone just SMOKE the Atrix in build quality, sadly the specs are a little outdated otherwise I wouldn't be looking to upgrade it...
I am thinking about trying the 1200 grit sanding idea and then painting the battery cover white. Any thoughts on this or what type of paint to use? I am relatively new to modding, painting, etc. and want it to look as clean as possible. I'll planning on following it up with a Zagg Shield. Thoughts?

I forgot what type of paint to use. Clear coat it to make it look good and protect the paint.
I voided my warranty.
Cool.....I have a spare battery cover so I'll try some plastic spray paint with several coats and follow up with a clear coat. Thanks.

Crystal Clear TPU/Gel Case

Does anyone know of a TPU/Gel case that would cover the back, yet be crystal clear, so the nice back of the N4 wouldn't get covered up?
Any pointers would be appreciated.
Thanks.
There's a clear S-Line TPU case which can be found on eBay, but please, use the search function.

there's one on ebay for $1.77 from china....just wondering why havent people start posting pics of their nexus with the TPU cases ...would love to see one in action.
The i-Blason SoftGel Flexible TPU Case for Google Nexus 4 is clear frosted but it apears to be quite transparent as when I zoom in on the image I think I can see the pattern on the back.

These companies like IBASON releases the s-line case, they are the same ones from CHINA!! please they just put there logos on it.

Leather vs Silicone back

I'm trying to decide between a black leather back and a black silicone back. How are people finding them this year? Which one feels nicer? and which one is more durable?

I was going to go with the wood back (smooth) then put a carbon fiber wrap on it.
I am also looking for comments on black leather vs. black silicone back.

Why would you pay more for wood just to put a sticker over it?

So I got the silicon back after all of the ravings and I'm not really feeling it. I like the feel of the silicon but the raised grooves just aren't for me.
For those who went with the leather, is it soft at all? I haven't really heard too much depth about how it feels from those who got it. Can you even tell that it is leather? Does it seem slippery to sweaty hands? Thanks for any input.
I am more concerned about the leather dissipating heat. I would think the wood and then leather dissipate heat better than silicone.
2014 was leather. Loved it, but after reading all the good things about the new silicon backs i decided to go that route. Plus, the leather was a bit slippery, so i figured with the bigger phone the silicon back would help with the grip. Can't wait to finally get it.
I ordered the leather, I'm excited to try something different. Plus I already have a white oak and walnut back on my Mi4.

What do you mean by the raised grooves? The new lines on the back?
Yeah I heard the leather wasn't soft too and felt more like hard plastic, so I went with a silicone back. Can anyone confirm this?

If you want to keep it slippery, try some diluted lye. It may cause some discoloration, but will render the oils into a really slick substance.
It might work on your phone, too.

Oh, I must be the party of one...I love the silicon back. The texture is different and pleasant. Maybe that's just compared to crappy silicon cases I usually have on my phones or the faux-leather backing of my Note Edge.
It also seems like it'll be durable. Naturally, it won't scratch like the back of most metal/glass phones, which often quickly renders a phone unattractive and unsellable.

I just got my phone yesterday with the leather back. It is not hard like plastic, but has a slight amount of squishyness. Not much though. It is more slippery than I thought it would be, but overall I like it. As far as head dissipation, I'm not sure that the back material will make much of a difference, and my phone so far is staying cool unless I am charging the battery.
While waiting, I was second guessing my decision to get the soft grip over the leather, but I really like it. I would order the same again.

Ohh ok that sounds good then. What kind of leather would you compare it to? I had a G4 with a leather back before, do you know if it feels similar to that? Or is it harder or softer?
I went with the silicone back but keep wondering if I should have went with leather.
Is there any other phone or material you can compare the silicone back to?
I just got mine today and got black leather. So far, I really like it and am looking forward to see how it looks as it ages.

Mod-capable case

So I've looked around, and it seems like this should be a no-brainer, but I can't seem to find anything like what I'm envisioning. I'm picturing a full case, a la otterbox or something similar, but with spring pins on the inside to engage the contacts on the back of the phone, and contacts on the exterior of the case that has magnets built in to function as the "new back" of the phone, so you don't have to remove your case to use a mod. Am I just missing something here? Because I don't think it's been made yet, and really feel like it's a no-brainer. Or is there some logistical problem I'm not seeing?
Crap. Posted in the wrong subforum. My bad.
I have been searching for the same thing. I'm used to Otterbox cases and can't stand being without one. So I keep looking but no luck. So. Eine will eventually make one. I would even consider a generic gel case.

Yeah, at this point I'd be perfectly content with a gel case and a glass screen protector.

I'm not looking for skins though. Slickwraps and other stuff like it really don't protect against drops. I'm looking for at least a bumper gel case. I'm seriously considering modifying my otterbox at this point. Anyone know where I can get some gold plated pogo pins with flat contacts on the back?

Interesting. So you're also thinking of adding in magnets to secure the mod to the back of the otterbox if you can figure out how to "extend" the pins?
Apparently the stock bumper case + mods work well. Stock bumper case and no mods doesn't fit properly.
I actually bought a regular bumper from amazon and used a utility knife to carve out the back. There's a little slack on the sides, but it definitely provides bump protection; so it's doing what I wanted it to. Mods all seem to fit well too.
