Higher possibilities for custom rom now? - Honor 7 General

Phone released in Europe now. Waiting for mine, should be here within a few days. Do you think there will be any custom roms available soon, or at all?
Just made a quick search online and can't find any, and also read that it's against the rules here on xda to link to them in that case? How come?

maybe if Huawei or Honor release source code with binary.. without i thing is impossible or very very complicated, but we are waiting..

If you want to run aosp based roms like CyanogenMod then Honor/Huawei is a pretty bad choice.
Better get a Qualcomm powered phone.

it is a HiSilicon Kirin 935 CPU working. The CPU-Code is absolutely unknown for the moment! No Code = No possibility to get a custom rom!
Or did you know any other Kirin smartphone with a running custom rom on it???

There were a number of custom roms for huawei P6 (released 2013, i owned one) for sure. But not into custom roms, so not sure what was the progress with honor 6 (2014, owned it) and Honor 6 plus on custom roms. Could go through Mate 7, and P8 forums as well.
Possible if searching through Chinese websites might find MIUI 6 for honor 7 or something of that sort.

Custom Roms for Huawei P8 Lite (BlissROM)?

Hello!
This is my first post, any suggestions on how to improve are gladly taken!
I would like to install a Bliss Rom which does not support my Huawei P8 Lite (Android 5.0).
Is it possible? And if not, what ROMs would you suggest?
I think our cute little p8lite doesn't have any custom roms.. But we have to hope we will get a few.. Maybe some roms ported from honor 4x?
Ps. And remember... You can't install roms from another devices
i wish to be a lot or custom rooms to our p8 lite too !
will we ever get a cyanogenmod?
You may want to follow @XePeleato 's efforts in porting (help appreciated) here -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/p8lite/general/rom-aosp-5-1-1-ale-l21-t3350106
Unfortunately at the current phase the RIL is not working (you are not able to call / receive call)
The problem probably lays in the HIiSilicon Kirin chipset. The chipset is fairly unique, with only a few devices built with it, there are no general fixes for issues like RIL problems, so everything needs manual fixing, which is like modify-rebuild-try, after every effort to trying to fix issues.
It takes time, and manual labour, which is very tedious.
XePeleato said, he'll wait for the official 6.0 releases, and try to do some things after that.
I'm also interested in the building process itself, already downloaded a linux vm, and the CM source code itself, and I'm trying to learn how the system is working, so there are mulltiple people who are willing to make ROMs.
There is a person who works on cyanogenmod for our p8lite.

You can install sokkoban's rom. It is emui but contain a lot of features that aren't available now on Huawei p8 lite. Especially camera modes like light painting, super night mode etc. http://huaweip8lite.blogspot.com/?m=1

Mate 9 Lite - BLL-L23 [Looking for Official Support]

Hey, everyone,
I just bought a new Mate 9 Lite [BLL-L23] and would like some help with how to make it my own. I am familiar with other devices - but, not the BLL-L23.
I am very appreciative, my friends! Here's what I'd like to know:
1. Does anyone know when we'll get Android Oreo (or, at the least, Android Nougat)?
-- I am currently running 6.0; EMUI 4.1.
2. Is there an official support forum for the BLL-L23?
3. Does anyone know how to root the BLL-L23 using Magisk or Chainfire (which is better)?
4. Is there a recent TWRP recovery available?
5. What else should I do to take full advantage of my device?
THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR EVERYTHING, EVERYONE!

1. I guess that it would be some months after update of Mate 9 / Mate 9 Pro, but in worst case Huawei can forget about this model...
2. Did not find anything useful
3-4. You can use knowledge of Honor 6x: https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-6x
Specifications are close to be same.
5. It is better to change device. Mate 9 has lower community versus Samsung's S8 community, but Mate 9 Lite has lowest...

Strogino, I really hope that Huawei wouldn't forget about this model - because, it's not even a year old, and many people (including Android Authority) say that Huawei is a great company with great branded phones.
I heard that there is a beta program for the Mate 9 Lite... Do you know anything about this?
Also, I know that it's obvious that Samsung S8's community is much bigger due to the popularity of the company; however, I'm sure that many people are also fans of Huawei. The Mate 9 Lite actually is a pretty decent phone for the budget!

[ROM PORT REQUEST] MIUI 9 for Mi5 based on Android 8.0 Oreo by Xiaomi.eu to Z2 Plus

Hi Devs,
It's a humble request to all Experienced (Recognized) Developers/Young Developers/Members of XDA to PORT MIUI 9 ROM based on Android 8.0 Oreo for Mi5 by Xiaomi.eu to our beloved Z2 Plus device...
I know MIUI 9 by YouLinw exists for our device, but that PORT is purely based on Chinese build of MIUI 9 for Mi 5 based on Android 7.1.2 Nougat and is very limited to global users. No international user understands Chinese very well and they prefer the language in their preferred locale and Xiaomi.eu project enables the same and provides multi-language Official ROMs (PORT) by Xiaomi. Plus it is backed up by built-in Google Apps, so there's no need to perform any Gapps installations after flashing the ROM itself and is TWRP friendly ROM...
User/Dev Narshi Shukla has done exceptionally well in maintaining the MIUI 9 thread and providing help/support for that particular ROM PORT by YouLinw and changing/modifying many aspects of the PORTED ROM itself to make the ROM more usable to Global end users but still it lacks these three points, First is Android Oreo build and Second Gapps and Thirdly the addition of International languages/locale.
Considering the above benefits of having Globalized version of MIUI 9 for our Z2 Plus, that too on 8.0 Oreo build and with GApps included is something that many users are looking for...
I was trying to PORT this ROM my self but I'm facing technical problems with my PC hardware, as such my motherboard has got damaged and was sent for repairs to Service Centre and is with them since last few weeks and till now, no report on repairs done by them/working condition/service completion of hardware by the concerned SC... So I would request other Devs to Kindly step forward, if possible, please...
Your efforts are always appreciated and welcome guys...

Well, atleast let the ROM go stable for Mi5, as it is released just few days ago in beta. After proper release, porting maybe an option.

Agreed but the ROM is already out of Internal Alpha Testing to Private Beta Testing to Public Beta/Developer/Weekly ROM now... We can wait... There's no issue in waiting for this ROM to get PORT though...

Some users reported heat and just 3 4 hours sot, force closes here and there and there are many Oreo features are missing,
Let it progress and lets see how stable it will be after 2 3 updates,
Porting Xiaomi eu roms among other are in my list, but time management is a problem for me so it may take time.
Hope to see more devs/users trying to port MIUI based on global Branch.

That's what I said but I think MIUI 10 will be properly compatible with Oreo as MIUI is always little late implementing all the features from AOSP like the amount of time taken them to apply notification reply.

About the OREO Update

There are many Sources that suggest its happening.
But I would like to know the Chances of Custom Roms happening for the P10 Lite wich are based on Android 8.
And lets just assume it gets it. You think this Phone will die out ? Seeing Devices like the Nexus 5 wich is 5 Years old already having a Bunch of Oreo Updates makes me Wonder

Through Xiaomi's new policy .....

Through Xiaomi's new policy phones manufactured for Chinese market
are not been able to run MIUI Global ROM and vice versa.

if you dont have an unlocked bootloader it wont let you flash a global rom.
this is basicly to prevent people from buying chinese versions from aliexpress.
the problem is that these sellers open the bootloader and install a fake global rom / global rom on it...
if you have an unlocked bootloader you are fine, your playstore wont pass safety net though
...
Now Xiaomi Phones which are manufactured in China Factory/China Hardware, can't be able to run MIUI Global ROM with Locked Bootloader.

Damn... I should've bought global version proudly made in USA with American hardware...
I just hope LineageOS will come to our phone so I can be done with all the Miui Xiaomi BS
Are the call problems on global rom irrelevant to this?
or somehow Xiaomi made the global rom incompatible with Chinese models?

Oooh, believe me, it will...
How are those AliExpress sellers unlocking the bootloader and installing fake global ROMs? Do they have an army of people making fake MIUI accounts and waiting for a month for an unlock code? Sounds to me like they use logic probes to flash the fake ROMs directly.

That's a good question.
If it is so, why would they do that?
What's the benefit of this for Xiaomi?
This looks very bad.
They can make all the excuses they want, but I think there's a pretty clear agenda here.
I'd be surprised if there's still a development community for any new Xiaomi phones in 6 months, given how fast this is deteriorating.
As long as they keep device price down, bootloader unlockable and release kernel sources everything will be fine with development community... That's all devs need.
MIUI fans are those that should worry...
Prices are likely to stay down.
The other two ... doubtful. Some people are already waiting 3 months for bootloader unlock codes. If that becomes the norm, that's development stone dead.
They've also done absolutely nothing about releasing kernels in a more timely fashion, despite promising it repeatedly over the last year. If anything they've gone up slightly.
People ignored the warning signs with Huawei, and others before them, or hoped for the best (I did). Look where we are now.
They actually released Max 3 kernel source pretty fast, less than a month after device launch...
https://github.com/MiCode/Xiaomi_Kernel_OpenSource/tree/nitrogen-o-oss?files=1
The thing is no custom roms coming out of China forums which makes me think this device has no China market success... That wasn't the case with first Max. Custom roms started popping up first week after release even without kernel source...

The problem is understanding real difference between the China & Global versions, how they decide to allow or not allow flashing of the 2 versions.
In the official announcement they imply this restriction is only for devices released under 2018.
On 4pda they seem to think that there is no actual hard difference ("model identifiers"?) between Global and Chinese Mi8, but there is for the respective Mi2s, for example.
If I read correctly.
https://4pda.ru/forum/index.php?showtopic=906971&st=940#entry75262442
Looks like all restrictions are in bootloader - unlocking, ARB, market variant. There is no hardware differences/restrictions between any of the Max 3 variants period. Otherwise you will not be able to run different MIUI versions with unlocked bootloader.
devinfo partition keeps the bootloader unlocked status. Not sure where the bits defining China/Global device are kept... yet...

That may be but it's the people who flashed the Global Rom on a China device who have the problems
with phone calls / broken modem.
Would they have built in a restriction in the Global Rom so you could not install it on a
China device to work properly ???
We won't know till proper official Global rom shows up on en.miui.com. All I see right now are global roms from under the table so to speak full of bugs.
Most of us purchased the Mi Max 3 which was manufactured for the mainland China market, because the "global" variant of the phone was only released a few weeks ago in Singapore, Hong Kong, etc. If the official warning on the Xiaomi site that phone's manufactured for the Chinese market cannot flash global ROMs and vice versa, then our solution is to use the xiaomi.eu ROM. Xiaomi.eu is a modified version of the China ROM, but is entirely in English and other European languages with full Google framework services. The MIUI 10 8.8.9 China weekly development ROM available from xiaomi.eu is rock solid. Once Xiaomi releases a China stable MIUI 10 ROM for the Mi Max 3, xiaomi.eu will tweak and release it for the English speaking world, so for those who bought their Max 3's before a global variant was manufactured will be fine as long as they use xiaomi.eu.

I'd be very surprised if this isn't selling well (very well) in China. It's an incredible value proposition, and large screen & large battery are seen as very desirable in both that and other Asian markets.
However, I think the 3 month wait for BL unlock *is* the norm now for Chinese and select other Asian users .. whereas rest of the world it appears to be totally random. Could be a couple of hours or it could be 3 months.
I think you'll find that's the reason why there's little to no Chinese development activity. As I said ... thin end of the wedge, IMO.
