[Q] Phone Shuts Off In Cold Conditions, Then Loses Remaining Power - Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

my gf is a chef, and she has to constantly go in and out of a freezer at work. the freezer is set to 0 degrees fahrenheit.
but she doesn't stay in the freezer longer than a minute at most.
her phone stays in her pocket, and when she comes out of the freezer, it's powered off.
according to articles i've read, if your phone powers off due to a cold environment, don't power it on right away. so she would wait to power it on. and when she does, its power is depleted to 0% - 5% all the way from 80% - 100%. but it doesn't happen all the time. other times is the phone would be really warm.
and only one article i found, claims that Samsung phones are operational from -4 through 122 degrees fahrenheit. (and Apple phones are operational from 32 through 95 degrees fahrenheit).
should i buy a new battery? or is the phone itself ruined?

Serious battery problem with my Nexus4

No matter on which kernel I am ,stock/franco/semaphore etc... When I play heavy games like asphalt8 ,nfs mw and GTA VC my battery drains like hell ,and then the % stuck and not going down for about 30 minutes. Here is an example:
Had 25% ,launched NFS MW and played for 5 minutes on low brightness. After 5 minutes showed up on my screen the low battery notification ,4% left. Resumed the game and after 20 seconds my phone showed "Shutting down".
It happens everytime ,no matter how many cycles I'm doing. Another example:
Yesterday I had 69% ,played GTA VC for a couple minutes and boom ,35%. After that I surfed in the web ,listened to music in Soundcloud ,and did a lot of things with screen on and battery was stuck on 35% for about 30 minutes. Launched NFS MW ,played about 2 minutes just to see what happens and boom - battery droped to 25%.
It happens only when I play heavy games. Please help me ,what can it be? Tried many roms too ,same result. Now I'm on stock JWR66Y with stock kernel.
thats normal behavior. when using the device heavily, battery drops faster. unfortunately, our battery stats are 100% accurate. when the battery drops fast, actually showing a little more battery used than it actually used. so what you are experiencing is the bounce back affect. what its doing is making itself accurate again. sometimes after using the battery alot and fast, if you let it sit there, the battery % will rise, kinda looks like its being charged without plugging in.

Ok ,got it. But what is the explanation to situation like I described here:
"Had 25% ,launched NFS MW and played for 5 minutes on low brightness. After 5 minutes showed up on my screen the low battery notification ,4% left. Resumed the game and after 20 seconds my phone showed "Shutting down".
Then I turned on my phone and battery % was 10 ,and stuck for a couple of minutes on 10.

our battery stats inaccuracy.
sometimes, when benchmarking at high cpu speeds at 70% battery left, for example, and the phone crashes, itll boot back up and show that theres 20% left(for example). then if you reboot the phone again, it go back to 70%. or if you let it just sit there at that 20% with the screen off, youll notice it slowly "charge" itself without being plugged in. this happens often. and happens on every single android phone starting with tge originally released g1. yes, our battery status is just very inaccurate and inefficient. youve probably heard of people experiencing the rlod(red light of death). this is also a good example. sometimes the phone itself creates a situation that itjust thinks that the battery fell below 0%(which creates the rlod issue). and when people get their phone up and running again, itll show 50, 60, 70%..

It's so annoying ,I'm getting crazy with that.
Anyway thank you @simms22 for your answer and your help ,appreciate it.

[Q] Phone dying suddenly.

I am having issues with my battery. It drops fast from 100 to 75 in 30 mins and them holds well till 30 during which time I can get 2:30hours of screen on time. After that when it gets to 20% the phone suddenly turns off without warning. I tried recall calibrating battery by fully charging, then bump charging it to 100 and then let it fully fall and then turn it on and let it fall. And then fully charged it but still it dies around 20% mark.
What should I do?

My battery is crazy.

Howdy!
I think my battery is fooling me around.
Quick context:
- It's a Galaxy Tab 4, 10.1", model SM-T530.
- Android version 5.0.2.
- I received it at Chirstmas in December 2014. I barely used it until June (by that I mean maybe used it 5 times for 20 minutes). The point I'm making: I did not overwhelm or overuse it.
The problem:
I've just opened my eyes and realised some oddities... And since yesterday, I'm "actively investigating" my battery, reading a lot and "gathering data".
First thing, battery strangely draining:
Today when I switched on my Tablet, it was a 65%. I used it from 12:51 to 12:59 and it was then at 52%. I was just playing a game called "Final Fantasy Record Keeper" which does not seem to be too heavy (regarding the graphics). I put the Tablet to sleep by pressing the power button as usual.
Then I had to leave, 30 minutes after, I'm at my desk, I take out the Tablet and it's now at 42%. The tablet was in sleep mode all the time (I have a password so it wasn't possible to switch on and stay on).
I play some more and decide to use a stop watch. The battery drained from 42% to 15% really quickly, with on average around 30 seconds between each percent.
I put the Tablet to sleep again.
A couple of minutes after, I check and it's at 11%.
It takes me 30 seconds to get the cable and plug the charger. Before I plug the Tablet to the charger, I can see the battery percentage plummeting 9%... 5%... 4%... 3%... In a couple of seconds...
I plug the Tablet in.
3% to 5% in a glimpse, 8%, 9%...
Second thing, battery strangely charging:
After 1h09min, it's at 66%
After 1h44min, it's at 72%
After 2h15min, it's at 78%
After 2h46min, it's at 81%
After 3h20min, it's at 84%
After 3h39min, it's at 87%
After 4h09min, it's at 90%
After 4h21min, it's at 92%
After 5h10min, it's at 94%
After 5h18min, it's at 100%
As I don't use my Tablet often, just for hobbies, I generally just put to charge overnight and I never really checked the charging speed.
This is the first "set of data" I can provide, I will definitely look cautiously into that in the following days, hopefully under some insight from you.
Note:
I was all day with Wifi on. Even when it was charging. Everything else is off. And when I use it, the brightness of the screen is always on the lowest possible level.
Thank you very much for your first diagnosis!
Have a good day/night,
I also have that tablet but the 530nu variant and i have similar issues and even weirder i just shut it off as it was at 5% plugged it in and it said 0% charger on the powered down battery screen. Turned it back on not 2 minutes later and magically it was at 93%. Just to summarize it went from 0-93% in ,literally , 2 minutes of charging and while writting this and a few othet things, about 10 minutes since powered on its only dropped one percent. How do i access the system battery files? I am rooted so i can get into any file i want.
Sent from my SM-T530NU using Tapatalk
I have SM-335 and I have been trying to charge it for the last two days and all what I managed to achieve is 56% I have not been using it, mostly trying to get it fully charged. I noticed when checking the battery usage that WiFi was draining the battery, even when switched off to charge!!!! The other functions, like mobile network signal is constant and off when the tablet is off but WiFi bar is solid, even when the device was off. Charging is intermittent too although the cable was connected most of the time.... Next step I try is hard reset but this can't be the only solution
I had that problem on my t535. From 100 to 0 in 2-3 hours. Then when i turn it on after some time, it shows 1% but tablet works for about 5 hours on that 1%, or if i connect charger without turning on it shows 0% but when i turn tablet on it shows about 90%. I asked Samsung for new device, and i got it. Now is different story, my 6800mah battery charges in about 3:40-4 hours, and lasts about 9-10 hours(screen on time). I think thats hardware problem, because they wouldnt gave me new device if it was software problem.

Battery dropped from 30% to 0% in a few seconds

Battery dropped from 30% to 0% in a few seconds and phone shut down. Unplugged from car at 40%, took pics from 30 minutes, while taking a photosphere, around 30% from the batt history, phone suddenly shut down. Recharged in car for 15 minutes a day it went up to 18% and then started working fine without shutting down.

Welcome to the battery bug! Send your phone to RMA while you can.
You believe it's that problem?
It's my very first time and outside was -2 degree...
Let's see if it does it again...
I wouldn't panic yet. Custom ROM or kernel? Check under normal temperature conditions...
No custom ROM, no custom kernel.
Just systemless root on new 7.1.1 Jan patch

Hi! If I buy a new phone with a new battery, I will not experience this problem? Right?

Don't buy one without a warranty. Huawei quality control appears to have been very poor for this phone.
I use my phone during winter. We go as low at -25 and have no problem whatsoever with the phone shutting down.
You battery is degrating. Have it RMA if it's under warranty.
I just got off the phone and google they told me that they are no longer sending out replacement batteries that there will be a software update to fix the problem and to run it in battery saving mode or put the phone in safe more......really?! C'mon this is complete bs
actually, if they really did tell you that, that's not bull****, in fact, it's fantastic news. That means they were able to find the problem and that it was software related (obviously, many different devices with the same issue)

[Q] How does your G6 behave when it runs out battery?

Hello guys!
I've been wondering - how your phones behave when they run out of juice?
All my previous phones were going from 100% to 1% without any problems, then, when the battery was at 0% there was a message that Android is shutting down and the phone then turned off. Normal thing.
However on my G6, I've NEVER had such message, also my battery never went to 0% or even 1%. It always stays at 3% for some time, then suddenly it drops to like... 2% and then it shuts down instantly without any warning. Sometimes it shuts down at 3%... Just turns off, no message displayed.
And before you reply - yes, I know that I should never drop the battery that low but sometimes it's not that easy when I'm travelling somewhere and my powerbank is also dead. But I'm very curious how your phones behave, that's why I'm asking
Besides - one time I had a problem with my battery when it was around 30% and my phone cooled down to like... 0 degrees Celsius. It also turned off instantly and was dead until I warmed it up. Did you have such problem too?
Thanks in advance!
"unfortunately" LGs have always had that behavior, similar to the "longer 100%".
About this some users believed that LG battery percentage is calculated differently according to the user usage, but who knows the truth...
Only thing I could say you for certain is that it's "normal" on LGs

So, my last 5 phones was an LG and i guarantee you this is normal with LG phones.
In the first ten or eleven chargings the phone should drop like 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 and shut down at 1% but fast when change from 2 to 1.
when well calibrated i mean let it discharge fully 1 time per month and they only should shut down when it reach 2%. LG phones only go at 1% when new and always go off at 2.
I dont know why your phone dont display the shutting down message isnt normal because my LG phones everyone of them show it, maybe is too fast and you dont see it was i belive it is.
My G6 was only about 1 week and only shutting off at 1% but my V10 shut down almost at 3%.
The 100% bug is an LG thing but for me this is a calibration method different than Sony, because sony will go 0% before go off and LG dont.
DOnt you worry, is normal but if you can charge it when have 30 - 35% is better because leave it discharging too many times lowers the cicle of life than a battery can last.
