This phone must have screen protector - Galaxy Note5 General

I got that phone for a month now when I looke at the screen after polishing it with fiber cleaner I noticed many scratches unlike the one m8 whose glass was much more durable to me also the gorilla glass3 is more durable than the glass4 so I am posting this to make people know that you need a screen protector for your smartphone

this guy prove you wrong

I have never understood why people don't spend a couple of pounds on a screen protector.
You spend hundreds on a device and then rely on good luck to keep the screen perfect.
Whatever Corning and others say, mobile screens aways get scratched after a while. A sacrificial protector just makes sense.

because it get bubbles, it doesnt look as good (matte protector) and you have to put it on damn near perfect to align everything up. I switch phone ever 6-8 months, been like this ever since the Google G1, never had I have my screen scratch. Heres an Idea, put your phone and your keys in a separate pocket.

I have never had bubbles as I spend
5 minutes putting it on properly!!!! And never use a matte protector (never seen the point) - either glass or decent plastic.
No offence to you but most people can't afford to change every few months but can afford a screen protector.
Also - of course re keys and coins are a a problem but screens scratch in normal use ..... and don't forget accident protection.
Just my £0.02

like I said, put your keys and phone in a different pocket or dont wear skinny jeans and put coins in there with your phone...there are plenty of test proving that Gorilla glass 3 and 4 can withstand tougher test than the occasional keys or coins.
if you force your screen with a knife or a screw driver then yea with enough force it'll probably scratch, otherwise enjoy the technology to it fullest.

Actually, it's more likely that you'll scratch it with sand or dirt than keys or coins. In any case, just because the OP scratched his screen doesn't mean we all will. I've never used a screen protector on my OPO (which merely has Gorilla Glass 3), and after a year it's not all scratched up.

Happy for you guys to take the risk!!!!

Sometimes its not people not wanting to spend that extra few bucks but if you are getting a normal plastic protector, the screen is not as smooth as the original glass one . also the oleophobic coating wears off easily when people do not use any screen protectors

I have the Spigen screen protector, and it's perfect. Feels as hard as the screen, no soft rubbery feel. Also crystal clear. Yes it's hard to get a good fit, but I'd rather scratch a screen protector than the screen, especially when it comes to sell the phone on.

Flip cover for me. No any risk in the pocket or elsewhere out of use. For so many years I never had any scratch from normal use, had once an accident where the screen was destroyed from dropping with no chance a screen protector would have changed anything. I like the feeling to use the screen as it has been designed by the manufacturer without artifact.

Flip covers can cause scratches worse than without if something gets in between the screen and the cover and then it rubs in the same place.

Right! Especially if by chance a sandpaper slips between the cover and the screen.... hopefully that never happened to me.

I don't like using screen protectors either, I think it takes away from the quality of the phone.
I get why people have them, I understand that it doesn't necessarily have to be metal that scratches your screen but just dirt/sand from inside your pockets. All of that makes sense. Even the case for resale value.
However, I just don't like the feel of having a screen protector on my phone. I spent $700+ on my phone, I want the screen to be strong! Lol
How many generations of gorilla glass must we go through before this is the case!?!?!?
Anyway, the best screen protector I have ever used was on my iPhone 6 Plus, I think it was a Spigen glas.tr
It was amazing and covered the WHOLE phone, even the bezels.
If Spigen (or someone else) came out with one for the Note 5, I would consider giving it a try.
I tried the one Spigen currently has "Galaxy Note 5 Screen Protector Crystal" - Optical base PET film material
It just didn't feel as good as the regular screen, so I took it off.

I am on my 4th phone without a screen protector. I guess it just depends how much dirt you get in your pockets. I get none so my phones survive. If i worked an outdoor job or in a dirty warehouse i would put a protector on.

Best screen protector

I'm going back into consruction so I need a new screen protector. What's the best one that doesn't hamper touch sensitivity and screen brilliance?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk
The gorrilla glass it came with. I used to do the screen + body skins but as long as you keep one pocket just for the phone, it'd be pretty hard to scratch it. Been discussed multiple times...

Realook, available on Amazon. Takes scratches like a champ, is invisible, easy to clean and allows all touches to be equally sensitive as before install.

I ordered 2.. They are free with you just paying shipping and rival Zagg, and I think they are better. Try it out. You cannot lose with 2 for $5\
EDIT: Plus they are full body protectors.
have had the Zagg InvisibleShield from day one...
no warped colors and still keeps the same brightness as without....
+1 on the realook.
Its hard plastic not soft like the Zagg and most other screen protectors.

There's actually a thread about this already in the Accessories sub-forum.
But anyway, Ghost Armor is what I use, and compared to the Invisible Shield that's on my brother's Epic, mine is more slick (less plastic-like and less gooey) and overall a great looking screen protector. Plus the fingerprints are way easy to wipe off, which is what annoyed me with the plain Gorilla Glass, which by itself is already very scratch-resistant but prone to fingerprints.
i know theres already a thread... but
I like the realook 11 bucks for 2 of them... run a hot shower in bathroon, then go in there and clean screen then apply. Bearlt know its there and has a natural feel/look , ive had the same one on for over 6 months now and its still hanging in there.... getting a bit scratched now but not bad enough for me to pull it. I tried a zagg one and hated it. Gorilla glass does hold up great but sand will still scratch it... i have a micro scratch from a grain of sand that was in my pocket from river fishing in the summer...... that was my turning point to go and get a protector.
just my 2cents

Another one for realook...i usually hatescreen protectors but this one passes for me and doesn't detract from the feel if the screen much.

[Q] Screen easily scratched

I am on my second Arc and both screens are exhibiting scratches despite being kept in a pouch and not coming into contact with any hard surfaces. Anyone else notice these so called 'scratch resistant' screens are far from?
Are you sure it's the screen it self and not the screen protector that's on it?
Most people get the arc with screen protector already on it. look close maybe you will see it.
took the screen protectors off as they diminish the quality of the screen both look and touch wise. didnt think it would be an issue considering the marketing spiel about the mineral glass!!
from my experience with "scratch resistant" screens, unless its gorilla glass, get a screen shield.
Depends what you mean by removing the "screen protector".. the actual factory fitted, almost invisible screen protector??
you mean there is another removable film under the sticky with the peel tab??!? hmmm

I'll assume, for now, that was a genuine response and not a sarcastic one!! ;-)
Yes.. if you look at the very edge of the screen you can see where the factory fitted screen protector is.. it really is the best screen protector you'll get...
Ah ha! thats hilarious - I never would have guessed that! apologies for being so retarded - I never bought a phone which came fitted with a protector under another protector! its so flush I dont think i would have ever noticed! i just wonder how everyone else but me saw it. very helpful - thanks alot.
i'll just go and find a sword to fall on...
lol
I was also surprised, really great from SE.

My 10 year old Omega Seamaster has mineral glass and showing no scatch what so ever. My iPhone4 with gorilla glass is one big scratch.
I have the Arc now and am very happy with it.
Hello,
Does anyone here with an Arc have removed the factory installed screen protector and have gone without applying another screen protector? How is your screen doing?
I'm changing screen protectors every two months and I hate to do it, but I want to know if the scratch resistant screen is indeed scratch resistant. I'd love to go without a screen protector, but I'm afraid to do so, unless someone without using one can tell me his/her story.
Thank you.
I know it's not the Arc, but check out this SE Xperia Active "screen torture"
Mine (arc s) had no protector for about a month and got 0 scratches...
Now Im using an oleophobic protector(Steinheil Ultra Series [Ultra Optics]) and I think is unnecessary because the screen already have a better oleophobic coating, also reduces the screen brightness
BTW my brother xperia x10 still without protector for over a year and have no scratches
Sorry for my english
My wife took off her protection and now we are having another baby! Jk she saw scratches right away I would recommend using a scratch protector, because even the so called gorilla glass can scratch with just regular use

Yup, that's it. It's *really* difficult to get off.
Removed mine about 6 months ago after it got scratched. Never bothered to install the spare that came in the box. Been keeping the phone in my pocket (with wallet, but no keys or coins in that pocket ever) and there are still no scratches whatsoever on the screen.
There are plenty of chips & scratches all over the rest of the phone though.

Really? What on earth is she doing to the thing? I've dropped mine so many time's it's not even funny, it has chips and scratches all over it (including one scratch i'm particularly proud of right across the camera lens) and yet the screen is still pristine.
Are you absolutely sure you dont still have the factory fitted screen protector on it? Unless of course she's keeping it in a handbag filled with rusty nails and sandpaper, which is what my ex-gf seemingly used to do to anything she borrowed of mine...
Just like to point out something important, the protector that is factory applied and is hard to get off is a SHATTER PROOF SHEET! As the screen has been designed to be airtight (the gap between the screen at the touch layer) I have heard of people who have removed this protector and after dropping their arc, the whole screen shattered
This is why despite having a **** load of scratches, I'm too afraid to remove this cover, so I wouldn't really recommend it...

Does the stylus scratch the screen?

Does the stylus scratch the screen?
Do you guys think that a screen protector is necessary or advisable?
And if it is advisable, will it affect the stylus and finger performance?
interesting question, as the current word on the street is the Note doesn't have Gorilla Glass...
i doubt it would though- but that's only my assumptions..
as its Anti-scratch resistant screen .i don't think the s-pen will scratch the screen but it more like in long term it possible when you put in your pocket with coins or keys , that would scratch the screen it i think.
my old phone was anti scratch screen too but still got few scratch on it from the house keys and coin in my pocket
ps btw i am using the note without screen protector.
I've always gone naked on my phones; no screen protector and no case. I can't stand the extra bulk/film. Even back in the days of windows mobile 5 and 6 with HTC phones that had PLASTIC screens that actually deformed under the stylus pressure, I didn't have scratching issues. I've always kept my phone in my left pocket (upside down with screen facing leg for quick and easy retrieval in the proper position) with NOTHING else in the pocket.
I've never understood the screen protector thing. For the most part manufacturers make the screens much harder and more abrasion resistant than any plastic film you'll find in a screen protector. I saw a guy yesterday using some Verizon droid with a screen protector that was scratched and foggy, and all I could think is "WTF, he wants to protect his screen so it doesn't get scratched up, decreasing visibility and looking ugly, yet that's exactly the experience he's receiving!" Lame. Sometimes people need to think about the big picture. If you're going to sell your phone in a couple months and are paranoid, that's one thing, but otherwise I think they're a total waste.
I still have the factory protective plastic sheet over my screen and my stylus works fine. I'm waiting for my screen protector to come in the mail before I remove the factory plastic.
I have always used cases and screen protectors on my phones. When it came time to sell my old phones, they are still in immaculate condition, like the first day I bought them. I am always able to get the maximum resale value out of my phones.
I think screen protectors is a good investment if you want to maximize the resale value of your phone
I have a screen protector on my note and it doesn't effect the performance of the stylus. It also doesn't leave any scratches on the screen protector so I am guessing it shouldn't leave any on the screen as well.
Overall performance , it's great and loving every minute of my new toy.

If you put it on right, you can't even tell it's there. You wouldn't be able to tell that I had a screen protector on my captivate unless you looked at the edges, no fog, no bubbles, no dust.
The thing about screen protectors is... if you DO get a big scratch, you are scratching an inexpensive easily replaceable component as opposed to the expensive and very difficult to replace pane of glass fused to the LCD and housing.
Even though Screen Protectors can prevent the screen being scratched, it does also make the screen look less vibrant.
all my previous phones i had screen protector on but i decide that i go without on the note this time ^_^
ps. i just put 32gb card in and loaded ton of movies on it. oop sorry out of topic, lol
I was going to ask whether the seemingly strong screen would hurt the thin plastic S-Pen.
I never used a screen protector on previous phones, but I just ordered one for the Note. After only a couple of days use, I have several noticeable scratches on the screen - I would say that it scratches easily (these scratches are not from the stylus, haven't even used that yet).
I would think that the pen would suffer in sensitivity with a screen protector.

Paper's never a good thing to use for wiping clear stuff (phone screens, glasses, etc.) Wood pulp, which they use to make the paper, contains tiny bits of silica which will scratch those types of items. The scratches may be very small, but will build up over time. Fabric is always a better choice; the inside of my t-shirt is what I use most of the times on my sunglasses and phone screen.

I manufacture cases for phones.
But before then and now I don't use cases, and beat the living daylights out of my phones.
This makes me financially stupid, and you smart (no sarcasm, truly).
However, I'm perhaps living a more chilled life.

Is it necessary to have a screen protector? Pros & cons?

Is it really beneficial? What are the pros and cons? Does it affect how clear the screen is? Does it affect touch sensitivity?

I use an anti glare type for several reasons, 1) Keep it from being scratched, 2) To reduce sun glare, yes it does reduce the screen brightness the trade-off its worth it imho. 3) Finger prints smudges are annoying as hell and I cant keep cleaning the screen. 4) Finger glide yes fingers tends to stick to the glass but with an anti-glare protector they just glide. My 2 cents
Thanks, Blackwidowman!
Fingerprints are such a pain, with the screen protector; fingerprints don't stick?
I always use a screen protector my smartphones and tablets. I just get a clear one, and I don't notice it once it's on. To me, they are too much money to risk scratches.
Personal preference really, for some the added protection is well a worth the change in look and feel. For others like myself there's just no way we'll sacrifice the clarity of the display for any amount of protection.
Since my First android phone (HTC Desire) i dont use one and have No scratches.
Sent from my GT-P7500 using xda premium
Never used one on any phone or tablet. I just look after my devices. I mean what would you be doing to scratch it? Using a shard of metal instead of a finger. Phones I can understand, putting it in the same pocket as keys or coins or somthing. I just never put anything in my pocket with my phone. But a tablet, not exactly pocket size. If I take it out with me, it is in a bag (on it's own) or in my hand. I have had it a few months and not a single mark on it. As for fingerprints, much easier to wipe of glass than plastic. Some decent screen wipes make easy work of them. Or a few breaths on the screen and a glasses cloth.
Basically, take care of your tablet and you won't need any kind of protection
I dont think I'll ever need it for my tablet. No scratches without a case or protector. About fingerprints, I never see those.

Well this may not be a issue on the screen protector on the tab. The one i had for my charge did nothing but hold in all the oils from my hands causing the screen to have a constant foggy film over it. Just something to keep in mind.

LOL! Me too. I a stressed out just thinking about mine arriving. Ugh, I may ask a friend who is good at this to do it for me.
I've had my Galaxy Vibrant for a year and half and my Galaxy 10.1 tab since July and I've never used a protective screen. They both get heavy use and I carry them with me all over the place and nary a scratch. There is a reason why they use gorilla glass.
I personally hate screen protectors. I haven't used one in I believe 6 years.
Given that it's kept in the Samsung Book Case, the only time I anticipate my Tab will ever come near anything that'll scratch it, is if it hits the floor, at which point it'll basically be a written off screen - and fingerprints? Well I have glasses anyway, so a spray or 2 of glass cleaner and a microfibre cloth once a week or so and everythings perfect.
I've also generally got quite dry hands, so with a screen protector on I can't 'swipe' across the screen because the plastic gives much more resistance than the glass of the screen.
Similar thing with my smartphone, nothing shares a pocket with it and so far I haven't had a single scratched screen...in fact the most damage I've done to any phone in the last 3 or so years is that I've lost the H and C from the back....
Some sort of screen protection is a must for me. I just find ways to scratch and break stuff.
I suck at applying the cling type protectors so with my DX and Rezound I have Otterbox Defenders and with the GTabs (I've had two...sold one and missed it) I have Gumdrop cases. Both these companies have a clear membrane for the screen which works well for me.
Although I object to screen protectors because they mess up the beauty of the display, I decided to get one due to the fact that I hate the finger prints i leave on the screen. I went to the mall and installed ghost armor on it and so far I like it, a lot, surprisingly. The display is still as beautiful, no finger prints and it actually feels nice.
it is supper hard to put one one it takes allot of time and paitnce i used my tab for a few months and i was fine without a saver i jest got one for fun but it is like heck to put on and i have a few bubbles in it lol
I love the skin-like feel of Zagg protectors. I now put them on all of my devices. No fingerprints, tactile feedback, and accident protection.
I put their leather skin on the back of my galaxy tab and the orange peel protector on the front. Feels elegant and solid.

Yes we do.
Today I was very dishearted to notice a few micro scratches on my screen.
So now I have to buy a screen protector as I prefer using the phone naked. I was hoping to not buy one because the phone is so beautiful and glass protectors are so expensive, but compared to the amount I will have to pay to get an insurance claim on the phone, it's cheap. I am so disappointed in myself. I love my phone very much and thought I was taking very good care of it, but I guess I wasn't as careful as I should be. I bought into the hype of GG4 and not it's going to cost me.
Owed my Note 4 since its release with no screen protector and far not one scratch.
But in fairness I'm usually good about not getting scratches on my phone. Im always aware when I put it in my pocket making sure I have no keys for items that will cause scratches.
No scratches here. I'm rocking the tech 21 impactology case (most of the time), no screen protector.
I've had this note 4 since the 3rd day they were out.
I will always use a screen protector...for the sole fact that its a biatch to keep it clean lol
I was able to buff out the micro scratches. Still looking for a good screen protector though.

Glad you got the micro scratches buffed out. We sell a lot of these:

Keep a screen protector on. It helps with the resell value.
Can't allow even the slightest scratch to impede my vision while watching movies on the moon... so yes, I use protection.

How did you buff them out?
Guys just use the glass protector
They were really hard to see so I just kept rubbing the area with a micro fiber cloth for about 30 minutes. They are still there but you have to put the phone real close to your face with light coming from the side.
I found a $25 tempered glass screen protector today after work at a mobile phone store. There is a halo effect, but I feel much better now. I'm still looking at this one though.

Is the camera glass Gorilla Glass? Cause I got a pretty big gouge on it. Luckily it is off center.
Yeah, about the micro scratches...are they just a scratch on the coating of the glass? Wait, does the glass have a coating?

The micro scratches most likely come from pieces of sand in pockets. They can do a number on a display.

Doesn't toothpaste cover small scratches? Might wanna try that.
There is always this debate with every new phone. I got a few micro scratches in the first month of owner ship. Just like every other device. Better safe than sorry because unless your screen is made of diamond resistant is not the same as scratch proof.
Lol screen protector is not expensive . Got me a pair of 6 really good ones I love them came even tell they are there. DO NOT BUT ANTI GLARE. It ruins the beautiful display. Got mine for $13 from Amazon.

Used tempered glass through out my note 3. Bought one for my note 4 till it got nasty. Got some regular ones that supposedly they are made for AMOLED display and RETINA.

Im impressed by it . . . I I dropped my phone on the train platform after stepping out the train with sview case. Screen was still flawless.
Needless to say I did but an otterbox as my commuter and save the s view when I wann abe sexy.
Overall the note 4 drop test versus nexus 6 really shows the strength of CGG4.
The tmobile screen protector is pretty decent, they are $18 but they will usually discount to $10. Most important it does not impede vr gear. After a week of use the protector smooths out and is completely unnoticeable to touch. For gear s I use the Iq screen protector and it's flawless
I got my Note 4 home, examined and admired it's beauty, and then put it in an otterbox defender!!! Better safe than sorry!
