I had a friend today ask why when adding a photo to a text it auto sends without giving the option to add text like normal.
I had noticed that on my Edge+ but did not pay much attention. Now with the inquiry I have spent some time investigating.
1. Went to send them a photo using gallery as default selected photo and "Done" displayed in the top right corner.
2. Performed a master reset and attempted the same. Tapped add image and had Photos and Gallery as the option selected Gallery. Now once the photo was selected it displayed "Send" in the top right corner. Updated all apps restarted the phone and performed the test again. This time "Done" was the option.
At this point I assumed it was taken care of so I told them to update their apps. No change on their end.
3. Cleared the default apps and did another test this time it asked if I wanted to use Gallery, Photos, or One Drive. Selected gallery and the option "Done" displayed again.
4. I then uninstalled updates for One Drive and disabled the app. Went to send the message and sure enough "Send" was my only option.
5. Enabled One Drive and installed the updates then cleared the default apps again. One Drive did not show and "Send" was still the option. Restarted the device cleared the defaults One Drive showed again and "Done" displayed.
This is all using the factory messaging app. I wanted to get this out there and possibly get some feedback if you are also having this issue and if this takes care of it on your device.

The problem appears to be with the actual message "screen" handler, when going to messages, at the top it says all messages, with the search icon, and below that is has the compose message button, but no messages actually display below there, it does nothing.
Clicking compose message takes you to the normal text screen and allows you to choose a contact to message, you can enter the text and it will send telling you "loading" and stops(hangs) there, the message does actually send.
The only workaround I've found for it is to go to contacts, select a person, and then hit the messages button...this will display the list of messages with that person but nothing else. Clicking the menu and hitting compose(or the "tap to reply") button get's you a prompt to select the program to handle it, messages or fb messenger, clicking messages gets more spinning of the "loading" prompt and the phone hangs at that point...I've searched this forum for about an hour now and have not seen this described.
.I'll be reading the guide for my model in hopes of a reply coming before the teenager with the axe..lol. Thanks for taking the time to read my post!

You can try clearing the data on messaging, but you will lose your messages. If there is a hangup (I know, I know) somewhere in the app it might fix it.
Otherwise, for phantom errors with no apparent fix, a factory reset will usually fix you up.
To clear data, go to Settings>Apps>Messages and click "Clear Data."
I have a stock AT&T S4 (rooted with some built in apps removed) and I am having trouble opening images attached to MMS messages. They show fine in the messaging app as a preview and I can long click to choose "view slideshow" but when I single tap on the image to open it full screen the image can't be loaded.
I cleared my app defaults so that when the image was clicked it would ask which viewer to use. I tried QuickPic and it just flashes and goes back to the messaging app. I tried ES explorer's built in image viewer and it goes to a blank screen with the error "could not load image"
It doesn't matter if I click a received message or if i click one of my previous sent messages.
Any ideas?
It seems that messaging depends on gallery (to view mms full screen), and gallery may depend on google+ so unless you replace you your messaging app do not remove gallery or Google+
Luckily I had a nandroid backup of the system without changes. I restored it and tried removing the gallery application and my MMS viewing broke again. It sucks that I can't use Quickpic to view the pictures.
Ever since the 4.3 update, trying to text a picture with the stock messaging app gives me an error to "Select a Different Media" and will not attach the picture. This happens only with downloaded images. Camera pictures and screen shots are fine. This never happened before as I to long press and download a picture from the browser and text it all the time. Downloading and sending gifs like this work too, for some reason. It's only regular images that won't attach.
Hey everyone. I have an annoying issue that has reoccurred multiple times now. I've used a workaround of just manually adding my picture to it before.
In my Galaxy S5, the "My Info" local profile shows the standard avatar, and only my phone number. I previously manually added my own picture, just so I would see my own picture in the messaging app.
Is there a way to link the local contact with my Google+/Facebook/Gmail picture? I have a contact entry for my own info under "Me" that I manually entered in Gmail years ago.
Just to clarify, this is the contact entry that appears to be locally saved on the phone, undeletable, and the contact picture of that entry shows as your picture in the messaging app.
There are so many glitches to my phone after this recent update I cannot even begin to list them, but the current one bugging me is when I save a pic I get in an email, for instance. the "download manager" downloads it, and it shows up in my notification bar as being complete, but it is not in my gallery, like it used to be. It is nowhere. If I click on the pic in my notification bar it will open it, but there aren't any options. Pressing and holding, double-tapping, etc do nothing (except magnifying the pic).
My email program (Yahoo) doesn't have an option to choose where my phone downloads the pic. This was not a problem prior to this update, and pics I would save off the internet or from my email would go to a "downloads" folder in the gallery.
When I search on the phone for "download manager" to find a folder or something where all these pics reside, the phone tells me no such thing exists, lol
I appreciate any help!
