Hey guys. Got a nexus player a few weeks ago and was able to sideload TorGuard on there. I can enter in my credentials and it authenticates, but when it goes to establish a connection it fails. Does anyone know how to get it to establish? On most recent stock OTA and not rooted. Also the bootloader is still locked.

I just got my NP today and am having the same problem getting TorGuard to run. I got it sideloaded OK and it seems to authenticate fine, but never establishes a connection. Were you able to figure this out? Any assistance would be enormously appreciated.
Thanks!
Vpn
I read a web site that suggested loading openvpn installer and openvpn settings for the fire tv do you think it would work on the nexus player? ??
SOLVED!
You simply need to have TorGuard change your 'username' to something other than an email address --- the email address format (e.g. '@' '.com') screws things up on the Nexus Player. However, if you simply have a traditional 'text' username, everything authenticates fine. Simply contact TorGuard support and they can make this change for you in a couple of minutes.

Is it possible to use other vpns than torguard? ??
If it runs on 5.1.1 or 6 it should work for Us

Since we're running either v5.1.1 or Android v6, any VPN client certified for either Android system should run on our Nexus Players.
I have a torGuard account and only have experience with that, so far.
Torguard vpn
Ok so I can connect with the vpn but when I exit the app and try a to watch a tv app from the same country as vpn connection it doesn't work. When I go back to the vpn app it says that it is initializing and a new ip address appears. Any ideas? ??
I have this same issue ... the TV app I am trying to load is Netflix and it says it cannot find the netflix servers or connection... Can't seem to find a fix but the TorGuard support are pretty good and helping me at the moment will let you know if a fix is found ... Unless you have a fix already?
I just order a Nexus player hopefully private Internet access works

Hi, All
I have a VPN problem that is strange. Here goes:
I have my Nexus One two days ago. It's not rooted and no APK installed on it.
At that time, the VPN worked very well.
Then, I unlocked and rooted it. Then I flashed a Pandora Firmaware. The firmware is here.
://d.epis.me/Pandora%20N%201.1%20for%20nexus.zip
After that, the VPN didn't work. I must wait for a long time after I started to connect, and an error message came out like this: "Can not connect to the server". If I use a wrong password, the VPN will tell me the pssword is wrong. The same VPN server can be connected by same username and password on my laptop, but not Nexus One. It is very strange.
Then I restored the original shipping firmware. It didn't work too. The reply of the VPN is the same as above.
The server is uk.focusvpn.com, and VPN type is PTPP. Encryption type I selected encryped and not encrypted, it didn't work on both.
Now the VPN on my Nexus One is totally broken. Can any good guy help me?
Mods are likely going to move this to a different forum.
If any of the devs want to look at this I'm seeing this also. The VPN Connections app for me to a Cisco Concentrator works fine.
I can't for the life of me get PPTP to work; this may just be a buggy PPTP client in the Nexus One 2.1 build. It works FLAWLESSLY on my G1 with the last CM build. I get a generic message that GRE is not functional; but this is BS - on the same link I can tether my Mac and it works or use the same WiFi On a Windows system or mac and it works. I'm suspecting Google regressed or introduced a bug on 2.1 with PPTP
Cyanogen; or any of the other dev's if you want to "borrow" my PPTP VPN account to debug I'm game to email you the info; PM me. I was going to try this on the emulator and but some debug messages in to see what the specific issue may be...
Yeah. PM me and ill try to fix it for the CM N1 release tomorrow!
is the CyanogenMod also for nexus one?
VPN on nexus (android 2.1)
I noticed on this webpage
code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=4111
that android 2.1 only support old fashion Authentication Protocols
+ CHAP allowed
+ MSCHAPv1 allowed
But
- PAP disabled
- MSCHAPv2 disabled
- EAP Proxy disabled
i searched around and found no program can hack this to enable the later 3
is it easy to enable the above? anyone here can help to configure it or it actually needs a new development?
I want to set up a VPN at home that my xoom can access. I tried a simple PPTP with dd-wrt but I can't seem to access or ping anything, even though it connects. I want to do this so I don't have to forward SSH, RDP, and other ports that expose my stuff to the outside world.
At home I am running a DD-WRT gateway with a linux server as well as a Windows Server 2008 VM behind the gateway, any could host the VPN service.
I don't need instructions on how to set up the VPN, but advice on what is compatible with android's built in VPN support.
Thanks in advance for any input.

The windows vpn service works fine for me
I was under the impression I needed to set up a domain to use the included windows VPN service, and I wasn't looking to set up a domain.
Is this an incorrect assumption?

Here's a link to getting OpenVPN working. Must admit it looks like it's not for everyone.

That was not necessary for me. If it is a requirement, it is specific to Windows Server edition
I have a Windows PPTP VPN that my Xoom can connect to. You do not need to set up a domain.
Unfortunately there is a bug in Android that makes it lose connection to the VPN after a few minutes/seconds.
See here:

I just bypass androids native VPN and use Neo Router free. Available in the market. You just set up a Neo server on the computer you want to control and use the android app to open an encrypted connection to that computer. You can set up the app to forward any ports to the computer running the server. Works well. Right now im running splashtop remote and plex using it so i dont have to port forward the ports for those apps in my router.
Thanks for all the input. I am working on OpenVPN. I almost have it working (I already have my router set up for OpenVPN, just didn't know I could use it).
I'm having with trouble getting VPN to work on my Nook Color, running cm7.1 encore stable. It seems every time I enter my password to connect, the status changes to 'Connecting...' and freezes the nook. Has anyone gotten VPN to work on CM7.1? I'm outside the US so I would like to run VPN to connect to Hulu and Crackler...
Any help on this would be appreciated
BUMP
I'm having the same issue with CM 7.1.0.1 (stable). Like the original poster stated in his post every time I connect to a VPN my Nook Color freezes and I have to do a hard reboot.
I use VPN a lot on my Android devices so it would be great if someone could tell me how I can get it to work on the Nook Color.
If you can use OpenVPN, that works very well for me via the OpenVPN Settings app.

My provider charges extra for OpenVPN so I'm stuck for now trying to get PPTP VPN to work on my NC.
I straight up have the answer for you. DroidVPN is in beta right now, search them on the forums. They will provide you with VPN for free. They require that you email them for a registration code and that's it.
Highly recommended. Quick connection and nice servers. Download and browsing speed mostly equivalent to what I was getting before.
Give them a try. You will need a tun.ko in your system/lib/module folder, but it is built into the kernel. I just bring that up so it doesn't seem to be a stumbling block to anyone looking into the app.

I already have a prepaid subscription to a VPN provider (StrongVPN) which allows me to have an IP address from anywhere in the world. I watch shows on the BBC iPlayer which only streams to UK IPs. I also used this before to watch Netflix while in Europe with a US IP.
This DroidVPN sounds fine for folks that aren't needing international IPs although I don't know how many servers they have and what type of speeds one can expect using them.
I am a PIA (Private Internet Access) subscriber and I'm trying to configure OpenVPN for Android on my Nexus Player. I had no problems configuring it on my Nexus 5 but when I open the app on the player and go through creating a profile, when I try to click the button to "select" a certificate OR if I try to import an OpenVPN configuration I get a brief message from android that it doesn't have an app to do that.
My guess is that something is lacking on my device - particularly the "open from" dialog that appears when you're trying to add/select a file from your sdcard or cloud drive.
Has anyone else seen this and have a solution? I'm so close to getting this nailed down and I don't want to use the PIA app since I can't access my local network resources when it's connected.

**no root required, im on 5.1.1**
I got it working but it doesnt rotate but it works and all you need to do is input your info and hit connect.
Here is a VPN client that PIA made for there servers:
HTML:
http://download.apks.org/?server=11&apkid=com.privateinternetaccess.android&ver=1.1.7
install that like this:
adb install /path/to/com.privateinternetaccess.android&ver=1.1.7
Open up SideLoad Launcher and Launch VPN, fill out your info and tick save and hit connect. I confirmed working with Chrome at whatsmyip
Cheers,
DFL
Unfortunately it's not working on mine. When I click on "connect" I get a system dialog asking me if I want to enable VPN access - whatever you push after it doesent connet to the VPN.
Has anyone gotten this working 'better'? I've talked with PIA support and asked them why their app is considered "incompatible" and to please change that status in Google Play if there is indeed no issue. DroidVPN, VyperVPN, etc are in there so it's obviously possible I assume

I'm wondering if I side load the android app will it work. Did you get it to work?

Anyone know if there is a vpn that works on nexus player yet? One that doesn't keep logs.
Yup. IPVanish doesn't keep logs and their Android app works on the Nexus Player.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=61837868&postcount=321
I use PIA, I sideloaded the app on my Nexus Player, and it works fine, just don't try to use Netflix when connected to VPN, because it won't work. Apparently it's an issue with android, not Netflix.
The sideloaded "normal" Netflix app works with VPN, but it crashes if you try and click e.g. the subtitle button.
Bump
Any new VPN for the Nexus Player?
Thanks!
i tried Hotspot shield VPN Elite , connect OK , i open netflix , loads a long time, i can see the foreign Catalog , but when i tried to see anything popup a message that i using a Proxy server. D4MN!!
I use unlocator. It costs money and not free, but Is stable and reliable. It's configured on my home network and the NP works great with it (I use netflix, Pandora, bt, espn, bbc iplayer, nba...)
Anyone try sideloading expressvpn on nexus player?
I sideloaded F-Droid and I was able to install regular ol' OpenVPN for Android, which is supported by most if not all providers, including those that don't log.
Since NP is going to be tied to your home network, you really should consider implementing your VPN at the ROUTER level, not on your NP.
Hey guys, I need VPN client for Nexus Player connection to other private server through PPTP (not public service, just private with custom IP, login/pass). And problem that router without VPN connection support, so I need it on the device. Any suggestions?

I use PIA on mine. Sideloaded, sits sideways, guess you could fix that with some rotation app. Anyways I can connect with my remote and set it up to auto connect when I open it, I disconnect with my remote.

If I right understand what does you mean, this is third party service, isn't it? But I need direct connection to my own VPN server with PPTP.
Is there way to access inbuilt vpn settings or 3rd party app to enter own/custom vpn settings?
