Hi,
I bought an unlocked note 3 and it is with Lollipop.
I would like to downgrade this to 4.4.3 which is the Jelly bean
Will the downgrade affect the unlocking status?
thanks

and then,
do you know if I have to load the firmware from same provider?
For example, the phone is originally from Telus and it is unlocked.
When I download it, does it have to the firmware for Telus? or should Rogers' firmware be okay?
Thanks

You can use Rogers firmware, as there is no harm in installing a firmware from another provider.

thanks so much!!!
I'm not sure if Odin will allow flashing stock KK from stock LP. From the s3 thread, I know you cannot load an older bootloader over a newer bootloader.

I have unlocked bootloader and normally root the phone via recovery. If I upgrade to 2.3.4 and then root with same method can anything happen? Im really worried about getting same issue.
Or is this only for locked bootloaders?

Just flash both of THESE then.
I have just been having a read about the 4.4 for N3 and people are talking about the new bootloader and not forcing it and some people being hard bricked.
My question is this, is going from a custom 4.3 to a custom 4.4 is there anything I need to do to make sure it installs correctly or doesn't hard brick?
Or is the only problem going from 4.4 back to 4.3?
At the moment on X-Note and just looking at a couple of the other Touchwiz 4.4 custom roms, if I install one of them can I not go back?
And is this the same for the CM 4.4 Nightlies?
Thanks

Bootloader will auto install if you choose XEO package.
You cannot go back once you upgrade, so no CM no XNOTE etc (for now at least) - You can go on SweetROM or AndroidNOW and a couple of others though.

But I can go from any 4.4 ROM to any other 4.4 ROM? So I could go to CM11 from SweetROM or AndroidNOW?

CM is 4.4 but the bootloader is MJ7 based. Which means it will not work on the NA6 Bootloader that comes with 4.4.2 -- You can use SweetROM AndroidNOW, KINGDROID or FlexKAT only. No CM Build will run on the NA6 Bootloader currently and probably not for a long time yet.

Cool, good to know. If I had backed up a ROM not on NA6, could I restore back to that? That restores the old bootloader, yeah?
Nope, Samsung block all downgrades. And this applies to NA6, which means once you upgrade to NA6 you are stuck with it until further notice with no return. Chances are a return will never be possible the same as going back before MJ7 which is still impossible.

Just, hopefully, one last thing:

IF you attempt it you will bootloop, so basically a soft brick yes. And you'll need to reflash NA6 to get out of the bootloop

Dial *#1234# on your phone. You'll you'll see three codes, AP, CP and CSC.
In CSC, check what code you see.
compare it to these region codes : http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/Csc

@alpward , did you try to update your firmware using Kies3? Since you have a Poland CSC, you should get the Official 4.4.2 update via Kies. Give it a try.

I don't really want to go to a non-custom ROM. My other question is, if I backup a pre 4.4 pre-new bootloader ROM, can I restore back to it after going to the new bootloader or does it lock it forever?

How can you tell what bootloader the ROM has before installing? As in, CM11 doesn't have the new bootloader, right?
ROM Post should tell you what BL it's running, and yes, CM runs on the old BL either MJ7 or MK* depending on build.
My phone downloads the update but the install fails, im also trying to obtain root. I have gotten rid of some bloatware, could that be the problem if so what needs to be on the phone for the update to take?

If you don't unlock your bootloader on 182/183.46.10, future system updates will close any loopholes to gaining root and unlocking your bootloader. - You have been warned!
Once your bootloader is unlocked, it can not be re-locked - Say goodbye to any warranties you may have.
Once your bootloader is unlocked, you can accept any and all firmware updates.
In order to receive and install System Updates you will need to be using 100% stock untouched firmware. (Stock system & recovery)
You can not downgrade with a locked bootloader. You can only flash current or updated firmware.

Well... you have 3 options.
1. You can flash your current firmware and then OTA to the KitKat firmware.
2. Flash the KitKat firmware with RSD Lite.
3. Stay where you are and skip the update.
Is your bootloader unlocked?
If it's not I suggest that you flash the .10 firmware and unlock your bootloader. (It has to be the .10 firmware only to root and unlock the bootloader)
I just switched back to my GS5 because I broke my iPhone 6. I am currently running 5.0 Baseband G900VVRU2BOE1. I've been trying to Odin back to KItKat. I get a fail in Odin every time. Is there something going on with the bootloader that prevents downgrading?

It sounds to me like the aboot qfuse counter changed which would mean that there's no going back to any previous FW. It was only a matter of time before they did it since the VZW S4 lollipop update did that.
We won't know until we get ahold of either the update.zip or the odin tar. I have 2 VZW S5's and both refuse to tell me there's an update available even when I Odin back to a stock FW.
Nice. That's what I hated about Apple. You own the phone, yet, still can't do what you want with it. Well, thanks for checking it out.

It's most likely more of a Verizon thing than a Samsung thing. Although with the 5.1.1 S5 update on T-Mobile, the kernel prevents rooting and T-Mobile phones are on unlocked bootloaders which means they don't care if you root or install a custom rom so maybe it is becoming more of a Samsung thing now.

As of now there is no way to downgrade. Someone already looked at the update zip. I guess it night be possible once the full OE1 tar is out..something about downgrading everything except the bootloader

the thing is, with Verizon, you can choose to not accept the upgrade a few times, but ultimately, it is forced on you...which is why I rooted my S5 the same week I bought it (to avoid unwanted 'upgrades')

Why would you need to downgrade from pb1?
My wife has the launch Verizon Samsung Galaxy S5 and I rooted it immediately after we got it and have not updated it since release. She is ready to upgrade and I'm trying to determine the best route to accomplish the upgrade to the latest version. Any recommendations would be appreciated. I've used ODIN in the past, but can I just use ODIN and load the latest 6.0.1 firmware?
Yes, backup your data and use odin to upgrade..
And a factory reset is highly recommended after upgrade
Verizon (and AT&T) run their devices with locked bootloaders. With the release of Lollipop came enhanced bootloader security which makes rooting very difficult, if not damn near impossible. So yes, you *can* easily upgrade, but subsequent rooting may well be an issue.

I would recommend you to install smart switch on your pc and update your phone with it. It is much simpler than using odin. You just plug in your phone and smart switch does the rest
