OP2 Stock recovery - clear cache partition only - OnePlus 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Can't seem to find a way in the stock 2.02 recovery to clear the cache without clearing the data partition. There doesn't seem to be a separate option as there was on the opo cm12?

[Q] unable to install custom roms / custom screen resolution

I recently had my DX replaced with a new one, and this one seems different, both hardware-wise and software-wise. It is rooted, has CWM and I can back up / restore from cwm fine.
However, when I try to set a smaller screen size (so more shows up on screen), I then cannot use the phone app. It simply exits. Also, I am not able to install any custom roms - just bootloops.
Any help is appreciated.
I recall issues with the blur phone when changing the lcd density.
You can solve this by either not changing the density, or replacing the blur phone with something else.
I'm not sure if you can just pull an aosp phone app from another rom, or if you have to use another rom without the blur phone
Hate to ask what is sometimes the obvious, but when you flash a custom rom, did you format Data and Cache?

Its always good to format Dalvik Cache. I always format System/Data and Dalvik Cache before installing any ROM's.

Am I wrong is saying that if you formated /data, then you already wiped Dalvik cache since it's located in /data/dalvik-cache?
I don't want to start an argument. I'm just wondering about the benefits of wiping the Dalvik Cache after you already wiped/formated /data.
When switching ROMs, I've always just wiped /system, /data, /cache and never had any problems arise.

[Q] How do I FULLY wipe my device?

Might be a stupid question, but anyone know how to do this? I want to only keep PSX And neo with no other data on it (Such as games that require downloaded data, apps and etc). Wiping data on CWM doesn't wipe everything (Yes I did cache and dalvik as well), would wiping the sdcard wipe everything and leave the ROM? Hopefully someone can help, thanks
Also, if the only way of wiping brings me back to stock/unrooted, would I still have CWM installed to install custom ROMs and such still?
These are the wipes you are looking for:
1. wipe data/factory reset
2. wipe cache partition
3. mounts and storage > format sdcard
4. advanced > wipe dalvik cache
That should leave you with a empty/clean internal sd card, no data (apps, settings, etc.), and your current rom and kernel.
if you want to completely wipe everything and go back to stock Android, just use one of the toolkit and flash stock image. it will wipe everything in the phone.
Or just fast boot the images including the userdata file it'll erase the entire phone memory. Toolkits are convenient but you should know how to use fastboot too it saved me when my recovery wouldn't boot and there was no ROM on the phone.

What's the difference between cache and app cache?

So, if I wipe cache in TWRP, the app cache as reported by the system remains. Just tonight I was able to wipe over 2GB of app cache within the system, something I thought I would have rid myself with the wipe cache function within recovery.

That is because you're wiping the device's /cache partition, while app-specific cache is stored on the /data partition. So, It needs manual cleaning from within the app settings.

CWM-Philz Touch Recovery stuck freezes on wipe/format every time [Philz6.0.4.8]

Is there a known bug with philz and wiping partitions? I cant wipe the cache partition or any partition, The screen continues to load but makes no progress. When I turn off and reset the phone, the cache cant be mounted again due to 'last logs' missing. So If I flash back to TWRP, the cache partition is empty 0mb instead of the usual 4mb residual. Re-formatting fixes the issue but it renders CWM-Philz a little useless when you cant even wipe the cache without issues.
Does anyone know a workaround for this?
Move to TWRP as a custom recovery. CWM/Philz has not been updated for a long time.

clearing system cache via twrp

I see dalvik / art cache and system, data
which one do I chose to clear system cache, without bricking my system?
You have only one option - dalvik.
Cache is old days from, it doesn't exist anymore on pies. If you try to wipe you'll get an error in TWRP.
System and data are speaking for themselves. Wipe system - brick phone, wipe data - loss of apps and personal stuff
