Hello guys,
I am searching for help to investigate the "internet" app data usage that used background data while I was on roaming, causing a bill of $15K.
From the data usage I can see that the app that consumed was "internet" over background data, it points to the app "com.sec.android.app.sbrowser".
I have rooted the phone and created a full backup of the phone, and I am now trying to dig into the files to see what kind of site/data was used to pull this 4GB of data on the background.
I was not able to find any relevant file under /data/data/com.sec.android.app.sbrowser
I was also looking into /data/system/netstats
I have a couple of files but I cannot match them to nothing:

Can someone please guide me what files would contain the traffic info? I am desperate to identify the root cause so that I can provide to the provider.
Thank you a lot in advance.
$15k ?
I'd be telling the provider to do one, something is wrong their end, no way a browser would cause that much unless your phone was infected with a premium rate txt or call virus

Exactly, but they don't have any forensic team.
When I do file uid.1442341207969-
I can see uid.1442341207969-: GLS_BINARY_MSB_FIRST but I don't know how to open this files.
Anyone has an idea in how to open these files?

Hello,
Apologies if this is in the wrong forum - please feel free to remove it.
I installed Kaspersky on my device yesterday at approximately 1100 GMT.
Since then there has been a huge amount of data activity originating from the application. Approximately 430 MB worth of background data has been used...
What exactly is this?
At the end of yesterday it was approximately 230MB however, at the end of today it has now nearly doubled to 430MB.
I am trying to scratch my head and wondering what is going on here?
Please find attached screenshots displaying data usage...
Process for installation -
1) I used Android Chrome to navigate to kaspersky.com/downloads/product...ile_for_android
2) Because I downloaded the APK direct from the site I was asked to allow downloads and installations from "Unknown Sources" - I didn't think this was a problem as it is Kaspersky after all....
3) Downloaded and entered my serial and that was it....
Any help or assistance would really be greatly appreciated.
With thanks,
AD

you dont need an anti-virus for android, uninstall it. it was probably downloading/uploading data/libs to check for any malware/adware/viruses. besides, its wifi data usage, does it matter, or is your wifi limited?

But I always hear about malware on Android? Why would you say it isn't required? I'm quite interested to know....

I've never heard of anyone getting malware on their Android device. Not to say it doesn't exist, but I'm pretty sure it's rare. You can easily monitor what apps are using what resources with the various Android menus. If something is suspicious, you can easily uninstall it. Worst-case scenario, you can just reflash your ROM and since you have a Nexus device, it's pretty simple to do. I would uninstall Kaspersky.
I'm monitoring my data usage on my phone because I have al limited data subscription. Now I see Android System Using alot of data (background) when the phone is in standby. I dunno what for, when I press to look at the stats it just says Android System. I don't backup, only sync my contacts, gmail and agenda. Is there someting I'm overlooking that uses data through the android system. Its frustrating because its eating my data away without the knowledge on what or which program is using.
Maybe someone can inform me what to do? Used 90 MB in the last five days only on Android System.
SOLVED: It was a app called Dumpert.nl (dutch app for funny movies) everytime I played a movie it was loading as Android System. I noticed it when Dumpert wasn't showing any big data usage while using 3G.

restrict background data in data usage in setting
I have similar problem, but it is still within my data plan limit, so I just ignore it!
What I hate are these general terms in the data monitor app. Android system! Please google try to break it down to something more detailed for a normal user!
I also have quite a lot of data used by the play store, although I never download or update apps except on WIFI! I'm not sure how I got this data used!

Restricting the background data isn't possible with Android-System. It's bugging the hell out of me. I come from iPhone and if this isn't going to be sorted out soon. I will get a iPhone because this is not normal. I want to be the one who is using data and not the system alone. Google needs te be more specific on this subject. Nobody knows what "Android-System is doing. All the information is blocked.
Each Android Wear smartwatch has a step counter built in, which is cool. It keeps your history, but from what I can tell the data isn't saved anywhere. I used my G Watch for a few days, then applied a factory reset. My history was completely gone and it started over again. Is there a way to save this data? Does anyone know if Runtastic or Runkeeper does? I presume the data will eventually be part of Google Fit, but I would like to save the data now.

I'm also interested in saving this data programmatically. I'm writing an application that will save this data to the server and then combine it with some other analytics. Maybe we can access SQLite to get that data? Does anybody know?
Hey guys,
I just published an application that can export the data into a CSV file, as well as count the amount of time that you are walking for (in addition to just the steps). You can find it here:
play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sm.stepsassistant
Let me know if there are any bugs!
Also, it was *just* published, so if it isn't visible yet, it will be soon.
don't have my watch yet but downloading your app for when I do! thanks!!!
i would imagine apps like myfitnesspal should add support for this very shortly...
I have a very strange issue in my wp8.1 store app. Im running a BackgroundTask every hour. I have set a condition to run only when wifi is available. This works, but if i disconnect wifi, enable mobile data connection, and after some hours re enable wifi, the BackgroundTask diesnt run anymore. What can this be?
Greez
Probably, MS bug.
But there are many other apps, which are using background tasks. The internet connection required condition is there to address this i think?
By the way, what kind of the background download task are you talking about? The "old" way, by using Microsoft.Phone.BackgroundTransfer or a new one, by using Windows.Networking.BackgroundTransfer?
I may recommend you to use a new way; you also may try this sample to be sure that it works as you need...
No, not BackgroundTransfer, i mean BackgroundTask, which i have Time Triggered...
Show us some Sample code for your backgroundtask.
andy123456, sorry I was confused 'cause you've mentioned WiFi/cell data...
And I agree with snickler: if you want to get some help from xda members, please prepare some code snippets or - better - a complete project/solution to prove your words. Nobody will do it for you...
Sorry for the late answer. I figured it out and now i have a new question. The problem seems to be my lumia1520. On my second device, lumia530 which i use for developing only, all works fine without any problem. I have reinstalled my app but now the background task does not fire anymore. It seems to "hang" or so. Is there a limitation of background apps in wp8.1?
Hey guys,
My carrier made some updates to the service today and one of the biggest differences is that some apps won't count towards mobile traffic. I have been using the data limiter/counter built in Android for quite some time now and it's really close to what my carrier accounts so I rely on it to not go over the data cap.
Is there any way to stop apps such as Spotify to count towards the amount of mobile data on the Android counter?
I'm sorry if it's not clear enough but this is the way I am able to explain it better. In case you don't understand what I want, just tell me and I'll try explaining it better.
Thanks!
Don't think you can on the stock data usage settings
I guess I'll get back to 3G Watchdog. Sucks to have yet another app running on the background but I guess that's the only solution.
Thanks!
